Converted (.SRT - Encore Subtitle text script) never Sync.

Hi all,
I've searched for two days on the web but still no answer.
I'm making a BluRay Disc of a collection of TV Show episodes. I add these episodes as an .m4v file into Encore, which works great. These videos will be transcoded the the appropriat format at the end.
The only problem I encounter is the subtitles: I have an .srt file which runs perfectly sync with the .m4v video file (when I just play it in i.e. VLC, so no Adobe Encore is used)
But when I open the .srt file in a Subtile Editor (Subtitle Workshop, Subtitle Edit, Jubler (MAC) ) and hit ' Save As' Adobe Encore Text Script and import it in Adobe Encore, it starts of as a good sync in the first few seconds of the TV Show episode, but is way out of sync at the end of the episodes... (Sounds like me as an FPS problem?)
I've tried everything, from all different types of FPS output of the subtitle file, to all different project FPS settings.
My main project is 23,976FPS BluRay NTSC, my VIDEOFILE.m4v is 23,976FPS and my subtitles are 23,976FPS.
I really hope someone can help me out here.
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Christiaan.

Allright, maybe this way is not the fastest way to calculatie it, but it works every time for me:
First of all the crucial properties are that all my videofiles.m4v are 23,976 FPS and I've set my Encore BluRay project to BluRay NTSC 23,976 FPS.
I don't know if this works when different framerates are used...
Anyhow:
I'll go through these steps with an example I used, which I'm sure of it works.
NOTE: WE DON'T DO ANYTHING WITH THE SUBTITLE.srt FILE TILL STEP 7
1)
When you import the videofile.m4v into Adobe Encore, and look at the properties, you'll see it's FPS, but also the time in frames not milliseconds. Write down what time is displayed (in example: 00:53:18:19 which is hh:mm:ss:ff frames)
2)
When you look up the duration of the videofile.m4v outside Adobe Encore it'll display in milliseconds
(I used MediaInfo on OS X, but VLC will also display time. In my case it displayed the videofile.m4v as 53min22sec, and yes this is the same videofile.m4v as the 00:53:18:19 displayed in STEP 1 )
This 53min22sec = 00:53:22:000 (hh:mm:ss:mmm milliseconds)
What we want is the difference between the videofile.m4v in Encore, and outside Encore. This difference can be converted in percentages, which can be applied in Subtitle Edit to adjust the subtitles.
3) "Calculating the displayed frames displayed in Encore to milliseconds"
So, in my case, I'm dealing with 23,976 FPS (note: FPS = Frames Per Second)
Thus;
1 second = 23,976 FPS
1000 milliseconds = 23,976
In this example 00:53:18:19. We know 1000 milliseconds = 23,976 FPS, so we also know how many milliseconds 19 FPS is:
(19*1000ms)/(23,976) = 792,.....ms.
4) "Rewrite the Encore time in seconds"
We now know that 00:53:18:19 (in frames) = 00:53:18:792 (in milliseconds)
5) "Calculate difference in seconds between time shown in Encore (00:53:18:792) and time shown outside Encore (00:53:22:000)"
Difference in seconds = 00:53:22:000 - 00:53:18:792 = 3,208 seconds
Now we have to calculate what the percentage those 3,208 seconds is in respect the the whole videofile.m4v inside Encore.
6) "Calculate percentage"
We know the total time of the videofile.m4v in Encore is 00:53:18:792 (We just calculated that). That total duration is 100%, but being able to calculate with that value, we have to convert those hours:minutes:seconds:milliseconds into just seconds.
Easy: (53min*60seconds) + 18seconds + 0,792seconds = 3198,792 seconds
3198,792 = 100%, so we also know how many % 3,208 seconds is.
(3,208*100%) / 3198,792 = 0,100273472%
We know have calculated the difference between the videofile.m4v inside Encore, and outside Encore.
The subtitle.srt is synchronized to the videofile.m4v outside Encore, and not inside Encore (duh, that's the whole problem)
But when we open Subtitle Edit, open the subtitle.srt and choose for the option to resync with percentage, you'll see it's normalle set to 100%. This value has to be adjusted with our corrected % we've calculated in STEP 6.
So, 100%-0,100273472% = 99,89971214%. Makes sure that it's set to apply on all subtitle lines, and hit ENTER.
7)
Make sure the subtitle is set to 'Unicode' (can be done in Subtitle Edit, just in the main screen).
Then, hit "Save As" and save the subtitle not as .srt but as Adobe Encore NTSC.
You can now import this subtitle_Adobe.Encore.NTSC.txt in Adobe Encore, and it will run Perfectly sync.
Good luck!
P.S.
Sorry if I described it a little bit long, but this will make sure you understand it correctly. I hope.
Let me know if you have any questions.
- Chris.

  • Encore CS3: Freezes completly when checking for "Subtitle Text Overflow"

    Hi,
    I have a project with about 2 hours of film in several timelines. Everything has been subtitled for hearing impaired.
    My problem is that I can't "Check Project" with the "Subtitle Text Overflow" option checked. If I do so, the project freezes - and dies.
    Now, I could care less about this bug if it wasn't for the fact that Encore automatically FORCES a "Check Project" when ever you try to build a DVD.
    I have gone through every subtitle and can't find text overflow anywhere.
    Can anyone help me out? :-/
    Best regards,
    David
    System setup:
    ============
    Win XP SP2
    Intel Core 2, 2.4 GHz
    3.25 MB RAM
    GFX: Nvidia Quadro FX 1500

    Each subtitle in a script has a start and end timecode. Are you positive that none of the end timecodes collide with any of the start timecodes?
    Also, which TV format is your project? And what is the delimiter between hours minutes seconds frames of your subtitle clip (i.e., is it a colon : or semicolon ; )?

  • Subtitles go out of sync in Encore! Urgent!

    Hi everyone,
    I've got a (big) problem with Encore. I want to add subtitles to a movie, around an hour and half lenght.
    When I import them, they're first perfectly synchronised, but as time goes by, they get up to
    5-6 seconds off. What should I do?
    P.S. I've already did the colon stuff - : into ; (and reversed), changed subtitle
    from 25 fps to 29.97 (and reversed) and tried to save subtitles from Lemony Subtitler,
    as I read in one post. It all has the same result - the subtitles are always the same.
                                                                           Thanks in advance.

    I tried both PAL and NTSC, thanks for trying to help me.
    I can't believe I thought my subs were sync with the video and I watched only
    for 10 min. Last night I watched the entire video on my comp
    using media player classic and it turned out that the
    subtitles were out of sync all the time, which means
    that Encore is working perfectly, and that I'm an idiot
    because I didn't check the entire video...

  • Convert Cross-Reference to Text

    Does anybody have a script that will convert cross-references to text? In other words, I want to be able to remove the linkage of the cross-reference but keep the static text in place.
    Editorial comment: I set up on my local computer several books in CS6 and used cross-references, and everything worked fine. Then I moved the files to a network location and started suffering that painful slowdown that I had experienced in previous versions of InDesign. (I foolishly believed Adobe would have fixed this by now. My mistake.)

    I'm guessing that the op want to convert the cross-references that you set in the Hyperlinks panel. Try this:
    var xrefs = app.documents[0].crossReferenceSources.everyItem().getElements();
    for (var i = xrefs.length-1; i > -1; i--){
        xrefs[i].sourceText.insertionPoints[-1].contents = xrefs[i].sourceText.contents;
        xrefs[i].remove();

  • HT4859 I shared itunes account with my daughter, had never synced my phone with computer, synced with computer and chose daughter's phone instead of create new phone, all phone contacts are now gone replaced with daughter's - is there no way to get contac

    I shared itunes account with daughter's phone, never synced my phone with home computer through itunes, synced tonight with itunes but choose her iphone and it restored all her info on my phone, all my phone contacts, text messages and photos are gone  - I had auto backup to icloud daily - is there any way to get phone numbers and texts back off icloud?

    If you have been backing up to iCloud your camera roll photos, text messages and other data and setting should be contained in the backup.  Restoring the backup to the phone should recover them.
    To do this, go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings (which will erase the phone), then go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup and follow the prompts.  Be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger as this may take some time to finish.

  • Formatting subtitle text

    I have subtitles in my DVD and want to change the font size. I can show one subtitle in the viewer, select the text, and make the change I want. I then click "apply to stream" in the formatting section of the subtitle inspector. This is supposed to apply the formatting change I've just made to the entire subtitle stream, but it doesn't. The rest of the subtitles remain unchanged.
    I've done this before in the past and had it work, but I don't remember the details, so don't know if I was doing something slightly differently. I'm using DVDSP 4.1.2 with Snow Leopard, and this is the first time I've used it since the Snow Leopard update, so that could also be a factor. Any suggestions would be appreciated

    Hi Ralph,
    I am far from being expert, but I have been working on a 2-DVD-project with 4 language subtitles for a while now and this is what I can offer as advice:
    It seems, the font size is not changeable for the whole track within DVDSP.
    The default font size in the prefs is only affecting new subs. I did make my subs outside DVDSP - following the advice of many forums - and had set the size there. As I had read frequently, there used to be a software subtitle Xtractor that you could use to extract the subtitles (indirectly) from DVDSP (read in this forum about it). Unfortunately I do not know which format you end up with. In any case with some formats - like spruce subtitle format - you can specify a parameter in the beginning of the file for size, color, etc.
    This is an example for a header in this format:
    =================================
    //Font select and font size
    $FontName = Verdana
    $FontSize = 20
    //Character attributes (global)
    $Bold = FALSE
    $UnderLined = FALSE
    $Italic = FALSE
    //Position Control
    $HorzAlign = Center
    $VertAlign = Bottom
    $XOffset = 0
    $YOffset = 0
    //Contrast Control
    $TextContrast = 15
    $Outline1Contrast = 8
    $Outline2Contrast = 15
    $BackgroundContrast = 0
    //Effects Control
    $ForceDisplay = FALSE
    $FadeIn = 0
    $FadeOut = 0
    //Other Controls
    $TapeOffset = FALSE
    //$SetFilePathToken = <<:>>
    //Subtitles
    00:01:06:14,00:01:16:27,first subtitle text
    00:01:16:27,00:01:24:07,second subtitle text, etc.
    =================================
    So, once you have extracted your subtitle with Xtractor, you can try to convert it into this format - eg. using Subtitle Workshop - quite a good Freeware Subtitle Editor I used on Windows (NOT the new beta version, the previous one) - to convert your subtitle file.
    Once this is done, open it in a text editor and paste the header at the beginning of the file.
    One thing to take care of: When making new sub files in Subtitle Workshop it will be Windows encoded. When finished, open it from Microsoft Excel and in the upcoming converting dialog choose "Windows" as the file origin to convert into Macformat. Once opened, save as "Text with Tabs".
    Into that textfile you copy the header.
    Hope this contains helpful infos for you.
    all the best

  • Smooth subtitle text edges?

    Is there a way to make smooth subtitles in Encore? It seems like the normal subtitle option in Encore makes the edges of the subtitle text so strict, that it doesn't look smooth. Is there a trick to achieve smoother subtitles like with smooth antialiasing with the Encore's own subtitles? If not, are there certain fonts that you use in Encore that look smoother than the others, please share?
    Or do you need to import the subtitles as images to get them look smoother, or are the same restrictions applied there as well what comes to the antialiasing? Thanks.

    If by "Mac Dictate", you mean the built in speech-to-text feature, no, you can't use that to convert a voice memo, at least not easily. Speech-to-text is designed to work on live speech, not recordings. But, there's no harm in trying.

    I have an iphone 5. I have no idea of the ios version in it. Recently i broke my iphone screen and its showing up nothing. it was never synced to itunes or to any pc. When i tried to connect iphone to itunes in my pc it was asking for passcode which i had forgotten ages ago. Suggest me the possible ways to recover my iphone.

    Since the screen doesn't work, it will be challenging to get it working, even thru iTunes. You will need to ask yourself if you want to invest more money in it or get a new one, especially since the contents will be lost since you don't know the passcode. Apple will gladly replace the screen for a cost that represents a significant portion of the price of a new. Once the screen is done, you may or may not be eligible for the free iPhone 5 Battery Replacement Program.
    Or, if you decide to salvage it and are strong of heart and firm of hand, you can replace the screen yourself for less. See here and note they carry kits with all needed tools and parts.

    If it is asking for the screen-lock passcode then:
    Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • Iphone 4 makes calls but screen is black and the power button doesnt work. never synced to computer or photo stream. I dont want to lose my photos

    So, my Iphone 4 now has a black screen. Before it did this I unlocked the screen (which has a passcode) try to open instagram and the screen flashed and went black. I can make calls and it seems to send messages but I dont know for sure because the screen is black. The power button (sleep) does not work and when I try to reset the phone it makes a call. I never synced it to a computer or Itunes and I didnt start photo stream. I want to preserve the pictures because it has photos of family members that have passed. Is there a way to get the photos?? Help please!

    If you have attempted the reset, which is holding the home button and sleep/wake button, was it still connected to the computer? Have you tried to do that when not connected. You stated it never came on, how long did you hold the buttons together? If you cannot get it to connect to iTunes then you would not be able to restore the device. You can see if you can put the device into Recovery Mode by following the instructions in this support document. If that does not work, then you are correct, make an appointment at the Apple Store. If you can't update or restore your iOS device

  • How can I unlock ipod touch 5th gen currently disabled and never sync'd with itunes

    Basic situation. Ipod touch 5th gen. Passcode forgotten and tried too many times such that ipod is disabled and requested to connect to iTunes.  Problem is that the ipod was never sync'd with iTunes so the connection fails.  I've only owned it for 9 months or so.  I know I can recover all my music through iTunes and my applications through the app store since all of my content was legally purchased.  The problem is that I need to also recover my contacts and pictures since this is the only place they exist.
    I have read about methods up to 4th generation where you can access a particular file on the device via computer and rename it to unlock the device. That would most likely allow me to then sync/backup via iTunes and recover my data.  Problem is that I can only access the DCIM folder via windows manager and it contains no data. Perhaps there is a way to access the device a different way?
    Is there a way with the 5th generation to either reset the lock (from disabled to locked with a 1 min wait for retry as an example) to allow me more opportunities to try other passcodes that I may have set (including mistypes etc) or to remove the passcode completely and let me set it to something I will write down this time?
    Please do not reply with the standard apple responses of 'sync with itunes' or 'factory reset' and no, I did not sync with the icloud either (I tried but it was unsuccessful for some reason).
    The answer doesn't even have to be a free one as I would be willing to pay for the solution if it were guaranteed to work.  Since apple seems to want to charge for any type of support, even to ask a question, I am relying on the community for help.  Thanks much.

    You have to place the iPod in Recovery mode as Apple says and erase the device. It is a security feature.
    or
    If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
    You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.
    There is not other way

         same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
    A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
    If you need to restore your device or ff you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
    Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
    Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
    Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
             option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
             necessary to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
             you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
               After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
              to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
              iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup. If you do not have a
              backup to restore, then restore as New.
