CPU time sending/receiving with TCP

Hello all,
I need to know how long it takes in the CPU to have the OS establish a TCP connection against another machine, and also to send/received TCP packets to/from that machine.
Say it's Solaris 9 and any CPU you are familiar with as an example (Intel, Sparc...)
Thank you in advance

In the end I found a IEEE report where they tested Solaris 8 on Pentium 500 MHz. In a few words and ideally, it seems that TCP connections were allocated in around 0.6 ms during that test.

    I have:
    Disabled add-ons
Tried Outlook in safe mode but still crashes
    Uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook
    Ran scanpst.exe
I have even installed this mailbox profile on a different computer that had a functioning Outlook profile on it, and it now causes the same issue after syncing from the Microsoft
    Exchange server.
So, I logged into the Microsoft Portal online and checked for any emails that did not download from the webmail app to the Outlook box in case there was a corrupted email.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Many Thanks!

    Hi,
Since the Faulting module is mso.dll, please browse to:
    C:\\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\office 14.
Find mso.dll and rename it to mso.old. Then go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features to repair Office, a new mso.dll should be generated, open Outlook to check if the issue is fixed.
As you mentioned the issue persists on another machine with the same mailbox, I suggest you use the tool MFCMAPI to see if there's any items stuck in the mailbox.
    To download the tool:
    http://mfcmapi.codeplex.com/releases/view/127629
Open the mailbox with the tool, then go to QuickStart -> Open Folder -> Inbox, check if there's anything stuck there which doesn't sync to Outlook. I suggest you order the items by size, since large items are more likely to be stuck.

  • Send file with TCP/IP

I would like to transfer a complete file with TCP/IP form a client to a server. I have a working example of using the TCP protocol to transmit data (as a string). I attached this Client-VI to this posting. The server program does nothing more than send the received data back to the client. Is it possible to send complete files with TCP/IP instead of sending strings? If so, would you be so kind and change my VI into a new one and send it back to me?
If somebody has another idea to solve this problem, feel free to contact me!
I use LabVIEW 7.0Express and WindowsXP.

    Hi,
I have a set of Vis that do the job. It's a LV5 Vi and I haven't translated it yet to LV7. It's two SubVis and two Vis that show you how to run the SubVis. The client asks a file that is in the server and the server sends it back. I'm attaching the two libraries llb, the client library and the server library. Please contact me if you have questions.

  • Mpi Send / Receive Comm Time with IO Streams

I'm currently benchmarking Mpi like software on a cluster and I ran into a strange discrepency in communication time.
For simplicity here, I'll be referring to simple synchronous send / receive commands in which 8 bytes of data are sent or received during each command.
In a two compartment case, the compartments are connected via a Socket and the input/output streams are pulled from the socket. In the most simple case, compartment 1 sends a double value to compartment 2, and this repeats 1e6 times. In doing this the average communication time per send / receive operation is about 1 microsecond.
In the next more complex case, compartment 1 sends a double value to compartment 2, then compartment 2 sends that double value back to compartment 1.
This is where communication time increases to 10 microseconds (on the same Compute Node) or up to 100 microseconds (inbetween different Copute Nodes).
At first I was doing the send and receive on the same socket using it's input and outputstreams. To make sure that wasn't a bottleneck, I separated the 2way communication into two different sockets, but that large communication time still existed. (No significant change).
With one-way communication, even with the blocking send/receive methods, communication is still remarkebly fast (1 us). So what I'm trying to figure out is: why does this increase 100 times when doing a send & receive, then the reverse operation?

Looks like low entropy could be the cause. Here are some useful links:

How would I set up the server so that rngd feeds /dev/random with entropy from /dev/urandom, such that this modification sticks upon reboot (so I don't need to remember to execute some command line statement upon every reboot)?

  • Help with iPad Identifying Phone Numbers in iMessage Send & Receive Settings / iMessage Syncing Help - iOS 6 - iPhone - iPad

With iOS6, iPhone and iPad users will see that their Send & Receive iMessage settings have updated across their devices to be made available at both phone numbers and email addresses. You may have also seen alerts on one or more of your devices advising that another device is now using the same Apple ID/phone number for iMessage.
Being able to be reached on iMessage on both Apple ID and phone numbers across devices means that iMessage can keep the same thread and sync across devices.
Due to having 2 iPhones on different phone numbers running along side my iPad at one time, (whilst I was waiting for my phone number to be moved to a new provider), my iMessage settings on my iPad lost my phone number completely. I thought I would document the steps to recover this for anyone in the same boat.
    1. Check that you are signed in with the same iCloud Account on both iPad and iPhone.
    2. Turn off iMessage on your iPad from Settings > Messages.
    3. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. You should see your phone number and your iCloud email address in the 'Your can be reached by iMessage at:' list. Make sure both are ticked.
    4. At this point, I synced my iPhone with iTunes, then synced my iPad with iTunes.
    5. On your iPad, turn iMessage back on - your phone number should now show in the 'You can be reached by iMessage at:' list. Tick the phone number. You should receive an alert on your iPhone.
    This should resolve the issue.
With the above set up and with the iOS 6 updates, iMessage should now sync fine across devices however I have still found the most successful way to run iMessage is to always start new conversations from your Apple ID and to start new threads by addressing the first message to an Apple ID from an Apple ID.
To do this, go to Settings > iMessage > Send & Receive and tick your Apple ID in the 'Start new conversations from:' list, then start a new iMessage thread to the recipients Apple ID. This way, the thread will sync across iPad and iPhone. Note that a thread set up this way will not fall back on SMS, so you get a clean iMessage thread. This method also worked/works on iOS 5, as long as you send the first message of a new thread from an iPad (which can only send via Apple ID) to an Apple ID.
    Hopefully this helped someone!

ipad has no phone number, you use a same email address for both devices. and set it in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive

  • I have BIS but can't send/receive email, surf with internet browser

i have BB Curve 8520. My BIS was running smoothly (sending and receiving emails real time and surfing the net through BIS), until i noticed when i tried to reply to an email that came in, it won't send. i noticed that it's fluctuating. i was able to send the email after a few minutes... then a few minutes later, i received a replied email from my friend, and when i tried to send my reply, i wasn't able to. also, i can't surf using the browser with the "internet browser" as default. i tried using my wifi and then suddenly all my emails started coming in, all emails that were not able to go through hours ago. my big question was why do i need to turn on wifi just to receive emails. but since i had my BIS for 2 months now, i can send and receive emails and surf through BIS itself without turning on the wifi.  also, i can't use any of my apps like facebook, twitter, yahoo messenger, etc.  They used to work fine with BIS... but now, i have to turn on the wifi connection, so i could log in with them.  aren't these supposed to be running through BIS only?
I have GPRS on top, not gprs.
so, i wiped out my BB and deleted all third party apps. when this was done, i received emails telling me "Your handheld has been registered with the wireless network" and even got "Activation Server" emails telling me that the emails that i have previously set up are now up and running. so i thought my BB is now ok.. i tried surfing, it was okay. after like about 5 minutes, it was down again. tried sending email but can't... i turned on the wifi and boom! the emails started coming in again.
i have the Host Routing Tables and my Service Books in my BB. I have GPRS (not gprs) on top which means i have active BIS.  i have registered my HRTs several times... and resending my service books... same thing...
-My carrier has not reported any data outage.
    - I'm in an area where I've had RIM data services (for months now). It has always been working well. I've never really had any problems with my BIS until 4 days ago when it just suddenly stopped sending/receiving emails, surfing through internet browser, using facebook, twitter, ym apps, etc..
-the big mystery is when i turn on the wifi, the emails suddenly go through and i can send emails. i can open apps that used to only run on BIS. this is ok i guess, but i could never do any of these if i'm not connected to wifi.
-i've read somewhere that it may be some application error or something, so I've wiped out my BB thrice now, deleted all third party apps, everything is clean i guess, but still I end up with the same problem.
-i updated my OS, same problem.. wiped it out... used BBSAK, reinstalled OS... same thing...
can you help me out with this? i have tried battery pull, wipe out and OS reinstallation lots of times but same problem happens...

  • Slow email send/receive for user associated with beehiveonline

It takes hours to send/receive an email to/from the user associated with my beehiveonline workspace. Also, the number of emails that we receive has decreased, it may be not related at all, but there is no way for me to check if that's just due to low customer activity or to timeouts.

  • TWO PROBLEMS:( BLACKBERRY CURVE 9300) 1) Unable to send/receive e-mails 2) black square with a minute hand whizzing round

    Hello,
    I have a BLACKBERRY CURVE 9300
i would be most grateful if someone could help me with persistent problems, which ive previously enlisted the help of T-mobile to resolve but to no avail.
    1) I am unable to send/ receive e-mails, this has been an ongoing problem which seems to sort itself out for a short while then returns, i have been asked  to remove e-mail accounts from device and re-boot, and as i say works for a short time then starts again.
    2) I have this annoying black square in the middle of the screen with like a second hand whizzing round which can sometimes last ages. I was told by t-mobile this was due to not doing regular device updates, i have since done this and as i type continue to see this symbol.
Any advice/suggestions would be gratefully received.
    Thankyou.

The spinning clock is usually an indicator of low memory. Make sure you are completely closing apps your aren't using by using the close or exit option in the menu instead of just backing out of the app with the escape key. Also check your memory after you have rebooted your device. If it is still low then you may have to delete apps you absolutely don't need or use to get memory back.
As for the email issue I am assuming you have a data plan since you have tried to fix the problem with Tmobile. If you haven't done so you may have to re-register your phone on the network and or log into Tmobile's BIS site to resend your service books.

Using Windows mail I have to close/open the programme to be able to send mails, they get stuck in the Outbox. By closing and reopening the programme the mail gets sent. Also the Blue figure 1 in brackets showning 1 unread mail in the Outbox is there all the time although there is no mails read or unread in the Outbox

  • Cant receive or send emails with iphone4s

i have been fighting with my phone since i got it.  previously had a 3s and entered the settings identically several times with no luck.  i did some tests today and i found that i cant receive emails when i am connected to wifi.  I wonder if i can send/receive when wifi is turned on but not connected?

Delete the account on your iPad and set it up again. This is a currently a common problem with Yahoo accounts.

  • Problems with sending/receiving picture messages

Does anyone know how to sort problems with sending/receiving picture messages on the iphone 4S?  I've gone through all the re-setting etc at the place I bought it and it still doesn't work!! Spoken to 02 and they said it's an issue with Apple software?? Any help appreciated.

Can you send/receive SMS's? If so, and you can't send/receive MMS's, and MMS is turned on in Settings, 99.9% of the time the problem is on your carrier's end...most likely MMS is not provisioned properly on your account, regardless of what your carrier is telling you. Call back & have them remove MMS from your account & then re-provision your account for MMS.

  • Troubble with outlook: Automatically Sending/receiving 600+ tasks

    Hello!
A customer to me is having some troubble with outlook 2010 automatically sending/receiving...
His outlook is set to automatically send and receive but the problem is that sometimes it performs over 600 tasks (see picture). this problem occurs a coupple of times per week and is quite frankly annoying.
The solutions i have tried so far are:
Turn off all programs and restart the computer.
    Search the computer for virus/malware.
Looked for a datafile that could possibly make this happen.
Made sure that Cached exchange-mode is off.
Asked him to replace his keyboard if that might be the issue. (not configrmed yet though)
    Create a new outlook profile.
    Regards,
    Joakim Alm

    Hi Joakim,
Does it take long time to process Send/Receive in Outlook 2010? Please do the following changes:
    1. Check whether there is any Anti-virus in the machine scanning all incoming and\or outgoing mails. If it is, please disable it.
    2. Launch Outlook 2010 into safe mode, so that no COM Add-ins are loaded. And run Send/Receive and try to reproduce the behavior:
Click Start | Run | On the Open: line type (without quotes) “Outlook.exe /safe” | Click OK\Enter
    3. If the issue continues in Outlook safe mode, please change a computer to configure the account to have a try.

  • Muti-User TCP Send/Receive Sample

Does anyone have a link to a video tut for showing how to do a Multi-User TCP Send/Receive Sample? I know there is a drag and drop tool you can use but Im interested in making it by hand to better understand how to program it my self. At some point I want
to use this information to make a simple game that sends and receives data packets between two machines for a simple "fighting" game.

conceptually, simple network programming is pretty easy. here is a excerpt from a prior post that may help you getstarted
ok, there are a few fundamentals to cover.
    1) a network communication consists of:
a server program listening on one of the server's ports (in this context port and socket are synonymous).
a network path from client port to server port (I mention ports, because firewalls often filter on them, breaking the path).
a client application sending data to a local socket
a common  data format that both the client and server will use.
    2) the network acts as an intermediary to pass data between systems, but the data itself is system agnostic, so theres not really such a thing a java data. just data that was put in a format/encoding by whatever language.
so your question has two parts:
    1) how to send to a server socket.
    2) how to format the data so that the server understands it.
In terms of sending and receiving data, the system.net.sockets library is what you want, though Cor recommends using wcf. I've not worked with it, but here is a sample I worked up while exploring the http protocol:
    Module Module1
    Sub Main()
    Dim req As String = "GET / HTTP/1.1" & ControlChars.CrLf & ControlChars.CrLf
    Using sock As New Sockets.TcpClient()
    Try
    Console.WriteLine("Connecting...")
    sock.Connect("www.google.com", 80)
    If sock.Connected Then
    Console.WriteLine("Connected. Sending request...")
    Dim ns As Sockets.NetworkStream = sock.GetStream()
    Console.WriteLine(ReadResponse(ns))
Dim sendBytes As Byte() = System.Text.ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetBytes(req)
    If ns.CanWrite Then
    ns.Write(sendBytes, 0, sendBytes.Length)
    Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000)
    Else
    Console.WriteLine("Stream not writable")
    End If
    Console.WriteLine(ReadResponse(ns))
    Else
    Console.WriteLine("Failed to connect")
    End If
    Catch ex As Exception
    Console.WriteLine(ex.Message & vbNewLine & ex.StackTrace)
    End Try
    sock.Close()
    Console.WriteLine("Press Enter to exit")
    Console.ReadLine()
    End Using
    End Sub
Public Function ReadResponse(ByVal ns As Sockets.NetworkStream) As String
Dim ret As String = "Response: "
Dim resp As String = ""
    If ns.CanRead And ns.DataAvailable Then
    Using sr As New IO.StreamReader(ns)
    While sr.Peek <> -1
    resp &= vbNewLine & sr.ReadLine()
    End While
    End Using
    End If
    Return ret & resp
    End Function
    End Module
it sends the data "GET / HTTP/1.1" to google, and reads the response. its just throwaway code, but should give you a good example.
so, for a p2p IM application, I would have two sockets per client, one listening for incoming messages, and one sending to the remote box's listening port.
once you have your sockets established its primarily reading and writing to the network stream that the connected sockets provide.
Look it over and see if that doesn't help address some of your conceptual questions.
    Edit:
as others have pointed out down the thread, this is far from perfect implementation, so if you are not in the us or on a slow connection, results may vary. seee below for details.
