Can FCE 'clean up' audio & dv or dvpro

Hi,
I'm working with a clip recorded on a Sony PD150 with the onboard mic. Audio is pretty good, but to my ear it does seem like I can hear the camera slightly. Does FCE have a way to improve this? I've been tinkering with audio filters, but I'm not really making any progress.
Also, the pd150 can record in dv or dvcam. Is one preferable to another from the FCE perspective?
Thanks,
Tom

Hi(Bonjour)!
For the audio issue, try 10 or 30 band graphic equalizer to isolate the motor frequency.

I have a problem; a silica gel ball is inside my 35 mm out, was a problem with a silica gel bag that was in my backpack.
I tried a lot of things but that ball still inside, there is a way to clean the port from "inside"???

    from the inside, no.

  • How can I ONLY capture AUDIO in FCE 4?

How can I set my FCE 4 capture setting to ONLY capture the AUDIO from my video tape?
I only need to the audio, and don't want to bother with the video in order to save space
    thanks very much

Final Cut Express does not support audio-only capture.  Never has.   You can only capture video+audio.
I suggest capturing the video+audio.  Then in FCE place the entire clip in a sequence, unlink the audio tracks from the video track and then export the audio track to AIFF.  Once you have your audio file you can delete the video clip from your hard drive to save space.
Alternatively, connect the audio line out from your device (a VCR?) to your Mac's audio line in and record the audio in QuickTime or any audio editing app.  Keep in mind that if you plan to use the audio in FCE it needs to be AIFF, 16-bit (aka 48KHz) stereo.

From your statements above, it sounds like you never tried to burn a CD for at least the first year that you owned the laptop, as it had a one year warranty on it. While you might have used it frequently to install software,  play DVDs, Blu-Ray disks, etc, that's unclear from your statements. Nonetheless, it might just be dirty-dusty. So, before deleting-uninstalling any software, and given they're cheap, try a CD-DVD Cleaner Disk first and see if that resolves your problems.
Let us know what happens. Good luck.

  • I have duplicative song files in my library that are grayed out.  This seems to cause a syncing problem to my ipod or iphone.  How can I clean up this mess?

I chose to let iTunes rearrange my files and it appears to have duplicated them in my computer's drive.  So now I have the same folders/files directly under my D drive (second computer hard drive) and also in the iTunes Music Folder that iTunes created.  Wasn't sure what to do so I did another import and now I have files in my library that are grayed out with the small i symbol in the circle next to them.  I also have the working (bolded) files too.  How can I clean this up?

Is there a way to override the 256kbps "conversion" when uploading to iCloud?
No. All music that is mirrored in the cloud will be AAC@256 Kbps.
    Musicman05 wrote:
Along the same lines, if I "download" a song from my library to my iPhone, then plug my iPhone into my computer and sync the song file from my computer, will the higher quality original file overwrite the 256 one?
No, because with iTunes Match enabled on an iOS device traditional syncing of music via USB is disabled. All music management is done directly on the device.
    Musicman05 wrote:
Also, if I want to syncronize another computer using iTunes match, how can I get the higher quality audio files?  Will I simply have to transport all of them by an exernal hard drive or thumb drive?
You will first have to copy the high-quality audio files to the computer, add them to the iTunes library then enable iTunes Match.

  • FMLE 3.2 and 3.1 can't detect an audio device with Windows 8.1

FMLE 3.2 and 3.1 can't detect an audio device with Windows 8.1 x64 on an MSI GT72-2QD laptop. I tried 2 different webcams but the result was the same. Both the internal mic and the ones going with the webcams work fine with other software but when I try FMLE it looks as follows:
It says that there's no audio device connected (although the mics work fine elsewhere), the dropout is blank and the audio parameters are grayed out and inactive even with the "audio" box checked. Both versions of FMLE work fine with the same cams on a desktop which has all the same tech specs but uses Win 7 x64. Running FMLE in Win7 compatibility mode or reinstalling with register cleaning doesn't help. What can be done about it?

    Hi Bob,
Thanks for the advice. It succeeded.
The steps I made was to make a disk copy of my original Windows XP disk using Disk Utilty. Then I renamed the disk copy into .iso. I copied the ISO file to my usb flash drive.
Than I started Parallels 7, created a new VM, selected the correct drive to install from (the usb flash drive) and volia, it worked.

  • Can you edit whole audio as one file?

I have done the bulk of transitions and mixing in final cut and just want to use soundtrack to eliminate some hiss and tiny bit of clean up can i send the audio as a complete file so I dont have to do multitrack and risk messing my mixes and transitions etc?

I do my complicated audio in Logic Pro, so I don't really understand Soundtrack Pro.
That said, if you want to apply one effect to the whole sequence in FCP,
    you can nest the sequence:
    1. Edit > Select All
    2. Sequence > Nest (no need to mixdown audio if it's stereo)
    3. Option-click on the nested Audio to open it in the Viewer.
    4. Add your global effects.
    Sweet!
Nesting is described in the FCS2 manual on page III-416.
It's a really useful technique. You can go back and
tweak the original edit, and the nested sequence will update.
BTW, when mixing digital audio, most folks set it to peak
    around -12dB.
Note that if you have some clips that are too loud or soft,
it's best to adjust those clips' volumes, instead of squashing
the whole mix with a global limiter.
Finally, the best way to check if your mix levels are even
is to jump around to different locations of the timeline,
listening at a low level, making sure you can hear all the elements.
Sometimes the best way to even things out is to adjust the EQ
    instead of the gain.

  • Clean up audio

Anybody have a suggestion on how to clean up audio in a video without having to re-import the files into iMovie?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion -- I also have the Toast Titanium Pro bundle, and didn't realize that I already had the SoundSoap program (SE 2.2.0 version). However -- how do I get the audio file out of iMovie into SoundSoap, and then back into iMovie after cleaning? After splitting the clip (isolating the 2 min portion with the troublesome audio) in iMovie, I did Edit > Detach Audio, but can't seem to copy the audio file into SoundSoap.

  • Cleaning up audio files with the eax clean

    hi gang]
i was recording 78 records before and i was useing the eax clean up to clean them up.after i use the clean up im not sure that clean up did anything.it doesnt save the new clean up as a new file.how do i
no if it cleaned anything?also it says you have to use it with the creative media organizer-how do i do
    that?is there a procedure?thanks
    coonsanders

Creative MediaSource can realtime clean up your noisy audio. So, you can connect your records into the line-in of your sound card and then enable MediaSource to do a li've clean up of the line-in.
If your have noisy audio files, you can also use MediaSource to do a li've clean up of the noisy audio files as the files are played via MediaSource.
However, MediaSource does not save the "cleaned" audio. One trick to use What U Hear recording to record the cleaned audio.

  • Why Does FCE capture DV audio as dual mono instead of stereo?

FCE captures DV audio as dual mono audio files instead of a single stereo audio file. You can see this if you "Show Movie Properties" in Quicktime. Files I captured in Premiere 6 years ago have a single stereo file. The problem is that the new dual mono format for DV won't play on the Final Cut Pro 3.04 installed on my wife's G4 (OS 10.4.11, Quicktime 7.6.2). FCP 3.04 doesn't see any audio for these dual mono files though it will play the video. It won't even create an audio waveform. But FCP 3.04 plays the older stereo audio clips captured in Premiere just fine. And if I export the dual mono files out of QT as a stereo file, then FCP 3.04 will play them just fine.
This lack of backward compatibility is quite frustrating. I can't seem to find a setting in FCE that will capture audio as a single stereo file. Why isn't NTSC DV always stereo? I guess maybe they had to go dual mono to facilitate surround sound panning in 5:1 or something. If nobody knows how to do this in FCE, I guess I'll just capture in FCP 3.04. I spent the better part of a day figuring out this hidden little tidbit. The lesson is don't try to go back!! We must always accelerate forward into newer versions and formats.

The problem is in your wife's machine. She is using a version of the OS and QuickTime that are much too new for the version of the software she's using. She really not not be using an OS newer than 10.4.10 and QT should 7.2 or earlier.
Yes. I was beginning to suspect that this was at the root cause of my issue. Thanks for the info. Frankly, my wife needs to buy a new Intel iMac so we'll both be able to work on the video I'm dumping. I had FCP 3 lying around from years ago and it's the only thing that might have worked on her old G4 AGP, so I thought I'd give it a try.

  • Cleaning up audio causes "wind tunnel" effect - how to fix?

I typically use Soundbooth to clean up any problems in audio, like hiss or buzz/hum noise.  I just use the default "Clean Up Audio" tool on the left side when I open the program.  It seems, though, when I adjust the levels to anything decent to get the problems out of the audio, inevitably I get a sort of "wind tunnel" effect in the sound.  Does anyone know how I can prevent this in the future?

  • I can't start an audio or video in ichat 6 on Lion

I chat used to work for me.  Now I can't start up audio or video chats.
The error message I get is
"iChat can’t start the audio chat."
"Your computer is busy in another chat."
    I have tried the following
    restart ichat
    reinstall ichat
    remove ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iChat*
I am using gtalk as my account.
    Any help would be awesome
    Nathan

    Hi,
In Snow Leopard iChat and Face Time could be open at the same time and in fact use the camera (and or mic) at the same time.
I am not sure this is possible in Lion so I would launch Face Time and check that it is Off in the Preferences.
Although deleting all the com.apple.ichat  .plists is excessive it should have closed any Open Chat (or what it thought was open) when you restarted.  (Although you don't say you have restarted iChat since deleting them)
However there is one setting that may have upset this.
In System Preference > General Pane (Used to be the Appearance pane) is a check box to Cause any Open window on Quit to be reopened on any app launch.
If any window is Minimised to the DOCK that is where it is put back.  (If it is trying to reconnect an audio or Video Chat this may be an Invite window)
As iChat can do Video and Audio Chats Peer-to-Peer it is pointless deleting com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist or the Jabber one or in fact the Yahoo one as once a chat is started you can log out of the relevant Buddy List (Make that Account Off Line).
It is possible that this a a new style Message in Lion to Say "Your Camera/Mic is in use in another application"
As Reinstalling (Hopefully iChat 6) and deleting all the .plist  and then restarting should have given you a clean slate, as it were, it is difficult to see what the issue could be or what to suggest next.

  • Can't hear any audio off of my iPod

I have a 30GB iPod classic, and for the last year or so I've noticed the audio has started to go. First I was using just the standard provided headphones, and the audio went out in one earbud. I've replaced the headphones several times, but to my dismay, the headphones are obviously not the problem. I can still view everything on my iPod, I know the volume is turned up, but now, I can't get a single sound out of my iPod. I don't have a dock, so I haven't tried that yet, but I'd like to hear something out of my headphones.

Would have been nice if you had access to a dock port to test out the sound card.
Try [*_RESETTING and/or RESTORING*|http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/fivers/classic/#] your iPod Classic. (Keep in mind that RESTORING will return your iPod to original factory settings and will erase all your data and you will need to re-install via iTunes).
If that doesn't work then you can try cleaning out the headphone jack with an object smaller than equivalent to the size of the headphone plug. If that doesn't work then I your headphone jack assembly has failed and will need repair.

  • Cleaning up audio (wind, camera noise)?

I made two mistakes in filming my recent movie:
    1) I forgot to turn on the wind shield on my camera for a couple of the outdoor scenes, which resulted in a low rumbling of wind that tends to overshadow the dialogue, and
    2) My camera's microphone is located at the bottom front, and in the first few days of filming when I gripped the camera body, a finger or two was covering the mic. The result was a tinny sound (probably the camera motor) that tends to mute the dialogue.
I was wondering what I can do to try to clean these things up. In the past, I've used Audacity to clean up audio, but I wanted to know if other solutions exist. Thanks.

Hi Jim - it's me again!
You might like to have a look at SoundSoap (but it's not free). I've heard good reports about it. Although, apparently when removing background sounds (such as wind) other sounds (like voices) can sometimes be distorted or muffled by the process. This applies to most products like this. So things may end up sounding worse. It's probably a matter of trial and error.

  • Software for cleaning-up audio

Can anyone suggest software good at cleaning up audio? I am trying to preserve some audio tapes and am finding two major issues: tape hiss and occasionally high-pitched whistling sounds. Anything out there that can help clean these up? I realize tape hiss can't be cleaned up all that much without seriously compromising the original sound. But I'm hoping there's a way to isolate the frequency of the whistle and remove it. Any suggestions? Any shareware perhaps??
    Thanks!

    Dimitry,
Check out this site: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ I wanted something to do just what you're hoping to accomplish. I too have a lot of tapes that I'd like to convert to CD; after doing one conversion(to date), though the exercise was worth the learning experience, I may not continue and simply make new CDs of music that I have on my LPs. One of the plug-ins is tape hiss removal. It probably will remove the hiss quite effectively. It's an open source program so no cost is required.
    Hope this helps,
    Paul
