Conversion of Base units

Hello BPC Gurus,
Is there any posibility to convert Base Units in BPC 7.5 Nw version? For example I have base units in Kg,Pieces,Liters . If I want to convert Kg into liters or Liters Into KG or Liters into pieces or vice versa.
I have  heard that we have to use ABAP programming for conversion of above stated Base units(Kg,Pieces,Liters). Please let me know how to use ABAP Programming in BPC.
Thanks in advance.
With regards,
Anand Kumar

Hi Anand,
You can convert units of measure using script logic or a script logic BADI (ABAP). For lots of examples of BADIs, you can look at the BPC NW How-To guides on the SDN wiki.
You could also conceivably use the currency conversion functionality of BPC to manage conversion of units of measure but it is not really optimized for that use case and you would probably need to choose to use if for either UoM conversion or currency conversion. Using the currency conversion for both purposes is very problematic.

  • SOP:   MA-501 conversion into base unit error

    Dear All
I am using flexible planning and at the time of transfer to Demand Management through MC90 i am facing the following Express document error
    Update was terminated
    Update key...   C96200E1E440F1798829001A64D28E46
    Generated....   27.10.2011, 11:14:32
    Completed....   27.10.2011, 11:14:33
Error Info...   MA 501: Not possible to convert from TO
However the Base unit of Measure of my Material is TO - Tonne and InfoStructure unit is also TO. I am unable to understand if Base unit of measure is same as planning unit, why system is throwing conversion error in express document.
Kindly help me out in solving this problem.
    Regards

    Hi,
    Please check
    1) The Base unit of measure maintained for the info strucuture in MC7F. If that is matching with material master then check the unit for the key figure in MC23 as per SAP Note 95132.
    2) If the unit of measure in MC7F for the info structure is different then try to maintain alternative unit of measure concept in the material master.

  • Requistion and Purchase Order - base unit and order unit

    People,
I have a basic doubt in MM:
I have a Requisition with a item using the base unit, for instance 20 litres.
When I create a Purchase Order in ME21N passing the requisition and item number, I must be converted to the order unit, correct?
In this case, we have 1 UN (order unit) corresponds to 20Liters (base unit).
I did believe the Purchase would be converted to 1 UN, but I got 20 Liters.
    What is correct?
    Thanks a lot!

If you maintian the order unit in the mateiral master purchaisng screen than whenever you create the PO system will convenrt in to that order unit and in the Po item details you will see the conversion of base unit to order unit.
now suppose you have more than one order unit than you activate the Variable order unit in the material master and maintiqan the conversion of that and create the diff info record for diff order unit based on the vendor so whne oyu create the PO as per the vendor system will pull the order unit in the PO.
Hope this will give you clear picture.

  • Conversion of Order Unit to Base Unit

    Hi Friends,
How to set the conversion of Order Unit to Base unit.
The scenario is like this.  Purchase order is made in Rolls but the stocking will be in meter.   I my case, when the GR is made in meter, the rolls should be multiplied by 65.  Instead the system is dividing the rolls by 65 meters which is wrong.
I want to correct same, but dont know where to do.
Kindly guide me to correct this.
    TIA.
    Regards,
    Mark K

    Hi Mark,
You can only change the base units of measure under the following circumstances
    • No stocks are available for the material.
    • There are no existing purchase requisitions, purchase orders, or scheduling agreements for the material.
    • At present, no purchase orders or purchase order items are being created or changed.
If requests for quotations, purchasing info records, or contracts are available for a material, the system emits a warning while changing base unit of measure. Still if you want to change unit of measure specify in a dialog box the factor for converting the base unit of measure into the new base unit of measure. The purchasing info records are then, if necessary, updated.
As system is not allowing changing base unit of measure there will be either stock of this material or existing purchase document
    1) If there are stocks in the previous period, you can clear them as follows:
    a) Post the stock in the previous period to the current period (for example, using movement type 561) so that the stock for the previous period is the same as the stock for the current period.
    b) Clear the stock with the posting date in the previous period (for example, using movement type 562).
    • 2) If there are Open purchase requisitions, purchase orders, or scheduling agreements for the material.
We suggest completing all P2P cycle for open orders (purchase requisitions, purchase orders, or scheduling agreements) and then close it.
    Then
    1. Run Trnx MM02 (Change Material Master immediately.
    2. Overwrite the old base unit of measure with the new one in basic data screen.
    3. Save the change.
    Reward points for helpful.

  • Base Unit of Measure to Sales Unit Conversion

    Hi,
Currently we are selling material in MT and all other transactions in MM and Production are in MT only.
Now client wants material to be sold in Meters, also in some cases the same material will be sold in MT also.
(As per my knowledge generally if the conversion is one to one i.e. base unit of measure is pieces and Sales unit of measure will be boxes and
1 box = 10 pieces can be maintained in material master.)
Here for conversion between Metric tonne to Meters there is formula involved so how and where this conversion needs to maintained in system.
How to map this type of scenario.
What all activities needs to be done from SD side and which other modules need to be involved this process.
Note: SAP is installed for more than 3 years now.
    Hope i clear enough.
    Regards,

    Hi following is the formula.
OD = Outer diameter, thickness, length, Number of tubes are maintained in sales order charateristics during sales order creation.
    OD
    Thickness
    Weight in Kgs / M
    length of tube
    Nos of tubes
    Total length in Mtrs
    Rate / MT
    Rate / Mtr
    A
    X = (A-B)*B*0.02456
    'L
    N
    T= L xN/1000
    R
    M=R/1000*X

I am working on 2lis_11_vaitm and 2lis_11_v_ssl sources.
Both these sources have quantities in Sales unit.
In BW how do i convert these quantities to Base unit.
Both sales unit and base units are available in the sources. But value avialable only in Sales unit.
I am using delivery quantity from 2lis_11_v_ssl and Cumulative order quantity in 2lis_11_vaitm.
    Kindly suggest a way.

    Hi all ,
I have a  Custom report which post the goods Issue .
The program uses tables mard and mska. In mard table fields used are mard-matnr,  mard-labst,mard-Lagerort,mska-sobkz,mska-vbeln,  mska-posnr,e mard-werks.
the program call mb1a for updating the data using Bdc .
<b></b>the problem is that the quantity of the stock is
shown only in the base unit of measure .. but some material have Alternative Unit of measure  ... Its not taking Alternative Unit of measure ...
Any help is highly appreciated ..
    Regards,
    Amarnath Reddy.

    Hi all ,
the program aim is to transfer the stock from the storage location with reference to order number from  CO (cobl-aufnr).
In mard when i am able to c the unit of issue for the selected material number.
My question is in the report program sap is not looking for the unit of issue . It is only taking basic unit of issue ... Is there any way that program looks for the Unit of issue .

  • Base Unit Of Measurement error

    Dear Sir \ Mam,
Our some materials base unit of measurement is in KG, and we want to make bills, excise RG1 entry in KG for milligram sales or material transfer. How to go for such transaction, system is not allowing for such transactions.
Pls Note : We can't create two separate materials code for these UOM issue materials.
    Requesting a help.
    Regards,
    Randhir Padwal

    Hi,
As per my understanding you have base unit in KG and you want to material issue and sales in miligram unit. If this is requirement then you may try to assign "sales unit" for material master in "sales:sales org1" view. you have to also give the conversion rate from KG to miligram in additional data.
for issuing you have to maintain issue unit "miligram" in material master view "Plant data/stor1"

  • Base unit of measure

    Dear Expert
my query is whenever i add new base unit of measure what are the effect it had on the system , i mean how base unit effect in the back end ...how system process base unit of measurement .
    Regards

    Dear usmfarhan
Actually Base unit of Measurement is the UoM which u want to maintiain ur inventory in the system.
i.e whater u r buying it from vendor ...it might be in Ea or Box or Carton
And you want to store in KG
So you can have Additional unit of Measurement and its conversion that can be defined in AMterial master in additional unit of measurement
Let us say Base UoM is KG and ur Ordering unit is TON
So u have to define Conversion rule as 1 Ton = 1000 KG in material master.
,While changing Base unit of measurement you should make sure that stock should not be there.
Secondly neither Purchase order for Raw material not Sales order for FG should exist in the system ,Neitehr routing should exist for FG
Or else system will not allow u to change UoM

  • Conversion Problem in Unit of measure 1PAC=100,000 EA

    Hi Experts,
I am facing the problem in conversion of Unit of Measures.
If some material has the conversion unit when we order to Vendor.
The Unit of measure is EA, the Order unit is PAC.
    The conversion is 1PAC=100,000 EA
But the System is allowing as 1PAC=10,000 EA only and it is not allowing to enter 100,000 EA and throughing the error
Entry too long (enter in the format __,___)
    Message no. 00089
How can we increase the characters of the Unit of measure. Like this we have some 50 Materials, I need to increase the length of the conversion spaces. How to do it, Please guide me.

    Swamy

    Hi
you can check this out the denominator factor is Stored in structure - SMEINH - field UMREN.
Best option is to maintain decimal place for the UOM , which is more easier to mainatin.
Even if you go through the note the same is explained. Please read below for Too large numerators and denominators
When 120000 CM3 = 0,2 tons (TO), you can no longer save numerator and denominator of conversion ratio 600000 CM3 = 1 TO as numerator and denominator may have maximally five digits.
Here, you must either select a larger volume unit or a smaller unit of weight: With DM3 the conversion ratio would be 600 DM3 = 1 TO, with KG the conversion ratio would be 600 CM3 = 1 KG.
Generally, the alternative units of measure and the base unit of measure should result in quantities that are in the same dimension since the conversion factors may not be larger than 99999/1 and not smaller than 1/99999.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Conversion of alternate unit of measurement

    Hi,
System will not allow to enter conversions of unit of measurements in decimal points. But is there any configuration or method, we can force system to accept conversions of unit of measurements in decimal points only? (For example 2.5kg = 1pc, base unit of measurement is 'PC' and alternate unit of measurement is 'KG')
    Regards,
    Sattuj

    Hi,
For the given example of Alternate conversion you can use the following setting :
    2.5 Kg = 1 Pc
    Put the Values as :
    25 Kg = 10 Pc
With this the objective of Decimal is achieved.

  • Sales unit V/s Base unit :Urgent

    Hi
In varrint configuration i have manitained configurable material as Pc.
Now once i run sales order system says :
"conversion rule of Pc and Ea should be maintain in system' because sales unit is maintained as EA. in line item condition tab.
    So its my kind reply
where shoud i do this changes
    plz reply ASAP
    regards;
    Mk

    Hi mahesh
In your scenario it is like you have maintained both base unit of measure and sales unit as PC only
So when you are cerating VA01 , system is asking for ea.
go to material master record - >  basic data 1-> additional data-> click on unit of measure tab and enter alternative Unit of measure (UoM) as many combinations as you wish For example
    1pac - 10pcs
    1car  - 5pcs
       1pc - 1ea (in your case )

  • Base Unit of Measure issue

    Hi Experts,
As per the scenario, my client is manufacturing a rod whose std length is 6m. But, he is selling it in other sizes also like 4.3, 5.5 so on. So, the price should be get calculated on length & no of pieces.
As, per my understanding I had put base unit of measure as meter & sales unit as ea. Conversion rate has been maintained as 1ea=6meter. But, then as he is selling it in different sizes also. How to calculate price in such condition. Please throw some light on it.
    Regards,
    Prashant

    hi
    i am not expert
    based on b knowledge
when you fix the unit of measure  1ea=6m , based on this system will pick the quantity , you raise the sale order for each then system will take meters like 1ea=6m,
you requirement it 4.3.5.5 m , so you can change the unit of measure for particular material , like 1m =1m , then system will take correct quantity , and based on this system will take price , your pricing is manual or automatic , when manual no problem , automatic you maintain , quantity based price ,
you can change the unit of measure for material at mm02 , at additional data, you can maintain
    please try this
    regards

  • Base unit of measure is different from Idoc to purchase order toSAP System.

    Hi Gurs,
vendor send a purchase order for confirmation through EDI, the base unit of measure in the Idoc is PA( Parcel). For this same material the unit of measure in R/3 system is PC.( Piece). I got a error on this.I checked in CUNI, In Unit of measurement ST (PC) is already assigned to  unit PCE in EDI. But i dont want to change the  Conversion.I need this also and I want to create a new conversion ST(PC) is assign to PA( Parcel).
    Please help in this.
Is it possible to maitainthe ISO-code PA into table Units of Measurement of Dimension?
Edited by: Vadivel Karalam on Nov 1, 2010 1:13 PM

    Hi,
You are getting the error because as part of the std ( For ALE/EDI) the unit of measurement that is maintained is PC whereas if you look at another unit of measure that you have mentioned, the std doesn't define anything under the ALE/EDI setup.
Because of that all the conversions are coming with PC. So pls goto general settings and check unit of measure menu. There for each of your units, there is a section for ALE/EDI, set up the relevant UoM and the issue should get resolved.
    Hope it helps.

  • Sales Unit to Base unit validation in Pricing

    Hi
I have a material that has base unit in EA and sales unit is CS. The pricing scenario that I am trying to accomplish is that I would like to apply a split case surcharge of 1 USD per EA for the material sold anything outside of a Case. But here is what happens.
Case 1: If I order 1 CS, no Surcharge appears, which is fine.
Case 2: If I order 1 EA, surcharge appears, which is fine.
Case 3: If I order 10 EA, surcharge of 10 USD appears. Here I would like to see no Surcharge because 10 EA makes 1 CS.
Case 4: If I order 12 EA, surcharge of 12 USD appears. Here I would like to see a surcharge of 2 USD as 10 EA makes up a case which leaves us with only 2 EA loose.
I have tried this using a simple routine but I would like to explore if this can be done using standard SAP pricing. Please advice
    Thanks

    Hi,
Did you maintianed the relationship between the EA=CS in additiona data in material master.
Here is how you do it, of you go to material master (MM02) you will see an  button of additional data, once you go there you will find tabe, one of them is unit of measure.
Maintain the numerical conversion of how may EA= CS here,
    Hope this solves,
    Thanks,
