Burner drive Error

I have two burners in my mac pro. my top burner has started giving me errors... if I use iDVD it doesnt see the burner when I go to burn a dvd. DVD Studio pro works on it sometimes and burns fine. Toast gives me the error that it is a unstabe connection. I still you it to read from just fine. Everything has worked before so how can I fix this thing?

I also have identified a burner error caused by 10.5.7.
After upgrading, my DVD burner's cache size is repeatedly being scrambled after a couple successful burns, rendering the drive unable to successfully burn again until I reboot. This repeatedly happens when booted from my 10.5.7 partition, but never ever happens under 10.5.6 (or earlier).
see my post:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013029&stqc=true
To further explain:
I have a MDD G4 (dual 867Mhz) with 1GB RAM and a Radeon 9800 Pro video card. I have four internal hard drives (1.25TB total) and two internal DL DVD burners (a Pioneer DVR-115 and a Toshiba Lightscribe SH-S202N). The Toshiba device is my primary burner, and I use Toast (either 9.0.5 or 10.0.2) to burn DVDs on a very regular basis. After uploading to 10.5.7, an annoying problem keeps re-occurring. After successfully burning 1-2 DVDs, Toast stops recognizing that the Toshiba DVD burner exists. And will not recognize the drive as a writable device until I shut down and reboot. Disk Utility 11.1 continues to see the drive, but I have not attempted to burn with it. Even though Toast (either version) refuses to recognize that device anymore, nevertheless CDs & DVDs inserted in it will still mount on the desktop and can be accessed normally. I can still burn discs with my Pioneer drive when this problem is in effect, but the failure rate increases to about 50% regardless of the media type. So it appears to be affecting my second burner, but in a more limited way.
When I boot off my 10.5.6 or 10.4.11 partitions, this problem never happens, and both bruners perform flawlessly. But it repeatedly happens when booted into 10.5.7 after I sucessfully burn 1 or 2 DVDs. Also, I notice that after the problem occurs, in System Profiler 10.5.7, it lists that the "Cache" (size) of my Toshiba burner as 65536K (whereas, before the problem is in effect the same drive reports a cache size of 2048K--the true size). All the other device info remains correct. So I suspect that there is some bug in 10.5.7 that causes the ATAPI driver to modify the reported cache size for the device, which freaks Toast out so much that it simply ignores that the drive exists anymore. Restarting the Mac doesn't reliably "reset" the drive back to normal, but shutting down--waiting for 10 seconds--and restarting always works in resetting the situation.
I originally updated to 10.5.7 using System Update, but then re-upgraded using the 10.5.7 Combo Updater, but that had no effect on the problem.
I have not encountered any other problems with 10.5.7, but I cannot use 10.5.7 unless this problem is solved by Apple.

I HAVE HAD THE EXACT PROBLEM BURNING DVD'S, on and off for over a year now. It doesn't appear to be a "media" issue because it won't burn in ANY application regardless if it is a DV Stream, MPEG4, Quicktime, etc. I have tried it in TOAST 7, iDVD and I get this message:
THE DRIVE REPORTED AN ERROR SENSE KEY=MEDIUM ERROR SENSE CODE= 0x73,0x03
In all cases the application will "process" and encode the media, then when it gets to the recording part on the DVD, it consistently spits out the DVD and displays the message above.
NOT SURE what I can do. Have worked 10 years as an editor from AVID to Final Cut and this error seems to be inherent in the hardware. Maybe Apple can investigate this and provide us with an alternate writer for the G4.

  • Drive error at end of Burn

I keep getting an error that reads
    drive error
    sense key=illigal request
    sense code = 0x30, 0x05

After many burns I get this error, when there is only one second left on the burn. Then I check the disk and it can still play but at the very end it freezes. HELP, I can't get my work done and I do this for a living. It even happened when I burned at 1x.
    Thanks, Pamela

What is it exactly you are having trouble with. by that what are you trying to burn. Audio, Video, Files,
What are you trying to use for Software..iTunes..
    Disk Utility, Toast, etc.
Are you choosing the content from the pop-up or are you dragging and dropping.
Have you changed the Raw Media you are using?
What media are you using, Brand and Format.
If you do a lot of burning have you trashed the files and content after the burn and have you emptyied the cache files and shut your computer clear off afterwards, waited for a time and then restarted and tried again, This will work sometimes.
I have found that after doing a lot of burning, it is nessecary to use 3 free utilities to clean everything up to be able to go again without causing error messages.

That's why you want to make a backup of the registry. If you didn't make a backup, use MS system restore to go back. The only values you should remove are UpperFilter or LowerFilter - one or both may be in there and can be removed. If neither value exists, then that is probably why you can't burn and Windows is not recognizing your drive as a writable drive.

Many of us have posted and experimented and tried everything mentioned here all to no avail in regards to the 2122 error code. And don't let anyone tell you it's YOUR problem--it's not the AOpen drive that's bad-it's that iTunes is NOT working with or doesn't recognize the AOpen burners.... I've gotten a few replies from Apple people and they even say the same thing....
personally I think it's really SAD AND STUPID that this big company can come up with all sorts of new products, pods, nanos etc and yet can't come back and fix the programs for the people that already bought their original products!!!!
HOW HARD can it be to fix a little thing like this??? I don't honestly know -I am not a programmer--but if this many people have complained, wouldn't it be nice if someone would just ADRESS THE PROBLEM??? And then so many of us wouldn't be sitting here fuming, hoping each time they come out with a new upgrade that MAYBE this time it'll work---rather than to be disappointed over and over again and see the same fricking 2122 error....Don't you think fixing something first would be nice instead of just making more newer faster smaller things??

  • IMovieHD, "No disc burning drive found" and "The movie could not be sent.."

First post in these subject forums. I am posting the same problem in iDVD and iMovieHD which were from iLife'05, but I won't post there.
I loaded iLife'05 and also managed to get iDVD5 loaded although the packaging indicated that I needed to have a 733mhz G4 or faster processor and I have a Prismo Powerbook, 500 mhz and it was successful or maybe not.
Then I opened iDVD, I got this Error message..."The application iDVD could not be opened because the required hardware could not be found"...which makes sense as I have an external Lacie (CD-R,-RW, DVD-R,-RAM,-RW,R,+RW,R DL) burner that I bought about a year ago that my wife also uses on her G4 tower.......... and I did not have it connected. So I connected it and when I opened iDVD again and it still reads: "The application iDVD could not be opened because the required hardware could not be found." Shut down and reboot, no difference.
This probably does not have any bearing on the issue but in the System Profiler for "Disk Burning" there is a parameter "Burn Support" which is "Yes (Unsupported)", should this be "Yes (supported)"?
Question #1: Does iDVD5 only work with an Apple "superdrive" or does it work with other third party "DVD burners" ?
So I used iMovieHD from iLife'05 to create a project of an old family vacation (from an old 8mm Sony Handycam) and wanted to create a DVD, for archive reasons and to view on TV with a DVD player, but I could not do anything because of different errors now in iMovieHD.
File > Share...(a window opens and I choose iDVD and then click the "share" button) and this error comes up:
The movie could not be sent to iDVD, because of an unknown error.
"Please make sure that iDVD is properly installed, that your project disk has write permission, and that you have enough disk space. (Error 0)"
Next I tried: File > Burn Project to Disc......and this error comes up.
    No Disc Burning Drive Found
"If you have an apple-supported disc burner, please check your connections and try again."
The project file is 5.89GB and I have 57.97GB free on the hard drive so I don't think that space on the hard drive is an issue.
Question #2: Is the issue of not being able to create a DVD from iMovieHD related to the iDVD issue although the error messages in iMovieHD and iDVD are different?
Question #3: How are Video DVD's from the Hollywood Studios able to make DVD's longer than 2 hours?
Thanks all for your help in advance. John

One more addition to this post, I opened DVD Player and got this error "There was an initialization error. A valid DVD drive could not be found (-70012)
Maybe this will help give someone a clue.

  • Burning cd, error 4000

I get really tired of iTunes! When I try to burn a cd I get very often the error code 4000. Sometimes it's possible to burn a cd but more often it fails. Please help me with a solution.

I have the same issue with error code 4000. I have been using iTunes for about a year now and have occasionally had this problem. Now when I try to burn this is all that happens and that is the error popping up while the disc is being ejected. I bought some Maxell CD-R’s in bulk about six months ago and other than the occasional error, they have worked fine. I was still managing to burn discs after I upgraded to version 7.0.2; however, now I am left with this error code even after trying to use different discs. When this error message appeared, I checked the option to force the optical power calibration before burning yet this has had no effect. Still while looking at the DVD/CD diagnostics the report states that I still need to turn this option on. I have not even been able to find this option anywhere under the preferences menu. I attempted to update the ATA IDE bus drivers but I have the current updates according to the manufacturer.
After researching on the internet and reading through these forums, I have now concluded that this is a problem with iTunes and if Apple does not solve this problem, I am going to take my business elsewhere. I do not want to buy a Mac because I enjoy using my PC and having the freedom to buy hardware and software from various manufacturers and if Apple cannot keep the millions of PC users happy with iTunes and Ipod then I guess they do not want our money either.

  • Cannot burn cd- error 2112; is there a solution yet?

After upgrading to itunes v6, I am no longer able to burn a cd (recieve error message 2112.) I have read on these discussions of other having the same problem, but never found the solution. Is there one yet?
I have had my ipod mini since May 2005 and in early January
upgraded to itunes v6 and since that download I have not been able to burn an audio cd. Prior to downloading itunes 6.0 I was always successful in burning cds using itunes.
Now, when trying to burn a CD, the error message reads "unknown error occurred 2122" I read through all of
the available information on the itunes website regarding troublshooting a cd burn problem. Following a suggestion to check for updates on my DVD Rewriter's website, I did just that. I am using an AOPEN DWWW 1616/ARR, Rev 1000 DVD Rewriter. On AOPEN's website, to my surprise, my question regarding CD burning problems with itunes 6.0 was one of their top FAQ's!! Here's the bad part---their response to
this problem is "We're sorry, currently itune v6 doesn't support the DVD Rewriter 1616." Apple support told me over the phone that I needed to download the most recent version of iTunes (apparently another upgrade had come out in the past 2 weeks) and that this would solve the problem. So, I downloaded itunes 6.0.2.23 and the problem still exists! Has anyone else experienced this or can help me burn CD's again! This stinks...........

My desktop computer burns from iTunes perfect in version 4.7.0.42 and 5.0.1.4. When I go to 6.x I can't do anything. Go to oldapps.com if you want an older version.
I CAN BURN on my laptop with new version. It is a toshiba sat M45-S331 with a matshita dvd-ram drive.
    My PC is a dell with a teac dvd+rw dv-w58e, rev D.0n
Did find something sad and while I don't know much about computer programming here is my take. I think it has nothing to do with the drive, my drive works perfect and as evidence being able to burn in older generation iTunes.
I think in the new version, at least as far as I can tell, my bus address in my laptop for my cd drive is [0,0] but on my desktop the bus address is [1,0] for my burn drive.
I think some programmer at Apple took out ability to recognize two seperate bus addresses or to recognize address [1,0]
Opinions? I'm going to research how to change bus address on my drives and if can figure out will get back here. Or if someone else can, please replay to me by e-mail. You can send it to the following removing upper case letters:
    [email protected]
    Thanks and good luck

The 2131 is usually associated with older versions of the firmware for the TS-L632H, josh.
The TMC0 is a firmware revision I haven't seen before ... presumably it's an Advent-supplied version. Check in with Advent (or Dixon's?) technical support to see if they have a later version available. If you update to the higher firmware version, does that get you past the 2131?
