Cacao service in maintenance after vda-config

Hello all,
I installed Sun VDI 3.1 on a x4150 Solaris 10 10/09 box, but when I run vda-config, choosing option 3: Single Sun VDI Host, I get this:
System Configuration
+ Restarting Common Agent Container service...
Error when trying to start SMF service: [svc:/application/management/common-agent-container-1:default].
Please check the SMF log file for more information: [var/svc/log/application-management-common-agent-container-1:default.log].
The configuration of Sun VDI 3.1 has completed.
This server is configured as a Single Sun VDI Host.

[ Jan 18 07:40:49 Method "start" exited with status 1 ]
The cacao service runs just fine prior to vda-config.
How can I get this to work?
Thanks.

I figured out why cacao won't start after the config. vda-config does this:
cacaoadm set-param java-flags=-Xms4M -Xmx256M -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote -Dfile.encoding=utf-8
This is what prevents cacao from starting again. But why? What should it be? Any ideas?
Thanks.

    Many thanks hubery.
I had mutiple svc network service errors or warnings when re-booting a Solaris 10 x86 10/09 u8 after adding the box to MS Active Directory using adjoin.sh as per the paper written by Wajih Ahmed and Baban Kenre (Thanks for the notes guys by the way, mines working against 2003 with no service pack after installing SFU(Services For Unix)).
I'd also installed the Dec. 09 patch bundle to no avail. Thank goodness we don't get those meaningless patch errors now, just 'skipped' or 'success'.
The nsswitch.conf file looked like this.
    networks: ldap [NOTFOUND=return] files
    protocols: ldap [NOTFOUND=return] files
    rpc: ldap [NOTFOUND=return] files
    ethers: ldap [NOTFOUND=return] files
    netmasks: ldap [NOTFOUND=return] files
    bootparams: ldap [NOTFOUND=return] files
    publickey: ldap [NOTFOUND=return] files
After removing the [NOTFOUND=return] section on each line the warnings no longer appear on boot, yay.
Here's the complete working nsswitch.conf file:

    Thanks - J.

Run 'svcs -xv' to see what is failing.
Then check the logs in /var/svc/log for those ones to see why they are failing.
The messages seen point to a problem with the network/rpc/bind service so make sure that it is running fine.
If it is failing try running it manually as '/usr/sbin/rpcbind -d' to see what is happening
The most likely cause is a problem with name services (such as a problem finding the right groups or service entries from /etc/services)

  • FIM Sync service keeps restarting after being disabled

Hi - We are deploying the SharePoint User Profile Store connector and I have followed all the steps here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn511003(v=ws.10).aspx
However the FIM Sync service keeps enabling and restarting itself - can't see anything in the event logs except a Evt ID: 2001 - Service was started successfully
What is starting this service? How can I stop so that it remains in the disabled state?
    Thanks
    J

    Hi,
Based on your description, my understanding is that you want to disable the FIM Sync service, but FIM Sync service keeps restarting after being disabled.
I suggest you start the FIM Sync service again and stop it, then disable it.
You shouldn't need to start those services manually - SharePoint will do everything itself when you start the User Profile Sync service in Central Administration.
Restarted the User Profile Synchronization Service in Central Administration.(Central Administration -> System Settings -> Manage services on server -> User Profile Synchronization Service.)
Stop the FIM Sync service and then disable it.

  • Is server or service reboot required after editing registry in 13568 event

Is server or service reboot required after editing registry in 13568 event .

Hi Below is the event log guiding me to edit registry in order to resolve replication issue, In this case i cant restart the server or even service.I just want to know will this registry edit take effect with out reboot server or service.
    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: NtFrs
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 13568
    Description:
The File Replication Service has detected that the replica set "DOMAIN SYSTEM VOLUME (SYSVOL SHARE)" is in JRNL_WRAP_ERROR.
Replica set name is    : "DOMAIN SYSTEM VOLUME (SYSVOL SHARE)"
Replica root path is   : "c:\windows\sysvol\domain"
Replica root volume is : "\\.\C:"
A Replica set hits JRNL_WRAP_ERROR when the record that it is trying to read from the NTFS USN journal is not found.  This can occur because of one of the following reasons.
[1] Volume "\\.\C:" has been formatted.
[2] The NTFS USN journal on volume "\\.\C:" has been deleted.
[3] The NTFS USN journal on volume "\\.\C:" has been truncated. Chkdsk can truncate the journal if it finds corrupt entries at the end of the journal.
[4] File Replication Service was not running on this computer for a long time.
[5] File Replication Service could not keep up with the rate of Disk IO activity on "\\.\C:".
Setting the "Enable Journal Wrap Automatic Restore" registry parameter to 1 will cause the following recovery steps to be taken to automatically recover from this error state.
[1] At the first poll, which will occur in 5 minutes, this computer will be deleted from the replica set. If you do not want to wait 5 minutes, then run "net stop ntfrs" followed by "net start ntfrs" to restart the File Replication Service.
[2] At the poll following the deletion this computer will be re-added to the replica set. The re-addition will trigger a full tree sync for the replica set.
WARNING: During the recovery process data in the replica tree may be unavailable. You should reset the registry parameter described above to 0 to prevent automatic recovery from making the data unexpectedly unavailable if this error condition occurs again.
To change this registry parameter, run regedit.
Click on Start, Run and type regedit.
    Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
    Click down the key path:
       "System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NtFrs\Parameters"
Double click on the value name
       "Enable Journal Wrap Automatic Restore"
    and update the value.
If the value name is not present you may add it with the New->DWORD Value function under the Edit Menu item. Type the value name exactly as shown above.

  • Service suspended itself after iOS7 update!

Service on my iPhone 5 suspended itself after I updated to iOS7. I had to manually re activate service a few minutes ago by logging on to Verizon Wireless's website. After reactivating service, a new window containing two pieces of news opened: one, I was congratulated for reactivating service, and two, I also was advised that the existing contract would be extended for an amount of time identical to the unsolicited suspension of service.
How is this my problem? Why am I being penalized for a situation completely beyond my control? Verizon Wireless really grows into you, doesn't it?

This is the response from a Verizon Customer Service Representative, when I requested their assistance restoring service. Please pay particular attention to text in bold:
"I do see that when the device attempted it's reinitiation with the network the evening of 10/8 (which I assume is the evening you completed the update) it recognized a previous insurance claim from June where Asurion had reported the phone as lost/stolen. It appears you may have found the device and contacted them to reverse the claim, but the system still recognized the information being reported as stolen from Asurion".
"When a software update through Apple is completed, it triggers the phone to reactivate it's wireless connections. This triggered the line to suspend when a new activation was attempted as a system security measure".
"This is how the system is designed to keep your information safe and avoid someone being able to activate your lost/stolen phone onto their account. I'm sorry that it ended up causing so much frustration for you. I assure you that your account is safe and it wasn't due to anyone accessing your account unauthorized".
"I do hope this helps to clarify what occured with your iPhone during the upgrade. I've confirmed that your Device ID and SIM have both been removed from our lost/stolen database for good, so you can complete future updates with ease and avoid this situation again in the future."
As I said, service suspended itself after the iOS7 update.

  • User profile synchronization service wont start after SharePoint Service pack SP2

    Hi
-Using SharePoint 2010 with 1 appserver and 2 frontend webservers on Service Pack2. (ms server 2008r2, SQLServer2008r2).
-Farmaccount has been set to local admin on all sp servers.
-Firstly, the User Profile Service Application runs fine and is started. Dont mix it with the User profile synchronization Service.
Prior to installing SP2 User profile service application and user profile synchronization service were running fine.
The first thing I did after the installation of SP2 was running the:
-psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait
    As SharePoint setup user (spadmin).
This ran fine on the 2 front end web servers.
However i got one fault on the Appserver:
    I have also tried:
PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures
which led to same resulting error.
So I tried to start the Use profile synchronization service as suggested manually by logging on with the Farmaccount, starting the user profile synchronization service through Central Administration. This led to Stuck on Starting status.
The windows services Forefront had status starting, then stopped.
    One question:
Prior to starting the User profile synchronization service through Central Administration. What account and startup status should the 2 Forefront Windows Services have? (Automatic and local system?) or (Automatic and Farmaccount?) or (Disabled and Local
system?) or (Disabled and farmaccount?). Because i know that SharePoint UPA will provision these services though Central Administration. However what is the default state prior to starting the Synchronization service?
    So i continue...
Since it was stuck on starting i stopped it with:
    stop-SPServiceInstance -identity <upaSyncguid>
    which gave me:
Stop-SPServiceInstance : An object of the type Microsoft.SharePoint.Administrat
    ion.SPServiceInstanceJobDefinition named "job-service-instance-36bdf2ef-58f2-45
e5-8f78-ab75f646611a" already exists under the parent Microsoft.SharePoint.Admi
nistration.SPTimerService named "SPTimerV4". Rename your object or delete the
    and i could fix with:
    #Stop the stopping:
stsadm -o provisionservice -action stop -servicetype "Microsoft.Office.Server.Administration.ProfileSynchronizationService, Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles,
    Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" -servicename FIMSynchronizationService
I also removed the forefront certificate from personal - certificate store, as this is provisioned when user profile synchronization service is provisioned.
That set the Central Administration Status on the User profile synchronization Service to disabled. Fine.
Everytime i tried to start the user profile synchronization service (logged on as farmaccount), left it for 10-15 min and did iisreset and restart sharepoint timer service, and also tried rebooting the appserver. No change.
A thought, is it important to restart timer service and do iisreset on the two frontend servers after trying to start the user profile synchronization service on the appserver?
I'm getting to the point were i just want to delete the whole service application and set it up anew...
any tips will be greatly appreaciated.

You're very welcome, hope it helped, if not the I suggest you clear the configuration cache as follows.
The config cache is where config settings are stored locally on the Microsoft SharePoint server, so a SQL call isn’t required.
    To clear the cache:
Stop the SP Timer service. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click
    Services.
Right-click SharePoint 2010 Timer, and then click Stop.
    Close the Services console.
On the computer that is running Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 and on which the Central Administration site is hosted, click
Start, click Run, type explorer, and then press ENTER.
In Windows Explorer, locate and then double-click the following folder:
    %SystemDrive%\ProgramData\Microsoft\SharePoint\Config\GUID
    Notes
The %SystemDrive% system variable specifies the letter of the drive on which Windows is installed. By default, Windows is installed on drive C.
The GUID placeholder specifies the GUID folder. There may be more than one of these.
The ProgramData folder may be hidden. To view the hidden folder, follow these steps:
On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    Click the View tab.
In the Advanced settings list, click Show hidden files and folders under
Hidden files and folders, and then click OK.
You can also simply type this directly in the path if you do not want to show hidden files and folders.
Back up the Cache.ini file. (Make a copy of it. DO NOT DELETE THIS FILE, Only the XML files in the next step)
Delete all the XML configuration files in the GUID folder (DO NOTE DELETE THE FOLDER). Do this so that you can verify that the GUID folders content is replaced by new XML configuration files when the cache is rebuilt.
Note When you empty the configuration cache in the GUID folder, make sure that you
do NOT delete the GUID folder and the Cache.ini file that is located in the GUID folder.
    Double-click the Cache.ini file.
On the Edit menu, click Select All.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
Type 1, and then click Save on the
File menu. (Basically when you are done, the only text in the config.ini file should be the number 1)
On the File menu, click Exit.
Start the Timer service. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click
    Services.
Right-click SharePoint 2010 Timer, and then click Start.
    Close the Services console.
Note The file system cache is re-created after you perform this procedure. Make sure that you perform this procedure on all servers in the server farm.
Make sure that the Cache.ini file in the GUID folder now contains its previous value. For example, make sure that the value of the Cache.ini file is not 1.
Check in the GUID folder to make sure that the xml files are repopulating. This may take a bit of time.

  • FYI: TrendMicro antivirus prevents Transport Service from starting after installing Echange Server 2013 Service Pack 1

I installed Exchange Server 2013 SP1 in my test environment. After that mail flow between internal and external mail servers completely stopped. In the end I discovered that Transport Service on both of the mailbox servers refused to start (or, to be more
    exact, stopped shortly after starting).
The following events appeared in the System event log:

The reason for that behavior was TrendMicro ScanMail for Exchange 11. Seems that it was unable to work with the new SP properly and prevented the entire Transport Service from starting. Uninstallation of the antivirus eliminated the issue.

Actually, you can just disable the agents until TrendMicro releases a patch and then enable them again:

BTW, a similar problem (high CPU utilization and services not starting) is hitting the AVG package:

  • Generation of k type PR  and service through maintenance order

    dear all,
i require help from all of you , how i can book service and  k type purchase requition  cost on the maitntenance order.
    raghav

    Hi,
You can buy non stock material of Item Category N via MO , PR will get generated and u can create PO for that PR and receive the material ..
If the Non stock material does not have a material master record, In Component Tab - you can still enter description , quantity -units of purchase , purchasing details with vendor and generate PR accordingly ..
If the Non stock material has material master record you can enter that manually , else create an eqpt BOM or material BOM - mention this non stock material in that and use the BOM [ going to component Tab -selecting List option at bottom] while creating Maintenance Order on tht eqpt ..
We can maintain only PR of one type for Maintenance Order ..we generally use PR NB Type as per config settings spro ->PM->Maintenance and service orders ->General data ->Define Account Assignment and document type for PRs ..
If u want to have separate PR type for non stock component procurement then u can try via user exit COZF0002 Change purchase req. for externally procured component..i am not sure wht u mean by part code here ..
