Cannot connect to local Oracle11g manually?
Dear,
I installed Oracle 11g on WinXP SP2 machine using localhost with only 1 database SID="EBIZ". There are 2 services called OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener and OracleServiceEBIZ. By default, these services have startup type as Automatic, and I can connect my database ebiz easily (i.e. using SQLDeveloper to connect & access the db).
The problem is that I do not always use Oracle so I start these 2 Oracle services manually by setting the startup type as Manual and start them when necessary. However, doing this way, I receive an error "ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect description". Specifically, the database instance EBIZ cannot register to the listerner because when checking listener status (by cmd lsnrctl status) it says "The listener supports no services".
My steps to start 2 Oracle services are
1. Start OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener
...Wait several minutes to ensure the listerner works...
2. Start OracleServiceEBIZ
... Wait several minutes to ensure ???
But the result of cmd lsnrctl status is:

from the xserv where i am setting up a website i cannot access local host which is preventing me from setting up phpmyadmin config file. I open safari and type in http://localhost/ and i get the error message cannot connect to local host. I can access the server using the ip (no domain setup yet). I am a novice at setting up web serves in the mac/apache environment so i may have missed a simple step somewhere. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi, and a warm welcome to the forums!
No expert here, but have you tried http://127.0.0.1 ?
Might get better help in the xserve, or Server forums here. -
RD Gateway Manager cannot connect to local server
Hi,
I've come across a problem today where I'm unable to connect to our locally hosted RD Gateway server. We have one Server 2012 R2 machine with the Remote Desktop Services installed. The system was setup following the configuration wizard in Remote Desktop
Services section of Server Manager. One of our users has gone to connect to the main remote app hosted by this setup and received an expired certificate error. No problem I thought, checked the certificate on the server and it does indeed expire today. I'll
re-issue a self signed certificate through the RD Gateway Manager and all should be ok. On loading the RD Gateway Manager, clicking Connect to RD Gateway Server and selecting Local Server I get the following error.
"The RD Gateway Manager snap-in console cannot connect to the server "SERVER" because it is not a RD Gateway server."
I've checked that the services for remote desktop are running which they are, and I can connect to the server using standard RDP remote desktop. Any ideas on where to go next to solve this problem?
RobHi Rob,
It seems the issue related to certificate as can’t properly configured. You need to import the certificate and store in local computer/personal store. Please check below article and verify the steps for certificate and other related setting,
RDS: The RD Gateway server must be configured to use a valid SSL certificate
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd320340(v=ws.10).aspx
Hope it helps!
Thanks.

Cannot connect to local network while connected with EasyVPN
Hi All,
I'm looking on many forums for an answer, but I cannot get it working.
I have configured EasyVPN with CCP and also with CLI. I had it both working perfect, except the most important thing.
I can connect with the Cisco VPN client to the router, but i'm not able to connect or even ping a system inside the remote network. My laptop gets an IP address from the address pool of the router.
I really hope someone can help me before my manager is losing his patience :-)
Here is my config. (before someone is mentioning it, i have to clean up my config a bit...I mean, look at the acl's )

External Outlook connections, Web Outlook and autodiscover work fine.
local DNS points autodiscover.domain.com & exchange.domainname.com to internal IP
I have used the above configuration many time for Exch2010/Outlook 2010 and it works great.
PROBLEM: Outlook 2013 clients on a local domain member autoconfigure (through autodiscover) but report a certificate error that the names do not match. When I force the acceptance for the cert error the outlook13 account setups with an exchange server
of "BIG LONG GUID"@domainname.com which cannot resolve and outlook fails.
Please help..Hi ,
I have recently installed the exchnage 2013 as follow
one CAS and Two mail box DAG
so I was facing similier issue outlook clients were not able not see the CAS
so here are the magic solution :
1-created SRV recored for autodiscover same as acbrown2010 done
above in his reply
2-created
A record for autodiscover and the IP same as CAS IP
3-created
an internal Certificate in CAS server "create a new certificate request " and
include all names such CAS , MB's , Autodiscover this step to avoid the warning message during outlook setup because self sign certificates in ex2013 not helping
after that I have tested the outlook and was working fine NO GUID and NO certificates warning -
Cannot connect to local machine to or from my wireless machine
I have an AEBS and three Macs. Two are connected through ethernet and one wireless. The two that are connected via ethernet can VNC/AFP just fine. However, The one that is connected wirelessly cannot see anything on my network. either AFP or VNC. It can see the internet just fine. How do I configure my network to allow my wirelss maching to connect via VNC or AFP?
ThanksHave you manually changed the DNS settings on your laptop at any point? Unless you have a good reason to do otherwise, it should normally be set to "Obtain DNS server address automatically". This setting is buried deep in the network options on Windows.
Some parental control systems will detect attempts to use 3rd-party DNS servers, and will block them. This is because switching DNS servers could be used to bypass the parental controls. i can imagine that most libraries would have something installed to prevent people looking at "dodgy" web sites while in the library. -
Cannot connect to local network: accidental setup
I just setup a home network, and I went in to give access to my tivo because I thought I needed to add it to the access control list of IP's. However, I never added my own local IP so now I cannot log into my own network because I'm not on the list. I have no idea how to reset my networking preferences back to default and set everything up from the beginning. Yes, I'm a douche. Any ideas?
Dual g5 1.8 Mac OS X (10.4.6)Couple of ideas -
Reset to Factory default and set up from the beginning,
or, if I understand correctly that you have a fixed IP address, you could change to Configure using DHCP, set the reservation, then go back to configure manually. -
Cannot connect to Local Libraries' Wi-Fi via my La...
I have been having problems connecting to the wi-fi of my local library via my laptop for the last couple of weeks, after not having any problems connecting before.
I am able to connect to BT's wi-fi service, but when I try to log in to my local library's (Hackney Libraries) wi-fi, I get a message that the DNS is not recognised.
The libararians say that I should contact my internet service provider (which is BT), but I have since had problems contacting BT via their live chat service.
Is this a fault with my ISP or could it be my laptop?Have you manually changed the DNS settings on your laptop at any point? Unless you have a good reason to do otherwise, it should normally be set to "Obtain DNS server address automatically". This setting is buried deep in the network options on Windows.

Cisco ASA 5505 IPsec client VPN - Cannot connect to local hosts
I have created a Cisco IPsec vpn on my ASA using the VPN creation wizard. I am able to successfully connect to the vpn and seemingly join the network, but after I connect I am unable to connect to or ping any of the hosts on the network.
Checking the ASA I can see that a VPN session is open and my client reports that it is connected. If I attempt to ping the client from the ASA all packets are dropped.
I suspect it may be an issue with my firewall, but I am not really sure where to begin.
Here is a copy of my config, any pointers or tips are aprpeciated:

IPod Touch cannot connect to local Wi-Fi
So, iPod Tuch 4g with OS 5.1.1 finds my local router, but it just says "connection to network [...] failed".
MAC-filter is activated, but the iPod is authorized to connect. It doesn't work even if the filter is deactivated. It worked with no problems last week, no changes were made in the configuration of the router or the iPod. Solutions?Actually the password has only 16 digits, it still only worked for simple 8-digit-one (and I tried it at least one dozen times, so miss-typing can be excluded).
The router was installed only one or two months ago, it's using WPA2-Personal.
After I changed SSID and password I was able to connect to the router.
But my question now is to re-type in the password for a known network, that has already been used. Obviously I had no WiFi-connection because the password changed... -
No service. Cannot connect to local networks abroad
iPhone 6 I've used abroad before ok. Connected to a local network when I got off plane and received ee text about local usage and data packages. Bought a data package then just seeing 'no service' message. Checked roaming and EU settings and all fine. When I put carrier setting off automatic u can see local networks, connect to them but get no service displayed. Plenty of signal and business account which has worked fine before. Rebooted plenty of times. Can anyone help? Thanks
Hi .
Thanks for joining the community.
I have had this before myself and found turning the 4G off got me service.
Can you try this?
Also what country are you in?
Thanks. -
Cannot connect on local net via Bonjour
I have two iMac connected on a local router network. On Snow Leopard I could connect from each to each without problem. After upgrading to Lion, there is a problem. Using Finder/Go/Connect to Server, I can set up the afp addresses and connect OK on both. On each iMac, Bonjour finds the other iMac and puts its name in the Finder window under Shared. BUT, when I try to connect it shows "Connection Failed". If I then select Connect, I get a window from which I can connect as Guest, BUT not as Registered User. Is this a known bug?
Thank you kane_TO. I have an iMac (2006) set up with OS 10.7 and an iMac 2012 with OS 10.8. I have knocked my head against the wall repeatedly to get them to share files, and finally gave up. Your post gave me a clue. I was sharing a folder and also folders within that folder. That worked OK in 10.6.8, but apparently these OSs did not like it. I reduced the shared folders only to the top level folders, and magicaally, it works!

Cannot connect to local Webserver IPAD
I got a local test environment which runs IIS 7.0. I can call the local webserver from PC's via http://demo-pc/ and get the website to show. If I use the same URL on the IPad or IPhone or IPod Touch I get an error "address is not available". I tried installing the Opera browser on the IPad and still get the same problem.
Is there a solution to the problem. I saw some solution postings related to macbooks, but nothing on the iOS so far.You need to use the fully qualified domain name of your server with your iPad. Your Windows systems work without an FQDN because they can resolve the Active Directory (or Workgroup) name, but the iPad cannot. This may also happen with Mac OS X systems unless they're bound to the AD domain.

Never used airport and cannot connect to local network
hi,
i have an imac G5 and I have neverused the airport feature and am now at a location which has one and I can grab the local network name from the pulldown menu, and it asks for the WEP password, and I give it, and then I get a message that says "error connecting to network" or something like that. I tried moving the aiport to the top of the list and unchecking the other options but still to no avail.
help??The basic problem with WEP, other than it's no longer considered secure, is that it comes in a variety of "flavors" when it comes to accessing it with a password: password/passphrase, 40/128-ASCII key, or 40/128-bit hex key. In a mixed environment, it's best to use 128-bit hex, which would be a 26 hex character key. The WiFi you're trying to connect to may not be set up this way. What did the host for this WiFi tell you the WEP type is?

Dbstart works, but cannot connect
Hi,
this is my first post and I am new to oracle administration, but I think this is some kind of wierd:
Here is dbstart output (works alright):

Database "ora1" warm started.
Here is my try to conenct with sqlplus:

This looks like my env settings are bad (but they are ok):
[oracle@pele ~]$ env|grep -i ORACLE
USER=oracle
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/u01/app/oracle/OraHome_1//lib
ORACLE_SID=ora1
ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle

LOGNAME=oracle
ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/OraHome_1/
[oracle@pele ~]$
And here is oratab, which corresponds to my env settings:
[oracle@pele ~]$ cat /etc/oratab|grep ora1
ora1:/u01/app/oracle/OraHome_1:Y
So the problem is, dbstart seems to work, I can see all the oracle processes, the shared mem ... but I cannot connect to it. Manually starting the db per sqlplus works alright. But dbstart seems to do something on his own.
Thanks...
Oracle 10g, 10.1.0.4.0, Redhat EL4No, dbstart starts the database.
