Cannot upgrade past 10.4.0 & iTunes 7.3 Problems

I have a iMac-mini PowerPC 1.42Ghz, 512MB
Ever since I have loaded this with Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger I cannot upgrade this OS with any type of OS X updates. The error I get:
Macintosh HD
74.4GB (2.7GB Free)
Installing this software requires 506MB of space.
"You cannot install Mac OS X Update Combined (PowerPC) on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."
I cannot find any other such errors. Now I am stuck, because I recently updated iTunes to 7.3, however iTunes 7.3 requires Mac OS X 10.4.7
I would have thought iTunes update installer would have checked the OS version before applying the update?
Any ideas?

As was explained earlier, you require much more space free on your HD than is actually going to be taken up by the end product. This is due to temporary and swap files.
THe iTunes installer sounds as if it may not have actually upgraded things as it DOES require a higher OS version than the bare 10.4 version.
I suggest you try and dump as much stuff as possible from your HD to free up space. Not just from the point of view of installing the patest OS upgrade, but also from the point of view that you will see a significant increase in speed with more HD space free. I usually recommend a min of 20% free. How large is you HD in the mini? I have an 80GB drive and try to not go far over the 60GB mark.
There are reported problems with 10.4.10 so you may want to consider going to 10.4.9 and waiting for things to die down with 10.4.10. I know there is a V1.1 of 10.4.10, but reports are still coming in of Airport beachballing in the menu bar with this still.

  • Cannot upgrade to iOS 7 using iTunes with iPhone 4

When checking for update using iTunes 11.1, I get a message saying that 6.1.3 is the current version. However, my phone says that iOS 7 is available to install. I'd rather use iTunes because the WiFi at work is not very good. Any ideas?

Exact same problem here. iPhone 4 can see the update but I havn't got the space on there to do it so I need to use iTunes. Only problem is iTunes is telling me 6.1.3 is all up to date?

  • MCPro4.1 -cannot upgrade past IOSX 10.5.8 and now cannot transfer from itunes to my 4s which is upgraded to IOS7. What can I do?

    I have a MacBook Pro 4.1.
I have been unable to upgrade the software beyond OSX 10.5.8.
I have an iphone 4S and have previously been able to transfer tracks from itunes to the phone but now - though I can download music to the laptop, I cannot transfer them to the phone as I get an error message saying I need Itunes 11.1 which I have downloaded but I cannot run apparently because of the old operating system. Is there any way 'round this - without going back to the old OS on the phone?

To get to the next stage, Mac OS X 10.6, you will need to BUY a 10.6 DVD from the Apple Online Store and have them ship it to you. Once you have Installed, Update to 10.6.8, and a much newer version of iTunes will become available as an Update.

  • HT3576 How can I get rid of "Connect to itunes to use push notifications" pop-ups.  I just had to replace my iPhone 5 and when I did a restore from backup, most of my apps will not let me in becuase I cannot get past the"connect to itunes..." message.

My iPhone 5 was distroyed so I replaced it with a new iPhone 5 yesterday.  I did a restore from a backup that i had performed a week ago.  When I tried to use the phone several of my apps would not let me in becuase they continually gave me a popup message "Connect to Itunes to use push notifications".  I click ok and the popup comes back.  I have shut my phone off several times.  I have complete closed the apps several times.  I have even deleted the apps from my phone and reinstalled.  All to no avail.  Please help - does anyone know how to fix this?

Yes - I connected my phone to my computer / Itunes and went into the apps section, but from there I have no idea how to manage the push notifications.  I even tryied going into itunes that is installed on my phone.  I still cannot find anyplace to manage these popups.  I have also gone into settings - notifiations - and tried turning all notifications for these apps all off but that didnt work either.  Any guidance is MUCH appreciated - Im not sure where to go from here.

  • I cannot upgrade past 28 my dropdown menu will not work in the address bar I can not search from address bar stuck at home page

Once I open firefox browser with anything past 28.0 my browser becomes a paperweight no searches from the address bar. Not from the list of drop downs, not from typing the address in the bar. Stuck to the home page it had as default. Firefox does an update every time I close it forcing me to return to 28.0 or through my F--n computer in the trash. Noticed others had this problem but got only questions with no help coming from firefox. This is a Vista 64 bit if that maters. I kinda think maybe nothing past 28 will work but with Vista but no one from firefox will step up and say that.

Type '''about:addons'''<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager.
    Hot key; '''<Control>''(Mac:<Command>)''<Shift> A)'''
In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select '''Extensions.'''
Disable a few add-ons, then '''Restart Firefox.'''
Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause
Firefox issues. '''Disable All of them.'''
If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until
the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue.
Re-enable the last group '''ONE AT A TIME''' (restarting FF) until the problem returns.
Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the
others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is detective.

Using Windows 7 and itunes will not recognize the ios5 update? States that the version 4.2.1 it the most current software update? Any suggestions?

Do you have the compass app on your phone? If you press and hold the home button do you get voice control? I'm betting the answer to both of these questions is no.
You have an iPhone 3G. NOT a 3Gs. You can not install iOS 5.

  • Still cannot upgrade iTunes

This is an update to an earlier question I had posted.
    I desperately need help!
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with Windows Vista 32-bit and a 2nd generation iPod touch running iOS 3.1.3 (7E18). However, I would, obviously, like to upgrade to the latest iPhone OS.
    The problem? I can't.
Ever since iTunes 9 came out, I have been unable to successfully upgrade iTunes. I can only get up to version 8.2.1 to work on my computer. The install will appear to go fine, but I'll get various errors and even after getting a "iTunes was successfully installed" finish window, get an error saying that iTunes cannot open because Apple Application Support was not found, even though Apple Application Support installs as part of the iTunes install for iTunes 9 and higher. I also get an error trying to update via Apple Software Update.
I have literally tried every single thing I can think of or find online, including the "trouble installing iTunes" troubleshooting instructions on Apple's website. I am not sure I can take this to Apple for repairs because my iPod is out of warranty. Plus I have a PC, not a Mac. I did call a nearby Apple Store to see if I could bring it in, only to be told they don't work on PCs. The guy then asked what my issue was, and I told him. He told me to try Googling it, which of course I have already done -- many, many times.
To prove my claim is real, I have been making screenshots of all my errors. Here they are:
When installing iTunes from the website or from a prompt within my current iTunes version, after a bit I tend to get this error:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/Dani17/iTunes%20Upgrade%20Error%20Screens hots/ituneserror1.png
I click ok, the install continues, and then on occasion I have gotten this error:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/Dani17/iTunes%20Upgrade%20Error%20Screens hots/ituneserror2.png
I click out of it, the install continues, and then when it's almost to the end, it tends to stall:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/Dani17/iTunes%20Upgrade%20Error%20Screens hots/itunesstall.png
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/Dani17/iTunes%20Upgrade%20Error%20Screens hots/itunesstall2.png
Once recently while it was stalled, I got this error:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/Dani17/iTunes%20Upgrade%20Error%20Screens hots/applemobiledeviceerror.png
(I should mention, in relation to this error, that I am the only user of the computer on which this is occurring, and I do have admin privileges on it).
Yet after all that, I still get this happy screen:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/Dani17/iTunes%20Upgrade%20Error%20Screens hots/itunescongratsinstalled.png
I click "Finish," only to get these errors:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/Dani17/iTunes%20Upgrade%20Error%20Screens hots/ituneserror3.png
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/Dani17/iTunes%20Upgrade%20Error%20Screens hots/ituneserror4.png
As I've said, I've tried everything. Someone suggested I install QuickTime separately, which I did recently, only to get this error:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/Dani17/iTunes%20Upgrade%20Error%20Screens hots/quicktimeerror.png
And as I said before, trying to do the update via Apple Software Update doesn't help either:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/Dani17/iTunes%20Upgrade%20Error%20Screens hots/ituneserror_applesoftwareupdate-1.png
    What should I do???

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up +en passant.+
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. Do they fail to install? If so, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you?

  • Cannot upgrade iTunes because cannot uninstall itunes 9.0.2.25. Error: The installation source for this product is unavailable. The file c:/... itunes.msi is not a valid installation package for itunes.

I also get the error. "Cannot uninstall the older version of iTunes. Contact your technical support group."
How do I download the itunes.msi for iTunes 9.0.2.25 so that I can remove this phantom and unfunctioning program and then hopefully upgrade to the latest version of iTunes 10.5?
    Thanks for your ideas.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Cannot upgrade my itunes 10 11.1

cannot upgrade my itunes to 11.1

You should not have to download and install iTunes from Apple in order to get the latest version on your Mac.  You should be able to choose Software Update from the Apple () menu.
OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps

Alternatively, you can try and access the update from within iTunes itself by selecting teh Check for Updates menu item.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
I would try manually deleting the folder: C:\ProgramData\34BE82C4-E596-4e99-A191-52C6199EBF69
