Cannot configure wrt54gs v6 router for use with filezilla FTP client

I am new to working with FTP and very rusty on networking in general.  I just downloaded filezilla to create a FTP client on my desktop.  When I run their wizard, it says the connection is tainted by my router.  All the forums for filezilla say I need to configure my router to allow traffic on either port 21 (ftp) or a range of ports ( they suggest 50000 to 50100).
Please let me know what I need to do to make this work
thanks in advance

To answer your other questions, the tutorials have it all wrong. What they really need to explain, but fail to do so, is that the only situation where a FTP client would need to use active mode (the PORT command) is where the FTP server can't accept inbound connections on arbitrary port numbers. But that's a pathological case anyway: the FTP server can always accept connections on some well defined set of port numbers, to keep its own local firewall or NAT router happy. Consequently, there is really no need at all for a FTP client system to open up any ports to support active mode, rather than always operate in passive mode (as browsers do.)
The fact of the matter is that if passive mode works in a browser for you, it will work for Filezilla also.
And the configuration tests it runs are brain damaged. Even though the wizard recommends passive mode, it never tests for it. And it doesn't really test active mode either. What it really tests is whether anything between the client and the server is "transparently" translating IP addresses and port numbers. Such a test is broken, because the mere fact of port numbers being rewritten in TCP packets is irrelevant to whether PORT (active mode) will succeed or fail.
For completeness, in case someone decides to get pedantic, there is a case where a FTP client system would need the active mode PORT command to work, but that case is now of historical interest only. It's a scenario that FTP servers no longer support, for security reasons. (What is it? When the FTP client is operating as a controller to remotely transfer files between two servers: it tells one server to use passive mode, and sends the address/port it gets to the other server in active mode, which in theory would make the second server open a connection to the first. This, in fact, is why two modes, active and passive, were originally defined in the FTP standard!)  And it still wouldn't need open ports on the client system.

  • Best wireless router for use with Powerbook 15"

Not everyone uses the Apple Airport, and some who do have mixed feelings about the various models.
What is the best wireless router, from any manufacturer, for use with an AlBook? What has the least problems, most reliable, strongest signal, fewest drops, best range, etc in your experience.

    Joeski,
I'll have to get back to you on what card my wifes laptop is using. I think it's a 802.11a/g, but I will confirm. My Powerbook 1.67 has the built in wireless card and to be honest, I have never looked to see what it uses.
We have our D-Link router set up for WPA2.
Neither her or I have had any issues when we have had to connect anywhere to any other wireless network and when I come home, I can connect back to my router automatically since my network is set up on my Powerbook as my 1st network of choice in connecting.
As far as replacing the antenna, I really dont know. It's has 3 antennas on it and I get a great signal, so I never thought about replacing it.
Hope this information is helpful to you!

  • My Deskjet 3050 J610 will not connect to my Virgin WiFi router for use with Apple Mac laptop.

I live in the UK and have Broadband access via a Virgin connection and WiFi router. My Apple MacBook laptop connects to the WiFi with no difficulties. However I have an HP Deskjet 3050 J610 printer which will not connect to the router. When I try to connect, the blue light just keeps on flashing but a connection is not found. Consequently my MacBook cannot "see" the printer on the network. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • How do I set up my router for use with only my laptop?

I want to use my WRT300N v1 broadband router wirelessly with only my laptop, but the set-up instructions I've seen involve wiring the router to a desktop. Can anyone provide me with the instructions I need?
    Thanks.

It is not an mandotary step to connect the Desktop to the Router... it just indicates that first you need ant computer connected to the router using cable & working online ....
If you want to go online with Laptop .... either you can connect the Laptop to the Router using Cable or you can wirelessly go online ,.....
Connect the Laptop to the router using Ethernet Cable ,,,,, at LAN port 1-4 .... Check the light status ... access setup page ...
Click on the Wireless tab on the Setup page- Here Wireless Network mode
should be mixed- Provide any non linksys network name ....
Name (SSID) box- Set wireless channel to 11- And wireless SSID
broadcast should be Enabled and then click on "Save Settings" >>Now
Click on the Sub tab under wireless > "Wireless Security" Change the
Wireless security mode to "WEP/WPA"...have a note of the key ... click save settings ...
On the Laptop try connecting to the Wireless network ...
    See if it connects ....

  • Help configuring OS X Server for use with SuperDuper!

Hi, I am trying to configure my Mac Mini running Mavericks and OS X Server and my MBP so that I can make SuperDuper! backups from the internal drive in the MBP to an external drive connected to the Mac Mini. I would like to be able to make a connection wirelessly over the LAN so that I can configure automatic scheduled backups. Can anyone help me with this? I am inexperienced with Server and have not been able to get SuperDuper to locate the external drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You can't do that. "SuperDuper" doesn't work over a network. "Carbon Copy Cloner" does.

  • Database Design for use with XSQL-connected Clients

    Hi all,
this might seem a little off-topic at first, but I suppose we are not the only ones reading this group designing an architechture using XSQL servlet as the only connection to the database, with clients connecting over the internet.
So far our approach works well, but of course any database round trip is much more expensive in this environment than with clients that hold an open connection to the database.
That led us to the idea of generating primary keys on the client instead of the database (e.g. with CoCreateGuid on Win32). Do those GUIDs have to be stored in the Oracle database in a RAW column or does a NUMBER field do the job?
I found a hint in the Oracle 8i Replication manual to use SYS_GUID values in a RAW(32) column as a primary key to avoid conflicts between sequences on multiple machines. But I didn't find any statement concerning the performance issues of this.
Our database will not store huge amounts of data (most tables < 100.000 rows, just a handful more than a million in huge environments, which will be able to afford huge machines...), so this should not be
    a problem, I guess.
Does anyone of you have experience with this?
And another question: Can I safely assume that keys generated with SYS_GUID on the Oracle server will not likely be the same as those that are generated using CoCreateGuid on the Win32 client?
    Thanks for your input.

Don't GUID's have hyphens in them? If so, you'd have to use a VARCHAR2(xx) of appropriate length. If not, then you can likely use HEX_TO_RAW() and RAW_TO_HEX() to store then in a RAW as you've noted.
Note that the XSQL Servlet's default connection manager does to connection pooling, so the roundtrip to the database may not be as expensive as you're thinking. :-)

  • Doesn't play songs, "itunes is not configured for use with mac-formatted"??

Hi, new ipod shuffle. Seems to charge fine, all indicator lights function as expected. Everything looks fine in itunes. But it doesn't play songs. I have the most recent versions of itunes and the ipod software. Re-set, updated, and restored, nothing works. Even restored using the restore utility. Re-started computer. Checked for volume control. Won't play songs. Tried different file types. Songs play fine from itunes library and from the device's library within itunes. Tried different headphones. Hooked it up to computer speakers. Turning volume all the way up on device and speakers, heard some very faint rhythmic static, so my guess is the jack socket (or whatever you call it) is just messed up, but it seems weird that it can transfer power and data to the device but doesn't work for sound...
The only other issues that have come up is that the drive disappears in explorer once it syncs with itunes. Other people who've noticed this seem to have completely different problems so I don't think it's related.
Also, I have MacDrive on my computer. And when it starts up with the ipod plugged in, MacDrive offers the message "Itunes is not configured for use with Mac-formatted ipods." It offers to automatically reconfigure itunes so it can read mac-formatted ipods. Since I've restored the device, I don't see why formatting should be an issue so I say "no."
Should I try letting macdrive do its format thing? Should I try formatting the ipod disk on the My Computer menu? Or should I just email apple and tell them the jack's busted?
    Thanks for any thoughts!

Well, I have had my iPod for about 3 years, it is a 4th generation non-video 40 GB. One day it just stopped working, and now it does not play any songs. when I turn it on it makes this odd whirring sounds that computers make when they try really hard to do something. I cannot charge it, and it is not recognized by iTunes. Also when I turn it on, I get the apple.com/ipod/support (or whatever it is) screen. Needless to say, my warranty is expired, and so I cannot do anything for it except get a new battery, or buy a new one. Is there any way to fix this problem, or anyone out there who is experiencing the same thing?
I'm having the exact same problem with my wife's iPod. However it will play about 3 seconds of a song and go onto the next song.
If there is anyone out there that can help please do!

  • I currently have a D-Link DI-604 broadband router with windows computers.  How can I add wifi to the network for use with ipad?  Can I use AirPort Express?

I currently have a D-Link DI-604 broadband router with windows computers.  How can I add wifi to the network for use with ipad?  Can I use AirPort Express?

Yes. You can directly connect an 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) using an Ethernet cable. The AXn would then just need to be configured as a bridge to allow the D-Link to continue to provide both NAT & DHCP services for all network clients connected to either router.
In this configuration, the AXn would broadcast a wireless network for your wireless network clients to connect to.

  • Best wireless router (apple or non-apple)  for use with multiple Macs

What is the best wireless router, from any manufacturer, for use with 3-5 Macs? (in a reasonable price range... sub $150)
    least problems
    most reliable
    strongest signal/best range
    fewest drops
    fewest reboots

    The Apple Routers "just work".
I also have a linksys. It takes a good bit of knowledge and aggravation getting it set up, but once working it does fine.
If you plan to use your router to share a printer, hook to your stereo, etc. definitely stick with Apple. It will save you much grief.

Is that because you also ask the same question to Logitech and that was their response, since you're using a 3rd party software

  • Configuration of XSQL for use with non-Oracle dbs

If anyone has positive experiences with configuring XSQL for use with non Oracle databases I'd like to hear how they did it, see tutorials, configuration files, etc.
Specifically setting up to use MySQL or Postgresql on Linux/FreeBSD would be very interesting.
Also, does anyone use this without setting mime types? How would you go about this so you could point to the relevant servlets in the page?
    Josh

I don't understand how setting up for Non-Oracle DB's is related to not setting up the servlet as an extension-mapped servlet.
It might work, but would you run JSP's
that way? XSQL behaves very similiarly
inside to how a JSP runner works, which
    wants to be servlet-mapped.
However, OAS 4.0.8.1 does not support
extension mapping and XSQL works there
so i'm assuming it would work on other
servers set up that way. It's not
    a configuration we test/certify.

  • I cannot get into my router setup using 10.0.1.1

I cannot get into my router setup using 10.0.1.1
I did ipconfig and got the address but cannot open it up to make it a server.

This sounds like you are trying to use a web page setup for the AirPorts, which will not work.
You are aware that you must use an application.....AirPort Utility.....on a Mac, PC or iPhone or iPad to set up and configure the Airport routers, correct? The Setup Guide is pretty clear about this.
Is this a new AirPort Extreme that you have?  If yes, please review the System Requirements:
    Setup and Administration
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3
If you have a previous version of the AirPort Extreme.....and you have not downloaded and installed AirPort Utility 5.6.1 for Windows - Support - Apple , now might be a good time.
