Communication betwen portlets and remote portlets

Hello,
How can I pass parameters to remote portlet from local portlet?
For example, I add a remote portlet to the portla, some of the parameters set in the JSP portlets must be retrieval from the remote portlet, how to pass them to the remote portlet ?
HttpSession ?
HttpRequest ?
RenderRequest ?

There are two ways to do this (a) Inter-portlet communication, or (b)
Custom data transfer. Check edocs for more info.

  • Portlets and Remote Scripting

My questions center around whether Portlets that adhere to the WSRP or JSR 168 specifications can also employ technologies like remote scripting without causing the Portal to rebuild the entire page. I've already had some discussion with the JSR-168 group and it seems that JSR-168 and Remote Scripting don't play well together. However, I haven't received a fully satisfactory response from the Sun folks and am hoping the Plumtree Portlet folks can shed some light on this issue.
I'm using the term "remote scripting" in the broadest possible sense to include technologies where a sub-section of a markup fragment (<span> or <div>) is dynamically updated via an asynchronous, background call to the server.
The point of "remote scripting" is to avoid reloading the entire Web page in order to provide a richer user experience than a typical Web page. This is the technology behind the "rich internet application" movement a la Macromedia, Laszlo Systems, etc. where single-page experience is the foundation.
I have two specific examples of Remote Scripting in mind:
    a) JavaScript remote scripting (JSRS) is a JavaScript framework that uses a hidden IFRAME embedded into the Portlet markup fragment to make asynchronous calls to the server to dynamically update sections of the Portlet without reloading the entire Portlet. Briefly, JSRS works as follows: 1. JSRS uses a hidden IFRAME to make background calls to the Server 2. JSRS sets the URL for the IFRAME's src to invoke a Servlet; updating the SRC in JavaScript triggers a call to the Server. 3. The response written by the Servlet is just HTML that uses an onLoad JavaScript event handler to callback into the JSRS framework 4. The onLoad event is fired when the browser loads the new page for the hidden IFRAME, this triggers the JSRS callback mechanism that allows my Portlet to update a section (using a SPAN or DIV) on the Portlet in a dynamic, asynchronous manner. (see Brent Ashley's JSRS site: www.ashleyit.com/rs)
    b) Flash Remoting. If my Portlet is a Flash Movie (the HTML fragment generated by the Portlet uses a Object/Embed tags to include an SWF), then the Flash Movie could use an XMLSocket object in ActionScript or the Flash Remoting API to talk to a Web service to dynamically update sub-sections of the Portlet, such as dynamically populating a ListBox in response to some user action.
    I have three (3) questions:
    1) From a cursory reading of the JSR-168 specification, it seems that all action-oriented URLs embedded in a Portlet must be Action URLs that have been re-written by the Portlet Container to force all traffic from Portlets back through the container. Is this a true statement?
In other words, is a Portlet allowed to make any server requests that do not use a re-written Action/Render URL? For example, POST to a Servlet running in another Web application in the same WebLogic instance? I understand there are single sign-on issues that need to be addressed, but assuming you configure the application server so that security credentials propagate from the Portlet to this other Servlet, can you do this?
    2) Is there a way to update sub-sections of a Portlet without having the Portlet Container reload the entire page? In other words, does the JSR-168 specification have any provisions for using remote scripting inside a Portlet?
My sense is that the two techologies "standard portlets (JSR-168 or WSRP)" and "remote scripting" are incompatible at this time. This is a shame because it means that providing a rich Internet application experience in a portal will require developer's to abandon these specifications in favor or Portal Server specific approaches.
    3) Lastly, does Plumtree have a solution to address this problem--i.e. if I build a Plumtree specific Portlet using your SDK, can I use remote scripting?

    A few issues:
    1. The idea of remote scripting runs counter to the idea of processAction. That is, processAction is blocking and expects other portlets on the same page to redraw after processAction is completed for the target portlet. Remote scripting means refreshing in place with no impact on other portlets. So it's difficult to see how remote scripting could be integrated into the specification.
    See PLT.5.2.4:
If the client request is triggered by an action URL, the portal/portlet-container must first
trigger the action request by invoking the processAction method of the targeted
portlet. The portal/portlet-container must wait until the action request finishes. Then, the
portal/portlet-container must trigger the render request by invoking the render method
for all the portlets in the portal page with the possible exception of portlets for which
their content is being cached. The render requests may be executed sequentially or in
    parallel without any guaranteed order.
    2. Plumtree specifically does not use the servlet container for the values of getRemoteUser() and isUserInRole(). This is because:
    (a) our users expect to get the authenticated Plumtree user.
    (b) The ways that users can be authenticated in a servlet container is specific to that vendor and version. For example, Tomcat returns whether the user is authenticated as well as the roles when the user logs in. BEA sets the roles in a weblogic.xml file. In other words, there is no uniform api for all servlet container vendors at this time. As a result, many web application authors will use their own mechanism (e.g. authenticate against LDAP), rather than release multiple versions of their product for each app server and version.
    3. To reference another servlet, make sure that the url to the servlet is in the gateway space, and then use the EDK to get the remote user name. This will return the same value as getRemoteUser in the jsr-168 portlet. If you just call getRemoteUser() on the servlet, it will return null, as we did not authenticate against the servlet application, we authenticated against the portal.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to change the UI of Community Links portlet

In WCI 10gR3, how could I change the UI of the Community Links portlet? Basically, I do not want the community icons next to my to-be-linked Community Pages list; All I want is just a heading like Quick Links and the links below.

I would like to add another question about the Community Links portlet; is it possible to modify it so that it can have indentation (ie: categories/subcategories, like a bullet list)? Is there some other portlet available that would allow links to have some kind of categorization rather than appear only non-hierarchically?

  • Default size of new browser window launched from community links portlet

Does anyone know of a way to control the size of the new browser window that is launched when the user clicks a link in a Community Links portlet (or any other links that launch a new browser window)?
We default all users to open links in a new browser window and I can't seem to find any rhyme or reason to how it sizes the resulting window. Some community links come out really skinny and un-user friendly, while others are nicely sized to near full screen.
Is there some way to control this?
    Thank you.
    Darla

    Darla,
Which version of the portal are you guys running? We are currently using 6.5 and all the links/Documents/ExternalLinks/Pages open up in a new browser window with the same sizes.
    Its basically controlled by javascript.

  • Cannot login to Cisco Jabber 10.5.1 over Mobile and Remote Access

    Hi,
We have deployed sucessfully VCS Expressway-C and VCS Expressway-E with only 1 zone which is "Unified Communication Traversal" and is for Mobile and Remote Access only. VCS-C and VCS-E are communicating and in statuses everything is active and working. Also VCS-C can communicate with CUCM and CUP (both version 10.5).
Problem is when I deploy Cisco Jabber 10.5.1 on computer outside of LAN and without VPN it start communicating with VCS-E, ask me for accepting certificate (we have certificate only intenally generated on Windows CA) and after that it is trying to connect and after few seconds it will tell me that it can't communicate with server.
Did any of you had same problem or can you advice how to troubleshoot? In Jabber logs there is only something like "Cannot authenticate" error message, but when I startup VPN I can authenticate without any problems.
    Thanks

On Expressway-C are your HTTP Allow Lists setup properly?  By default, and auto discovered CUCM and IMP should be listed via IP and Hostname, but if not, you'll need to insert manually.
Also, you can look at the config file your Expressway-E would be handing out to Jabber via this method.
    From the internet, browse to:
    https://vcse.yourdomain.com:8443/Y29sbGFiLmNvbQ/get_edge_config?service_name=_cisco-uds&service_name=_cuplogin
    Where:
vcse is your Expressway-E hostname (or CNAME/A record)
    yourdomain.com is your own domain
The first directory is your Base64 encoded domain name, remove and trailing equal signs (=)
The XML returned is basically the DNS SRV record information available as if internal for _cisco-uds and _cuplogin
TFTP DNS SRV is optional if you configured TFTP in IMP for your Legacy Clients.

    Hello everyone;;
I am in deep trouble.. I did install routing and remote access and then  lost connection to the server remotely. Then I connected a monitor to the server and removed the role... then it asked me to restart the server . After logging back in I found
all my active directory service has gone... I can see red cross on active directory domain services.. Also I am able to ping other pcs but other pcs cannot ping my server..
However when I go into the active directory services, it shows all services are running except file replication service. I have tried to start that service but it give error 1053 error..
My server in  between loses LAN connection... I dont know what is going on.. Please help!!!
My  server is win 2008 R2 ser pack 1
    Only one DC....
    Has fixed ip,
    no DNS server running..

    Hi,
The File Replication Service Start Error 1053 error can be caused by damaged Windows system files. Corrupted system files entries can threaten the well-being of your computer. Many events can result in creating system file errors.

  • Win 7 Pro 64 occasionally fails to connect using IKEV2 to Win2008R2 Routing and Remote Access server

I'm a networking guy and having this troubling VPM issue that I can't find.
I have a number of VPN connections from my Win7Pro 64 PC to various customers.  Their end points are all Windows Routing and Remote Access on Windows 2008R2 STD servers.
Every once and a while I will hang at Verifying User ID and Password and eventually get  ERROR 809. Change the security type on my VPN connection from IKEV2 to PPTP - never an issue, connects in right away.
I can also try from another PC (at the same or alternate location) to get into that same server using the same credentials and access - no issue using either IKEV2 or PPTP.
This has happened at various times to various customers. Here is what I know it is not:
    - Not the local or remote routers or Firewalls since I can always get in from other PC's going through the same network. Even so, tried rebooting all several times
    - Not an ISP issue at either end since I can always get into other IKEV2 servers from the same PC and from other PC's to the server I can't from my PC.
This leads to the only logical conclusion.  It is something to do with my Win7Pro 64 PC but for the life of my I can not find it.
I have obviously tried rebooting the Win7Pro PC. I have also tried recreating the VPN connection several times. Nothing.
    Help!

    Hi,
I know that you've mentioned that it is not a issue about firewall or router settings, but this error usually comes when some firewall between client and server is blocking the ports used by VPN tunnel.
so to allow IKEv2 traffic, please make sure to configure the network firewall to open UDP ports 500 and 4500, and to allow IP protocol 50.
If that is not possible, deploy SSTP based VPN tunnel on both VPN server and VPN client – that allows VPN connection across firewalls, web proxies and NAT
You can refer to this blog

    Figure 1.
Part 1: Install Windows Server Essentials Experience role locally
Add Windows Server Essentials Experience role
Run Windows PowerShell as administrator, then type
Add-WindowsFeature ServerEssentialsRole cmdlet to install Windows Server Essentials Experience role. (Figure 2)
    Figure 2.
Note: It is necessary to configure Windows Server Essentials Experience (Post-deployment Configuration). Otherwise, you will encounter following issue when opening Dashboard.
    (Figure 3)
    Figure 3.
      2. Configure Windows Server Essentials Experience role
    (1)  In an existing domain environment
Firstly, please join the Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard computer to the existing domain through the path:
    Control Panel\System\Change Settings\”Change…”\Member of. (Figure 4)
    Figure 4.
After that, please install Windows Server Essentials Experience role as original description. After installation completed, please use the following command to configure Windows
    Server Essentials:
    Start-WssConfigurationService –Credential <Your Credential>
    Note: The type of
Your Credential should be as: Domain-Name\Domain-User-Account.
You must be a member of the Enterprise Admin group and Domain Admin group in Active Directory when using the command above to configure Windows Server Essentials. (Figure 5)
    Figure 5.
Next, you can type the password for the domain account. (Figure 6)
    Figure 6.
After setting the credential, please type “Y” to continue to configure Windows Server Essentials. (Figure 7)
    Figure 7.
By the way, you can use
    Get-WssConfigurationStatus

Part 2: Install and configure Windows Server Essentials Experience role remotely
    In an existing domain environment
In an existing domain environment, please use following command to provide credential and then add Server Essentials Role: (Figure 13)
    Add-WindowsFeature -Name ServerEssentialsRole
    -ComputerName xxx -Credential DomainName\DomainAccount
    Figure 13.
After you enter the credential, it will start install Windows Server Essentials role on your computer. (Figure 14)
    Figure 14.
After the installation completes, it will return the result as below:
    Figure 15.
    Next, please use the
    Enter-PSSession
cmdlet and provide the correct credential to start an interactive session with a remote computer. You can use the commands below:
    Enter-PSSession –ComputerName
    xxx –Credential DomainName\DomainAccount (Figure 16)
    Figure 16.
Then, please configure Server Essentials Role via
Add-WssConfigurationService cmdlet and it also needs to provide correct credential. (Figure 17)
    Figure 17.
After your credential is accepted, it will update and prepare your server. (Figure 18)
    Figure 18.
After that, please type “Y” to continue to configure Windows Server Essentials. (Figure 19)
    Figure 19.
    2. In a non-domain environment
In my test environment, I set up two computers running Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and use Server1 as a target computer. The IP addresses for the two computers are as
    below:
    Sevrer1: 192.168.1.54
    Server2: 192.168.1.53
    Run
    Enable-PSRemoting –Force on Server1. (Figure 20)
    Figure 20.
Since there is no existing domain, it is necessary to add the target computer (Server1) to a TrustedHosts list (maintained by WinRM) on Server 2. We can use following command
    to
    add the TrustedHosts entry:
    Set-Item WSMan:\localhost\Client\TrustedHosts IP-Address
    (Figure 21)
    Figure 21.
    Next, we can use
    Enter-PSSession
cmdlet and provide the correct credential to start an interactive session with the remote computer. (Figure 22)
    Figure 22.
After that, you can install Windows Server Essentials Experience Role remotely via Add-WindowsFeature ServerEssentialsRole cmdlet. (Figure 23)
    Figure 23.
From figure 24, we can see that the installation is completed.
    Figure 24.
    Then you can use
Start-WssConfigurationService cmdlet to configure Essentials Role and follow the steps in the first part (configure Windows Server Essentials Experience in a non-domain environment) as the steps would be the same.
The figure below shows the status of Windows Server Essentials.
    Figure
    25.
Finally, we have successfully configured Windows Server Essentials on Server1. (Figure 26)
    Figure 26.

  • Routing and Remote Access Logs (Windows Server 2008 R2)

    Hi,
I have a Windows 2008 R2 server running Routing and Remote access and users are using PPTP VPN's to connect to our network.
I have been asked to find logs for the following for connections in to our server
    Username used for connection
    Computer Name
IP Address used by computer connecting
    Start/End time of VPN session
    Date
    Encryption used
I found an article stating to enable RRAS logs you need to run the following command
To enable RAS logs run command “netsh ras set tracing * enabled” and found a series of logs created in this location C:\Windows\tracing
None appear to contain the information I am looking for and was wondering if I was doing this correctly and if not how I am meant to extract this information?
If you require any more details just let me know.
    Kind Regards
    David

    Hi,
I can’t sure which article you have read, but fur the 2008R2 the RAS to enable the log and the debug log in the KB is descried like this, I recommend you to try the KB
    mentioned method.
To configure RRAS to enable logging
    1. Start Server Manager. Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Server Manager.

  • Routing and remote access logging to SQL server

    Hi!
I am in the process of trying to set up SQL logging from routing and remote access on a windows server 2003 to another windows server 2003 which is running microsoft SQL server 2005.
What i did was i created a database named RRAS in the sql server and in routing and remote access i went under remote access logging and configured it, when i press "test connection" it says its successful. and when i check the local logfile i successfully
configured i can see my connection attempts towards the RRAS. but in the sql database there's nothing, no tables or anything.
I am sure i have the right permissions going on since i have only been using one account for everything so far(created the rras and the sql database), the SQL server is operational(it has a myriad of other databases that are used on a dailybasis).
So i am wondering what component is missing? do i need to create the tables manually, is there a guide that tells me how to do that?

    Hi Plindgren,
    Thanks for posting here.
May in know which fields we’ve created for this table ?
Please take look the link below and recheck the database settings:

  • Routing and Remote access can cause cluster network issues?

After enabling routing and remote access on the servers, we found lots of cluster issues on our server like<o:p></o:p>
    Cluster Service stopped
Communication was lost and reestablished between cluster nodes
    Unable to access witness resource
    Cluster resource failed
can RRAS enabling causes cluster network issues?
    Rahul

    Hi TwoR,
Please offer more information about your current cluster and RRAS configuration, such as are you installed the RRAS role on any cluster node? Are your cluster in Hyper-V environment?
Or if you want to create the RRAS cluster you can refer the following KB:
