Canon 870

I wanna edit some video I shot with my PowerShot SD870 IS (point and shoot camera).
The video is 640x480 at 30fps. I can't find any DV NTSC settings for 640x480 at 30fps in Final Cut Pro. Can anyone tell me how to set up the video preferences for that video.
Thanks

Well it used to ask if I wanted to match the properties of the source material or change the properties of the source material to what FCP was set at. Now it automatically changes to whatever FCP is set at. Do you know where the option is so that it asks me instead of automatically changing to whatever FCP is set at.

    so many questions there.
First, ATV2 is basically a cheaper subset of the original ATV (but with the addition of Netflix). Streaming works the same way, but you can no longer sync your library. So, the ATV2 is stuck, tethered to your Mac/PC.
So, no, the ATV1/2 both support only content from iTunes, you can't stream browser content. For that, you need to hook your computer up to the AV system, either by cable or wirelessly with something like Veebeam.
I haven't used Airport Express, but I believe that also is limited to streaming audio from iTunes.
There are various wireless solutions to stream your music amongst rooms, from Sonos to a Bluetooth dongle for Bose speakers.
    Hope that helps. Good luck.

  • Edit simple home video

Hi. I have a lot of family videos that need to be trimmed. Scenes where the camera is vertical for 10 seconds before it is changed, or staying on one shot too long. I don't to make a movie yet, with several clips, I simply want to trim the clips I have to save storage room. Do I need FCE? Or is there something more simplistic to accomplish what I want to do? Freeware or Shareware? My Canon Elph shoots AVI video. This is what I want to edit, just snip ends or beginnings of a clip. Is there something like a Photoshop, where I can edit and then save and it is saved in the edited form? I am upgrading to Leopard and iLife08 soon. So, I will be working with that system. Thanks for the information. -Tim

I think in answer to your question, it is 640x480 30 fps. Movie: AVI (Image: Motion JPEG; Audio: WAVE [Monaural])

  • Canon Mx 870 can't connect to time capsule

    Hey there,
I'm having some problems connecting my printer, a Canon Pixma Mx 870 with my wireless network, time capsule. The printer finds my network, but after I give in my WPA/WPA2 - personal key the printer displays "Failed to connect to the access point. Check your access point's settings". But I have no idea what to change in the settings... The printer manual says to check 1) if WEP 2,3 or 4 of the access point is in use. 2) To make sure the DHCP function of the access point is active (seems to me this is factory setting of the Time Capsule) and if so then configure settings again, but it doesn't say anything about the configurations. 3) Are you using a access point that automatically creates WEP keys?
Well I sure hope someone can help me out, I have absolutely no idea what settings to change on my time capsule to make my printer connect!
    Gr g

With regards to the printer manual solutions, it won't be 1 as you don't use WEP and I would think that you are using DHCP with the Time Capsule, as this is the default setup, so it won't be 2. And like 1 it won't be 3 as there is no WEP key.
Two things that it could be are
    1. You have entered your WPA2 key incorrectly. Note that keys are case-sensitive so ensure you enter the key as it is displayed in the Aiport Utility config for the Time Capsule.
    2. The Time Capsule is set to 802.11n only. The Canon wireless printers support 802.11b/g but not 802.11n.

  • Canon MX 870 printjob mgr failed for everything

    Hello,
I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard hoping I will then upgrade to Lion. However, now my printer will  not print. It recoginzes that something has been sent to the printer but will not print by saying that printjob mgr failed. Using a flash drive I tried to print the files directly from the printer and it states that the files are too big. It does not matter if the format is .pages, .numbers or .pdf. The same message is displayed for everything.
I uninstalled all the pdf updates and the acrobat but it did not help. I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver for the printer and it did not help. I tried to search for the disk utility repair but could not locate that either(as suggested by a post from 2009). I am now lost. I am not sure what to do. Can someone help me please?
Thank you in advance for your help!

If you haven't done so already, try resetting the printing system.
How to Reset the Printing System
    Open System Preferences > Print & Scan/Fax
Move your mouse over the Printers list
Hold down the Control button and click the mouse
Click the "Reset printing system ..." popup
    Restart your Mac
This will remove your print queues but not your printer drivers. So you will only need to add your printer queues again.

  • TS3147 After installing Mountain Lion, I tried to scan from my Canon MX870 and received the message: "MP Navigator EX quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. A report will be sent to Apple,"

After installing Mountain Lion, I tried to scan from my Canon MX870 and received the message: "MP Navigator EX quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. A report will be sent to Apple,"  This problem happened right after I installed Mountain Lion. I then downloaded Canon's upgraded software and drivers for the MX 870 and the problem was resolved. Now one month later, the problem has returned.

    rjliii wrote:
Solved problem with original Canon software.  When I downloaded Canon software upgraded for OS X 10.8, I got all by Navigator Ex. Noticed that on Canon's site, the upgraded version is 3.1; my app was 2.1. Upgraded to 3.1 for Nav. Ex, and it works.
You should still use Image Capture IMHO.  If it was my gear, that's what I would do.  No need to worry about software upgrades.

  • Canon PIXMA 860 and 560 not recognized by Image Capture

I can scan from the printers to my MacBook. And I go to System Prefernces / Printers and Faxes and both are shown as printers and as scanners. I can open from their and scan but when I open image capture it doesn't find any scanners.
I down loaded and installed both the newest canon printer and scanner drivers as well as the newest ICA driver. Still they are not recognized.
    What am I missing?

Just for testing purposes, I removed the canon printer, removed all canon software and updates from my system and then used the original CD that came with my 870 to reinstall the printer and lo and behold, Image Capture started working again for wireless scanning.
Hello and thanks for the feedback.
There are two scanner drivers available for many of the new models of Canon AIOs. There is the ICA driver and the Canon scanner driver.
During my tests on clean builds of 10.6.x I found that my Canon AIOs were able to print and scan via wireless by simply installing the Canon update provided by Apple. This update consisted of the then latest printer driver for many models of Canon AIO and inkjet and the ICA driver. Canon's scanner driver was not included as part of this download from Apple.
The ICA driver is installed in HD > Library > Image Capture > Devices and the package is called Canon IJScanner1. Later versions of the ICA driver also installed another package, Canon IJScanner2. These ICA drivers provide a minimal amount of scanning selections and only appear to work with Image Capture and Preview. Other applications like Canon's own MP Navigator and Adobe Acrobat Pro will not scan with just the ICA driver installed. The Canon scanner driver for the respective model is required.
From what you have said and from my own testing I propose that the original CD did not contain the ICA driver but the Canon scanner driver for the MX870. And with only this driver installed you were able to scan using Image Capture via the wireless. I don't recall ever testing a 10.6 build where only the Canon scanner driver was installed and not the ICA driver (it is present by default on 10.6 but only has older models of Canon AIO's - your MX870 is not there). Had I tested this I believe that I would have been able to scan via wireless using Image Capture.
I also propose that once you installed the Canon v2.4.1 update, which contains a version of the ICA driver package that is also available from Canon web sites, then Image Capture stopped using the Canon MX870 scanner driver and used the ICA driver instead, thus stopping you from wireless scanning.
Right now I am using a new build of 10.6.6 on my MBPro. So that I could print to my MP990 at home and an MG6150 at work I simply installed the v2.4.1 update and have printer and scanner queues in Print & Fax for both. I have not installed scanner drivers for either device and at home with my MP990 Image Capture does not show any device being available, while Preview does show the MP990 once I select 'Import from Scanner > Include Networked Devices'. Also, Acrobat Pro 9 does not show my MP990 being available.
And with regards to the v2.4.1 update, the drivers included are provided by Canon to Apple, just as the other vendor drivers are provided to Apple, to make life easier for us Mac users. The drivers are available individually and get downloaded and installed automatically when the respective model is connected to the Mac and no local driver is present. As for the package including all these individual vendor drivers, this would be created by Apple.

  • Canon 60DA Won't Power On

I just received my brand new 60DA on Wednesday. I was able to use it, read the manual, get comfortable with it the rest of the evening. That night I hooked it to my scope and using Backyard EOS took it for a run capturing numerous pictures. No issues. When finished, I disconnected from the program, powered off, unplugged and put the body cap cover back on.
The next night, I was not getting any power at all. Thinking the battery may have drained (though it was fully charged during the two hour photo session), I removed it and plugged it into the wall charger. I then inserted the AC adapter. But it still would not power on. The battery was nearly charged as I was getting three flashing lights from the charger.
From what I've read so far some Canon camera's will not power on if there is an issue w/ the memory card or if the lens isn't put on correctly. None of those are issues (the memory card was present both occassions and not used to store images during the session and the camera was mounted to scope using t-ring).
Humidity/Dew was not an issue neither eveninig.
I also read the switch inside the battery housing can sometimes defect though it locks in the battery fine and I see no reason to suspect it isn't operating.
Please someone tell me I didn't get a jacked up camera!!!

An update on the issue as it has happened agian on the replacement (brand new) camera....
The camera was operating fine; I snapped several images of the moon before getting the scope aligned. Towards the end of my moon session I attempted five sequences at different exp/iso settings. Only three images were returned to the program I was using (Backyard EOS).
I did not think anything about it at the time and attempted another run of five shots at different exp/iso settings. Again, only three images were returned. But, not thinkin anything about only getting three out of five, I proceeded to move to a star cluster to have my first attempt at a star field.
The idea was to capture a one-minute exposure. However, as my setting was on M the program instructed me that I needed to change to B (I knew this, just forgot). While the camera was connected to the program, I changed the setting to B. This is when the program stopped responding. I went to check the camera (perhaps battery died). The LCD was on, battery was 3/4 charged. So I went back to the program and told it to connect. It made a long attempt but after several minutes never established a connection.
I then shut down the program and turned the camera off thinking I should reboot. However, when I attempted to turn the camera back on I got no response. Same issue as the last one. The program could not open a connection.
And now I have a second brand new non-working camera.
This is a segment of the program log from when the issues began till I shut down the program. What stands out are the out of memory errors which I would imagine in hindsight is why I never got all five images both occasions. The second is the StateEvent_Shutdown Fired which to my understanding cannot be invoked by the software. Then, after what seems like a potential successful connection at 21:34:13,952, it shows EDS_ERR_MEM_ALLOC_FAILED. I've emphasized (bolded) those points in the log near the end.
Desperately seeking some type of resolution to get my camera back on...

  • Can't find my printer from my MacBookPro. Canon MX870 connected via ethernet to my Airport Base station

I have a MacBookPro3,1. My Canon MX870 is connected to my Airport base station via ethernet. It was working fine until two days ago. I restarted my computer, the printer and the airport and router. Reinstalled the driver for the printer and even reset the airport. Best I can tell it's something with my MacBook. My girlfriend was over yestrday and she has a newer MacBookPro and I can find my printer fine on her MacBookPro but I can't find it at all on mine. I'm at a complete loss. Any thoughts or insight would be greatly appreciated.

I wonder if one of the “printing” plists has become corrupted. Find your preferences file in the library under your user name. Scroll down to the series of printer plists starting with “com.apple.print“. There are a series of them, even one specifically for the mx 870. You can delete a plist with relative impunity as they are rebuilt when you restart your MBP. I would delete 1st the one that has 870 in the name, put it in the trash, but don’t empty the trash,  and restart. If that doesn’t solve the problem you can delete others- like the “print add“ plist or print center plist. Restart after each deletion and see if that solves the problem. You can always drag  the deleted plists out of the trash  and put them back where they came from as long as you don’t empty the trash.
    Good Luck!

  • Problems installing my Canon MX870 on my Mac

I just bought a Canon MX 870 and i haven't be able to set up a wireless conection to my Mac Pro. When i tried to set up with the Canon IJ Network tool.... this message appears:
The printer could not be detected. Please confirm the following:
    - The network settings are correct.
    - The printer is turned on.
    - The printer is not used from another computer.
I have been trying other solutions that i found in other topics but iit didn't work
    HELP PLEASE!

    Hello, Laguaji. Two things:
1/ We just finally burned out a Canon Pixma MP something-or-other, which was years old, and was supposed to run on Windows and on Macs. However, we found when we tried to make that happen that it could only run on +one or the other+! Canon tech support had been very responsive by email, but I still chastised them for over-enthusiastic advertising. (I think they got over it.) Whether that still applies or not I have no idea. But the explanation +at the time+ was that the printer itself self-configured differently depending on whether it was set up for Windows or for Mac OS X, and could not be configured for both.
2/ I replaced my old Canon with a Pixma MX 870, and it is wonderful (after one day). We're an "all-Mac" household now so cannot test my old PC vs. Mac issue. Anyway, installing the software from CD, we get to the Canon IJ Network Tool, and eventually it tries to locate the printer - and failed to do so, repeatedly. I could easily see on the Airport Utility that the printer's wireless setup had worked and it had an IP. I could even tell that the System Preferences' Printer and Fax pane's "+" button could detect the printer. But the IJ Network Tool could not. The operator's manual directed me here and there and I tried what I could but what do I know about IP filters, etc., and finally I just tried what I found around here somewhere, and added it from Printer and Fax. That worked perfectly. Then, to access it from my wife's MacBook, we had to use the CD again, and - this time the IJ Network Tool found the printer right away. That enabled us to "register" (whatever that means), etc., although not on the "primary" computer. Then I went through the same with my MacBook and the "find printer" part of the installation never even appeared. The installation program just skipped it, and was done.
So, that's all just weird, and none of that appears in the "multiple computers" section of the installation guide, but *testing so far with printing, faxing, copying and scanning from multiple computers is working fine*.
(By the way, we had replaced the old Canon with an HP Officejet 8500 910, and it was horrible. It kept locking up and needing to be rebooted [and then did a Gates-style "always turn off with power button" message, whereas whatever it did to itself it did to itself], and the wireless connection was not stable ... after days of this and three tech-support calls, I returned it for a no-argument refund at Staples and got the Canon. I understand that the HP Officejet 8500s have done that to lots of other people, judging by the many, many such forum threads around the Net on that subject. The Canon took too long to install because of the "not detected" message, and the many steps I took to work through that, but at least it seems to be working.)
I tried to run Canon's Speed Dial Utility just now on my iMac, and the printer was again "not detected" ... sheesh!

  • Canon MX870

The other day I could no longer print wirelessly on my Canon MX 870.  I have had this printer for quite some time and had no issues.  I can print if connected via USB, but I cannot do so now wirelessly.  I have use their network tool, tried to add the printer (it does not show up) and have reloaded/update Canon software.  It appears this inabilty to print wirelessly happened when I updated using Apple's App update recently.  They had a Canon printer update which I believe has impeded the ability to print wirelessly.  I have seen other posts but don't believe any address this Apple update issue.  This stated, if anyone has a work around or fix, I would appreciate it.  I have family members on the network that are also impacted.  TIA.

Updating the drivers should not have impacted your ability to see the printer via wireless. The MX870 should still be visible, even without any drivers installed.
The first suggestion is to check if the Mac can see the MX870 using the Bonjour protocol. The scanner component of the device uses this protocol, so when you select to "Add" via Print & Scan, you typically see two devices - the MX870 printer and the MX870 scanner.
To check for devices on your network using Bonjour you can use Safari. With the browser open, you will need to enable the Bonjour view. To do this, open Safari > Preferences  and select Bookmarks. Then enable Bonjour for the Bookmarks view. This will make the Bonjour bookmark appear on the Bookmarks bar. Select this and the MX870 should be listed under the Bookmark. Do you see it? If you do see it, select it. This will connect you to the internal web page of the MX870 and confirms that the Mac and MX870 are connected to the same network.
If you don't see the MX870 then check the network settings in the MX. If they are correct for you network, try turning off the MX for a minute and then back on again. Now try the Safari test again.
When the device is visible in Safari then it should also be visible in the Add printer browser. So if you open Print & Scan and click the plus button, does the MX now appear in the Add printer window?
