Convergence Corporate address book

Good Morning,
We are currently running Convergence patch 4 and i noticed a small issue the the Address book. In particular the corporate directory,
when highlighting the corp directory tab in convergence there is an option to "add to address book" function.
When clicking on this button, it will throw an error stating "Save contact failed".
I imagine the problem stems from the address book being a corporate directory will not allow any normal user to modify the corp address book.
But from a user perspective it is very confusing, because they believe clicking on the entry and the "add to address book" button will allow them
to add the entry to the personal address book tab.
Is my assumption correct?
Thanks.

  • Convergence Corporate Address Book with Mail Groups

    Hi
I'm not sure if this expected behavior or a bug but a search for a mail group in the Corporate Directory of Convergence returns the name of the group in the list in the left panel but no details of the group (such as mail address) in the panel on the right. The Corporate Directory search works correctly for people and returns the full set of attributes.
    The version of Convergence is:
    ./iwcadmin -V
    Sun Convergence 1.0-4.01 (built December 8 2008 - 14:54:08)Platform:
    uname -a
    SunOS mail1 5.10 Generic_138889-03 i86pc i386 i86pcThe iwcadmin options relating to search:
    ab.corpdir.[default].searchattr = entry/displayname,@uid,person/surname
    ab.corpdir.[default].searchfilter =
ab.corpdir.[default].urlmatch = ldap://corpdirectoryThere are no errors in iwc.log and the LDAP search suggests all attributes are requested. For example, an extract from the LDAP access log when searching for a group called cn=systems:
    [01/Apr/2009:09:59:54 +0100] conn=10882 op=31 msgId=101 - SRCH base="o=xxxxx" scope=2

In the next Convergence patch (-07 a.k.a. Convergence update 2) selecting a corporate directory group will display additional group related information including a brief listing of the members of the group and email address.
Note however that group view functionality will not mirror that provided by UWC/CE i.e. the ability to expand and view details for each group member. There is an existing RFE to have this functionality added in a future revision of Convergence:

  • Searching Corporate Address book in Convergence 1u3

It appears that searching by surname in the corporate address book is not working in our deployment of convergence: display name and and uid works. This is the value in our iwc config
    ab.corpdir.[default].searchattr = entry/displayname,@uid,person/surname
Is that correct, if not what should I set?
    TIA,
    Dan

Thanks; It appears I had VLV indexes configured on the DS but forgot to set it in convergence

  • ACI for corporate address book search

    Hi,
I am using IDS52 and IMS52. My exisiting domain is abc.com. Due to certain circumstance, I have created another domain called; xyz.abc.com under the same messaging server. I do not want users from abc.com to see xyz.abc.com email address when they do a corporate address book search using their email client, eg:outlook express.
I have created one aci under xyz.abc.com
    (targetattr = "*") (target = "ldap:///o=xyz.abc.com,dc=abc,dc=com") (version 3.0;acl "test";deny (read,search) userdn != "ldap:///o=xyz.abc.com,dc=abc,dc=com??sub?(objectclass=inetOrgPerson)";))
Using this aci I am not only block people from abc.com to search xyz.abc.com address. In fact, people in xyz.abc.com also blocked from searching the address under their domain.
Can somebody help me, is there anything wrong with my aci? How should i rewrite it? Please help!! Thank you

    Hi Jim,
I was able to reproduce this on IWC 137631-10 (latest patch).
This is related to an existing bug, which is not fixed yet:
Bug 6795529 Corporate address book - no VLV index: search by firstname/lastname/email doesn't work
According to the developers, if VLV is not enabled in IWC, IWC/Convergence will only search by displayname (even if the user chooses lastname). The bug fix is to NOT display the options to search by lastname etc, if VLV is not enabled.
The search by lastname works for me after I enable VLV in IWC, as described in the IWC admin guide:

  • Convergence Address Book customization.

I have disabled "Personal Address Book" option under Address Book. Now, when I login and click on Address Book Service, ViewerContainer pane shows a blank page. How do I set default page to be loaded for ViewerCOntainer?.
I see this issue only when PAB is disabled.

  • Customize Convergence Address Book Search Field to Search on Organization

We have a requirement for users to be able to search the corporate address book by organization. Is it possible to add a Organization option to the search filter drop down in the Address Book browser page?
Currently there are only options to search on the following attributes:
    1. Display Name or Email
    2. First Name
    3. Last Name
    4. Phone Number
    We are using Convergence 2-0.06

  • Personal Address Book in clients other than Outlook ( e.g. Thunderbird )

Does anybody know what the latest is on PAB integration in Thunderbird. This is a big turn-off for using JES. I am looking at the JCS for two reasons 1.) as an alternative to Ms proprietary lock-in and 2.) for an more open platform to integrate a some of our own software. It's quite frustrating that Sun are supporting Outlook almost exclusively. Convergence is great, but not a replacement for a thick email client. I really like Thunderbird but I can't access personal address books.
Any links for how to add a shared address book in Thunderbird? I'm sure I managed to sync at least the corporate address book when I reviewed JCS 5, but i can't remember and can't find a how to.
I have even considered writing a Thunderbird addon myself to access Address Books using ldap but it seems the PAB entries are locked by Directory Manager access and not available to the PAB user. Is there anywhere else to locate the PAB entries other than at "dn=piPStoreOwner=euan,o=potensol.com,o=PiServerDb" ?

A major limitation to any development of LDAP PAB integration is the lack of LDAP write support in Thunderbird. Any future movement will be more towards CardDAV as per:
    http://wikis.sun.com/display/CommSuite/Project+Aries
It's quite frustrating that Sun are supporting Outlook almost exclusively.Sun is expending a large amount of resources (staff) into the Lightning project which is providing calendar functionality into Thunderbird. That is why there has been so much progress on this front over the past 12 - 18 months. Sun has also rolled Lightning out internally giving it even higher visibility.
    http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/calendar/
I'm sure this group would appreciate any feedback, testing etc. that you could provide.

I'm sure I managed to sync at least the corporate address book when I reviewed JCS 5, but i can't remember and can't find a how to.Accessing the read-only corporate address-book should be relatively straight-forward. A quick google shows up a number of examples e.g.
    http://www.cam.ac.uk/cs/email/ldapsettings/mozilla.html
I have even considered writing a Thunderbird addon myself to access Address Books using ldap but it seems the PAB entries are locked by Directory Manager access and not available to the PAB user. Is there anywhere else to locate the PAB entries other than at "dn=piPStoreOwner=euan,o=potensol.com,o=PiServerDb" ?The other way would be to access the data using the WAPB protocol to the Convergence/UWC installation which is what Outlook Connector uses to access the address-book information. Unfortunately this protocol isn't yet publicly available. Feel free to push this with your Sun Account Manager.Regards,
Shane.Thank's Shane, your responses are always thorough and very helpful. Thanks for the link for LDAP shared address books in Thunderbird, I think that was the very article I used last time, should have bookmarked it.
I think it was harsh to say "It's quite frustrating that Sun are supporting Outlook almost exclusively.", I didn't realise they had involvement on the lightning project. Since my orignal post I have managed to install the plugin (v 0.8) and connect to my calendars. For feedback, so far it looks awesome, I was so impressed to see my tasks I added in convergence, in Thunderbird. I do recommend a 'how to' guide on Sun's website explaining exactly how to connect to it (couldn't find one myself from google). The 'how to' on mozilla's site forgets to mention that port must be specified (if it's not port 80, I use single-host deployment). Yet to try the experimental caching feature, will give feedback on that another time.
Will check out CardDAV shortly, thanks for link.
Overall, I am really happy with the JCS. If PAB and shared address book read/write/cache are implemented in Thunderbird/Evolution/Outlook then it would be the perfect comms suite. Servers seems to run really well although I have not put any real load on them yet. :-)

  • Convergence - corporate directory questions

We need Convergence to search an external corporate directory. Our external directory is populated by a more authoritative database, and the data is sanitized to not contain restricted (FERPA) data.
    1. When will support for an external corporate directory be added to Convergence?
    2. How do you disable the default option to search the Corporate Directory? We can't allow users to search the backend ldap server, and it is misleading to have it present in the interface.
    3. Ideally, we want this to be configured on a per domain basis, since some of our domains will need to search a different corporate directory. Will there be a way to add dojo customizations to change which directory(s) will be searched?

    1. When will support for an external corporate directory be added to Convergence? You can achieve this already e.g.
    ./iwcadmin -w password -o ab.corpdir.[default].ldaphost -v "remoteldap.domain.com"
    ./iwcadmin -w password -o ab.corpdir.[default].ldapport -v 389

    2. How do you disable the default option to search the Corporate Directory? We can't allow users to search the backend ldap server, and it is misleading to have it present in the interface. There is an option to enable/disable the Corporate Address-book, unfortunately it doesn't work, at least not in my pre-release patch -07 test installation:

Will there be a way to add dojo customizations to change which directory(s) will be searched? It is already possible to configure per-domain settings for corporate/personal addressbooks. • LDAP address book search slow

    Hi,
I am using the LDAP server on Mac OS X Server 10.4 to store our corporate address book which is updated from a php based admin. The amount of contacts is around 700 now and searchs from Apple Addressbook are taking nearly 10 seconds. Is there a way of speeding this up hopefully to below 2 seconds?
I don't know much about LDAP and have been trying to reindex the database by stopping LDAP and runnign slapindex, but this doesn't seem to have made a difference.
    Many Thanks
    Tim Pearson
    Grafika Ltd

I have solved my problem. I don't think the indexing was a problem. I was running on 10.4.3 and had a process called nano using my processor at 100%. I noticed this and upgraded to 10.4.6 server which has cured the problem and now the LDAP search is almost instant.

  • Address Book Search

Here's the thing .... say I need to find a contact within a particular company but I don't know the contacts actual name .... say I need to find the HR manager at Company X.
I do a search on Company X .... I get a list of contacts that I have created in that company ..... but all I see is their names .... I can't see their job title or department or anyother indicators that I have created until I actually click on individual cards . This is seems very limited to me ? Am I missing something or else I can't possible be the only person thinking this way ?  Any advice welcome, many thanks

I shouldn't have said search. I should have said view. The corporate address book can be viewed and sorted by hitting one of the letters under the search. This is what I believe is based on display name. I have confirmed that by adjusting the cn of 'First Last' to 'Last, Frist' on one user and it did allow me to do what I was referring to. When I click the letter of the last name now the user appears.
Is there any detriment to adjusting the CN for a user in this manner?

  • Add new remote address book

I am trying to add a new ldap address book in communications express
Can somebody help me with a sample to start with this.
The below is a sun document explaining basic steps for reference:
Currently I have personal address book and corporate directory shown in the drop down list. When we select the corporate directory all users for that hosted domain is listed correctly. And in PAB all contacts entered in outlook contacts is listed. Now we want to add new book that will point the root of ldap to list all users accross all hosted domian.
I hope this is possible. Thanks in advance
    SUN DOC:
    Corporate Address Book
For corporate and remote address books a corresponding xxx instance should exist in the personalstore.properties file. The value of db.xxx.urlmatch in personalstore.properties file should be assigned the value of bookremoteurl attribute present in defaultps.xml file.
To add a new remote address book, you need to add the following items:
    Steps
Add a new book node in defaultps.xml file
Add a new xxx instance in personalstore.properties file.
Create a directory under WEB-INF/config to store the db_config.properties and xlate files.
    Note
The xlate files contains the field mappings between an LDAP schema and address book XML schema for a contact or group

We have 3 FE Lync 2010 servers. All the clients are giving an error "cannot synchronize with the corporate address book".
I can access Internal Web services URL and download the AB file.  I have also made an entry for Lync Internal web services in the host file and signed into the Lync. Then the client was able
to download the Address book files successfully. Any ideas to resolve this.?
    Thank you !

Force a contact list update to make sure that your information is synchronized. To this, follow these steps:
Locate one of the following folders, depending on your operating system:
    For Lync 2013:
    Windows 7 and Windows 8: %localappdata%\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\sip_<sign-in name>
    For Lync 2010:
    Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista: %localappdata%\Microsoft\Communicator\sip_<sign-in name>
    Windows XP: %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data \Microsoft\Communicator\sip_<sign-in name>
    Delete the following files:
    Galcontacts.db
    galcontacts.db.idx
    CoreContact.cache
    ABS_<sign-in name>.cache
    Mfugroup.cache
    PersonalLISDB.cache
    PresencePhoto.cache
Restart Lync, and then wait for 30 minutes for resynchronization to finish

  • Personal Address Book on evolution

    Hi,
I'm using evolution + JESCS to acces JES2005Q4. Mail, and calendar works fine. I have configured LDAP acces to corporate Address Book but I have no acces to my personal addressbook.
The problem seems to be that Personal address Book stored in "pipstoreowner=_User_,o=_Domain_,o=piserverdb " hasent got the standar format for contacts on standar addressbook.
Is there any way to acces the personal address book using an standar LDAP Client?

Um, honestly, I have no idea how you might set up a "standard ldap client" to access the address book. nor how to get Evolution to do it.

  • Company address book

Can I make one person's address book to be seen by all users?
I mean if I add someone to my address book, I want the same person to appear in the address book of all accounts, like a global address book.
    Can I do that?

I think what you're looking for is more like a corporate address book than a "personal" address book.
In any case, what you're asking for just is not in the product. You will have to:
    1. Create your own Directory for global use
    2. Add it to Communication Express in some way, that likely looks similar to the Corporate Address Book.
This activity would be unsupported by Sun.
