CPU Meter in transport only showing 2 cores

Ever since the 9.1.2 update, the CPU meter in the transport bar is only showing 2 cores (I have 8 cores). However, if I option-x to see a floating CPU and HD window, all 8 cores appear. Anyone else with this problem?

Addenddum:
I only see 1 load-bar in the transport CPU-meter. Its amplitude is the amplitude of the heaviest used core, but there also is a thin yellow line within the one bar showing the average load over all cores (I think).

  • CPU meter on logic. Showing only one part.

    Hey again.
I've noticed the CPU meter shows 6 separate meters, although they all show some use, the lowermost one appears to be doing the most work, and from time to time maxes out, especially when bouncing. Could I be sacrificing performance?

Well I only have a quad core.
But it still shows 6 down the bottom. When I dc on the meter, it shows 8, two of which are inactive, 1,5&6 show activity most of the time, but when logic is playing the first 5 show almost equal activity, and 6 shows nothing.
This brings more to my attention. I assumed each bar corresponds to each core. But I have 8 bars.. And the disk I/O.
I have limited knowledge of the specifics of hardware, but normally enough to get me by... Always willing to learn tho.

  • T440s - i7-4600U CPU - ONLY ONE core operating :((

    Hi,
I am an owner of Thinkpad T440s ultrabook, which has Intel i7 4600U CPU installed (exact model is 20AQ006BMC - the one with GeForce 730M graphic card).
Regarding to the documentation on Intel website, this CPU should have 2 cores and 4 threads (Hyperthreading). But when I start CPU-Z utility, it shows me, that I have only one core and two threads available. Same thing displays my process manager in Windows 8.1 - 1 core and 2 logical processors.
Any ideas, what could cause this problem?
    Thank you.

And there is also screenshot from CPU-Z utility and there it shows correctly 2 cores and 4 threads:
So any idea, what could be an issue? Should I use warranty service? because it looks to me like a broken CPU

Note: If one or both of the first two Options is disabled at the moment and you have to enable them, Windows may not boot anymore.  You will have to Re-install the OS or try a repair installation.  Windows XP is not able to automatically adjust to the changes automatically.
There is a fastest way without bother to repair or reinstall OS..
We can force desired HAL by this way, the method used is very usefull and can be applied even when OS doesn't provide choice for manual HAL update.
(etc: desired HAL is not listed as choice... Windows often becomes rather stupid...):
Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC  & ACPI Uniprocessor PC  use the same kernels, etc: only specify hal is enough:
in boot.ini ---> /hal=halacpi.dll (for Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC) and /hal=halaacpi.dll (for ACPI Uniprocessor PC)
NOTE: files should already exist into system32 folder. file version should match with currently version installed. if you got SP2 get files from here:
"C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386\sp2.cab", open with winzip and get correct hal which you need:
Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC  ----> halacpi.dll
    ACPI Uniprocessor PC ------->  halaacpi.dll
    ACPI Multiprocessor PC -------> halmacpi.dll
or use microsoft expand if you don't have winzip:
    cmd, go to C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386\
    type from there:
    expand sp2.cab -F:myhal.dll c:\windows\system32
    where myhal.dll= your chosen hal (halacpi.dll, halaacpi.dll or halmacpi.dll)
for XP without SP2, same procedure but look for HAL files into "\I386" XP installation folder(and those syntax from there:)
    expand HALACPI.DL_ %systemroot%\system32\HALACPI.DLL
    or expand HALMACPI.DL_ %systemroot%\system32\HALMACPI.DLL
    or expand HALAACPI.DL_ %systemroot%\system32\HALAACPI.DLL
or to force directly to default hal:
booting from recovery console command prompt, or from other location and load NTFS mounter with read&write NTFS support:
navigate to root OS drive and go to OS root directory(%windir%) into system32 folder:
example: (where C is OS root drive, and "windows" is OS root folder)
    C:
    cd windows\system32
    ren hal.dll hal.old
    cd "c:\windows\driver cache\i386"
    expand sp2.cab -F:myhal.dll c:\windows\system32    /* where myhal.dll should be replaced with one of chosen hal: halacpi.dll, halaacpi.dll or halmacpi.dll */
    cd "c:\windows\driver cache\i386"
    ren myhal.dll hal.dll  /* where myhal.dll should be replaced with one of chosen hal: halacpi.dll, halaacpi.dll or halmacpi.dll */
for ACPI Multiprocessor PC we need to update kernels too, go to c:\windows\system32 and make backup 1st: (under pure DOS, or different OS)
    force ACPI Multiprocessor PC:
    cd c:\windows\system32
    ren ntkrnlpa.exe ntkrnlpa.old
    ren ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.old
ren hal.dll hal.old                                 /* backup hal too, gona replace it also */
    cd "c:\windows\driver cache\i386"
    expand sp2.cab -F:halmacpi.dll c:\windows\system32
    expand sp2.cab -F:ntkrpamp.exe c:\windows\system32
    expand sp2.cab -F:ntkrnlmp.exe c:\windows\system32
    cd c:\windows\system32
    ren halmacpi.dll hal.dll
    ren ntkrpamp.exe ntkrnlpa.exe
    ren ntkrnlmp.exe ntoskrnl.exe
reboot PC you have done, no modification into boot.ini is required. at XP startup will detect new hal installed and will be asked for reboot. you have switched to ACPI Multiprocessor PC.
You can review default HAL files and restore it if you don't have backup(if you skip or forgot to make backup) from looking here: \Windows\Repair\Setup.log search for "HAL" inside will find original file name locations.
also HAL query can be obtained from this registry key: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\ACPI_HAL\0000\HardwareID
The thing that need to take attention is that:
Make sure that HAL along with both kernels will be from same SP, etc: if you currently use SP2 dig for HAL file & kernels in:
    C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386\sp2.cab
respective if you are using SP3:
    C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386\sp3.cab
If no there is no SP installed look for them in I386 folder in XP installation disk.
Takes less than 2 minutes, and switch to desired HAL without troubles.

    Hello Achates:
I did not read the rather long post. If you wish to reinstall OS X 10.4, use your software install DVD. Backup is essential. To minimize your risk, I would use an archive and install:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
In that way, you will have a fresh copy of OS X and your current settings will be preserved.
Incidentally, I do not agree that the printer problem is best solved by reinstalling OS X. I have had HP printers for sometime and, on one occasion, had difficulty after an upgrade. HP technical support walked me through uninstalling all traces of the HP driver and then reinstalling.

  • Phenom x4 9950 on MSI k9a2 CF v2, shows only 2 core running on Task Manager

is that normal, seeing only two cores running? isn't it supposed to show four since it is a quad core processor. I don't know if this is common on the motherboard.

Actually running on Windows 7. The MSconfig menu are similar as Vista. I had boot option set to two core when I had my AMD Athlon X2. Then I upgraded to Phenom X4. The setting was still there in the boot advanced option, so I have to uncheck it and restart it to see the all four core running.

  • Logic cpu meter spike while recording / monitoring?

Hey, I just checked Logic's internal CPU meter, and noticed something quite weird is happening.
I have only ever had one overload message, which I think was caused by changing a BFD2 setting, so the fact Logic believes that it's maxing out one of my cores confuses me a little more.
Anyway, in a template project (just unused audio tracks), if I click the record (or the monitor) button, my first core tops out in Logic's meter, but in the activity monitor, little changes, and sometimes even shows the load changing between cores, with Logic still insisting the overloading core is doing the work.
If I deselect the button, the core returns to no/little load. It doesn't seem to affect Logic's performance, but I'm more than curious about this.
Anyone have the same thing happen to them, or is there a reason for this?

    From another post of mine:
An observation about lopsided CPU behaviour: a reliable source(an AU and hardware developer) remarked the other day that according to his tests all stuff that is on record enabled/monitored tracks can only run in a single thread using the (small) i/o buffer on one CPU.
This 'real time' CPU can easily be overloaded, while the rest of the CPU's may be idling.
You can have loads and loads of CPU hungry stuff on tracks that are in playback mode(and that use a large buffer because logic knows what is coming) on an octocore, but for record/monitor enabled tracks the octocore is just as good as a single core/cpu machine with the same specs(CPU speed/cache/RAM speed etc.)
Haven't tested this myself yet, but is sounds plausible and it would certainly explain some of the trouble I've seen with CPU overtloads.

Beyond that, Nokia are entirely responsible for both the quality of the hardware they make and the software they provide to run it. They may choose to outsource the software creation, but they can't outsource the responsibility.
Not exactly. Nokia does not write or maintain the interface software to the MTP client in Windows Phone. This is part of the core OS and as such is the responsibility of Microsoft. The specifications clearly state the software requirements and for the most part if these are met things work as expected.
The minimum requirement is Windows XP SP3 with Windows Media Player 10. The MTP drivers are included with WMP here and in later versions of Windows are part of the OS. The software on the phone is only a client to this software and will expect the host t o be properly configured and set up to be able to communicate. It is fairly certain that in this case it is the host which is not working properly as I have myself seen multiple minimal spec system doing fine.
The point of the discussion so far was that the instigator assumed we (or I if you must) were basically saying he should update to 7 or 8 which is simply not the case. From the first response it wasmade clear what the min spec is. The phone as is is fine so there is no issue there at all. From a personal point of view I think it would benefit anyone greatly to at least upgrade to Windows 7 at least for too many reasons to mention but obviously anyone is free to stay with XP but they should not expect the rest of the world to do the same or expect indefinate support for a decade old OS. There is no current OS fo which the 10 year old version is currently still supported. The fact XP still runs most software is a testament of it's sturdyness and quality, but it will fall behind very quickly over the next few years.
Windows XP is an end of life OS for which mainstream support ended FOUR years ago and extended support will end in a year. At best it is now in maintenance mode with only critical patches being released but no further development of the OS has been done for a few years now. Windows 7 is the de-facto version of Windows now and it should be he minimal requirement for any current and future software development. XP support should be seen as a bonus.

  • Logic 8 cpu meter

    Hello,
I have a first generation MacBookPro core duo 2.8 with 2 gb ram. When playing a song within LP8, I see that bottom cpu meter going crazy up to "red" while top one remains only lower lever somewhere between 10%.
It appears that only on of the core is doing all the audio processing while the other one is taking a rest. This is causing pops and clicks.
is there a way to tweak the config so that LP8 uses both cores equally?
    Thanks in advance..
    M

This has been a very hot topic. If you search around you'll find tons of threads talking about the dreaded core overload message, and along with that is discussion about the issue if processor distribution.
The short answer is no, you can't do anything to spread it more evenly. Even though Logic can use multiple cores, each individual plug-in will only use one so a processor heavy plug will cause one to peak like that.
If it's not cause real issues even though it's going in the red, don't worry too much about it. It sounds like for you it's causing clicks and pops, so here are some things to try:
Make sure your Airport card is OFF
    Increase the buffer.
Set the 'Process Buffer Range' to LARGE.
Try with both the I/O Safety Buffer ON and OFF. People are reporting varying different things with this setting, but for me it will KILL my performance.
    Good Luck!

  • Does logic use only one core fore bouncing?

When I bounce a project the CPU activity shows only one core working at full level. The other seems to sleep? Can you confirm that?

    Anybody out there????

  • [SOLVED] Htop only shows last 2 system load values

I have the latest htop (1.0.3) installed on my desktop. The system load meter only shows the last 2 (5 and 15 minute) load averages. Top and uptime display all three values.
How can I get htop to display all three load averages?

I had searched my filesystem for a htoprc before, I'm not sure why I couldn't find it at that time.
I can't find any fields that seem to be related to this in the htoprc.

  • MBP i7 - Logic uses only 1 core?

Is there something I need to do in the settings to make use of the second processor in my i7 mbp? I just downloaded the new version and I have been using it all day so far with projects up to 32 tracks and logic has only used one of my processors the whole time. I read about the update causing problem with quad cores but this is just the dual core i7 in a macbook pro. Logic should use both of my cores correct?
Thank you for any help or advice,
    Todd

Thank you for the help Blueberry.
I copy and pasted that exact code into terminal. Then I restarted logic. On the CPU/disk meter I still only see 2 cores just like before and only 1 of those cores is used no matter what I do in logic. I notice no difference in performance. Maybe that is only for the quad core i7's and not the MBP dual core i7's ??
On a side note, I'm using a RME fireface UC and I get random pops and clicks with Ivory 2, piano virtual instrument, even with a buffer of 128 samples set. That is with only one track, one instrument loaded up! The 1 cpu core is working hard too. Kinda a bummer considering the is the top of the line right now for apple's laptops. Seems like I downgraded.
