  • Upgrading from 2007 to 2012 - Restoration of 2007 Storage

We are in the process of revieiwing the upgrade process. Our main concern is the ability to use DPM 2012 to restore Backups that were created on DPM 2012.
Is the restoration process supported by DPM2012.
Thank you in advance for your answer.

    Hi,
As long as you are upgrading along the way, then recovery points made on DPM 2007 will be available for restore on DPM 2012.
The proper steps to upgrade from DPM 2007 to DPM 2012 are as follows:
    a) Patch SCDPM 2007 to newest patch level. (kb2250436)
    b) Save copy of DPM2007 SQL database (dpmbackup -db) - copy to network share.
    c) Un-install DPM 2007 - then Upgrade OS Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 - then to Windows 2008 R2.
Upgrading a DPM Server to Windows Server 2008
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd637098.aspx
    d) Install DPM2007 and install latest patch level. (kb2250436)
    e) Copy saved DPM 2007 DPMDB to local drive, then restore DPM 2007 DPMDB.
         (dpmsync -restoredb -dbloc c:\msdpm.bak)
         (dpmsync -sync)
    f) Upgrade SCDPM 2007 to DPM 2010 (Which automatcally included SQL upgrade)
    g) Patch SCDPM 2010 to newest update UR7 (kb2751231)
    h) Update the Agents to DPM 2010 agents
    I) Upgrade SCDPM 2010 to SCDPM 2012.
    j) Install latest DPM 2012 update UR3 (KB2756127)
    k) update the agents to DPM 2012 agents.
    L) Run CC on all data sources.

  • Upgrading from SBS2008 to 2012 Essentials

I'm upgrading from SBS2008 to 2012 Essentials.  I understand that Essentials does not include everything that SBS did (Exchange, DC, DHCP, AD, DNS, SharePoint Companyweb, etc), so I'm guessing that I will need multiple servers.  I'm trying
to figure out how to apportion and configure my overall system.
I have seen posts that indicate a recommendation to set up 2012 Standard R2 on the 1st physical server with Essentials R2 on a virtual server.  And then using other virtual servers for other functions.  Why would I do that?  I don't understand
all the advantages and disadvantages of how to set up the various functions.  Should I put Exchange server on a totally different physical machine, a server #2?
My number 1 server is a HP Proliant DL160 with dual quad core, 24GB ram and hardware RAID.  What would you think would be best to install on that server and what would you put on another server?
    skb

yeah...Windows Server 2012 Essentials no longer contains a built-in email service. However, it supports multiple email options that include Office 365, an on-premises server running Exchange
Server, and third-party hosted email services. If use on-premises server running Exchange Server, we do support running Exchange Server on a second server.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2012/07/26/email-options-supported-by-windows-server-2012-essentials.aspx
    -->DC, DHCP, AD, DNS
you can normally transfer those roles, services and configure.
    -->sharepoint
    general similar steps...http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg616007.aspx
in theory, can host Exchange server and sharepoint on one same windows server in physical machine...

    Regards,
    RD

    Hi,
Ok i solved the Schedule.aspx issue: each user had to just simply change the view once they logged for the first time , refresh the page.
I am still facing the issue of some projects not opening in Project Pro 2013: one thing i figured out is that these projects have mandatory fields that are empty: the fields were added after projects were created.
Any idea how i can solve this ?
    Thx
    RD
    Hi RD,
i have also done a Migration from Project 2007 to 2013, i have the same issue with the Schedule.aspx.
Is there a way to solve the issue without to change the view for each user. We have 200+ users.
    thx tom

  • Registry keys after SharePoint Upgrade from 2007 to 2010

    Hi,
I'm working on a SharePoint Server 2010 Farm, where it has been upgraded from 2007, actually I don't have enough information about the history of this upgrade, but
it seems it was an in-place upgrade, and the 12 Hive folder is still there.
Looking at the Windows Registry, I found that Registry Entries for 2007 version is still there: ([HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared
Tools\Web Server Extensions\12.0] ), one of those entries is named "SharePoint" and its value is "Installed".
    Is this a normal situation?
We are trying to install an antivirus for SharePoint but the installation is keep failing the vendor is claiming that this is the issue (2007 registry entries), and
that the upgrade have not been done successfully.
The SharePoint 2010 farm is running perfectly, and I have ran a "LocalUpgradeStatus" command on one of the servers, the output is with no issues.
I have checked below pages and everything is normal:
Check product and patch installation status
    Review database status
    Check upgrade status
Any thoughts? is it normal to have such old registry entries in place? shall I just clean them?
What do you recommend in such situation?
    Hamza AlSughier

    Hi Hamza,
It should be in-place upgrade for your environment, here is a workaround per the following similar post, please confirm with antivirus vendor if the 12 registry files and 12 hive cause this issue, if yes, then backup the 12 registry files and 12 hive, then
after you installed the antivirus successfully you can add the keys back.
Note, Please fully test in your testing environment firstly before touching the production, and production also needs to be fully backed up.

  • Driver and Driver Package migration from 2007 to 2012 R2 query

    Dear Team,
I am in the process of migrating the drivers and DriverPackage from SCCM2007 to CM2012 . I am following the below steps and also i am getting below warning message while doing Driver migration.
    1) Copied all the driver source path from SCCM2007 to 2012 folders and shared the same.
    2) By using migration Utility , i have migrated all the drivers from 2007 to 2012 .
    3) After the migration i have changed the dirver source path at CM2012 side pointing to new CM12 driver source path.
    4) I have started the DriverPackage migration.
    5) After the DriverPackage migration , i have changed to DriverPackage Source path at CM12 side pointing to new CM12 dirverpackage source.
Please help me my steps and procedure and suggest if anything i need to do extra .....
    My question and observation :
    1) During the driver migration , i got a warning message like . Some drivers not able to migrate due to unsupported by CM2012 .
        a) Is there any way i can find unsupported model drivers before or after the migration
        b) Is there any other process to migrate Unsupported drivers from 2007 to 2012 other than manual import or script basis
    2) After the DriverPackage migration and after the change in the DriverPackage source path. I am not seeing any folder creating in DriverPackage new source path (I understood the reason).
       a) Is there any way i can recreate those folders in new source path after the DriverPackage Migration ?
       b) What is the best process for the DriverPacakge migration from 2007 to 2012 regarding the SourcePath.
    Thanks in advance....

  • Upgrade from Windows Server 2012 Active Directory to Windows Server 2012 R2 Active Directory

We are currently running Windows Server 2012 Active Directory and would like to upgrade to Windows Server 2012 R2 AD. Is it OK to just do an in-place upgrade, or is it advisable to build new domain controllers on R2? Are there any guides or articles anyone
    can recommend?

    Hi Ginandtonic,
To upgrade DC(Domain Controller) from windows server 2012 to windows server 2012 r2, please refer to these articles:

  • I can not upgrade from 10.2 to 10.6 because of missing "itunes.msi" file.  How do I repair it? I can not remove itunes and start over.

I can not upgrade from 10.2 to 10.6 because of missing "itunes.msi" file.  I can not delete ITunes and start over either.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • What happened to my User folder? Now there is a default.migrated folder instead. I did not upgrade from W7. Always had W8.

Is my User folder gone? I have no idea what happened to it. Is it possible that a virus has redirected the folder or has placed it somewhere else for access? I have not upgraded from W7.  W8 is the factory installed OS on my system. Any thoughts on
    what happened?

  • Expiration date not displaying after upgrade from 2007 to 2013

I recently upgraded from MOSS 2007 to 2013.  I have information management set up on a library of InfoPath forms.  For the forms that were created prior to the upgrade, the expiration date is displaying and actually get updated if I modify them.
But none of my forms that have been created after the upgrade, are displaying when the expiration date is, which should be one year from modify date.  If I modify the forms created prior to the upgrade, they reflect the new, update date.
Are these new forms not getting the policy applied to them, and why not?  I am not sure why the older forms are getting updated, but not my new ones.
    Denise E.

    Hi Denise,
According to your description, my understanding is that the Expiration date column was not displaying values after upgrading from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2013.
Per my knowledge, we can only use the date column which is added to the library or list or the Declared Recorded date to set the retention policy, so if the Expiration date is used in the retention policy then the Expiration date should be a column in the
    library or list.
I recommend to check the retention policy in the library and see which column is used in the retention policy as the image below shows:
After that, go to the Library settings to find this column.
Could you please provide screenshots of the retention policy and the columns in the Library settings page?
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • Upgrade from 2007 to 8.8, upgrade wizard will not accept correct password

Hi, I'm trying to upgrade several databases from 2007 to 8.8 SP00 PL17
I have been successful in several. But I have one database where, in the upgrade Wizard, despite the fact that I am putting in the correct username and password, the status will not change from "Not Ready" to "Ready"
I have tried two different super-users, including manager.
I know the passwords are correct, because when i try to log onto that database in SAP, if I deliberately put in a wrong username/password, it tells me the username/password is incorrect. If i put in the correct username/password, it tells me I need to upgrade.
But if i use that same username/password combo in the Upgrade Wizard, the status stays at "Not Ready" and as I have said, I've already upgraded several databases successfully, so i don't think its an environment issue.
    Suggestions?

I figured it out. I tried to detach the database in SQL and saw there was an active connection to the database from WITHIN SQL. I killed the connection and the upgrade wizard took the password no problem.

  • "Migrating" computer variables from 2007 to 2012

I'm in the process of migrating server clients from a 2007 to 2012 environment. The computer objects all have quite a few computer variables associated with the objects that are used during OSD task sequences.
When we do a "bare-metal" build, the computer objects are deleted and recreated, and the variables are re-populated from a reference source of truth on the new object. So no problem there.
For the migration though, I was going to install the CM2012 client (basically upgrade the client from 2007) on the servers which will then have them register with the CM2012 site. However when this happens the variables won't be applied to the 2012
    computer object.
I have a few ideas to resolve this, but was wondering if anyone else had already dealt with this situation?
    Some thoughts I was considering:
1: Orchestrator job that identifies "new" computer objects in 2012 and regenerates the variables from the source of truth
    2. Powershell/WMI/VBScript that reads the variables from the 2007 computer object and "copies" them to the 2012 object
Any other thoughts or suggestions welcome
    Scott.

Thanks Torsten, I do appreciate the replies, but I will have to respectfully disagree with the question being answered perfectly.
I had asked "...was wondering if anyone else had already dealt with this situation?". I don't actually see how an answer of "I've never done this, but use powershell" is the perfect answer. This would also not serve to help any other
people that might come across this post looking for a similar solution.  I had marked that post as "helpful", but did not "mark as answer" because it didn't actually offer anything beyond what my first post already stated.
However, I'm not looking to argue. I'll post any powershell scripts or other things I end up using to help anyone else who comes across this post. There are far too many posts in the TechNet forums that just seem to get automatically closed as answered
when there is no real answer provided.

  • Upgrading from SQL Server 2012 Standard to SQL Server 2014 Standard Failover Cluster

Goal: To upgrade my default instance from SQL Server 2012 to SQL Server 2014 in a failover cluster.
    Given:
    1) Operating System Windows 2012 R2
    2) 2 Virtual Machines in a cluster with SQL Server as a Guest Cluster resource.  The two VMS are called APPS08 and APPS09.  They are our development environment that is setup similar to our production environment.
Problem:  When running the SQL Server 2014 upgrade, I started on the VM that was not running the instance.  I then moved onto upgrading on the node that was running the instance.  As soon as the install attempt to failover the running instance
an install error occurred that it could not failover.  After many install attempts I consistently received the error
The SQL Server Failover cluster instance name 'Dev01'
already exists as a cluster resource.  Opening Failover cluster manager there is no record of a DEV01.
New Strategy:  Create a SQLCluster called DEV07.  At the end of the Install I get 'Resource for instance 'MSSQLSERVER' should not exists.  Neither I nor my Windows 2012 guy understand what Resource the install may be referring to.
We do not see anything out of the ordinary.
Any suggestions as to what Resource may be seeing the default instance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi PSCSQLDBA,
As your description, you want to upgrade the default instance in SQL Server cluster.
    >> 'SQL Server failover cluster instance name 'Dev01' already exists as cluster resource'
This error could occur when there is a previously used instance name which may not be removed completely.
To work around the issue, please use one of the ways below.
    1. At command prompt, type Cluster res. This command will list you all the resources including orphan resources. To delete the orphan resource, type Cluster res <resource name>/delete.
For more information about the process, please refer to the article:
    http://gemanjyothisqlserver.blogspot.in/2012/12/sql-2008r22012-cluster-installation.html
    2. Delete DNS entries, and force a replication of DNS to the other DNS servers.
For more information about the process, please refer to the article:
    http://jon.netdork.net/2011/06/07/failed-cluster-install-and-name-already-exists/#solution
    >> 'Resource for instance 'MSSQLSERVER' should not exist'
This error could occur when you already have MSSQLSERVER as a resource in the cluster, which may not be removed completely. To work around the issue, you could rebuild the SQL Server cluster node.

    Michelle Li
