Bug in List-representation at MIDP for PALM?

Hi There,
in my MIDlet on a Palm I've got a screen with a list. The size of the list is dynamic, I can add and delete items on it. When I have more items on the list than the display can show, there are two arrows (up and down-arrows) on the screen, with whose I can scroll down (or up).
Now there is one error: if the list fits just perfect into the screen, the arrows appear ... ok, that is not very bad - but if I push the down-button, the whole system crashes and I have to make a soft-reset ... this error does not appear on the same MIDlet running on Pocket PC or Symbian OS ... can someone tell me how to avoid it?
I am using a Handspring Visor with Palm OS 3.5.2H2.0
Thanks,
Jens

  • MIDP for Palm OS

I'm getting a bit confused between the cldc + palm overlay (com.sun.kjava) and the new hype regarding MIDP for Palm OS. Is com.sun.kjava going away, or is it another tool for another purpose?

    Any ideas on implementing pdb-like functionality?Hi c2cate:
Sun has modified the com.sun.kjava classes. The most recent j2me_cldc installation includes updates to the com.kjava.api package. I'm using this package and will continue to do so. It's in my development environment and will stay there until I remove. Therefore, does it really matter if and when Sun choses to stop supporting/modifing the com.sun.kjava at some later date?
I've written a server-side API that extracts data from mainframe-databases and server-databases and creates PDB formatted files which are then installed onto the Palm. I've used the com.sun.kjava widgets to develop a Customer Relationship Management application that contains over 20 screens and accesses (7) different PDBs. I've also enhanced the Palm Spotlet to now allow the users to access data from the PDB or to request and receive data via a wireless connection with strong-encryption which also updates the respective PDB record.
P.S. Mr. Bill Joy , I'm more concerned with the following:
    - I can create PDBs externally and install them onto a Palm, initializing the Palm with data.
    - PDB data is accessable by other Spotlets and applications.
    - I can HotSync the modified PDBs back to the server-side and mainframe-side databases.
    - Can I create RMSs externally and install them onto a Palm or Cell phone?
    - Why is RMS data accessable only by those Midlets contained in the suite.
    - Can I HotSync the modified RMSs back to the server-side and mainframe-side databases.
    - Can the RMS classes read PDBs?

  • Infrared / Serial ports access in MIDP for Palm

    Hello,
Do you guys know if MIDP for Palm allows to connect to the IR / Serial ports ? If yes, any examples ?
    Thanks,
    Vadim.

I'm very interested by your discussion, i have searched a lot of information about midp and the access to the serial port.
The specifications of midp says that the comm protocol is not available in midp.
The IBM J9 Java VM is supposed to be full midp implementation but only only for x86 processors. The lcdui package is not available with the J9 VM for palm. The lasts contact i have with ibm about this subject, they said that they will implement lcdui but they can't say when .... perhaps in 2002.
I don't know any other Java VM witch have a full midp implementation ... Kada VM will be but i don't know when ...
If you have any other information, i'm very interested
    Thanks by advance

  • MIDP for Palm on OS 4.0?

    Hi,
The ea version of the palm midp says it is for Palm OS 3.5. Has anyone tried this with OS 4.0? (such as the Sony Clie 610?)
    Thanks!

    [robycox],
The current MDIP APIs is not officially tested on the the release of Palm OS i.e. v4.0.
Other 3rd party companies have released their very own CLDC compliant kVM for the Palm OS e.g. Jbed Micro Edition CLDC[tm] from Esmertec:
    http://www.esmertec.com/p_jbed_cldc_long.html
The requirements for the kVM by Esmertec states Palm OS 3.3 or above, so their VM might work on the PalmOS 4.0

  • Is MIDP for plam fully support the Palm OS 4.0 ??

I am currently doing the research on develop the application using MIDP for Palm.
I decide to buy the m500 which running on Palm OS4.0. May I know whether the Palm OS 4.0 support and fully tested on MIDP application ?
In my design, the PDA will link to the web server by using the Ethernet cradle to exchange the information. This is the way that i think it is efficient to send the HTTP request. Is it possible using the serial cable to send the http request thru the desktop? pls suggest other method.
    Thank in advance ...

Is the MIDP run slow on the Palm OS 3.5 emulator???
izzit faster when running on the device??? Yep, midelts on real device run faser.
How much faster? hard to say, it depends on application
    and your PC.
I have noticed that my midlets run about 7-10 times
faster on PDA than in emulator running on PIII-1GHz-256MBRam
and i always get and pop-up error about
memory while running on the emulator for any midp
sample program.Yep. Same here. POSE shows errors, when midlet uses some
of gui classes (Gauge). However, on real device never had
    those errors.
I have tried different ROM mages, but no luck.
So far, I just press <continue>...

  • Finding an MIDP file for Palm OS

    Dear all,
I'm new to Java ME, and i'm very keen in developing a Java application for my Palm Treo device. I understand that I can download a MIDP for the palm device on Windows, particularly from the developers.sun.com site (the zip file is midp4palm-1_0.zip). However the sun hyperlink is a dead line (as the page is not found).
I tried doing google, but no luck.
Does anyone know any other website of which i can download this file?
    Anyones help is much appreciated.
    Kind regards,

  • Bug fix list for JDev 10.1.2

I would like to know if exists any bug fix list for JDev 10.1.2, and where I can find it, if exists.
    Thanks in advanced.

Hi Shay, of cours Chris is right. The main reasons for this is
    1. We need to convince our management to invest in the efforts to update to a new version, find workarounds for new bugs, make complete tests of our product, update the installed base, ....
    2. We need to check if there are any unknown but critical fixed and we need to update our installed base.
    3. We need to decide how fast we need to update installed base.
    4. If there are 998 IDE bugs fixed and only one BC4J and one UIX bug, i think we will wait for the 10g final release...
Like most engineering teams in the world we have to fight with limited resources, so there is no chance to spend much time without a real need.
    Thanks, Markus
Btw. Even for the Oracle Database release there is always a list of fixed bugs. And this list also most often really scares me.

  • Calendar Sync for Palm won't install Conduit

Hi, I'm trying to install Calendar Sync for Palm 10.1 on Windows 2K. Installation proceeds with no errors, but the conduit does not appear in the Hotsynch conduit list. It does remove the default conduits for Calendar, Date Book and To-Do. I've tried uninstalling Palm Desktop and Calendar synch, and reinstalling them, no luck. HotSynch works fine with the conduits that are left, and works with the default conduits if I don't install the Oracle Calendar Synch. I can't find any mention of this problems on the forum, does anyone have an idea of what could cause it?
    Thanks.

There's a bug on the conduits as to were to find needed DLLs. It depends on setting itself in the path via environment variables.
The thing is that the conduits are not compatible with other Oracle client installations, which also add themselves to the path. An example is Oracle's Instant Client.
Check your system's path to see if you have any other Oracle client directories before CalSync's directory.
I had a TAR created for this and supposedly they will be 'patching' it for next version...

  • Calling all Act! for Palm Users

I've been working with a T5 and Act! for Palm OS (lately, version 2) for a couple of years now. I don't get much useful feedback from Sage about this product, and don't think that they are paying particularly much attention to the long list of bugs I seem to have run into. They have their own users' forum, but I cannot seem to find many people using this product. I'm trying to figure out if there are really very few people out there using Act! for Palm (along with Act!, naturally), or if I'm one of the few people stuck with it. I figure if I can track some people down, I'll be able to get a better idea if the many problems I am having with the program are unique or are system bugs. Anyone who feels like replying, please do. Thanks.
    Post relates to: Palm TX

    Gary,
I'm glad to hear that your version of Act for Palm is working. Basically, it was full of bugs and you have either been lucky or you have not stumbled across those particular functions that they never programmed correctly. I don't believe that it will work with the Pre, but you should simply try it out. Sage (Act) division is a minor part of the company and there is no active customer support. They have a strategy which includes updating their programs, and selling the fixes in the next version. They do not eliminate faulty programming work in their existing programs for free. They have, I guess, a docile and small customer base which does not demand this. They have discontinued all work on AfPalm and moved on to another upgrade--which will probably be just as buggy as all their other work. You need to purchase a new version of Act and subscribe to an on-line synchronization service, I believe. At this point, I am just waiting for MS to come up with a good translation program that will allow me to migrate away from Act entirely. I won't fall for the "upgrade" policy of Sage anymore! If you are really determined to stay with Act, you might want to get a sample of the new program and try it with a Pre. However, bear in mind a few things. When you install the new version of Act, you will no longer be able to read your existing database (a "clever" ploy by Sage to trap new users in the new version, despite the "money-back" guarantee). Also, I have noticed very often that newer versions of Act are unable to open backups of earlier versions. So ... beware!

  • Calendar Sync for Palm and encryption

We are converting our Calendar Server to always use encryption. We're not finding any way to specify the encryption in the Calendar Sync conduit. Did we miss it somewhere? If not, how do we force the Calendar Sync for Palm to use encryption?

  • 64 Bit Windows7/8/8.1 USB drivers for Palm Desktop

Thanks to the great folks over at Aceeca.com (makers of NEW PalmOS Garnet devices), USB drivers for 64bit Vista, Windows 7, and Win 8 operating systems are available.  There are many users reporting Palm Desktop 4.x is also working.
I have synced my TX to my Vista64 bit laptop, and Windows 8.1 HP Spectre X2 hybrid successfully via my USB cable.
    The drivers are located here:
    Aceeca Driver Downloads
Installation instructions (from Aceeca) for Windows 7 are included in the download.
    Basic instructions:
    1. Download the drivers and Extract them to the same folder.  Remember the folder you extracted them to.
    2. Try to HotSync your device.  It will fail.
    3. Open the Device Manager, and look for the Yellow Triangle next to either "Acceca" or "Palm Device" under "Other devices".
    4. Right-click on the device, and choose "Update Driver Software".
    5. Choose "Browse My Computer for Software" and direct it to the folder you extracted the Aceeca drivers to.
    6. Choose "Next" at the driver file location window, and then tell it to "Always trust software from Aceeca Ltd." then click the "Install" button.
    7. I received an error message (Vista64) that told me "The drivers were installed but the device couldn't be opened." I saw that my TX had timed out and went to sleep.  I tried a HotSync and it worked!!!
    Good luck!
NOTE:  Palm Desktop 6.22 may only show Media and Install.  Here's how to fix that:
If Palm Desktop 6.2.2 only shows Media and Install, try this:  Right-click on the shortcut for Palm Desktop, then choose "Run as Administrator".  The ther modules should appear.
To make Palm Desktop Run as Administrator every time in Windows 8/8.1:
Close Palm Desktop, if open.  (This is a very important thing to always do when using 6.2.2 - it has been known to lose data when a computer is shut down without closing the program!)
Right Click on the Palm Desktop Icon in the Metro screen, then choose "Open File Location".  You will now see the actual file for the shortcut.
Right-click on the "Palm Desktop" shortcut file, then Properties.  Now pick the Compatibility Tab at the top.
At the bottom of the Compatibility Tab is a checkbox:  "Run this Program as Administrator", Click OK .
Try opening Palm Desktop, all the parts should appear.  You may see a box open when you close the program asking "Did the program run correctly?"   I picked "Yes", and it's been working fine since then!
If you are using a much older PalmOS device and want to try using Palm Desktop 4.x, you will need this additional patch from Pimlico Software:

"After attempting your first HotSync and failing (as expected) you may be unable to find any trace of the device in Device Manager, making the next step quite difficult. This happened to me, and after some investigation I discovered the following tip that allows Device Manager to show hidden and non-present devices.
Open up Notepad and paste the following two lines into it:
    set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
    start devmgmt.msc
Save it as SetDev.bat into My Documents.
Open My Documents in Windows Explorer and double click on SetDev.bat. Device Manager should open.
In the View menu select Show Hidden Devices.
You may now see under the Other heading the failed device with a yellow triangle against it.
You can now proceed to install the drivers per the instructions.
Note that the driver supports most Palm OS versions. I'm actually using an Aceeca Meazura 1000 ruggedized PDA running OS 4.1  --- bobboffin"
    Hope this helps!

  • Adobe reader for palm issue

I want to be able to read eBooks on my
Palm Tungsten T5 running Palm OS Garnet v 5.4.5
Palm Desktop 4.2.1 on Mac G5 OS 10.3.9
    also using iSync 1.5
I've installed Adobe reader for Palm OS 3.05 on my Mac,
and it's installed fine on my Palm T5.
But, I've used the Adobe reader for Palm application on the Mac to add files to be transfered to the palm.
The application asks me to press the HotSync button, which I do. The Palm carrys out the HotSync,
but the pdf file is not transfered to the Palm.
    What could be going wrong?
I've read on a previous thread
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1404460&#1404460
that the problem might be caused by iSync,
and that I need to transfer the AcroConduit from Disabled Conduits to Conduits.
But there is no AcroConduit in either folder on my Mac...
Is there another reader I could use to read eBooks on my Palm?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

This should work without a hitch, but only if the AcroConduit is present in your active Conduits folder, here:
    Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:Palm HotSync
If you cannot find it on your machine, send a message to the address listed in my public profile, and I will reply with a copy of the AcroConduit which you can drag into your active Conduits folder.
You could also go here to once again download, then install, the Adobe Reader for Palm OS package:

I am not able to create access point which is necessary to access internet with java applications.
When I go Settings -> Configuration -> Personal config.sett. -> Add -> Access point (but also if I choose any other from list)
Then i go back and there is no new access point. In previous version of firmware it created access point.
Do anyone know about this issue ?
How can I tell to Nokia support that there is this bug ?
    thanx for replies

I went to local Nokia service, and they told me that probably it was wrongly flashed. So I reinstalled firmware two more time, but it always have the same problem. Is there someone with 6300 that have the newest firmware and can test this ?
    thank you
I will put this phone to service and see what they will do.

  • Isync conduit/adobe reader for palm issue

I just got a Tunsten E2 for Christmas. I'm somewhat new to this PDA world, so perhaps I'm missing something obvious. I installed the software, installed Adobe Reader for Palm OS and performed a HotSync. I then tried importing a PDF file to my handheld with no trouble. Then I saw via the Palm website that I could sync using isync via the isync conduit 1.2 from apple. So I downloaded that and followed the instructions to install it. Now my addresses and calendars sync flawlessly, but I can't seem to get Adobe Reader for Palm to transfer any more PDF files.
Has the isync conduit disabled a conduit for Adobe? Is there any way to fix this? Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thank you,
    J
P.S. I'm using Hotsync manager 3.2.1 and Palm Desktop 4.2.1

    Michael,
I've figured out what the problem is. When you install the isync conduit it removes any conduits that it feels it conflicts with. i.e. contacts, calendars, to do lists etc. It also, for some reason, removed the Adobe conduit named AcroConduit. I think this is a glitch in the isync conduit. Thankfully, the conflicting conduits that isync removes aren't deleted. They are simply put into a folder named "disabled conduits" located in the main "library" folder->"Application Support" -> "Palm HotSync", right next to the "Conduits" folder. So I just dragged the AcroConduit back to the "Conduits" folder and configured the conduit in HotSync Manager and, viola, all seems to be working fine... sort of.
It seems that Apple's Address Book and iCal don't exactly sync picture perfect on the palm pilot. email addresses where phone numbers should be, some addresses not showing up at all, calendars not showing up in the correct headings such as personal, business, etc. Apple and Palm could do better.
    J
