Can't scan from my computer or to my computer from the scanner

I used to be able to scan from my computer. Then the scanner function from the computer disappeared, but I could still scan at the HP8600 printer, and send it to my computer, but now my computer doesn't show up as an option in the scan function, and I can't figure out how to add it. Have looked for solutions on line, but don't have the HP Solutions Center. Have gone thru the troubleshoot download, and all went well till it asked me if my computer is hooked up with a USB cable, and it isn't. Showing an error. I'm just running in circles. I have Windows 7.

Hello @sbappraiser ,
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to ask that question on the HP Forums today!
I understand you are having some trouble with the scanner software portion of your printer software for your wireless HP Officejet 8600. You say that the scanning software disappeared and was working for a bit, but now isn't.
Just so you know HP Solution Centre is old HP software for older models, the Officejet 8600 uses the Printer Assistant Software. What I am going to get you to do is an "Uninstall/Reinstall" of the software so that you can clean out anything that isn't good in there right now and replace it with the up to date "good stuff".
Please follow these 2 documents the best you can let me know what goes on;
1. How to uninstall the printer properly >> Uninstalling the Printer
2. How to install the printer using the internet >> Setting Up the Printer for a Wireless or Wired Network for the HP Officejet Pro 251dw, 276dw, and 86...
Look forward to hearing back from you!

  • Image capture, can't scan

I have an epson 2480 scanner that worked with image capture in tiger. After upgrading to Leopard, it seems that I can no longer scan. Image Capture speaks to the scanner (the scanner will scan a preview when I launch image capture), but the scan button is greyed out.
This ***** because I would use image capture to share the scanner with other users in my group. Now, the only way to scan is to sit at the computer that is hooked up to the scanner and scan there using the epson scan software.
If anyone has any ideas as to how to re-enable image capture scanning, I would love to hear it.
On another note, image capture does not work on any local account on the machine, whether admin or standard.
    Thanks for any advice...

As far as sharing the scanner using image capture, browse to the scanner (devices > browse devices), then click on the sharing button on the bottom left of the window...You can share the device from there, and add a password if necessary...
    Cool when it works!
However, you cannot have more than 1 computer at a time using the scanner, so if another person has image capture open (but isn't using the scanner), you need to make them quit....
Still, this works pretty well (well, at least it did work pretty well
BTW-I thought I had installed the latest driver, but I will try again and see.....

  • Lexmark X6570: Can't scan

Hi all. I have the Lexmark X6570 All-In-One set up on my home network. I have no trouble at all printing to it from either my iMac, the household PC, or my MacBook Pro. I can also scan from the unit to either the iMac or the PC. I cannot scan to my MacBook Pro, not can I set up network scan settings or access on my MBP because whenever I try to do so, I get an error saying that the computer cannot establish a connection with the scanner. This seems odd to me because it has no trouble establishing a connection when I need to print.
Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so, is there a fix? I have installed the most recent driver from Lexmark (and that fixed an earlier problem I had getting it to print) but that hasn't resolved the scanning problem.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

I have a x4975 which does the same thing. If I want to scan have to reinstall the software for it to work. This works till either you shut down the Lexmark software or the MBP. Haven't figured that out yet, not that I tried. Have found out that after getting "A communication error has occurred" if you click on the + to add a network device it brings up a box for a second before failure. In the search for I.P. address it looks for the MPB's address not the x4975. Have verified this by changing the I.P. address on both the printer and the computer. It always searches for the computer. Don't know if this helps but believe that is where the problem lies. On the other hand I don't know how to correct that.

  • I can not use CanoScan N670U with my Macbook pro. I download canoscan toolbox 4.1 from Cannon website. It keep saying "the scanner plug-in was not found". Please help

I can not use CanaScan N670U with my Macbook Pro. I download Canoscan toolbox 4.1 from Cannon websit. It still keep saying "The scanner plug-in was not found". Please help

There is a solution (I'm running Snow Leopard on a Core2Duo iMac, but this problem arose when I was running Leopard on a G4 PowerBook too).
    Problem:
You download the OS X driver for the scanner from Canon's site. I already had the CanoScan Toolbox (4.1) stored on an external drive.
You unzip the driver and run the VISE installer. After a search it finds your copy of Photoshop (and maybe even the CanoScan Toolbox), and you click to install on that/those location(s).
You get a couple of error messages, which you click through.
You restart your computer and try to run the scanner but you get an error that the driver is wrong or missing and the process will abort.
    Solution:
BEFORE you restart, and with the installer package still open -
    1. Copy the Into_CFMSupport_Login & Into_CMPrefs folders to
    Applications : Canon Utilities
    Applications : Canoscan Toolbox
and remove the prefix Into_ from each folder
    2. Check whether the installer placed N067U_Library.shlb into the top level (not User level)
    Library : CFMSupport
and if it didn't, move it there yourself
THEN restart, and try again. It worked for me (via Photoshop), but whether it will work for everyone, I don't know.

  • Can not scan from mx4890dw buttons, only from the computer

    Hello,
I got this Canon AIO a few days ago. I followed the start up guide instructions, got it signed on to the wireless net work easily enough, and installed the software from the CD onto a Win 7 64 bit Dell laptop.
Printing worked perfectly from the get go. Also, "Copy" seems to be working fine. Fax appears to be working, although I can't confirm yet that a fax has gone through ( no one is at work ) and I may have some questions later about how to send and receive fax when sharing a phone jack with a Comcast modem/cable set up. And how to get it to accept faxs while ignoring voice calls.
As for Scan, after I figured out that I had to push the scan button and choose "remote scanner" ( I push the scan button/Remote scanner/ buttons, get the message "waiting" and then operate from the computer) the scan function worked perfectly, in single and duplex, when controlled FROM the computer and Canon MFC toolbox software. But for the life of me I can not get it to scan from the Canon mx4890dw buttons. I push Scan, then "computer", then I select my computer ( there is only one computer), then either color or BW scan. All seems OK until here. But after I select color or BW,  I get a screen that says :"Scanning" with the choice to either cancel or "confirm destination". I select Confirm destination, which then takes me to a screen which says: Confirm destination" showing both the name of my computer and "color scan". That is it, as far as I can go. If I press "OK" it just takes me back to a choice of confirm or cancel. I am trapped in a cycle between these last 2 screens. Once I get to the next to last screen that says "Scanning: cancel or confirm destination", the processing data light starts flashing green. After a minute or so it will stop flashing with the message "an error has occurred/CLOSE". Oh, BTW, I have registered the scanner on the Canon MF Network Scan Utility.
So, I figure there is some button I am failing to push, or I am missing a step. Any one have any ideas on how to get this to scan from the Canon machine?
    Thanks
    Bill

Thank you Deborah, but after many hours of trial and error, time spent with Norton 360 AV/Firewall folks, many install/uninstalls ( especially after I saw on the E-manual that if you plug a cable from the printer into the computer, and you want to go back to wireless, you must uninstall/reinstall the software), the problem is finally apparently completely solved.
I found what I thought might be the problem by accident. When I last got off the phone with Canon, all they had to suggest was that it was either a Norton or firewall issue, or possibly a computer issue, and nothing they could really do or suggest about that. I accepted this, but while wondering what in the world I was going to do, it dawned on me that my previous Kodak all in one( that this machine replaced) had worked fine, with no scanner problems at all, with this computer, Norton and network. So it seemed like it had to be something other than those things. And I believe a Canon inkjet all in one before the Kodak had also worked with no issues scan wise.
Then I decided to try something else on a whim: I cranked up my old Acer Win XP and installed the software, and guess what happened? Perfect function in all ways from the printer/scanner. Scanned perfectly from the Canon using the panel buttons on the printer. And over the wireless network on an old computer using the same Norton Firewall as my Dell. So it now seemed impossible that it could be the network or firewall. It had to be the only variable, the computer or someway the canon was in conflict with the Win 7 Dell. I bet you can see where this is going! So I go to the online support for Canon and sure enough there are Windows 7 drivers for download as well as a firmware update. So I down load these and clock on them, but as far asd I can tell, nothing happens. It appears they did not complete installation.
So the next day I am back on the phone with Canon. Asking in desperation if they can think of anything before I return this machine back to Staples and get something else, which I really hated to do, but I can't take any more of this, as now it had stopped printing also( but all still hunky dory on the Acer!). But this time, the person I am talking to quickly asks if I am trying to install wireless, and says "hold on while I get you to the wireless guys". The wireless expert listens to my problems and quickly says "did you download the Win 7X64 driver?". I said I had tried but it didn't seem to do much. So he has me download it again and shows me the trick: when you click on the download, it creates a folder somewhere else where the driver is actually stored. I click on that driver, and 10 minutes later all is working perfectly. In fact, before I even hang up with the wireless guy, I press the buttons on the Canon and scan quickly to the computer.
So for now all seems perfect, just as it was immediately once I tried it on the Windows XP machine. So I suggest that this be the first thing suggested when folks are having trouble installing on a Win 7 computer. In fact, I have since noticed there is a sheet of paper that came with the canon that advises downloading drivers for Mac computers. Too bad it didn't mention this for for Win 7 also, since apparently at least some of the installation CDs don't include these drivers.
Now I am wondering if I should try and do the firmware update? Kind of afraid to fix what ain't broke.

  • Can't scan to Computer using MFPM425

Just bought a new MFP M425.  There is no feature to "Scan to PC" , rather 1) scan to USB, 2) scan to Network Folder or 3) Scan to Email.  I want to be able to use the scanner feature to scan directly to my PC and to a pdf format.  There have been some previous posts regarding using "Windows Fax and Scan" but that does have a .pdf option.  Other posts talk about using the "HP Scan software from your PC"    Is the "HP Scan software"  a separate download?  Any other options?  Thanks for your help.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Scanning to a computer from teh front panel is ot supported on many Laserjet devices such as the M425.
If the printer is connected to the network you may set a shared network folder and scan PDF from the front panel, that an be set as following:
    http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=5096243&docId=emr_na-c03463750&docLocale...
If you prefer to use the HP Scan software install the full feature software on your PC, scanning can be initiated from the HP Scan software on your PC, not from the front panel of the printer.
The full feature software can be downloaded below:
    http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5096245&swItemId=ma_104479_4&swEnvOid=406...
Then the HP Scan software will be available under Start > Programs > HP > the printer folder.

  • Cm1312nfi mfp on 32bit windows 7 - upgraded with full solution sw and can't scan from printer

I have had a cm1312nfi mrp since 2009 that works fine but my HP Solution centre stopped giving me ink levels.
I uninstalled the printer software and downloded the current full solution sw for 32 bit windows 7 from HP. The printer works but I did not 'get' HP solution centre back and so cannot scan from the printer.
[I did download HP toolbox so I can see ink levels and can test the scan function which does work. However it does not have the ocr capabiltity which I had before and also it doesn't allow me to operate the scanner from the printer.]
Can you help me either get HP solution Centre back and functioning on my computer or else suggest some other solution to my problem?

    Hi,
The HP Solution Center is a software for inkjet printers as the HP Officejet product line, not for laserjet printers as the CM1312.
You may find the Supplies status within the HPToolboxFX softwre by selecting Supplies:

HP Photosmart 5520. I can print FROM my computer just fine, but can't scan from the printer TO my computer. Message is "Connection Error." This happens sometimes, but usually I can fix by turning everything off, disconnecting, and starting over. Today nothing works. This is getting tiresome. Hi,
The scan to computer is disabled by default (I don't know why the software girls/guys desinged that way). On my machine, driver for Windows 8 is much better (even same exe file). Please enable it using the following steps (please note: for Windows machines)
Double click printer icon on desktop,
       Click Manage Scan to Computer,
       Click Enable
You may want to tick the last square too.

I clicked on a link in an email that may be spam/phishing.  How can I scan my mac book pro for viruses?

You can just download the free ClamXav and scan your entire drive - but as there are no known viruses for OS X (although there is malware - see Thomas Reed's excellent Mac Malware Guide) it's very unlikely that you have a virus.
The best source against malware is OS X itself and common sense. Don't click on links in suspicious emails and be careful of anything that wants to install something on your computer that is not from a reputable source.

  • Can't scan from 5610 all in one front panel

I have an HP5610 all in one installed on my Dell Vostro 200 with E6550 dual core processor, XP SP3 home OS. I noticed the problem when I tried to scan from the front panel of my 5610 and the orange exclamation light started blinking. The display said "No Scan Options". I ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor and it said to set the front panel scan destinations. I selected the default settings and closed the HP Direc.exe. When I opened the HP Direc.exe and looked for the panel destination that I set, I saw that they did not save. I can scan just fine using the HP software and have been doing so for many years. I now am wondering if I have had this issue all along, especially since I never remember trying to scan from the front panel of my 5610 until the other day.
I have done just about everything the Printing and Scan Doctor told me to do. I have shut down my 5610, unplugged it for several minutes, plugged it back in, removed the all in one program and reinstalled from the HP website. What is strange...I have the 5610 software installed on a Dell 3000 Dimension I have in a home network and it works perfectly. I'm seriously thinking about moving the 5610 in the room with my Dimension 3000 and buying a (print only) printer for my Vostro 200. I can work around this but I can't stand to have something not work correctly with a very good computer. Please, no comments on my preferred operating system. I am not upgrading, and as I said, this all in one works perfectly with a PC built in 2004. And contrary to belief, I am still getting security updates on a biweekly basis from Microsoft. One day last week I got 8 in one day. Thanks all for all of your excellent help!

  • Can't scan from Lexmark multifunction printer - firewall issue?

    Hi there!
I got a Lexmark printer/scanner combo which used to work fine on my arch install. However, its mobo died, so now I'm back at another install which refuses to scan. Scanning is done through the browser via a java applet residing on the printer's webserver. The applet does start (so it's not a java issue), but refuses to receive data from the scanner. Within the printer's web interface, it reads
If using Windows XP, the Windows XP personal firewall must be disabled before using Scan to PC profiles.
, so I'm assuming it might be a firewall issue. Lexmark's website provides the following advice:
The following two command lines will open the port 5353 for incoming and outgoing connections:
    iptables -I INPUT -p udp -m udp --sport 5353 -j ACCEPT
    iptables -I OUTPUT -p udp -m udp --dport 5353 -j ACCEPT
NOTE: These steps will work on most distributions configured with IPTABLES. There is no common command to make these rules persistent.
As I don't know anything about IP tables, I've simply copied these commands (as root, obviously). Still, I can't scan.
    So, my questions are:
    1. Has anybody else ever come across an issue like this?
    2. I don't even know for sure, whether this is a firewall issue - What iptabled magic would I need to temporarily disable the firewall to check?
    3. I tried checking my rules by "iptables -L". How can I tell "iptables -L" to specify the ports it is working on (as I did in the commands copied from lexmark's website)?
    Best wishes,
    Rufus

    Hi Bob
I believe so.  We put the install disc into this mac back when we bought it to set up the printer.  I'm assuming the scanning drivers were there as well since it's a multifunctional printer/scanner/fax wireless printer.
We've tried it both ways.  If I press the button scan on the printer, it reads can't find computer (or something like that).  When we go thru the HP icon on my computer screen and choose scan to computer, it does nothing.
We don't scan that often.  So the few times when we ran into this problem, we just did something else (like take a pic from our iPhone and email the pic...kinda stupid but did the trick.
But I want to have the function of the scanner available.  So that's why I'm here asking...thought others had this issue and had a solution.
