BTYahoo premium mail and SSL

HI,
I have a BTYahoo Premium email account which I pay £1.50 a month for.
Should I be able to connect to mail.btinternet.com via SSL?
I have changed the settings to 465 and 995 for SSL in my outlook client but get the following error:
socket error 10061, error number 0x800CCC0E
I also have a gmail account setup in outlook which connects using these ports so I know I can send and receive using them.
TIA

Sadly, no.

Sent a email complaint yesterday to BT....This is what the response was...
"Jastinder, you will need to contact our premium mail tech team on 0800 111 4567 and they will be able to go through this with you. Im sorry that I can not help you with your complaint it will have to go through our tech team. "
Incredible, they have been the people I have been dealing with for the last month and the people I am complaining about. Rather than escalate the matter with that department internally in order to resolve it like any other complaints department would they want me to resolve it myself..?? It is like going to a shop's manager to complain about a member of their staff only to be told by that manager that they cannot help and I would need to speak to that member of staff that I was complaining about.
Surely this is not how complaints are dealt with (or are they within BT). Surely they should have escalated this matter themselves to the Tech Team and ensured that I received a response. They never even acknowledged anything I said within the complaint regarding a resolution or customer loyalty....
It was one thing being frustrated by that fact that this issue has dragged on for a month, but it's another matter that my complaint has been washed aside in this manner....I'm totally disgusted and the best thing is now to cancel my Premium Mail Service immeditately and change my telephone service over to o2...

  • Problems with Apple Mail and SSL SMTP

All of a sudden I'm having trouble sending mail through SMTP when using SSL on port 465.
No other mail clients (Outlook, Thunderbird, Entourage) have the problem.
    It was working then quit.
I'm scratching my head. Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Rob

Try using a different use account on your computer. If that works, then you know it is a problem with some config files. If so, then move /Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist to your Desktop. Restart mail and put in settings. Ideally, it should then work. Good luck!

  • Mail and SSL IMAP (Also iPhone)

Just recently got my phone, and love it, especially the email since I've got IMAP and the mailbox syncing is very very nice. However, I noticed that when I originally set up my email account (through my hosting and domain account at hostmonster.com) Mail had an issue with redownloading and syncing folders throughout the mail account. This appears to only be an issue with SSL logging in (which uses a different incoming and outgoing address) because when SSL isn't set up, the folders sync well; I can check email on my iPhone, move it or delete it, or just read it and Mail does the exact same thing when I get home and open Mail.
    So, two things about this:
-Does Mail just not like IMAP connection through SSL? (I deleted the account and tried again in the Mail preferences with the same results)? The iPhone which used the same settings (until it was synced I presume) worked fine using SSL over wifi or EDGE.
-Does iPhone change the settings when it's updated? Although it's not entirely necessary at this point, I'd like my email to have some form of encryption over networks, especially free open ones.
Or, is it just some anomaly possibly with domain/hosting/email provider?

Nevermind, it seemed to have corrected itself. I noticed that an outgoing server for Gmail was being used on Mail, and that might have confused it, so I reset it and things seem to work fine now.

  • Mail and SSl can not send  email

I am having a problem with sending mail in 10.7.3 and mail 5.2
The email account is a pop3 account.  It worked fine for a long time.Last week it started to fail to send outgoing emails
I have deleted the account and added it back. Also have deleted the outgoing mail server.(when you delete a mail account it doesn' automaticly
delete the out going mail server)
I have another computer with the same email account and it works fine
Finally I unchecked use SSL and The account can now send emails.
User name and password are set correctly.
I talked to apple and they are blaming it on Frontier.
I have read other posts here about ssl problems with 10.7.2 and Imap accounts

  • Mac Mail and SSL

Hi, I'm sure this may have been answered before, but I can't find what I'm looking for. I use Mail.app to view my Gmail inbox and to send email from my Gmail account.
I'm not sure about the SSL part, though. Does anyone know for sure that the moment I press send on Mail.app, the email is encrypted to Gmail's mail servers and then sent on its way.
So, for example, can I safely send mail from Mail.app in a public WiFi area and be sure that it's encrypted? Is there a default option in the settings of Mail.app, or do I need to do something special?
Also, when Mail.app downloads mail over IMAP, is that encrypted too?
    Thanks a lot,
    mark

Thanks. I guess it's not just mine.
If you figure out what's happening let me know!
    Thanks again!

  • Profiles, Certificates, Mail, and SSL

Strictly speaking, I have an iPod Touch 32G with iPhone software 2.2 (5G77a) for this problem. Expect my problem is exactly the same as for an iPhone.
iTunes synced my email account information just fine for a work POP3 account, work Exchange account, and gmail via IMAP. But not for my personal FreeBSD-hosted IMAP account which uses Dovecot and a self-signed certificate generated with the script provided in Dovecot.
Have been using this configuration for years with Mail.app. Every year I generate a new certificate and prior to MacOS 10.5 used to move it into "X509 Anchors" or some similarly named place with Keychain Access.app.
First problem resolved was my FreeBSD machine was named "opus.local" in my DNS. Tcpdump showed the iPod was trying to find it via mDNS. Reconfigured my internal DNS server to use .home rather than .local. Had to make new certificate for Dovecot and reconfigure Mail.app on my Mac Pro.
Now dovecot complains to FreeBSD's /var/log/maillog that the iPod connected via TLS but "Aborted login (no auth attempts)". The iPod says "Cannot Get Mail: The connection to the server "opus.home" failed." Tcpdump shows dovecot sending the certificate. The console in iPhone Configuration Utility only says:
Wed Dec 24 21:55:18 unknown MobileMail[37] <Warning>: ERROR: The connection to the server "opus.home" failed.
So after much study I have created a profile and "Shared" it using iPhone Configuration Utility version 1.1. Put my .cer in Credentials, emailed it to a working account, then the iPod complained about not having a Mail profile and rejected the whole thing.
Made a profile including mail with IMAP via SSL on port 143. iPod installed this one. Didn't work. Viewing the profile on the iPod showed port 993 was selected, not 143, and being a profile it was locked against change.
Tried emailing the .cer file only. That succeeded in installing a certificate after deleting the previous profile. The iPod created a profile which only has my certificate, but is still not communicating with dovecot on opus.home.
Watching the communication with tcpdump the two exchange a good number of small packets before the iPod gives up.
My self-signed certificate is RSA with a 128 byte public key (1024 bits).
    What am I doing wrong?
Message was edited by: David Kelly1

Worked on this for weeks before posting. So after posting the above I disabled SSL on the mail account on the iPod. Enabled "PLAIN" authentication in Dovecot for non-encrypted sessions. And was able to download email.
Then I went back and re-enabled SSL. Checked email and finally got the message about the certificate possibly not secure (its self-signed).
Disabled the non-encrypted PLAIN in Dovecot, and everything still works!
There is something about iPhone 2.2 software that doesn't work with a self-signed certificate until after some traffic has moved through the account.

  • Keeping my BT Yahoo Premium Mail Account, I am hav...

I cancelled my BT Broadband Option 3 subscription around Nov 20th 2011 and I discovered on the internet that my BT Yahoo Premium mail would be terminated 90 days after my BT Broadband was cancelled, I've had my bt email account for around 10 years so I don't want to lose it.
I've been running around in circles trying to get the £1.54 monthly charge setup so that I can keep my exisiting BT Yahoo email account all have lead to a dead end .. could you please help me .....
Here are some problems listed below that I've encountered:-
    1) I navigate to the following BT website link where it advertises to 'keep my email' account for bt yahoo premium for £1.54 / month, I enter my email account and it states "there is a problem with the status of your account" and doesn't allow me to progress further with the upgrade. Here is the link...
    http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=26508&s_cid=con_FURL_...
I still have a bt.com/btyaoo account and a BT landline and I can setill see broadband being billed for Nov 2011 so I don't understand why it will not allow me to upgrade here on the link above.
    2) I was advised by BT operatives to go to the following alternative BT web page to upgrade to BT Yahoo premium mail and most of you will be more familiar with this one... however it only allows the user to generate a NEW BT Yahoo email address NOT KEEP your EXISTING email address despite the link advertising that you can keep it..... after entering my bank account details and I enter my btopenworld email account the web page stops with an error stating that my BT Yahoo email adress is 'already taken': here is the link, also there is a link from my http://home.bt.yahoo.com/  'my account' page to the very same link stated below... the link is named 'Upgrade To Premium Mail' which is very deceptive as it is not an upgrade of your exisiting email account its an entirely new email address that it allows you to create only and this is no good. Here is the link .. with the premium link right at the bottom...
    https://register.btinternet.com/cgi-bin/registernow?version=ie5&ex=1&product_type=PMR
    3) I was advised by a BT operator to contact the BT Yaho premium mail team on the phone (I have a BT phone landline btw) and I called 0808 100 6778 Option 2 (email) Option (1 Change email) on a Sunday at 11am and all I got was the following message then the line cut off, the team should have been there as the message stated but the help service team was not available which is perplexing .. here is the message is this service dead ?
"Welcome to BT our advisors are available from 9am to 9pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 6:30pm Saturday to Sunday"
     Not true...
I remember calling the yahoo premium email team around the 20th Nov 2011 (about a month ago) and they told me that I would receive an email warning me that my BT Yahoo email account would be cancelled in 90 days with an option to upgrade to premium... this email has not been received (I even checked bt yahoo spam folder) hence why I am getting worried about not being able to renew my BT Yahoo Email Account.
    4) I called up other BT Broadband and technical numbers but they can detect from my BT landline that I no longer have BT Broadband so those numbers are not availale to me for help.
In summary it seems that you do have a service to upgrade to BT Yahoo Premium Email for BT users who have left BT Broadband but it is EXTREMELY difficualy to obtain to customers who are willing to pay for this service. Can anyone out there please help me. If I lose the email account it is a very serious matter to me as I have had it around 10+ years.

I'm moving from BT Broadband. I'm wanting to keep the email address and have found that going here...
    http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12682/~/what's-the-difference-between-bt-yahoo!-premi...
and then clicking on www.bt.com/premiummail gets you:
Sorry, this page is currently unavailable
The tip (as stated above) about phoning the number above worked well.
I was told by the support person there is a 90 day grace period after the end of the BT Broadband and an email will come through on about day 86. The guy on the phone said ring the same number again then to upgrade to subscribe to the service.
If there is a department in BT that looks at things that don't work on their website it might be worth fixing this.

  • Re: BT Yahoo Premium Mail

    Hi,
How do you apply for BT Yahoo Premium Mail and associate the application with an existing @btinternet.com e-mail account?
I only got the option to create a new account and an error when I tried to re-use my existing e-mail account.
    Thanks

    Try these instructions instead.
Moving from BT e-mail to Premium Mail   -  by forum member alcook101
Following moving from BT Broadband to another supplier I wanted to keep my btinternet email addresss.
Having just wasted a lot of time trying to get this sorted out, this how I got it sorted out.
    THE FOLLOWING DOES NOT WORK:
    1) The BT website options do not work. The web page is not set up for chrome. When using internet explorer it just came up with "problem with account" when I tried to log in.
    2) Ringing 0800-633-5335 - option 3 - the operator (David) did not really know what he was doing and I got nowhere. In the usual BT way was very polite and the same time completely unhelpful.
    THE FOLLOWING WORKED:
In the end I rang 0800-633-5335 option 2. I got through to someone called "Sid".
He eventually took my mobile number and rang through to another department to "downgrade" my email. This is a requirement of BT before upgrading to BT Premium email.
Sid rang me back and said it was all sorted and that the charge was £ 1.54 per month. Therefore my emails and the email address would be preserved.
He said there was a fault with the system in which a password change would be asked for. He said to ignore this - for this situation password change is not required.
Sid then said that billing would be separate and could not be included on a BT bill. Therefore bank details were required.
This didn't sound too good, however I didn't have much choice.
When logging into my email I then got this message:
    Service Change
    Thank you for changing services.
With this service change, you will be receiving the following level of service:
    PRODUCT LEVEL OF SERVICE
Mailbox Storage Unlimited primary, Unlimited sub
    Photo Storage Unlimited
    Number of Sub Accounts

  • How do I get BT Yahoo Premium Mail?

I am about to move from BT to another broadband provider, but I want to keep my btinternet email address. I understand I need to move to (and presumably pay for) BT Yahoo Premium Mail (I am on BT Yahoo Mail not BT Mail) but I can't find out how to do that?

You can call BT on 0800.100.6778 who should be able to move it for you or see this link

  • Ordering Premium Email and BT ID

    Hello,
A few days ago, I received a BT email informing me I had just 30 days to keep my btinternet.com email addresses, either by switching ISP to BT Broadband or signing up for BT Premium Mail.
I have a primary email account and several sub-accounts (used for 10+ years), so will plump for Premium Mail but am confused about the ordering process.
It appears to require a 'BT ID':
    1) If I already have a BT ID (we have a BT landline), should I use this?
    2) If yes, should the BT ID Username (email address) match the primary email account?
(my existing BT ID username/email is a sub-account of my primary email address.)
    3) Alternatively, could I create an additional BT ID (just for Premium Mail) or would this cause a problem? i.e. are multiple BT IDs at the same address allowed?
(I did speak to somebody in the Indian Call Centre - 0808 100 6778 - but they were not able to assist).
    Thanks for any help!

I went through the screens to order Premium Mail and entered:
    - Start Order: Login Details = primary btinternet.com email address
    - Personal Details: Contact Details = existing 'BT ID' username (i.e. a sub-account btinternet.com email)
    - On reaching the 'Billing and Payments' screen - setting up a 'Direct Debit'
The screen rejected my Joint Account Name as it contains an ampersand (&) symbol, e.g. 'A & B SURNAME'
This is strange, as I thought '&' is a commonly used symbol for joint account names?
At this point I cancelled out of the order.
    So:
    1) Can I pay for Premium Mail with a different bank account (single holder) to the one used for my existing BT phone line? An earlier screen had stated that 'any monthly charges will be added to your regular BT bill'
i.e. does 'myBT'/Billing allow different BT services to be paid from different bank accounts?
    or
    2) Can I enter a slightly different account holder name on the DD screen to get through the validation? e.g. 'A AND B SURNAME' (rather than 'A & B SURNAME')

  • Move to BT Premium mail messed up

I changed my ISP away from BT. I therefore got the warning about my mail accounts being deleted. I was quite happy to move to BT Premium mail and pay the fee.
I have 1 main account and 1 sub account but the main account would not permit me to apply for BT Premium mail so I raised a case with the helpdesk. I was contacted by Helpdesk and the technician guided me through applying for Premium mail via the sub account. I pointed out what was likely to happen (the sub account would be migrated and the main account not). He assured me all would be well on the phone and both accounts would remain related.
Yes you have guessed it - they have not. The sub account is indeed on Premium mail but shows no relationship to the main account. I can still access mail on the main account but i cannot manage the main account anymore (change password, etc).
I realise this is just another part of the fallout from the BT Mail migration last year but might be a warning for others.
Could one of the Mods on here please assist if at all possible?
I urgently need to get these accounts related again before all my mail is deleted from the main  account who is actualy paying the bill for this service.
I woud be most grateful for any such assistance

  • Switch to Premium Mail

I have had a BT email address ever since I took out a broadband package ten years ago.  I stopped being a BT broadband customer a long time ago but continued to use the BT email address.  I recently had the email to say that the service would be stopped unless I took action.  So, I dutifully signed up to have BT Premium Mail at a cost.  I requested that the Direct Debit form be posted to me.
It's a couple of weeks later now and I haven't heard anything.  I keep getting emails to tell me to activate my account but it requests an accoutn number which I do not have.
I cannot afford to those this email address or the emails in the mailbox but I don't know what to do next.  The BT support site sends me round in circles.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I am in the same situation. I had BT broadband for over 10 years then switched to Sky a few years ago. I've been using btyahoo for free since then but it now it seems BT want to charge for email. I set up the DD to BT and am now at the activation stage. If you click the link in your email about activation it takes you to the relevent page where you need to input your account number. Being a non BT customer (apart from Premium Mail) you need to click the link on that page to have your account umber sent to you by post. I did this and the account number arrived but when i enter it the continue button does nothing, even though a tick apperas next to my entered account number to confirm it is a valid one. Any ideas guys?
I should add that you only need to pay the  monthly amount of £1.60 for your main mail email address and you get to keep up to 10 sub account email addresses that you might have set up. This is handy as I thought I would have to pay a further £1.60 for my wife's email address.

  • Issues with Mail and SMTP and Gmail Accounts

So this isn't a question....more like a solution that I had to figure out.
We have multiple gmail accounts in our family and after upgrading to OSC Yosemite our gmail accounts wen't haywire.  My wife was sending emails that eventually were sent from my gmail account (mass neighborhood emails at that.....and all replies came to me instead of her).  I spent about 2 hours investigating and put together several different threads that finally fixed out problem.  The root of the issue is that you can share the same Incoming Mail Server for all of your gmail accounts and your mail will go to the accounts that it is supposed to go to, but you have to have individual Outgoing Mail Servers for each of your accounts otherwise all outgoing mail will come from one account only.  I don't know why this happened, it is a pain in the butt, but here's how I fixed it with 3 gmail accounts running through 1 mac.
1st - you need to remove all of your gmail accounts from mail via Internet Accounts in Settings. Just highlight the account and hit the minus sign at the bottom.  You won't lose anything if you have your gmail settings set to default which backs everything up to Google's servers....it will all load back to you mac and it will all be available online at gmail.com
2nd - you need to add back all of your accounts one at a time (and follow all of the following steps for each account before adding another).  Select the plus sign and choose Google (for gmail accounts only).
3rd - Give your gmail account a recognizable name in the "Name" field (if you have multiple Gmail accounts to add, you will want to distinguish between them).
4th - type in your username ([email protected]) and password.  Make sure to add the suffix @gmail.com.
5th - Check the boxes that you want to add to your mac (mail, contacts, calendars, messages, notes).
6th - Click the "Details" button to ensure that you have an adequate description (see # 3 above) if you are going to have multiple gmail accounts to add.
7th - Open the Mail app.
8th - From Mail Preferences/Account Information Tab - make sure that you account is Enabled (check box next to "Enable Account", make sure that you have an adequate description name, email address is correct, Incoming mail server is imap.gmail.com, Username is your normal gmail login username (absent any suffix like .gmail.com), password is your gmail password.
9th - Then, from Preferences click on the Advanced tab and....Uncheck "Automatically detect and maintain account settings".
10th - Then, go back to Account Information Tab and.....from the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) dropdown box, select Edit SMTP List....
11th -  You need to create an individual SMTP Server Account for each gmail account that you plan to add.
12th - To do this click the plus button.  Server Name should always be smtp.gmail.com.  Type in your own Description (I recommend naming it after the gmail account that you plan to attach it to).
13th - TLS Certificate should be "None"
14th - Click the Advanced Tab - From here, uncheck the box for "Automatically detect and maintain account settings".  Then make sure Port is 587 (default is 25 for some ungodly reason).  Check the box for "Use SSL".
15th - Set authentication to "Password".  User name MUST contain a suffice (i.e [email protected]).  Password is your normal gmail password.
    16th - Click OK.
17th - Now your back at Preferences/Account Information - Link your account to the SMTP server that you just created by using the dropdown box next to Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP).
18th - Save all changes and close out of Mail App.
19th - Restart Mail and recheck steps 8-15....for some reason my passwords kept getting erased, but they eventually saved and took.
20th - Add another gmail account by following these steps and then recheck all along the way for passwords, suffixes, everything.  You will want to make sure that your accounts are all properly linked to their respective Outgoing Mail Servers (hence the distinct naming descriptions).
21st - Once you have added multiple accounts send email between them to make sure that they are being sent from and received to the correct accounts.

Wow! Oh my goodness Patrick, thank you so much man. That's a ton of informatiion to take the time to write out step by step and share with strangers.  I really, really am grateful to you.  I've been dealing with this for a month, half the month I kept changing my passwords and kept assuming I was making some mistake.  It used to work fine.  About a week ago I started looking for a solution and couldn't find one that worked.
You have changed that sir!  I'm good to go, stress level will lower when I am on my Mac, and I'm so glad to not have all these messages popping back up that I was done with!
Muchos Gracias Amigo!  Owe you one...
