  • LightScribe SuperMulti DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support is no longer able to read all lightscribe discs(Blank or Containing Data)

    Hi,
The product Name of my computer is: HP Pavilion dv6-6093ex Entertainment
    Notebook PC support
The number of my computer is : LM610EA#A2N.
Could anyone please at this splendid forum take some of their precious time
out to really reply my questions and solve my problems?
    FIRST OF ALL:
My HP Pavilion Laptop is about 3 years old.
    My
sister's Dell Inspiron laptop is 3 years old.
My HP laptop is well-cared, as opposed to my sister's Inspiron Dell laptop, which is always thrown in dust without caring at all. Also, its battery is always inserted even when it is fully charged while the laptop is plugged in to the main power supply.
However, my laptop is either used on only battery, or on plugin. Also, it is kept from the dust. But, I really found that the battery of the Dell laptop still lasts about three and half hours, and there is no problem cooling fan is not properly properly.
I only remember one thing differently done on my laptop battery which is I charged it fully, then I stored it without using it for about four months, then when I reused it, I found it got worse over time. I.e. first time of using it after storing,I found
it empty, then I charged it again fully, however, then it lasted about 2 hours, then 1 and half hours, next an hour, now it is only lasting about 20 minutes without performance. If there is high performance, then
    the computer shuts down suddenly.
    My problem is follows:::
First: Whenever I inserted any Containing Data OR  Data CD/DVD-RLightScribe discs, I found that HP optical driver was
unable to read them. When clicking on the optical disc drive 'double-click' while disc was inserted, then I found that disc opened as this way(NOTE: With a CD/DVD player is grayed out)
I  was told 'I suspect the culprit might be hardware and lightscribe dive might be
corrupt. Please sent it to service center to check. In addition, this thread could be as a reference:

Since no one replied to me at HP forums, although my HP laptop is one of their products, I had to post my problem here to know if my driver is corrupted and needs to be replaced or not.

I cleaned the drive, discs, and so on.
I have uninstalled the all third-party data recording software.
I have uninstalled the Cyber DVD suite, lightscribe system software
which came pre-installed with my HP pavilion Notebook.
I have recovered my system from the HP Factory Recovery discs.
I have tried opening all those LightScibe discs not opening on my HP optical drive, on a Dell optical drive, and all of them were opened well, although Dell optical drive did not have a lightscribe feature at all., nor  third party disc recording software.
However, the problem is still with opening the discs LIGHT-SCRIBE.
    Thus, my questions are:
How to determine if the drive is corrupted and needs to be replaced with another one.
I think there something needed to be done on the BIOS Of my HP laptop[[[A similar problems happened on my Desktop computer's optical drive which is as follows (ALL discs are opened as empty by Optical Drive of My Desktop Computer) ---while
my optical drive of my desktop was connected to the
primary slave IDE, and the HDD was connected to the primary master IDE, the optical drive and hard disk are functioning well. However, I remember that while burning an image with Nero essential V: 5, something went wrong, and
then the Optical Drive of My Desktop Computer (HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NP20) became NOTrecognised/Installed on
BIOS, although it was still shown on the device manager as a recognised device. Also, it was listed on my computer, however, when entering a disc(blank or with data) into the drive, I found it was not recognised, and it opened empty(no files
at it), although it contains data. Thus, I decided to boot to BIOS, and clicked on 'Autodetection for IDE', then I found that only HDD was still shown as installed on BIOS.  However, the optical drive was not. Th I tried clicking on it on BIOS and then
clicking on 'enter' to try to let the device be re-recognized. However, that
made no difference. I had to take part my computer ,and then reconnected the optical drive onto thesecondary slave IDE , and let HDD connected to the same
primary master IDE. Then, I found that the problem solved and all discs were read normally. Aslo, optical drive became installed on BIOS.
What is meant with with double Layer Support.
    How much does it cost?

Could you please really concentrate with me, and really reply to me to finish this problem pending.
If you had had a look again at my first post, you would have seen that I said that I have done some things, among of which is: I have uninstalled the Cyber DVD suite, lightscribe system software
which came pre-installed with my HP pavilion Notebook.
Yes, you're right the two threads below are concerned about one issue.
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpromedia/thread/5c1aa5e8-9728-492b-a5c3-387f29ee4b6e/#d6f63628-29a3-4adf-b33f-03b33c138910

However, this thread contains more precise details and screen shots about the problem. I was not able to understand whether all lightscribs were not unable to be read or not. However, I now recognized that, and I recognized that only all LightScribe(empty
or used) discs are unable to be read. furthermore, that other thread got far too longer to be followed.
Moreover, I would like you to take some time out to answer my problem about Lighstscribe discs since I am going to purchase 'A battery, Cooling Fan' From the HP agent in Yemen, which is far away from me about 1000 Km. Thus, If my optical disc drive was corrupted
as well, then I would be requesting the 'optical disc  drive' as well from the HP along with 'Battery, Cooling Fan' .

  • Is there an external hard disc that will work with Mac OS10.4.11 and Windows Vista?

Is there an external hard disc that will work with both Mac (OS10.4.11) and Windows (Vista)?

For NTFS on Mac, there are both open-source and commercial solutions. See:
    http://www.macupdate.com/find/mac/NTFS
For HFS+ Drivers for Windows, there is only one:

  • HOW DO YOU MAKE A 2.5' USB PORTABLE HDD ACCESSIBLE TO A MAC BOOK AND A WINDOWS BASED LAPTOP SO ABLE TO READ AND WRITE TO BOTH.

    HO

The biggest diference is exFAT can handle files larger then 4GB in size.
FAT (as it is called on OS X but really FAT32) can only save files smaller then that 4GBs.
So if you don't need to save files bigger then 4GBs then you may want to use FAT32.
But if you do have files (Not folders, just files) bigger then 4GBs then you will need to use exFAT. But there is a caveat to using exFAT. Do Not use Mac OS X to format a drive exFAT, even though it is an option in Disk Utility. OS X screws up the exFAT format to the point No Windows PC will be able to read the drive. In fact when connecting a OS X formatted exFAT drive to a Win PC the Win PC will state the drive needs to initialized.
So always use a Win PC to format the drive to exFAT. It will then be seen by both Windows and Mac OS X.
There is another option and that is to use a program that can make either Windows or OS X read the others native format. But I do not suggest that as those program can, and do, screw up which could make the drive inaccessible to either system. Which would mean you would lose all the data on that drive.

  • STILL can't burn DVDs on Mac OS 10.6.5 after trying everything

    Hi there.
Ever since I've updated to 10.6.5, I can't burn DVDs, doesn't matter which brand or what software I use. however, I am able to burn CDs. I went to my local Apple Store and they booted OS 10.6.3 on my computer via firewire and what d'you know ? it burnt a dvd right away. this is clearly an issue with the latest update. I did as they said, reseted my PRAM and even re-installed the latest update (I downloaded the 10.6.5 combo version from Apple Support).
Is anyone experiencing the same ? I know a lot of people had the same issue couple of weeks ago. did anyone successfully overcome it ?
    cheers.

This is an older post from the Roxio Community (http://forums.support.roxio.com/topic/39824-toast-burns-cd-but-not-dvd-on-mac/); but seems like similar problem - maybe worth a try:
Either something is preventing the data from being sent to the drive's DVD-writing laser or the drive's laser is failing to start writing the disc. The only thing you can do with Toast is trash the plist and prefs files in the User>Library>Preferences folder and relaunch Toast. You might get a laser-cleaning disc for your drive. (A different laser is used to write CDs than is used to write DVDs). Also try choosing Save as Disc Image with Toast and burn the resulting disc image using the Image File setting in the Toast Copy window.
Note that the laser cleaning idea was also mentioned in the previous link provided. Have you tied that? - would be nice if a simple solution worked.

  • HT4539 i want to by an ebook in Greek for How to Use the MacOS Lion but i want to download it on a mac book pro 10.7.4 will i be able to read it????

i want to by an ebook in Greek  from iTunes explaning the use for the Lion, but iam not sure if ill be able to read it on my Mac book pro 10.7.4 can you help me with an answer?????

You would have to change the iTunes country in order to download the eBook in Greek, but there's a problem with that.
Your credit or debit card credentials must be associated with the same country where you reside.
"Although you can browse the iTunes Store in any country without being signed in, you can only purchase content from the iTunes Store for your own country. This is enforced via the billing address associated with your credit card or other payment method that you use with the iTunes Store, rather than your actual geographic location."
From here >  The Complete Guide to Using the iTunes Store | iLounge Article
Keep in mind, iBooks available from the iTunes store cannot be used on your Mac. Two different operating systems. iOS vs Mac OS X.

  • MAC OS X LEOPARD/Bootcamp/Windows Vista

    Hello all,
Just was wondering some things about the title up there. In Leopard, will we be able to install another OS like vista via bootcamp without the full version of it (in other words with an upgrade version)? Something else I'd like to ask is what about Vista Ultimate, will it be compatible with the iMac...what I mean is, I hear most computers now a days are not compatible with ultimate therefore you have to buy a new darn computer just to run it. So just wondering, but to your knowledge, is it compatible? Also, when exactly is Leopard due out? Thank you for your time.

    Thanks for the reply Hermano
"I'm not sure how anything less than a full version would work. An upgrade version relies on upgrading something that already exists. In the case of Windows, at least on a Mac, there isn't anything to upgrade"
Well, all they ask for in the upgrade process is proof of you having a lower version of windows, which I have. But with bootcamp, there is no way to get the install disc out of the drive to put in the other disc to prove that I am legal as far as the upgrade is concerned.
"If you need to have the top of the line version of Vista, then perhaps you need a top of the line PC on which to run it. Why are you playing with a Mac, if Windows is what you want?"
I got a mac because I was tired of all the crap I had put up with on a pc for the last 20+ years. But I had to be honest with myself and admit that there are just certain things that cannot be done with a mac but they can be done on a pc. I'm not going to spend any more money on any pc's. I would just like to be able to run windows vista on my mac. Because the iMac has the new intel core 2 duo in them, vista should work fairly well in it. I hear that that is the only thing stopping me from running it on this pc of mine. The pentiums are not x64 bit.

  • Mac OS X Software on Windows Vista

    Hey,
Im using Windows Vista and I wanted to know how to run OS X Software on my computer.
Im looking for allmost like "Bootcamp" but in reverse.
I also don't want to pay much for software, if it exists.
The reason I want this is because I just got a new iPhone and Allot of features of it requires you to have a Mac.
    Example:
I want to make ringtones for my Cellphone, It wont work because the songs from the Canadian iTunes store cannot be made into ringtones. The only other way is GarageBand which will not run on Vista.
I also want to be able to create my own Apps for iPhone and iPod Touch, Once again you need a Mac to use the iPhone SDK software.
If you could also find out how to do these things without using a mac then I dont need software to run mac on my computer.
    Thanks,
    MrCocaCola

I wanted to know how to run OS X Software on my computer.
You can't, so don't even try. OS X and software written for it only runs on Apple hardware
I want to make ringtones for my Cellphone,
You don't need a Mac to make ringtones. Any sound file can be converted into the correct format.

  • Burning DVD - PC/Mac Compatibility Problem

I purchased my Mac Pro at the beginning of this year. I used the DVD burner for the first time a couple weeks ago. I am a photographer and burned 317 images on a Memorex DVD-R for a client. I tested it on my computer and it seemed to work fine. When she received it, she could only open 87 images. It didn't show any other files on the disk. I burned a couple other DVDs and the same thing happens. Each time there are a different number of image files that show up when it's opened on a PC (from 75-87) but it looks fine on my computer. I don't know what's causing the problem. Help!!

  • Internal/external "superdrive" to burn DVDs/Need Mac hardware dictionary!!!

Though I have been a Mac user since I started using computers, I would consider myself a "newbie" as far as using the various packages available on OSX 10.3.9 Panther, specifically iPhoto and idvd as well as issues regarding upgrading and expanding my current computer.
Anyway, my main question is this...I was doing a project in imovie and wanted to burn it to a DVD only to discover a little too late that my computer, in fact, had NO INTERNAL SUPERDRIVE! I just assumed my computer had the capability but found out is was only CD-RW/DVD-ROM.
Well, this lead to a lot of research on my part trying to figure out how to get a superdrive. It seems like the best (easiest?) option is to get an external DVD burner...but I don't know which is the best one, if I would need firewire cables or "USB" (if that is even correct) to hook it up and even if a "superdrive" is the same thing as a hard drive!
Also, I have tried to follow the threads on this site about various apple topics and discussions and am having a tough time deciphering much of the "lingo". Dual Layer Disc? DVD+R vs. DVD-R and what drive and/or media works with what?? ATA? SATA PCI? RAID? RAPTOR? Is there a dictionary for all this?
I really want to learn and finish this slideshow project I have started using iphoto 4.0.3 and imovie 4.0.1 but am at a confusing brick wall. ANY and ALL help is greatly appreciated.
Sorry to post such a long message, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. : (
Power Mac G4 1.25 GHz (Dual) [Mirrored Drive Door]   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Current computer drive is dual CD-RW/DVD-ROM and NO SUPERDRIVE!!!

Like the previous poster I'd be tempted to get an internal DVD burner.
It's almost certainly the cheapest solution, as you can just buy the bare drive and aren't paying for an external case, cables, bundled software (which tends to be Windows only) etc, none of which you actually need.
It's almost certainly the most compatible solution as well, in terms of being able to burn CDs and DVDs from the Finder and iApps such as iTunes and iDVD.
You could either replace your existing CD-RW/DVD-ROM or add it as a second drive. Instructions for replacing the optical drive (CD/DVD) can be found here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=26259
Removing the old drive is just a case of undoing a few screws and unplugging two cables. Installation of the new drive is simply the reverse process. The only thing to check is that the jumpers are set correctly on the back of the new drive. This just involves moving a small jumper 'block' to the appropriate pair of pins.
The Pioneer DVR-110D would be a popular choice as it supports both competing formats (DVD-RW and DVD+RW) and also dual layer discs. The only slight complication is that being new on the market, I don't believe it's fully supported by OS X 10.4 yet (although this could change with 10.4.4).
However, if you're using 10.3 (or 10.4) you can use PatchBurn:

  • DVD Player rejects clean burned DVD on Mac Pro, G5 and G4

I have a disc from a colleague, standard NTSC which displays the following once the menu screen appears (and hangs afterwards immediately):
"DVD Player encountered an error it could not recover from. There was an error reading from disc. It might be scratched or dirty. [-36]"
Has anyone else encountered this with clean media? Thanks.

    HI Ken,
    Repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Data DVD from Mac shows up blank in Windows!

    Hi,
burned a couple of DVDs now from the Mac desktop with various files on them. On my PC the DVD spins up but Windows shows the disk as being empty. Any thoughts on what is happening here?

So put the affected discs back in your Mac.. let them mount.. then get info on the disc from Finder. What filesystem was it burned with. You should also be able to do this in Disk Utility.
If it says HFS or HFS+ then it will not mount in Windows.
Fat32 or UDF (preferred) is required for Windows.
Try burning the data disc from Disk Utility with the correct format ISO-9660 or DVD-UDF.

I tried running the below command line to fix potential disk issue 'Chkdsk/r /f'
I cleaned the drive, discs, and so on.
I have uninstalled the all third-party data recording software.
I have uninstalled the Cyber DVD suite, lightscribe system software which
came pre-installed with my HP pavilion Notebook.
I have recovered my system from the HP Factory Recovery discs.
I have tried opening all those LightScibe discs not opening on my HP optical
drive, on a Dell optical drive, and all of them were opened well, although Dell
optical drive did not have a lightscribe feature at all., nor third party disc
    recording software
However, the problem is still with opening the discs LIGHT-SCRIBE
    Thus, my questions are:
How to determine if the drive is corrupted and needs to be replaced with
    another one.
I think there something needed to be done on the BIOS Of my HP laptop[[[A similar problems happened on my Desktop computer's optical drive which is as follows (ALL discs are opened as empty by Optical Drive of My Desktop Computer) ---while my optical drive of my desktop was connected to the primary slave IDE, and the HDD was connected to the primary master IDE, the optical drive and hard disk are functioning well. However, I remember that while burning an image with Nero essential V: 5, something went wrong, and then the Optical Drive of My Desktop Computer (HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NP20) became NOT recognised/Installed on BIOS, although it was still shown on the device manager as a recognised device. Also, it was listed on my computer, however, when entering a disc(blank or with data) into the drive, I found it was not recognised, and it opened empty(no files at it), although it contains data. Thus, I decided to boot to BIOS, and clicked on 'Autodetection for IDE', then I found that only HDD was still shown as installed on BIOS. However, the optical drive was not. Th I tried clicking on it on BIOS and then clicking on 'enter' to try to let the device be re-recognized. However, that made no difference. I had to take part my computer ,and then reconnected the optical drive onto the secondary slave IDE , and let HDD connected to the same primary master IDE. Then, I found that the problem solved and all discs were read normally. Aslo, optical drive became installed on BIOS
What is meant with with double Layer Support.
    How much does it cost?

I understand that you are having an issue with your battery and the lightscribe drive. You would also like to know about DL(Dual Layer) support.
Here is a link to  Troubleshooting the notebook battery to assist with the battery concern.
You asked what dual layer support is , here is a definition from webopedia for the explanation.
    What is dual layer support
As you stated in your post your system supports  reading
The DL refers to dual layer, it does not list a CD DL.  What type of disk are you using?
From your post I noticed it does read the title of the disk but is unable to read the file.
Did you use any form of compression software  when writing the files?
Would you try inserting a  supported blank disk and writing to it.  If you can do this and read the disk after your drive is functioning.
The only other way to check would be to remove and reinstall it  into another computer to test if it works there.
Yes there is a bios update listed on the driver page for your notebook.

Updating the bios does have a potential to cause damage, for this reason I suggest contacting HP support for assistance.

    Thanks a lot,
I wish that Paul_Tikkanen could have participated in solving this issue since I know he has insight in such problems.
Could you please be a little bit patient with me and go through all my points below and answer me::
IF you had  had a close look at my screen shots before, you would have seeing I have classified the disc haveing and not having the problem  into three categories each of which has its screen shots under it.
Blank Or Used(containg data) CD/ DVD ±R/RW lightscirbe is unable to be  read by optical drive
Not Blank(containing data) CD/ DVD ±R/RW NON -Lightscirbe disc opens normal
    Blank CD/ DVD ±R/RW NON-lightscirbe opens normal(Opens like a USB FlashDrive or With a CD,DVD)::
First The kind of discs I have been used to using, and seeing in the market are only:
    CD-R, C-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW.
    However, I never ever used or saw 'CD-ROM, DVD-RAM, DVD-ROM CD-R DL, CD+R DL, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, CD-RW DL, CD+RW DL, DVD-RW DL, DVD+RW DL.
Thus, Could you please be a little more detailed about each of the above disc types?
Second: I don't know if I can see 'DVD+R DL' written on the cover of DVD like what I am accustomed to see 'DVD-R'?
Third: What difference is there between 'DVD-RW', and 'DVD-RW DL', and 'DVD-R' and 'DVD-R DL'?

NOTE, those discs are for HP Factory Recovery Discs.I have created those Discs via HP Recovery Manager.  After creating them, I have labelled them with lightscribe software. ALL LightScribe are not read well and are unknown. Thus, my answer for your question is No, I don't use compression software unless if the program 'HP Recovery Manager' used a compression built-in tool while creating those discs'
Moreover, I have even restored my laptop from the HP factory Recovery discs which means everything must have been OK

Have you seen my screen shots well?
The key of my problem as to unable to reading LightScribe is the answer of this question of mine: Why do I see 'RAW' or 'unknown' as a file system for disc inserted whenever I insert a ligthSribe disc into drive?
All Blank Or containing data CD/ DVD ±R/RW lightscirbe are unable to be  read by optical drive. When clicking on drive 'duble-click', I found it opens  like a USB FlashDrive or With a CD,DVD player, however, 'with CD/DVD Player' is grayed out) When I chose 'like a USB FlashDrive, I found there was no disc inserted, although it was.
If you mean other discs not LightScribe, then I would be saying YES. And they all worked well, except the lightscribe(Blank, or containing data) were not read well at all.(all are unknown).

You mean I need to remove the optical drive and install on another laptop brand. If so, It would be compatible with any laptop brand?
NOTE: the reason around this problem is not lightscribe discs(I think) since any optical drive without having a lightscribe feature can read lightscribe discs. For instance the Dell laptop(Windows 7) could read all lightscribe disc or non lightscribe discs, even although it doesn't have any lightscribe feature, nor a disc recording software, except the Windows built-in default  tools. Dell optical drive, although not having a lightscribe feature, read all discs no matter the disc type is. Thus, In my HP optical drive having a lightscribe feature, I have decided to get rid of (lightscribe feature by removing the lightscribe system software, and all Cyber DVD-Suite). However, the problem is still with reading lightscribe discs.

    Updating the BIOS
First:: I have updated my BIOS from F.05 into F.1B by using HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) (sp55068) F.1B hoping to get rid of this problem, but that made no difference at all.
    NOTE
Other suggested that I insert an empty rewritable CD and try running the following command: format e: /fs:UDF
I did, but it didn't help.
Other suggested to download the latest version LightSribe system software, but I would be saying how to do that as long as HP would be phasing out HP LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling technology. HP will gradually transition products to comparable optical disc drives without LightScribe technology.
Second:: I've also been searching in HP forums, but always they said nonsense comments which I don't put up with. Take this one for example,
I'd be happy to do all I can to help with your lightscribe. Please note:Beginning May 2011 and throughout the year, HP will be phasing out HP LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling technology. HP will gradually transition products to comparable optical disc drives without LightScribe technology. While this transition may affect other HP products, this document is specific to HP notebooks.- Source

NOTE:Hewlett-Packard's LightScribe website is no longer active. LightScribe software and disc utilities
may be found on a number of public websites. Search the Internet for LightScribeto find these pages.
This blurb and much more information can be found in the following document; Creating Disc Labels with LightScribe
    The compelet discussion is here.
Finally I would be saying that LightScribe website is no longer available(discontinued). As HP said. IF HP customer care couldn't help their customers, I think it would be better to completely discontinue selling HP products.

  • I'm working on a MAC and my LR4 is no longer able to read images off my memory cards.

I've never had a problem before, this just started yesterday. I tried importing images off my SanDisk and my LR4 was unable to read the images. On the same Mac, I was able to import the same images into iPhoto. I tried taking pictures using another card and came across the same problem when trying to import. I was told from a professional photographer friend that this is a very shady way of getting one to upgrade. Please tell me that's not true.

When deleting the preferences file do I delete all the files? Specifically, I see:
    com.adobe.Lightroom4.plist
    com.adobe.Lightroom4.LSSharedFileList.plist.lockfile
    com.adobe.Lightroom4.plist.lockfile
    com.adobe.Lightroom4.LSSharedFileList.plist
Sorry for sounding like an idiot. This is all new to me, but I (think) I'm happy for the experience!
I tried initially to just delete the com.adobe.Lightroom4.plist and I'm still having difficulty importing. I'm working with 4.4.
