BT Vision - recordings to be deleted?

Forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere
My elderly parents have just had a phone call from 08000285085 telling them that unless they watch their recorded programs on their black BT vision box they will be deleted in 14 days. Is this correct?
I also have the same vision box but havn't had a phone call so just wondered if they understood the message correctly.
The only difference between us is that I just have the box (since 2010 I think) without subscription using it just for recording and free BBC iplayer. Dad pays a subscription for Sky Sports 1 & 2
Neither of us pay for infinity although we live in an enabled area.
Is it right then that all recordings are due to be deleted? Why?
many thanks

Hi tattybogle18.
To answer your question:
a) because BT won't have to pay for (expensive?) Microsoft licenses to run the old software anymore, and will be able to invest the savings into more channels and content (which they seem to be in the process of doing)
b) because the old software looked like something that came out of the 90's
c) because in all likelihood the old software would not have been able to support new features like linear channels
d) etc.
Am I really the only one here who thinks the new software looks so much better than the old one?

  • BT Vision Recordings

My recordings are continually wiped off for no reason. I can record programs one evening and check they are there and the next morning they will be gone. Can anyone tell me why this keeps happening. Even one half hour program will be lost overnight.

The chances are the disk thinks it's full. You can check this:
BT Vision -> Settings -> General Settings -> System Information -> System Resources
The system will start to delete programmes if it believes there is less than 20% disk space remaining. Programmes which the box has decided should be deleted will be shown with an exclamation mark beside them in your recordings list. If you don't want the box to remove a recording itself you should set the "Keep until I delete" setting on it. The default is to "Keep until space needed".
Since the iPlayer update there has been a bug in the system which causes the box to think that it has less free disk space than it has. A proper reboot (unplug, count to 100, plug back in again) seems to get the box to recalculate the amount of free disk space. You then need to keep an eye on it to make sure it's not drifting out again.

  • BT Vision recordings menu gone AWOL

Just went to watch some recorded programs and the recordings menu has disappeared!
Tried recording a program and it says to wait while the recording menu is set up but nothing happens,
Any ideas? Its a silver box (not sure of model).
    Cheers

Same happened to ne this afternoon.
Recordings was missing from the BT Vision menu so I pressed 'On Demand' to go to that menu and then pressed 'BT Vision' again and it was back.

  • UCCX: script to automatically delete recordings

Ever since we upgraded form 8.0.2SU2 to 8.0.2SU3, we noticed that Cisco disabled file deletion rights for the uccxrecording account. In SU2, we could psftp to the server and automate download of the files and deletetion of the files. In SU3, uccxrecording doesn't have rights to delete recordings.
The only way is to manually SSH as admin and issue "utils uccx recordings purge". I don't think I need to mention how inconvinient this change was. I tried using plink to automatically SSH to the server to issue this command, but because of how Cisco OS Unix Shell is designed it doesn't work.
Has anyone found any other solution? (apart from going with CR software)

I have the same issue, I managed to automatically save my recordings and manually delete them. Have you found any way to query the available space and automate this task?

  • Previously saved recordings not playing after sche...

I'm on the new BT Vision system.  Received an automated call this week advising of a forthcoming scheduled system upgrade.  The upgrade took place tonight and went ok.
However, when I now go to my Recordings, all of which were saved prior to the upgrade, the screen goes black with the play-bar at the bottom of the screen, as though to start playback, though then simply goes back to the Recordings screen before playback commences.
Also noticed that the amount of blue displayed on the Disk Space bar in the menu page has decreased a fair bit - does this suggest that although my Recordings are all listed still, they have essentially been deleted?
    Thanks.

Your recordings have been deleted and should not actually show.

  • How to get more control over DVR recordings

Looking for some advice on how to make sure the DVR records (and keeps) the episodes I want.
    An example:
I want to record a series that is still producing new episodes, but is also in repeats in syndication.  For example, Big Bang Theory.  This has new episodes each week on CBS, but has about twenty or so repeats each day on TBS.
Due to the high number of repeats, any new episodes pretty quickly get overwritten by the repeats.  So is there a way to record both first-run and repeat episodes, but prevent the first-runs from getting overwritten before I can watch them?

I have no idea if the format has recently been changed or what the issue is, but when I try to get more control over my DVR recordings, I can't. What I mean by that is that I cannot alter "First-Run and Repeats" to "First-Run Only," I cannot specify the specific channel to record on, I cannot say how many episodes I want it to keep, etc. Here is a step-by-step guide of what I do and what the problem is:
I press the "menu" button on the remote. I scroll down to DVR. I select the option of "manage series recordings." I select one of my shows. I'll use "Masters of Sex" as my example. I select "Masters of Sex." It's at this point where I get a problem. When I select "Masters of Sex," the only option I get is to cancel the series. No option to only record first-runs. No option to keep only 3 episodes instead of 5. No option to change it so it saves until I manually record it. Nothing. I've tried not selecting "Masters of Sex" and instead using the right arrow button to scrol over to the settings of the show. But nothing happens when I do that. It doesn't give me access to these options. This is incredibly frustrating because not only do the shows delete automatically at a certain point, but it records EVERY SINGLE AIRING OF EVERY SINGLE SHOW I RECORD. This means I have to go through several times a day to the "Scheduled Recordings" section and delete scheduled recordings of shows I have already seen. It's absolutely ridiculous, particularly for cable shows, which air episodes frequently throughout the week. Please help me if you can.
Put simply, I cannot change the settings on how I record each show.
Try the Box's Menu/customer support/tops support tools/Fix Fios TV option. (exact working may be different on your box)

  • What is the order of deletions when a DVR is full

My DVR is nearly full and I have a number of items marked for recording in the next two weeks one of which will surely bring DVR to 100% full. What is the order in which the DVR will begin deleting previously recorded programs to make room for latest recordings?  Normally, the oldest recordings will be deleted.... with the X1 system DVR, you can select to KEEP for 1 year or select "Space is needed" within the DVR manager.. -=Ray=-

Sounds like an external hard drive might be something to investigate for your DVR.

  • All my planned recordings have gone

All my recordings have been deleted. I recently had a problem with my SKY+ HD box freezing so powered down and then back up again, unfortunately after doing this all my recordings had gone and were not in the deleted. I am really miffed about this as I had recorded the whole series of Game of Thrones and have now lost and cannot watch Grrrrrrrr Has anyone else experienced this ???

    Try the instructions below:
    Planner Rebuild
If restarting your Sky+ box hasn't resolved the problem, follow these steps to rebuild the Planner.
Please note: Rebuilding your Planner will not delete any of your previous recordings. However, it will interrupt any recordings currently in progress, so it's best to proceed when you’re not recording a programme.
    1. Press services on your Sky remote.
    2. Press the right arrow button to highlight Settings.
    3. Press select.
    4. Press 0, then 1, followed by select. You'll now see a new set of screens that are normally hidden from view, with the Setup screen selected.
    5. Press the left/right arrow buttons to highlight Sky+ Rebuild.
    6. Press select. You'll now see this message: "This will take a few minutes to complete. The rebuild will stop all recordings and reboot your Sky+HD".
    7. Press select. The onscreen message "Housekeeping please wait" will appear and then disappear within two minutes.
    8. The Planner rebuild will now go ahead, and may take up to two further minutes. Once complete, your Sky+ box will automatically switch itself off and then back on. You will then see the red standby light on your Sky+ box (newer boxes have an amber standby light).
    9. Wait for at least two minutes after the red standby light has appeared.
    10. Press sky on your remote control.
Your Sky+ box should now start up as normal, with the light changing to green. Once your Sky+ box has started, try to use the Planner to record and view programmes as usual.

  • How to stop securuty/indexing breach for privacy?

How do you stop Leopard from indexing and cataloguing all your activities / opened docs /viewed pics etc.? You can hide the tabs or viewing option but if it is turned on again all the data and activity is still there. It seems this is a major security/privacy breach and a step backwards.Time machine is not turned on. The icons are called today, yesterday and past week and are found under "search for" on the bottom left of every opened folder. Is there a way to turn off the recordings or to delete them.Creating another user account is not a solution I'm looking for.
    Cheers

    Georgy
Keep in mind that the index is stored on the drive that is being indexed. As such, indexing an external volume does not affect your main drive.
Remember also, that when you do update your external drive, the indexing only updates the changes made to the drive on the fly, provided of course if it is mounted and allowed to do so.
My suggestion, let Spotlight index the drive. Particularly if you are using it as a backup. Once in place, updating the index and searching is extremely fast.
Be careful however, of using third-party solutions. Some will affect Spotlight's normal indexing process and their preferences have to be changed for Spotlight to work.

Attempting to clean up my +box and it won't let me delete or action recordings (VRC 004) is displayed on the red banner at every attempt. Even scheduled recordings are failing. Any help?

  • How to delete Zen Vision:M empty playlis

I've run into this problem twice now in the less than one week I've owned my Zen Vision:M. I create a playlist either through Winamp 5.2's Portable Media Player plugin (which is simple, but is OK for managing music) or through the Creative MediaSource software. In the second case, I imported an existing playlist, then created a new playist on my ZVM, then copied the songs from the old playlist to the new playlist. That is the process that I read about someone else using in these forums.
    Problems:
() Songs appear to be duplicated in the process and it takes forever for the playlist to be finalized. That's been mentioned enough in these forums and isn't the issue at hand.
    (2) Multiple playlists with the same name appear on the ZVM with all (or nearly all) of them empty. To be honest, I don't know if they are all empty because it appears to have made one playlist per song in copied over and I don't have the patience to look through all 40 of them. Only one playlist with this name appears when viewing via Creative MediaSource or any other software I've tried.
    (3) I deleted the playlist via Creative MediaSource, hoping to clean up the problem. The result was that the single valid playlist disappeared, but the empty ones remained and are only visible on the ZVM itself. I've tried deleting them one by one on the ZVM, but when I leave the playlists, then re-enter the menu they are all magically there again.
The first time I solved this by returning my player to the store and getting a replacement, but this appears to be an "undocumented feature". Anyone familiar with this or know how I can clean out the invalid playlists? Thanks!

Well, I contacted Creative's support staff today. Summary: there is nothing to do except reformat my ZVM and start over from scratch. Not exactly a solution, but that's the state of things as of today. If anyone else runs into this problem, please contact Creative so as to give them incenti've to fix this bug as soon as possible. Of course, I could also state the obvious that the best solution is to support standard playlist functions or importing of standard playlists. THAT would make LOTS of people happy!
    That's all folks.
[EDIT] I found a fix that didn't involve formatting the dri've. Support sent me a link (http://us.creative.com/support/kb/article.asp?l=3&sid=4794) to walk me through the formatting process and I decided to try "Clean up" first. It messed with a couple of my settings, but cleaned off the nasty empty playlists and meant I didn't have to transfer all my music again. Whew!Message Edited by digiman on 07-06-2006 09:27 AM

  • Flag multiple recordings for deletion?

I think I see what you're saying. Are you talking about a "multi-select" function to grab multiple shows for deletion?   Anon24542 wrote:
@mycooler - thanks, but I'm not referring to a group (i.e. a folder) of recordings with the same name, but rather a list of recordings.

I fear this may be another feature I've lost after moving to the X1 platform (i.e. no buffer recording, no reminders, no favorites button, etc.), but ... is there any way after pressing the Xfinity button // Saved // Recordings to display the list of recordings, to FLAG a subset of them and then press OK (or the "D" button) ONCE to delete them all? As it stands, to delete say 10 recordings, I must successively highlight each one, press "D", press OK to confirm ("Delete Now"), then wait 5 agonizing seconds before "Successfully Deleted" finally disappears! (p.s. I already KNOW it's been deleted successfully because it's disappeared from the list, so why the painful confirmation message?) Anyway, thanks in advance for your thoughts.

  • How can I delete songs/recordings off ITunes?

For some reason, when I open audio recordings, it automatically opens in ITunes.  As a result, I have a huge ls of audio interviews in my Itunes play list which I'd like to get rid of.  The problem is, when I try to delete it, it is greyed out in the options.  Anyway to deletes items from your play list?

If iTunes is connected to files outside the designated iTunes Media folder then it won't offer to delete them when the tracks are removed from the library. See KillSelectedFiles for a tool that can do this.
Alternatively you could consolidate your library so that all tracks are inside the media folder, but the downside with that is that you then have to hunt down the originals to delete. Or, instead of using iTunes own consolidate command, you could use my script ConsolidateByMoving.
