Connect imac to pc server

I have a IMac running OS X 10.8.2 connecting wireless to a network where I have a PC server.  I can RDP into the server just fine, then use the windows dialog box to log in.  Is it possible to just connect the server data files to my Mac.  Something like \\myserver\datastore ?
I have used the Finder to try to connect to the server, but its a no go.  Is my issue on the server side permissions or is this not possible?
The server is MS Small Business Server 2003
Thanks
Jeff

Ok I was able to make the connection.  I can see my folders and sub folders, however I click on one or any and the dialog box comes up with "redolving alais to "my folder name", so I cannot see the files themselves..
I went in and added my Imac as a computer in the active directory and also added my user name into the active directory.
Any suggestions??

  • Connecting Imac to X Serve remotely

I want to be able to start working from home and wish to be able to access the work server from my Imac and have no idea how to go about it......
any advice as to the easiest way would be much appreciated

Your use of Xserve implies you have Mac OS X Server around here; this really isn't an Xserve question.
Depending on whether this is a network question or a display question...
Install the Server Tools kit for Mac OS X Server, launch Server Admin, select the server, select Screen sharing.
This presumes you have a network connection from home.
If you don't have a network connection, then you'll need to discuss this with whomever is managing your local firewall and particularly the firewall on the office LAN. The usual solution is a VPN into the office firewall, where you then have what appears to be a local connection into the office LAN.
You can also use ssh or other connections into the box (intervening firewalls permitting), if you're comfortable with operating at the level of the bash command shell.

  • Trying to connect IMac to Lion server (network account)

    Hello,
I have been trying to get this to work for a few weeks now.  I have 2 Imacs and a Macbook, i am trying to login to a network account.  I did the step by step to set up my server.  I can screen share and see all the shared folders.  I have a network user in the work group, and when i go to users on my macbook, and say join the server, i get host not found, but the server is active.
My network is a DSL modem ( in bridge mode), then to a time capsule, that is hard wired to my server and one Imac, everthing else is wireless.  My time capsule hands out the Ip's, and a DNS server is running on my lion server.
Am I having a DNS problem, I am not sure what DNS has to go where starting with the time capsule.  Should i have my time capsule just server one IP to my lion server and have the server hand out the other IP's over DHCP?
My goal is to have network user account on my server, and no matter what computer you use, you can get the same information.  Then set up mobile account for when my macbook is not on the network.
I setup profile manager, and tried to push my settings to my account, but it also fails every time.
I tried to follow apple's doc's on this but I have luck with some things, and now with others.
I am running lion server on a mac mini server.
    Thank you,
         Justin

    HI,
    my experience is as follows:
    1. You have to setup a home folder for network/mobile users with Server.app
    2. Create a group for network users with the workgroupmanagement.app from serveradmin tools
    3. Create users with  correct settings under "preferences" in workgroupmanagement.app, especially "rules"
    4. Put the users in the group
    4. Set the appropriate permissions to the home folder and share it over the network with server.app
After playing around I could login from a MacBook Pro and synchronize the users library and complete home folder. After testing and restarting the machines (Lion Server is on a Mac Mini) I could relogin with the network/mobile user.
My problem actually is, that I could not login from any other Mac. Everytime the system told me, that there is a fault with login.
Before I want to login with the network/moblle user on another MacBook i logout the user form the MacBook Pro.
    No luck :-(
I test it with other users with same settings.
    No luck :-(
I integrate the MacBooks in the Computer settings in the workgroupmanagement.app.
    No luck :-(
I hope this thread give answers the next days, because I need a working synchronize and account management solution for different users and machines :-)
    Cheers
    Ishan

  • Remote Desktop Connection  (RDC) iMac to PC server with fixed IP

I have setup my first imac and as part of this process downloaded Remote Desktop Connection for macs so that I can log onto my server at work. Problem is when I attempt to connect to my remote pc the following message appears "Remote Desktop Connection cannot verify the identity of the computer that you want to connect to. Try connecting to the Windows-based computer, or contact our administrator"

So, what if those don't help? I've had "Always connect, even if authentication fails" selected for quite a while. It was working fine. Yesterday I installed Office 2011 (and immediately installed SP1), and now it broke my ability to connect to a Windows Server 2008 VM that definitely worked yesterday before the Office upgrade.
Anybody have a solution for this? It appears to be a bug in RDC 2.10. Thanks, Microsoft. Off to find a working RDP client for the Mac…

The easiest way would be to use Back to My Mac, but that will only work if the server is a Mac running OS X 10.7 or later and you have the cooperation of the network administrator.

  • I cannot connect with the Mozilla server to update. I'm using Firefox to connect on a dual core iMac on OS 10.6.8.

Every time I try to update Firefox I cannot connect to the Firefox server. the bar just goes and goes and goes. I am on a quad core iMac on OS 10.6.8

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • Connection to server slowed from Airport connected iMacs.

Remote iMacs now have very slow connection to Installed accounting software on server. Originally ran fast and clean.
What can be done to reestablish a fast connection to my Mac server running Leopard?

Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
Also, try using a different method to connect to Internet, if possible, or connecting the computer to Internet as directly as possible, i.e. bypassing any routers that might be present, using an ethernet cable instead of wireless, etc., and see whether that makes a difference.
It could very well be that the problems are related to having installed a system update, usually not because of the update itself, but rather as a result of not having installed it properly, or having ignored Apple’s "Important: Please read before installing" warnings, etc.
Some (but not all) of the problems caused by not having installed an update properly can be fixed by (properly) reinstalling it. If you suspect a particular update could have a bearing on this, proceed as follows.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, reinstall any updates that may not have been installed properly. In some cases, it may also be necessary or convenient to reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, unless this is the version of Mac OS X that came with your computer:
Mac OS X 10.3.9 Combo Update
Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.

  • Apple Mail app no longer connecting to incoming mail server

    Hi.
I use the integral Apple Mail email client under OS X 10.8.
Until this afternoon, all was well and I could send & receive my emails without any problem. (Suggesting that all the server settings & preferences are correct in Mail.)
This afternoon Mail suddenly was unable to connect to my incoming (IMAP) mail server, and I still cannot get it to connect.
I do still receive email from the same server on my iPhone though, so that suggests that the server itself is working correctly.
I've tried quitting Mail and re-launching it, and I've tried editing the server settings, saving the new settings and then reverting to the old ones and re-saving, but to no effect.
The problem exists on both of the user accounts we have set up on this Mac, and both user accounts use the same IMAP server, but with different names of course.
I'm at a loss as to what might have occurred here, and an even further loss as to what else I can try to resolve the problem.
    Anyone any ideas please?
ps. While I was typing this an email arrived in my Mail inbox! BUT... I still have the little !-triangles by the side of my account in Mail, and when I click on them the 'Alert' tells me that there 'may be a problem with the server or network' and, "The server returned the error: The connection to the server “imap.mail.yahoo.com” on port 993 timed out."
So it looks like I'm getting emails somehow, but there is still a problem somewhere.

I started having this same problem yesterday after installing the Safari 7.0.6 update.  This has to be a coincidence.
I have 11 email accounts setup in Apple Mail.  The only one working now is my work exchange email.  The rest are either accounts I host on my own OS X Mavericks Server using IMAP and SMTP over SSL except for two of them which are GMAIL and iCloud.
Same issue.  The iMac just displays the warning triangle symbol and when I click I get the Unable to Connect dialog with the message.
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “iCloud” or try again.
The server returned the error: The server “p03-imap.mail.me.com” cannot be contacted on port 993.
I have verified the settings on all of my IOS devices and they are the same.  As with the original post, my IOS devices are all able to connect to all of my accounts without any problems.
To try and troubleshoot this issue I switched to another user account and tried to connect to one of my mail accounts and got the same Unable to Connect issue.  I then opened another email client (Thunderbird) and configured the email account exactly the same there (IMAP on port 993 and SMTP on port 587).  Thunderbird was able to connect and retrieve my mail without any problems.  As an additional test I opened up terminal and tried "telnet p03-imap.mail.me.com 993".  I was immediately connected to the iCloud server.
To sum up this does not appear to be a problem with the iMac, the user account, my mail server or the network.  It appears to be a problem with Apple Mail only.
I wonder if there is a plist file or something that needs nuking.

  • I got a message that I should download an upgrade to Firefox 3.6.16. So I hit the download button and it said "Downloading the update" and "Connecting to the udate server". And it gets stuck there. How can I get past it?

I have an iMac OS 10.4. I downloaded Firefox a while ago and I had no real problems with it. Then I got this message that I should update Firefox to 3.6.16. So I hit the "Download" button and I get the "Software Update" which says "Downloading the update" with a progress bar and below it , it says "Connecting to the download server". But it gets stuck there. The progress bar has gone to the end of bar. How can I get hooked up to the Update server?

That is because that Firefox 3.6.x version has been released later than the Firefox 4 version.
If you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Intel iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I've just done a clean install of OSX Server and added the latest MYSQL packaged installer. Afterwards I found the lock file in /private/tmp/mysql.lock
The easiest way to solve this problem is to create a symbolic link so that the lock file appears to be in right place.
    e.g.
    cd /var
sudo mkdir mysql <== this assumes the directory is missing
    cd mysql
    sudo ln -s /private/tmp/mysql.sock mysql.sock
After this msql commands should work fine, and you've not fiddled with the security settings on users/groups.
