Cracked (physically) iPhone windows

I just got an iPhone two days ago, and ever since I have been telling everyone how great it is. Last night I dropped the phone from literally waist height onto a hardwood floor. The window now has a large crack running across the face.
I went to the local apple store and called the online help and got the same 'the warranty doesn't cover this' spiel. Of course they suggested to get it repaired for $250.
Am I wrong to think that it's reasonable to assume a cell phone can withstand this type of fall? It was really unremarkable. I was shocked to see the new spiderweb when I picked it up.
I wanted to get one for my wife, but now I'm not so sure. Has anyone had a similar experience? Was I just unlucky, or is this really a design flaw?

I would think that dropping a phone and damaging it regardless of who the manufacturer might be is not considered to be inside of the warranty protection.
If Apple were to fix every iPhone for issues outside of the warranty, while it may be a wonderful gesture, it is an extremely expensive proposition.
The repair, while it may be costly to you, is perfectly justified on the part of Apple. Does it cost them $250.00 to replace the glass, who knows.
It would be nice if Apple had provided an insurance plan for damage outside of Warranty. Apple probably would come out on the plus side of the P & L if they were to provide insurance for things that are outside of Warranty, like breaking the glass, or denting the case, or theft. Maybe someday.

    Unless you purchased Applecare+ you will be charged $269 for a replacement phone. Screen breakage is not covered by the Apple one year warranty. If you purchased Applecare+ you will get charged $79 for a replacement phone.

  • Iphone Windows 7 Photos not recognised

    I apologise as there are many questions reference the problems with iphones windows 7 & 64bit PC's but I cannot find a solution on here.
    I have a new PC at work, 64bit & Windows 7. I do not have itunes on this PC, I just use it for charging & downloading photos.
    On plugging the phone in, it see's it, but if I click on the import videos and pictures it says there is nothing on the phone... and there are. Honest!
    I've also looked under explorer, which shows me the DCIM folder but that also say's there is nothing in it.
    Any ideas? As it's confused the living biscuit out of me!

    Actually, this just appeared in the window next to my last post - and although its ref an XP machine, seems its the 64bit is the problem, not the windows 7

    As you probably know by now, iTunes and the iPhone are not supported on the 64-bit version of Windows XP. Though I can't say for sure, my guess is that they never will be since even Microsoft seems to be running away from the 64-bit XP as fast as they can in favor of Vista.
    Well in that case - is there a way using itunes you can remove photos from your iphone? If there is, I might just have to 'annoyingly' beg work to allow me to install it. Meh.

Appreciate any advice to see all 500+ Contacts on all devices.

    Audiobooks normally only allow one download per purchase; this is also the case with alert tones, ringtones, and some movies. They need to be moved manually; if desired, you can network the computers and use file sharing instead of a thumbdrive.

    I am quite new to AE and need some guidance.
    I do know how to do some basic keyframe animation and looking for some guidance regarding the process.
    I already did some research so please help me fill in the gaps and correct me if i am wrong.

    1. Creating 960x640 canvas (iPhone5 screen)
    2. Animating assets inside
    3. Pre-coming — will it create a mask at this stage to hide the scroll?
    4. Re-sizing canvas to match my background picture with iphone
    5. Applying effect to transform the comp and fit it on top of my iPhone so it looks like the screen. — Whats the effect name for this?

    If the ipHone is moving you're in for a real surprise. Assuming your iPhone image is static, you're going to use corner pin. That's about all there is to it.
    See the effects reference in AE help to learn about corner pinning. it will produce a scale and perspective shift for you. you will apply the four corners of the pin effect to the four corners of your iPhone window. This can get as complicated as you want it to but that's all you need so solve this one problem.

My mom said that my insurance on the phone made me have to get a refurbished phone from them instead of just being able to replace the screen. The phone I just got last week still works, just the screen is cracked. I heard that the apple store can replace the screen very cheap if you bring it in to them. I don't know if they require you to go through your insurance policy on the phone for that option or not. I just don't know what I am allowed to do.

    Some Apple stores can replace the screen, contact your local store to see if they offer this option.  If they do, it's $149US for a screen replacement.
    Apple does not offer insurance, contact whomever provides the insurance for other options.
    Depending on what has been done to this device, meaning if it was "refurbished" from the insurance provider, Apple may not touch it.
    Also, be more careful with your devices, put it in a case and stop dropping it.

  • Safari Hangs and Can't Sync or backup My iPhone Windows XP on PC

    I had this problem where I could not Sync my iPhone because it could not backup and at the same time, my Safri would open but just hange. This happend after doing some Widows updates and Safari and iTuines updates.The CPU usage went up to 50% for Safari and 50% for the mobile device process.

    everything is up to date. i have the latest copy of itunes and my iphone has 6.1.3.  I updated my profile as you suggested but still wont work. this is the only computer my iphone has ever been sync'd too so this is troubling to me that all of a sudden it wont sync or back up. should I do a recovery mode reset?

    Sounds to me like your phone is broken as well. Without a backup you've likely lost your data. You could try taking it into an Apple store or contact them and see if they have any way recovering your data. Likely not but worth a try.

    Use the "Search Discussions" (upper right of this page) and use "question mark" as the search term. Limit the search to QuickTime.
    Look for pages that have the green "Solved" star at the top of the page to find the answer.

    It is depends on how you crack your device. Is it by an accident?
    Do you have iCare? If yes, check the warranty coverage. If the iCare warranty covers this kind of accident, probably they will fix the problem in your old iPhone, or give to you a new one of the same model (iPhone 4S).
