BT upto 20mb Upgrade....

Hi
What is the deal with this upgrade?
I received an E-Mail last week saying my exchange had been upgraded and i would now benefit from upto 20mb. The E-mail say it is free and i need to do nothing except wait 10 days for the increase on my line (incidently i am still synced @ 8124k) so nothing as yet!
So is this a FREE upgrade which will happen automatically, Or as i suspect some "incentive" to make me sign a new 18 month contract at a higher price than i am currently paying?
I certainly will not be signing a new contract at a higher price!
Anyone from BT who can confirm if this upgrade is indeed 100% FREE as the E-mail implies?

check your router adsl stats and look if modulation is either 992.3 or 992.5.  If yes then your exchange has been upgraded to 21CN if 992.1 then still adslmax

  • Up to 20mb upgrade cancelled????

I recieved 4 emails of bt recently to say my line would be switched over to the up to 20mb service but when the day came to carry out the work the hub went off for 10 mins as they said but hey presto no upgrade. About 30 mins later i recieved another email saying the work has been delayed? Is there any chance any 1 could find out when my line is actualy being upgraded or switched to the up to 20mb service it would be much appreciated thanks.

    hi,
once your exchange is upgraded dont expect to see the up to 20mb speed right away, you need to take out a new contract with bt to get moved on to the 20mb,my exchange was done on the 18jan and i finnaly got on the 20mb on thursday morning,so far my speed has went up from 6mb to 7.5mb and my upload has more than doubled.i am less than 1100 meters from the exchange so hopefully my speed will start going up.i ran a speed test and i got a 9.8mb result.all i can say is be patient and expect plenty call to the tech.
    cheers del

  • How do I find out when our exchange will be upgrad...

Our exchange is very small (around 35O lines) and we are a long way from it - 4km.  At the very best - early in the morning - we can get 1.5mb download and 0.35mb upload.  By the time everyone else is on it in the evenings it doesn't really work at all - so slow you can't check the speeds.  Have done all we can locally, am a county broadband champion, but seems impossible to find out when the BT exchange will be upgraded.  Suspect we are too rural and will be in the 10% not covered by the Government's weedy promise of 2015.  Such a missed opportunity - as better broadband would be a fantastic boost to rural economies and save fuel. Anyone know how a) you can find out the plans and b) what's the best way to lobby?

    Hi,
Your exchange is probably ADSLMax enabled giving your speeds of up to 8mb. The upgrade your probably talking about is the upgrade to BTw's 21cn network which enables ADSL2+ at your exchange. ADSL2+ is upto 20mb.
You can check if your exchange is going to be upgraded here: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker
However if you have a long line then a good stable line on ADSLMax may not be a good stable line on ADSL2+ as ADSL2+ is more aggressive to any noise on your line.
Once BTW and Openreach have upgraded your exchange it can take days/weeks/months till your line is upgraded to ADSL2+ as they are manual transferred to the new equipment in the exchange in batches.
If your on a ling line then you might be moved to BTw's 21cn network but kept on ADSLMax.
If your able to supply your ADSL Line Statistics and a BT speedtest we might be able to tell you if you will benefit from ADSL2+.

  • Up to 20mb

So I go to the website and run a test and it says up to 20mb is available on my line I typed my number in. Phone bt and ask when I will get this they tell my I can not have it yet as my account is on an old system even though the checker when I typed my number in says I can.
    So what's going on here.

    Daniel
I personally wouldn't go by what you can be told on the website regarding
    'Upto 20mb'
    or
'Upto 8mb' (an old system I presume)

  • Unable to process payload greater than 20MB

We have a SOA system,in which a third party system hits the end point URI exposed by proxy service in OSB. Initially it holds good for 10MB of payload size.
After a while we need to process payloads greater than 10MB. In such situation we did some configuration changes on server side as mentioned below
    servers-->soa_server1-->protocols-->maximum Message Size = 20000000(20MB)
    servers-->osb_server1-->protocols-->maximum Message Size = 20000000. (20MB)
It works well and good for payload size upto 20MB.
Now we are in a situation to process payload size greater than 20MB. For eg. some 25MB we again changed the above parameters values
    servers-->soa_server1-->protocols-->maximum Message Size = 30000000(30MB)
    servers-->osb_server1-->protocols-->maximum Message Size = 30000000. (30MB)
When we hit the end point URI with third party system using payload size greater than 20MB, it throws java.net.SocketTimeoutException:Read Time out
    Kindly suggest
    Regards
    Ganesh S

    You have to:
    1. create 3 GPOs, assign every GPO one of the PCS MSI's
    2. Assign the GPO's to appropriate OU(s) using Group Policy Management snap-in
    3. Clicking on the OU name in Group Policy Management snap-in reveals list of assigned GPOs to the OU where the list shows the sequence of applied GPOs. The higher number, the earlier execution of respective GPO. You can manage the order using arrow icons on the left of the right pane.
Besides, GPOs does not appear in the Add/remove control panel, it is the MSI uninstaller information that is being shown. If everything is installed well, it should appear in the add/remove window. De-installation is possible to commmit using GPO removal from OU (preferred way) OR manual de-installation at local computer (in case where GPO was configured not to remove SW package from computers upon GPO removal from OU)

  • BT has limited my speed even though I have upto 20...

I have an unlimited (upto 20mbs) broadband package. I was tired of the slow speeds and was really close to switching providers but the BT rep told me that he would ensure that my speed would be as high as possible for my area and offered me a monthly discount of sorts upon renewal.
However It is clear to me that BT are limiting my speed to 4 Mbs. I have complained twice to BT and have gotten nowhere.
There are 2 heavy internet users in the household and 4 Mbs shared between 2-3 people is not acceptable when we could have easily gone to another provider.
I suspect heavy users are PUNISHED by having their speed limited.
BT are clearly breaking the contract here, can i cancel and switch provider?
Or can a BT rep here help me fix the problem without me having to do so. thanks.

    welcome to the forum
in order for someone to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems) http://speedtester.bt.com and post the results .
are you connected directly to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Do you have any phone extension sockets in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • 2 months of 'my' problem is a major outage at my l...

I would like to praise the staff at the BT call centre, for doing an excellent job under extreme presure, with little or no help from other BT technicians. for the past 2 months i have been in contact with them about 'my' connection problem. the advisor who took my case called me up to day, to  say that all my woes can be traced to a major service outage at my local exchange, that is not only affecting me, but a lot of people - much to his astonishment and dispair, as no-one in the centre knew anything about the problem.  I only knew of the problem due to using a different modem to the bthub, and a download monitor they are working on the problem, but i wonder how many other people on here are suffering the same 'fault' as me - it being their local exchange, and not them.. by the look of it, quite a few.
below i summarise my journey to discovery (which is/was going to be the basis of my complaint, now fingures crossed - not needed)
Prior to June 30th 2010, I received an email from BT services saying that if I re-signed up on my option 3 plan, my current speed of 7mbps could be increased to around 13mbps – I signed up.
On or about 1st July 2010, Btbroadband suffered a major outage, losing the service for 2 days or so. After about 5 days, I still had not regained a proper service. I was receiving a asdl2 line speed of 0.01Kbp, so I made enquiries with the  BT help desk, who blamed a fault in my BT home hub modem even though I told them I did not use it prior to the problem, and only connected it after calling BT.
The day before my new Bthomehub2 modem arrived, I regained some level of service –
on July 6th  2010, of  around 2420kbps. Although extremely unhappy that my so called upgrade was infact been a downgrade, which had left me with half of what I had had before, I believed the BT help desk who had said their system was not at fault, so resigned my self to be on that speed.
I did a full system overhaul and rolled my system back a couple of months prior to ‘my’ problem, and brought and fitted a netgear router, all  to no effect, with my speed remaining constant at around 2418kbps.
On August 28th 2010, my speed dropped to 1963kbps
On August 29th 2010, my speed dropped to  729kbps
On August 29th 2010, my speed dropped to  340kbps
It then proceeded that my new ‘upto 20mb’ speed was 340kbps, and has remained so.
On  August 31st 2010, at 18.17hrs the BT help desk had my line reset to 6767kbps. I was getting a full  service
On September 1st 2010 by 05:20hrs the connection had dropped to 495kbps. By 07.28, it had reverted back to 340kbps.
On September 4th 2010, after a BT engineers visit, my DSL connection rate had been set to 8124kbps, with my ip profile set at 350kbps. tests on other speed checkers showed a 339kbps connection. I was told that the signal would improve, as it needed to synchronise .The engineer departed at 15.20 on  having done wire test from phone point and computer room. Capability of line was 18.6mb.
I was away that evening, but by the time I returned on September 5th  2010, my connection had reverted back to 340kbps.
Since then, my speed has been an average of around 340kbps.

  • Should BT be able to provide more detail about usa...

Ok, so I've jut done a bit of searching and found what would be a solution to my problem in the "ideas" section... so commented there also, but so I may get a community opinion, what are your thoughts on the subject of BT providing more detailed usage statistics outside of the BroadBand usage monitor in My-BT? (i.e over the phone / by request on mail / even as an attachment on email notification of additional charges???)
So my story that's prompted this...
I have an option 1 10GB limited service and often get close to it - my average usage is actually 10.1Gb according to the usage monitor as I've had a couple of £5 additional use charges now in the past 6 months... However, today I've received a message saying I'd again exceeded the limit for Feb by using 16Gb... this is the most I've been over (plus £10 charge now) and to make matters worse in Feb, BT managed to disrupt my service (completely disconnected & long story!) for nearly 6 days and therefore I would like to "question" the exceeded usage for the first time - I'd raised a dispute today following the complaint process, and promptly received a returned call...
What I wanted was a breakdown of the usage over Feb PER DAY as I'm pretty sure our surfing habits have not changed, yet I'm well above my average usage even considering I had no internet for 20% of the month!!
I'd also like to have seen in the report that there was no increase of data consumed over the "6 day outage period" - as it would have confirmed to me there was nothing strange going on.
FYI if its relevant to usage totals; to resolve my problem, a BT Openreach engineer was required to visit the exchange to re-patch the broadband service in to my residential line... after some other engineer pulled it out! So there is a risk (in my opinion) that the usage for Feb could be misleading if taken over 2 different connections.
For instance, I know my line is syncing faster than previously & the engineer confirmed I'd been re-connected to different infrastructure in the exchange. (e.g from upto 8MB to the upto 20Mb service???)
When I politely asked for the usage detail on the phone today, I had a point blank refusal! I know the customer version of the usage monitor doesnt provide this level of detail, but really BT, are you telling me you do not have (or could create a report) on my usage by day?
This leaves me with a problem because (again in my opinion) BT are able to abuse the "usage" total and top up their revenue as & when they see fit!!! As a customer, I now feel powerless to challenge it!
My only option is to upgrade to a higher service, when out of the principle of handing over more money, I'm not happy to do at the moment - again BT could easily abuse the supplier position to "push" customers into more expensive service!!!
Back to the phone call today, after explaining my problem & concerns, I got nowhere but the BT agent agreed with everything I said (thanks??? ) and basically said she agreed it was a poor service! lol
Is this a new tactic to agree with everything the customer says but then keep repeating the fact they cant help???
So to wrap this up, I have lost trust in BT and the usage "statistics" and would love for them to try and improve this situation, even make some effort to try to rebuild my lost trust!
I'm almost annoyed enough by this if there is a general consensus/concern to take it further to a watchdog type body, the analogy is putting fuel in the motor without any reading/display at the pump... i.e would you really trust the system is regulated and not open to abuse?? And if you ask for evidence and they wont provide any??? Come on BT, time to improve your customer service!!!
Thanks for reading, please let me know if you have similar experiences

Ok, so this is a list of your addons that will work:
Ad-Block Plus: This will work. You'll have to update to version 2.2.2 after you install Firefox 18, but it will work fine.
    Autoformer: This will work fine
iMacros for Firefox: This will also work after an update to 7.6.0.2
Personas: You don't really need this anymore, Firefox has the ability to load Personas built in now. you can remove that add-ons. If you want the addon you can continue to use it.
Tabkit: This was abandoned by it's developer, but you can uninstall it and use https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tabkit-2nd-edition, which is the same thing, just compatible with modern versions of Firefox
Tineye: This will also work after an update to 1.1
All the other extensions you have are disabled.
So, good news, it looks you only need to uninstall tabkit and install tabkit 2, and then update the other add-ons after you install Firefox 18.0.2.
And of course update your plugins ;)

  • Broadband speed in my area

    Hi
First time on here so please excuse me if this question has been asked a million times before!
Can anyone tell me how to find out if my exchange is going to be updated? I live in a house which is only 12 years old in a large 'new town' and I believe there are several exchanges that service the area. Some roads, that I can see from my house, appear to be able to get 'fast' connection, however I'm only able to get a 1mbps speed!!
Can I ask BT to upgrade? Is this something my neighbours and I can campaign for?
    Thanks in advance
    Chris

    Hi,
Your exchange is probably ADSLMax enabled giving your speeds of up to 8mb.

  • Broadband Option 3 up for renewal, still 8mb issue...

I have been on Broadband Option 3 up to 8mb for a while and after numerous calls to BT (India) I have still not managed to have my line upgraded to up to 20mb which the line can carry.  I have had it tested, put the Home Hub info into corresponding websites and been told the line can sustain up to 20mb but for some reason I keep getting fobbed off and told I'll have to wait.
Well my broadband is up for renewal so I thought I'll be holding all the cards as it where.  It appears not.  I still do not have any guarantee that the service I will be getting will be up to 20mb they tall me I'll have to wait for my line to be upgraded.  Well I've waited about 10 months now and are not going to renew unless I get up to 20mb.
I have telephoned the sales desk who put me through to technical support in India who ask me play school questions and get me to perform childish tasks and no matter how many times I tell them I still can't get an up to 20mb contract deal.
What do I do to finally get the service for which I am paying for and the line can sustain?
Your advise and knowledge will be gratefully needed.

    Many thanks all for replying.
I have emailed the mods via the above link (john46) so hopefully they will intervene and sort some out.
In answer to some of the questions my exchange is Chislehurst and I'm only 1.4kms away from my local exchange and have:
Congratulations, you are in a broadband enabled area.
However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection.
The following services are available in your location:
    BT Wholesale ADSL
    BT Wholesale ADSL Max
    BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
    BT Wholesale SDSL
    BT FTTC
    AOL LLU

    TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
    Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
    Tiscali LLU
    Tiscali TV (via Tiscali LLU)
    Virgin Media (Cable)
As you can see the exchange is ready for an upto 20mb broadband service.
I should have mentioned before I have another phone line in the house used purely for broadband.   Lots of family members competing for broadband width and this has been upgraded to 20mb for about a year now.
So if one line is why not the other ??
Anyway, fingers crossed it'll happen once the mods get involved.
    Cheers.

  • We're stuck on ADSL1, when we need ADSL2+ for 'upt...

    Can anyone help?
Have been a BTInternet customer for over 12 years and have recently upgraded the 2mb broadband package to the £24.99 a month 'upto' 20mb package. The changeover was far from straightforward, with mistakes at BTInternet's end, but on 11th November, the new HomeHub2.0 router arrived and things seemed to be happening.
We were quoted we should see download speeds of around 13mb, and we'd be happy with that, as we're realistic about these things.
We'd spotted a speed increase from 2mb broadband (where we were getting download speeds of around 1.5mb) to the levels one would expect from 8mb broadband (speeds varying between 6 and 7.5mb).
Now, my wife (quite expert in these things) spotted our router showed we were locked into ADSL 1 (modulation rating ITU-T G.992.1). So surely we will be capped at 8mb download speeds.
We rang BTInternet (next day, 12th November) and suffered poor conversations with two engineers that insisted we were on ADSL2+ and kept reciting that we'd see better speeds at the end of a 'stabilisation period' and seeing fluctuating speeds now was merely normal. Yes, they were fluctuating, but they'd never fluctuate above 8mb while locked on ADSL1. BTInternet have repeatedly stated our line should see us recieve around 13mb download speeds, which we'd be happy with.
So I rang cancellations to say I was rejecting this 'package' as it is not 'upto 20mb'. I spoke three times to guys in the cancellations department. One guy was understanding and promised to sort out our problem by 4pm (giving him six hours)...but he never phoned back. Another guy, after threatening a £217 cancellation fee (to a customer of 13 years who simply wants the faster speeds everyone else has) forcefully connected us to an engineer that again refused to acknowledge our ADSL1 limitation. And the last guy did make more sense, and promised a switch to ADSL2+ in 48 hours (but it didn't happen).
Now, if any one of these staff assured us they could see we were stuck on ADSL1 with an 8mb limit, but that during the 10 day stabilisation period, we would be flicked to ADSL2+, we'd be quite happy.
But they collectively seem to be ignoring or even denying the stats we can see on our router. My wife is quite expert in these things, managing an IT support team for the Europe, Middle East and Asia department of a company. Some of her home-based team even use BTInternet too, and have compared router stats, so we know what we hope to see.
We fear we are stuck on upto 8mb broadband. And while we spotted it right away and asked for a solution, then asked to reject the service as mis-sold when all staff refused to acknowledge the problem, we fear being forced to sit out this stabilisation period, and then see no change and that we were right all along.
So... We have router stats as folllows...
    ADSL line status
    Connection information
    Line state Connected
    Connection time 1 day, 0:50:57
    Downstream 8,128 Kbps
    Upstream 448 Kbps
    ADSL settings
    VPI/VCI 0/38
    Type PPPoA
    Modulation ITU-T G.992.1
    Latency type Fast
    Noise margin (Down/Up) 6.4 dB / 25.0 dB
    Line attenuation (Down/Up) 31.0 dB / 19.0 dB
    Output power (Down/Up) 19.7 dBm / 11.9 dBm
Will we trully receive 'upto' 20mb broadband speeds like this, or are we right that we need someone within BTInternet to switch us to ADSL2+? And soon!
    Yours faithfully,
    Mr. James F. Ward.

    Hello imjolly,
Thank you for all your help. I did call that number, and while the sales guy seemed bemused to receive my call, he did try to help. He spotted my order was 'rejected' and put me through to order management. The lady there wasn't as pleasant. She did say my order was indeed okay, but also that everything was correct from BTInternet's point of view. Again, she wouldn't acknowledge the fact our router seems stuck on ADSL1 (modulation 992.1) and after supposedly checking with technical advisors and her supervisor, she simply stated all would be well after the 10-day stabilisation period.
She did agree we should see speeds of around 13mb, but when I asked her if, during the stabilsation period, we'd be switched to ADSL2+, she said no, because things were already correctly set up.
Very frustrating in the first instance.
However, this young lady then called us back a few minutes later, and did then let us know that she'd looked further and could actually see the problem, and would organise the problem getting rectified in the next day or two. She gave us the name of a lady would would also then give us a call about the matter.
It's the first time any member of staff, over the phone, has conferred with what we can clearly see at home.
We're hopeful this will soon be sorted.
Thank you imjolly. I'll be back in touch if things get bogged down and remin unsolved.
    Fingers crossed.

  • Infinity direct from Exchange

    Hi
My exchange Brundall EABRU has recently gone live on FTTC but I still cannot order Infinity.
I noticed in the Infinity FAQ that you sometimes cannot get Infinity if your line comes directly from the exchange and fear I fall into that category as my house is 400m from the exchange.
What if anything does BT plan to do to get Infinity or a high speed equivalent to properties fed direct from exchanges.
I saw a mention of something quicker than ADSL 2+ in one posting but can't find it.

At the moment Exchange Only (EO) lines can only support Adsl Broadband (ie ADSLMax which is upto 8mbps or ADSL2+ which is upto 20mb) unless your exchange is FTTP/H ready (Fibre to the Premises/Home)
Unfortunatly most EO lines are currently unable to have fibre broadband such as BT Infinity (FTTC Version) due to your line not connecting to a cabinet which would allow FTTC.
Also BT Retail (a communication provider/ISP who operates this forum) does not have much say as to when and if you will be able to get FTTC or FTTP/H based broadband such as BT Infinity.
The rollout of fibre broadband (FTTC or FTTP/H) is being planned, managed and done by Openreach for all communication provider/ISP. BT Retail (a communication provider/ISP) has nothing to do with the rollout and planning of fibre broadband.
Openreach plan to upgrade EO lines in the future to allow access to Fibre based broadband
Please bear in mind that in some cases it may not be possible to provide FTTC broadband in areas due to:
    • Your phone line may be connected directly to the telephone exchange and not to a local street cabinet - (Exchange Only Line [EO] )
    • Your line may be too far from the local street cabinet to have a stable FTTC broadband service such as BT Infinity service.
    • Your local street cabinet may not be suitable for fibre optic cables.
    • We haven't yet got the council's planning permission to do the necessary work at your local street cabinet.
    • Your home may not be suitable for fibre optic cables.
    • Your landlord may not have agreed to the fibre infrastructure being provided in your building (for example if you live in a flat).
There are different stages to the development of the fibre infrastructure in the UK.
If you have an EO Line then currently you will not be able to have FTTC broadband as your line isn't connected to a cabinet. In these instances Openreach plan to connect some areas that have EO lines with either FTTP or other fibre technologies in the future.

You can keep checking the BT Wholesale Database and BT Infinity website for upto date information as these are updated regularly.
The openreach When and Where website is: http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/
**The Fibre-Optic Broadband Rollout is being managed and done by Openreach for all communication providers/ISPs.
BT Retail (your communication provider/ISP) has nothing to do with the rollout of fibre broadband.**
    Hope that helps.
    Cheers.

  • ADSLmax to ADSL 2+

    Hello to all,
I took out a new contract after reading posts on the forums for adsl 2 upgrade.  I done this , I had confirmation email that my line had migrated over to ADSL 2+ on the 2nd of July 2012. The problem is my BT Homebun 3 is still showing a connection modulation of 992.1 (15th July 2012).  I left it for 10 days for the line.  I have since spoken to the options and technical help teams who have informed me the line is on adsl 2.  So I was wondering what do I do now. ive phoned 4 depts. Can any one help or the mods the best option.
Should this have moved over to 992.2 or 992.5 or is it normal to not move due to the exchange being lazy.
    Cheers for any help
    richard
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
You can contact the Mods to have a look into this for you. They are a BT UK Based Specialist Team who have a good reputation for solving problems with BT Services.
As to the speed, you were probably on adslmax (upto 8mb), whereas adsl2+ gives you upto 20mb. However depending on your line distance could determine if adsl2+ is good for your line.
A good stable line on adslMax may not be a good line on adsl2+. All depends on how far away you are from the exchange and your line condition as ADSL2+ is more aggressive to any noise on your line which could make it unstable.
If your on a long line then BT might upgraded  your line to the 21cn Netwok but not on ADSL2+ as your line might not be stable enough on ADSL2+ so they would put you onto the new 21cn equipment but kept on adslmax.
If your current Line attenuation is 53dB (which would give you a estimated of speed 3.5-4mb on a good line for ADSLMax) then when you move to ADSL2+ your line attenuation might go up by 2dB so your line would be 55dB giving you an estimated speed between 3.5-4mb on ADSL2+ for a good line.
As you can see the downstream speed (download speed) is realtivly the same as your about 3.8km-4km away from the exchange. However with ADSL2+ your upstream speed may go somewhere between 448kb-1mb compared to max upstream speed of 448kb on ADSLMax.
I would contact the Mods and see what they can do.
    Cheers,
    James

  • BT INFINITY - 40 GB USAGE

    Hi,
ive got a question. Yesterday I checked bt page and I discovered that new infinity - "2" is available. But on the same moment I saw that normal infinity had right now usage limit - 40 GB / month. This limit is only new customers or for everyone ???
My landlord sign the contract 7 months ago.
I am waiting for your answers.
Thank you and sorry for my mistakes with language

    Hi
BT Infinity option 1 has the 40GB limit and as far as I am aware always has had that limit.
BT Infinity option 2 is unlimited.
The old Infinity option 1 was limited on the upload I believe it was fixed at 2 mb but now you can upgrade it to 10mb up.
The Old Infinity option 2 can now be upgraded from 40 mb down to upto 76MB down and the up load can be upgraded from 10mb up to upto 20mb and is completely unlimited download.

    Hi moshandy,
I'm also from Barnsley and been waiting for information on this, but unlike you I'm in an area that only has max 2mb but most of the time BT states 1.5mb even after going to ADSL2+
According to Broadband CS the exchange is already ADSL2+ activated, even though BT and most checkers say it's not. BT Infinity was also supposed to be activated soon but BT have pulled all information for that as well.
But if you check the BT Wholesale ADSL Checker it states our exchange is activated for MaxADSL, ADSL2+ and BT Infinity.
Now I'm not sure what part of Barnsley you live in, but I'm in Dodworth which has recently had fibre laid and connected to the BT cabinets by DigitalRegion. They may have also started laying the cable in your area as all of Barnsley is going to receive the service.
This should have also been made available today but currently they are still awaiting for ISP's to sign up to them, and they are guaranting 25mbps speeds all the time.
Now according to BT it's down to Openreach if and when BT can start using both the ADSL2+ and VDSL technologies our exchange is already prepared for. It could be a week or it could be another year, as the exchange upgrade was originally planned for Nov 2008 and was put back to now.
Now Plusnet who are owned by BT also state our exchange is ADSL2+ activated, so not sure if this is BT preventing us consumers from using the technology that is already in place at our exchange, and the exchange + cabinets have been fibred for more than 2 years as Dodworth and 6 other locations around Barnsley where used for the original trials back in 2005 I believe for the fibre network.
I know when speaking to CS yesterday they offered to move me to ADSL2+ but I don't want to move to that as it's no better than what I already get (and to be honest is below the government recommendations of 2mb minimum to all households), I just want to move to the VDSL service asap.....
