Coldfusion Error Really Bugging Me

I am hosted by HOSTMYSITE and the other day i found out that
they were using the old built in JDBC driver for connecting to
MySql5 and as we know it doesnt work that well. So i told them and
after alot of messages they created a new DSN using this new driver
and every now and then i get this error. Now when i call querys and
etc i gte this error. Its kind of driving me mad!!

I recently had a batch of broken pipe errors as well, and
here is what I found and how the issue was resolved. A broken pipe
error means that the socket is being closed by the network before
the handshake to the database is completed and/or re-established
(if you're using a jdbc pool). On our network, the cause was a bad
path to the database in the hosts file on the webservers. The only
reason any connections made it through at all initially was because
the database had a routing to the network where the webservers were
searching for the database.
If you're working with a hosting service, you may have a hard
time getting this type of issue resolved, but I thought I'd pass
along my findings. Good luck.

HT3576 I have many apps where i must swipe down and it constantly brings down the notification screen. Is there anyway to disable this or activate it a different way because this really bugs me.

I don't have that problem. Perhaps I touch the screen lower when I wipe down? I don't know for sure but there's got to be some difference in the way that we wipe down. you might wish to do some experimenting.

IIRC this can be down to browser security setting. You may find you needs to turn some security options on (or at least set to 'prompt' under tools- > internet settings -> secuirty - > custom level... etc

Endless "Stream Overlap" Error Loop Bug Crashes Encore.
This is the 4 th time I have reproduced the bug.
I burn a Disk image .. and upon completion the "Disk Info" resets to zero bytes under the Build Menu and when checking the Timelines Window the Dialog Box pops up with the "Stream Overlap" Error.
Has anyone else had this issue?
I have read other forum post .. and there is nothing relevant.
I had to rebuild the project twice from scratch.
I'm waiting for my Master Collection 5.5 .. maybe it is fixed in it.

NOTE: There is a issue with Premiere Pro Dynamically Linking with After Effects with file corrupting I am experiencing as well.
Someone offered a solution to rename my files to just words. ( No numbers or other characters )
It still crashes .. and there is still file corruption ... but a "Linked Composition" can be found by "Edit Original" .. whereas it was not found before I changed the filename.
This is a beginning to find the source of the nested bugs.
I am wondering if this filesystem problem is core to the "Stream Overlap" problem noted here.
I have have not reached tech support on the Encore side of this problems as of yet.

I have had two Adobe users mention a file system problem that has been known.
Maybe it is the cause of my issues? ... Adobe is mixing two incompatible filesystems on a root level on the Mac platform only. ( Doesn't work with the Mac Finder? )

Fix for error reporting bug. The bug was caused by a warning being
reported during one compilation and then an error being reported in
a following compilation. Due to the warning, the Source's logger
was disconnected instead of being nulled out during the first
compilation. Then in the second compilation, we weren't reassigning
the logger, so the disconnected logger was being left in place. As
a result, it was throwing off expected error counts and caused an
assert to fire.
QE notes: There is probably an easier way to reproduce the assertion
          that George hit without having to create multiple projects
          and without having to manually copy SWC's around. I didn't
          realize this until I had a fix, though. One key aspect that
          George didn't note and might not have realized, is that the
          variable needs to cause a warning, so leaving off a
          namespace works, but making it public, private, etc doesn't.

Error #1037 Bug Report, Flash Builder 4.6

I tried reporting this bug through the proper channels, but the link on the page at https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform for filing Flash Builder bugs is not working. The page it links to is "taking too long to respond".
I'm using Flash Builder 4.6, and I'm getting error #1037. According to the documentation at http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/runtimeErrors.html, this isn't something that should be happening, and when the programmer doesn't believe the swf has been corrupted, Adobe has requested that they report it. Even though I feel something like this always justifies the word "corrupted", I don't believe it's been corrupted in this strict of a sense; I'm just building the swf in Flash Builder. The project itself is fairly simple and doesn't have any out-of-the way configurations.
Take the following line of code in the start class:

The line of code in the starting class is what's throwing the error. If I comment that line of code out, the error goes away. If I simply make m_fOnBWDone a public variable, delete the setter, and set the variable's value directly in the starting class, that works too. But if I try to make it private and then use a trivial public property to set it like that, the error is raised.

The docs say it could be a few things, just one of which is the corrupt portion.
You shouldn't have a method and property with the same name either. In any get/set situation for a private value your private value is typically prefaced just to avoid the collision with the public get/set. For the same reason, colliding, methods and properties should be unique and I am also confused as to how it compiled (although FB just warns you there's an issue and still allows you to proceed).
What you're doing there appears to be highly dynamic, so I really can't say what kind of method names you're assigning with pValue. Nor can the compiler until you send 2 different functions with the same name there and it errors on you. Only you know what functions are being assigned in there, or what you do with it after that.

Coldfusion Error catching (cftry cfcatch) best practice question...

I wanted to get a couple of opinions about this. Obviously I want to catch any and all errors that hit my server and avoid exposures to my end users, but I didnt know what the most efficient way of doing such was. Does it make sense to put a cftry cfcatch around the entirety of my code on every page? (I use a lot of embeds...cfinclude) Or is that too broad? How does that effect performance? Is there another way to auto catch and email all errors and then show the user a custom error page? I searched around, but I got bits and pieces based on specific requests...not really any "best practice" tips. Any suggestions would be fantastic.

There are no real best practices as such, as it's largely down to your application. The only real "standard" is the onError() method in Application.cfc, which will handle any Exceptions which make their way to it - i.e. any that are not caught by an explicit try/catch block.
When considering what you are now, I consider this: where do I want to display an error? How far down the line does it matter? There's no right or wrong answer, it's down to you.
Say you're displaying a page, which is made up of ten includes. If there's an error in one, do you want the other nine displayed, or do you want the whole page to error? If it's the former, wrap each one in its own try/catch. If it's nonsensical to do so, just let the page throw an Exception to get picked up by your Application.onError() method.
It also depends largely on whether or not an error is "recoverable" - is it of any use telling someone that a small but important part of the page failed becuase of a database issue? Probably not. There's nothing they can do about it, so just throw an error and let your error template sort it out.
It also depends on the context in which the page is being called - if it's an Application with users, you can display an error page with as much or as little information as you want. If it's a remote CFC call, however, it's extremely annoying for the remote developer to just get useless ColdFusion exceptions. Therefore I would always wrap every remote CFC method in its own try/catch, so if something goes wrong you can still return them something useful - even a "false" is better sometimes than an exception. You can then do what you like within the catch block - send you an email, log to disk, whatever.
Just a few thoughts, haven't proof read them though so expect massive, glaring mistakes and poor advice.

Firefox 14.0.1 has a spell checking error./ bug in the code

I just had all my machines update to 14.0.1 (WIN XP SP3)
I had a clean boot right before the update occurred.
This is the first time I had used this version on this machine.
When the program came up, I had no access to the spell checker at all. Nothing I did could change this (checking and un-checking the feature in the right click menu.
So, I selected the option of restarting the browser in "SAFE MODE" with no add-ons. There was no change at all (still no spell checking)
So, I went to this site, made an account, activated the count (this entire time FIREFOX had no spell checking) and I created a report.
I was most of the way done writing the report when suddenly the spell checking started to work. I made no changes to the settings, when suddenly I had spell checking working.
This means there is an intermittent error;p often the hardest to find from my 20+ years of programming experience (Senior IT contractor)..
So, have find finding this one. Intermittent bugs are the hardest to track, and tend to come from issues like scope issues, settings stored in files/registry, overly convoluted code (like a rush job that isn't fully understood & was just hammered on until it seemed to work). From my experience it often happens in the last steps of finishing a release - accidentally introducing a bug into what was a working section of code (unexpected ramification are a suspect) into a previously working program piece of a program.

Dreamweaver CS3 and Coldfusion Errors

is anyone experiencing errors when using the coldfusion
inbuilt tools within dreamweaver cs3? I am getting errors when
using the insert record server beahaviour. Also i have noticed that
some sql code is not genrated correctly within cs3. This was not as
a problem in versions MX and 8.

Sdo_util.simplify - Error? Bug? Totally stumped !

Hi folks,
I have a confusing problem/error with using sdo_util.simplify. I am using Oracle 11G R2 with Spatial Option.
I have loaded just over 2000 UK postown polygons - based on an OS source. These loaded fine and have been working perfectly well with spatial sql.
The source data specifies the projection as British National Grid GCS_OSGB_1936 and the SRID within the Oracle metadata was correctly (i believe) determined (by calculate mbr) and set to 7405 - OSGB36 / British National Grid
I can view the polygons perfectly fine in SqlDeveloper/GeoRaptor and if export them to KML and view them in Google Earth they position and display exactly as I would expect.
All other spatial functions I have tried on the polygons work fine.
The problem comes when I try and use sdo_util.simplify to reduce the number of co-ordinates used on the polygons :

I've tried various threshold and tolerance values ( the only threshold value that works is 0 which returns the same geometry.
I have successfully used the sdo_util.simpify functions on the other spatial objects in the database so I don't believe it to be a database setup issue.
When I run a validate geometry on the table for the geometry column I get the ORA-13029: Invalid SRID in the SDO_GEOMETRY object.
However, as explained above the SRID was selected and checked using calculate MBR and it matches exactly what I would have expected given the source data and i have not found any other issues with the SRID.
The error can be reproduced without any of the source tables by just taking one small polygon definition as follows:

dualThe error indicates that SRID 7405 "is invalid" which is not really all that informative. As you note above 7405 exists in MDSYS but its marked as a COMPOUND CRS which to keep it simple is a 3D CRS.

Thus "invalid" in this context means the SRID is invalid for the geometry you are putting it upon.

dualSo long-winded way to reiterate what Ivan said - you are using the wrong SRID. 10g was more forgiving than 11g when mixing and matching 3D and 2D SRIDs with data. 11g is more picky but not always that great at explaining the pickiness. I would bet if you had got back an error such as "2D coordinates not valid with 3D SRID" you would never have needed to post the question. I would suggest putting in an enhancement request to Support for some better error messages.

Flex and Coldfusion error handling

Hello! I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction regarding error handling in a Flex app thats using an HTTPSERVICE RPC to a Coldfusion component.
If a user is entering form data in Flex and clicks submit... the data is sent via the HTTPSERVICE send method as XML to the CFC. But what if there is a Coldfusion SQL insert statement error? Say a user enters a character in a number field (now i know the best thing to do would be to have actionscript ensure that the values entered are numbers but lets keep that aside just for this example). How could I alert the user to let them know the CFC encountered a SQL error? Or better yet... alert them that everything went "A" ok and their data was successfully submitted.
I originally thought to put CFTRY and CFCATCH around the CFC code. I could do that fine, but had trouble passing back a message string so that FLEX could use it in an Alert.Show window.

Sorry after I posted I thought "this may be a question for CF guys as well".
I definitely use and love RemoteObjects. Its great for binding to datagrids and to run SQL to return data from the server back to Flex. I've struggled with successfully passing variables from Flex to CF using RemoteObject though. Say a dataform with 5 text fields & 2 combo box dropdowns.

SOA Suite 11g Clustering error/oracle bug ?

Hi, i got several experiment to implement soa suite 11g clustering, in my company.. at this moment we still use development mode in our application server. now i'm trying to get into production and also i want cluster the server.. here is the chronology what i do.
i got 3 server :
my plan is
server #1 become an proxy server, let say the name is soa_proxy
server #2 become an cluster node, let say the name is soa_server1
server #3 become an cluster node, let say the name is soa_server2
so i start install & configure it (applications is running under Windows Server 2003)
1.*soa_proxy*
- Installing WebLogic server
- Installing SOA
- Create Repository with RCU (oracle 10g database)
2.*soa_server1*
- Installing WebLogic server
- Installing SOA
3.*soa_server2*
- Installing WebLogic server
- Installing SOA
after installation finished, then i create domain in soa_proxy server let say it name 'MyDomain', then i assign the soa_server1 and soa_server2 in cluster node named 'MyCluster', also i assign the soa_proxy server as a HTTP Proxy Server.. i'm following the instructions just like this link Link: [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/doc.1111/e13925/config_screens.htm#CJAEABGD]
all the installation seems good, but when i try to deploy my composite application into the proxy server 'soa_proxy' with JDev, i got error like this

and when i go to Http://hostname:7001/em
i just see my composite deployed only in 'soa_server2'.
UPDATE : well, now the error was gone when deploying. but we still got little odd result,
when i deploy with jdev, it still fine, until i go to the enterprise manager. yess still.. my composite only deplyed in 'soa_server1'. i got some reference that we can copy the domain directory in soa_proxy and then paste into the server that not yet been deployed before. its seems oke..
i've been thinking, how if i got 10 node of cluster? 50 node of cluster ? should i copy the directory just like that ?? is there another charmed way to do it???
can somebody help me with this simple case?

here is my last trial to deploy the cluster environment, then i just got the same issues, our team here think thats the issues causing by oracle bug in code behind. for reminder what i do last experiment
1. we deploy/configure the domain (admin console,cluster node) then starting up all the services smoothly without no issues & as we saw in the console monitor we can see the cluster is syncronizing.
2. then we create simple composite.
3. we try to deploy the composite to the cluster domain, and what we got is the composite only deployed in one cluster node.
let me describe to clear it,
* first trial, when we deploy the composite, here is what we got in em console
*[-] SoaInfra (SoaServer1)*
[+] CompositeLabTest
*[-] SoaInfra (SoaServer2)*
in JDev we also saw this message (the project CompositeLabTest Deploy Process is skipped), some kind like that
* second time trial, we try to shut the SoaServer2 down, then restart it, what we got in em console
*[-] SoaInfra (SoaServer1)*
[+] CompositeLabTest
*[-] SoaInfra (SoaServer2)*
[+] CompositeLabTest
. so until today my soa suite 11g clustering experience is never going good practice.. any of you may had experience with clustering too, how that can be done? please respon...

Me too I have a similar problem with cluster deployment.
I have two different domains in two different phisical machine on the same LAN.
These domains are equals and the sole difference is regarding the IP configuration:
domain 1
machine 172.0.0.1
soaadmin 172.0.0.1
soa1 172.0.0.2
soa1 172.0.0.3
domain 2
machine 172.0.1.1
soaadmin 172.0.1.1
soa1 172.0.1.2
soa1 172.0.1.3
When I try to deploy a new composite from the EM this fails (it remains in waiting for a response like the followed)

What I checked:
In multicast configuration soa1 (domain1) sent the request to all soa servers in the LAN (even in that one that aren't configurated in his domain)
In unicast configuration soa1 (domain1) sent the request only to the soa2 (domain1) server but it remain in waiting for a response for all the time.
What it is strange is that if I stop the domain2 the request can be performed and my composite is deployed in both the servers.
Any idea about this strange behaviour?
N.B.
I'm not using Coherence.
