CRASHING in Win98-JInternalFrame

Good Day,
I am trying to run an Java3D application under Windows 98, but I keep on crashing on specific circumstances. I am opening serval JInternalFrames inside a JDesktopPane, some of the windows are 3D models being rotated on average every 100 ms. Upon startup the program loads and displays the models, however if I move windows around and try to rearrange window by tiling them, I consistently crash, under 1.4.1, 1.4.2. However, I am okay under WinXP, NT and 2000. Here is the dump:

I've seen this crash before too.
Anything that tries to bring up a java GUI, even a simple JFrame.
Don't know if it's due to Windows 98 or buggy Direct3D drivers
on old hardware or what.
-Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true does the trick for me.
I have no problems under Windows ME with the same Java code,
but my Windows ME machine is running on much newer hardare.

I am receiving stop messages and conflicts that I have isolated as coming from Intel Application Accelerator v2.2. The stop message will (usually) comment "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and the dump analysis will say that a driver caused it. I can always manifest the problem my running Norton Speed Disk. The problem seems to go away if I uninstall iaa. I done that now based on the advice "don't do that if it hurts".
Question: has anyone else seen this problem and should I be using iaa? I am using the latest nVidia and CMedia drivers.

  • System crash in VB using Win2000, Win98 is ok...?

    Hi there,
my VB6 Program using the NI GPIB-32.dll crashes the whole system under Win2000 Prof. randomly, i cannot identify a special DLL call which causes the crash.
After the error occured, the system "stands" which means you can't even start the Task Manager and no "blue sceen" appears, the system simply stops. This is the reason i guess that this is a hardware error. I' using a PCI-GPIB board. The funny thing is that the program runs under the same PC system using Windows 98 without problems. I updated the Mainboards Bios, tried NI488.2 Versions 1.7 and 2.1, changed the gpibpci.sys (posted somewhere here) but the system crash is still there...soes anyone have an idea...?

    Hi Dirk,
    thank you for your reply.
I read somewhere here on the discussion forum about the ACPI mode but i have no idea where to disable this mode in Windows 2000 and configure to Standard-PC Mode. Could you explain this to me or send me a link to a description ? I do not get any message because the PC justs stops, no Taskmanager, no more input by keyboard or mouse is possible, only the Reset button can solve this problem. The NI Spy in failsave mode in the background also has no effect. I open the device (a DMM) correctly and so some measurements (read and write) in different modes (Volts/ Amps) and even on the first run of the program after a few seconds the crash happens. The program code is okay because it runs problem-free under Win98.
    Regards,
    PF

  • PS6 - Program Errors under Win98 or WinME (and crashes with Magnetic Lasso)

Under Windows98 and WinME, many users are getting into a state where most commands report a program error and fail to function. This same problem can cause crashes in the magnetic lasso and magnetic pen tools.

Q: How do I stop the program errors?
A1: After they start, show the about box for any plug-in, then continue working.
A2: Select the Adobe PostScript printer driver as you default printer.
Details: many printer drivers on Win98 and WinME leave the CPU in a bad floating point state, and that bad state remains when Photoshop tries to use floating point code. Photoshop receives a floating point error from the CPU that it doesn't know how to deal with, so it reports a generic "program error". Showing the about box of a plug-in will reset the CPU to the correct floating point state. After that, everything should work -- until the next time you access anything about that printer....
Using the Adobe PostScript printer driver avoids the floating point state problem entirely.

  • Forte crashes Win98 when java file compiled

Have just installed Forte 2.0 in my Win 98, 450 MH P4, 320 MB RAM. Have been using MS Dos command window to compile and run. Can use Forte to edit and save changes to existing programs but when compiled system crashes. PATH point to JAVAC.exe directory. Have set up Project and mounted directory java programs reside in. Need suggestions? Reinstall Forte? Uninstall first? Other? Appreciate e-mail answer as well as forum answer as I am not familar with forum.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling Forte. Check you have the latest stable release of the JDK and Forte. If all else fails, forget forte, and try another free IDE, to see if you get any similar problems (unlikely).
Be aware that Forte is not G*d's gift to programmers (IMHO) - think of it more as a curse. You could try JBuilder4 Professional if you are prepared to spend some money. Although not free, the professional version is streets ahead of Forte.

Thanks for the help - I edited the C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\test_domain2\bin\setDomainEnv.cmd file as follows:
@REM set BEA_JAVA_HOME=C:\Oracle\Middleware\jrockit_160_24_D1.1.2-4 (I commented out this line)
set BEA_JAVA_HOME=C:\Oracle\Middleware\jdk160_24 (I added this line)
set SUN_JAVA_HOME=C:\Oracle\Middleware\jdk160_24 (this line was already here)
    After confirming ENV's:

    JAVA_HOME=C:\Java\jdk1.6.0_24
I then restarted WLS, but the C:\Oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3\common\bin\commEnv.sh still says:
    JAVA_HOME="C:/Oracle/Middleware/jrockit_160_24_D1.1.2-4"

  • Flash Player 9 crashes Internet Explorer 6.

    Hello
Previous versions of Flash Player worked fine on my Win98SE
system until I upgraded to versions 8 and 9, then it became
impossible to use Flash Player without a message popping up saying
that there had been an illegal instruction in module FLASH9B.OCX.
Occasionally I had to reboot my system which had become
unstable (blue screen - system busy).
I submitted the register dump from the FLASH9B.OCX crash to
Adobe and they provided me with an uninstall tool along with
instructions on how to (re)install the latest version.
Every re-installation of the latest version always ended with
an eventual crash of the FLASH9B.OCX module while visiting
    different websites,
Adobe advised me to stop using Flash Player on the grounds
that there was, in their estimation, something corrupt within my
Win98SE operating system and/or Internet Explorer version 6, all of
which I have kept up to date with the latest patches from MS.
I downloaded a fresh copy of Internet Explorer and I also ran
the Win98 tool that verifies the system files and I replaced the
half dozen files that were flagged as being suspect (checksum
    error, no doubt).
In spite of this, Internet Explorer still crashes when I
visit a website which has Flash media on it (static images).
I have resigned myself to living in a world without Flash
    Player.
But the price to pay for not keeping Flash Player installed
on one's system is that there are constant requests to download
Flash Player via a pop-up window, and even my pop-up blocker can't
    hide these constant interruptions.
Has anyone else had this same problem and if so, have you
found a better way to live with or without Flash Player?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
UPDATE: When I go back to version 8, then module FLASH8B.OCX
crashes in the same way as version 9.
If I go back to version 7 (7.0.19), everything works
perfectly. So what was changed in version 8 that makes my Internet
    Explorer crash?

up in a debugger and look for a non-MMX code path and see if I can

I thought of "back-reving" to the latest Flash 7 player to

Good luck looking for a non-MMX code path hidden upstream of
    the offending MMX instruction.
Going back to Flash 7 is relatively easy and you will
suddenly be able to visit places you haven't been in years, but
there are still some sites that will block you unless you have
    Flash player 8 or 9.
First use the Adobe uninstaller to clean up which is found
    at .
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157
Then find a copy of :
    flashplayer7r61_winax.exe
and run it. That will give you the latest Flash 7.

Up until this moment I had thought it was a friggin software problem.
By the way the mobo is with the new bios version now and giving me almost 15degrees less on the system temperature.

  • Const from a 'tab control typedef' crashes lv6.1

LabView crashes with 'failure: datamgr.cpp line 2854' if I do the following:
1/ Make typedef of a TAB Control
2/ Place this typedef control on front panel
3/ create Const on diagram (also depends on typedef)
4/ change in the typedef the 'tab control' (change a page name)
saving this new typedef vi will crash LabView
(as if the const can not be updated correctly)
    Seen on Win98 and Win2000. LabView 6.1
(Labview 6.0 doesn't allow "custimise control" with TAB controls, so here no errors)

    Verified on XP:

  • Satellite M40: Win XP install after system crash- ser.number problem

    Hello there,
i would like to ask you what shall i do. I bought new toshiba satellite m40 laptop about 5 years ago in London.
There was no Win XP recovery cd (no recovery partition on hdd as well), just cd with toshiba drivers in the box. Now my system crashed.
Took me long time to figure out what it was. (BSOD - "not ACPI compliant") I tried almost everything even HDD format.
Later on i completely dismanteled laptop, cleaned the dust inside and it works again - no BSOD.
Now i need to install my WinXP back. So i downloaded WinXP service pack 3 cd-rom and tried to install it.
It wont take my serial number which i have on a sticker on my toshiba.
Please help me, what shall i do?
I paid for WinXP (system was included in price) and now i cannot use it.

Well, i was in London just few months when i bought that laptop. The guy in the store told me the box include everything - it was the way they got it. I didn't know how it works in London (well except the robb of in an exchange office on victoria train station first day and another one paying for a laptop in Computer store which had branches all around London and the company crashed and did not pay me back) and it was my first (delivered) laptop as well. Of course i asked why there is no Win XP cd (or recovery). I used to have many destops before starting with old good 386@20MHz. I was very well aware that i really need installation cd of windows, do remember loads of system crashes of Win95 and Win98. Maybe somebody took it out of the box, who knows. I am just 100% sure it was not there. So i reconciled myself with it, was a newbee there, didn't want to make problems. My fault. Another one was not buying recovery program (or use of that toshiba recovery creator) to make image of hdd. Those days imaging system was quite a new thing as well-at least for me. Few days ago I tried toshiba support web to find recovery cd, even e-bay, etc. to find and buy it. No chance. I can try to call Toshiba UK support centre, but i guess it will be the same answer.
You wrote your friend has got one as well, is it the type -225 ? Full name of it is: Toshiba satellite m40 -225. Different number means different hardware, but recovery cd of your friend might be compatible. Would it be possible to ask him to give/sale me an image of that disk? Toshiba support in my country cannot provide help or further info, is not comparable with the UK or US one. But thank you guys for answering me anyway! :-) Any idea welcomed.
EDIT: BSOD (not ACPI compliant) is unfortunatelly back, laptop works just in really cold (-10 C) environment. Restoration CD would be logical step to go.

  • ???;???; Rollbacks crashing and burning

Well, having an application deployed on 70 machines (W95/W98/NT4.0/W2K) is very educational.
I'm having a problem when pressing the ROLLBACK (red arrow) in NavigationBar. In the examples below, the exact same JAR was being used.
Win98/OJVM/JRE 1.3 (sticking with supported, official configuration )
I get nullPointerExceptions, funky results, and sometimes the JVM "crashes" ( I think )... the whole application just flashes and disappears.
    Win98/Javasoft 1.3/JRE 1.3
Crashes and burns too frequently to be usable.
    NT 4.0/Hotspot 1.3.1/JRE 1.3.1
I do EXACTLY the same operations on EXACTLY the same data... and the program behaves, I get no nullPointerExceptions, no crashes, no tracebacks! Extremely stable, acts just as one would want it to.
Yeah. grin I know... why not just deploy NT 4.0 and the 1.3.1 stuff to everyone? Uh... not officially supported, the 1.3.1 is Beta release... There's also just a JDK, no JRE that I can locate for 1.3.1.
Anyone else run into these sorts of issues and have workaround(s)?

Got it using the debugger... interestingly, I also find that when I swap to my DEVELOPMENT database using exactly the same configuration, I don't get the ClassCastException... but when I point it to PRODUCTION, it gets:

I think I've posted this before, but didn't get a response. THe line pointed to is:
    protected boolean isBoundToLOV(Control c)
    DataItem di = (DataItem)c.getDataItem();
if ((di != null) && (di instanceof ImmediateAccess))
------THIS LINE IS POINTED TO ----->
    AttributeInfo attrInfo = (AttributeInfo )di.getProperty(
    DataItemProperties.INFO_OBJECT);
    if (attrInfo != null)
    return (( attrInfo.getLOV() != null ) ? true : false);
    return false;
and the control pointed to is the combobox that was being modified and rolled back.
This is repeatable behavior when I run it against the PRODUCTION instance.
It's interesting because the PRODUCTION database was exported off the DEVELOPMENT database. I believe that the metadata is identical. I'll certainly recheck it... but the tables look identical when I DESCribe 'em. The stuff may be created in a slightly different order ( all resultsets are unordered unless explicitly sorted, so if BC4J/Wizards are expecting metadata by default in a certain order for some p eculiar reason, or the order as created, things could get interesting ) I can't imagine or see anything like that could be.

Me, I'm interested in blue screens. 'Put them on the wall around me. What does yours say?
Is your CDRW possibly a few years old? If so, let it be Master at the end of it's cable.
Do you have any PCI cards?

  • Fixed sync monitor and USB crashes XP

I own a fixed sync monitor (Intergraph Interview21 MDSP1270A). I own it for 2 years and until recently I used it on my old computer with a Matrox Millennium II with no problems. A really excellent monitor.
2 months ago I bought a my new MSI K8T motherboard and a Matrox Millenium G550 which still supports my monitor.
I experienced increasingly blue screens in XP, freezes in Win98 and Win2K. Tried them all. I noticed on one occasion that just moving the (wireless) mouse caused the crash. Dump files mostly point at Interrupt problems.
After 2 months of testing I found that a crazy combination of using USB devices (mouse, printer) and my Intergraph monitor cause the crash. Changing either the USB devices (remove them all and use only a PS2 mouse) or the monitor (replace the fixed sync monitor by a standard multisync) will prevent the crashes. The system is stable.
Is there any thinkable explanation for this behaviour? Could the mobo be defect in any way?
I am also posting my question to Matrox, but I can image their answer..
    MSI K8T Neo FISR2
    Athlon 64 3000
    2x512 Kingston DDR3200
    Sata WD Raptor 40
    Sata Maxtor 120
    Matrox G550
    Plextor 708 DVDRW
    Philips 52x CDRW

I posted the issue on the Matrox forum and Matrox support came more or less with the same advice: change the RAM, reinstall drivers etcetera.

In order to test my idea that I am suffering from a monitor-USB problem I tested a standard monitor for today..and..XP crashed as well, this time with printing. So I will leave out the monitor issue, be it that the fixed sync crashes more often (also at USB mouse movements for instance).
My gutt feeling is..it's in the motherboard.
All my settings in the BIOS are standard. I upgraded the BIOS twice (I now have reatek audio AND soundblaster PCI!!) but that did not affect my problem at all. However maybe something in the AGP settings could affect USB behaviour?

  • My computer is crashed after 3 hours, when am running an Executable file from LabView 6.0.2

My VI is using DAQ6025e and GPIB cards, it is countiniusly writing data to files and talking with 2 GPIB instruments and one Serial instrument. Sudenly after 3 hours of perfect working it is crash my computer.
Does any body know why ??? Help? S.O.S?

Some questions to help us troubleshoot:
1)How crashed is your computer when it crashes?
Blue Screen Of Death crashed? If you don't know about BSOD then that
is when your computer presents a blue screen (white in XP) and tells
you that the system is halted, gives you a register dump and the
memory address where it stopped (all of which is useless unless you
are an assembly language wizard) and then you have to reboot the
    machine.
Application error that kills LabVIEW.exe? Usually a pop-up MSGBOX
style dialog box will appear with a such and such error occurred in
LabVIEW.exe or another application and an OK button.
VI Slows to a crawl w/hourglass in the app window? Program doesn't
stop executing, it just stops responding to user inputs.
LabVIEW error cluster error that causes the VI to quit?
    2) What O/S are you running? Win 3.1, Win 95, Win 98, Win NT 3.1, Win
NT 3.5, Win NT 4.0, Win2000, WinME, WinXPHome, Win XPPro?, Linux?, Mac
    O/S?
In the Microsoft family, WinNT and Win2000 are by far the most stable
and reliable of the various versions of Windows with Win95 and Win98
having a lot of problems running for long periods of time. Make sure
that you get WinNT 4.0 updated to service pack 6 if you are still
using 4.0 but haven't updated the service pack level yet. There were
quite a number of problems with it when it first came out that have
    since been cured.
    3) Have you run the LabVIEW VI profiler yet? This will point out
memory leaks that are due to dynamically built arrays using shift
registers etc. or appending to strings, or improper IMAQ management,
    etc.
    4) Have you brought up the task manager and looked at the memory
allocated for LabVIEW.exe and for the whole system as well? Is it
growing? Sometimes there can be memory leaks that don't show in the
profiler that will show in the task manager when you look. These can
be due to bugs in LabVIEW itself or some driver for some hardware you
    are using, etc.
If you are not running NT or a later derivative, then you won't have
task manager available but you can get diagnostic tools that are very
similar to task manager from off the web.
    5) How much memory do you have in your PC? How fast is your PC? What
does the CPU % usage look like under task manager when you first start
your app? If it is running >40% CPU usage for any significant amount
of time at the start then perhaps your PC is overloaded with work and
you need a faster PC or your code needs redesigning. I like data
acquisition systems to operate <25% generally speaking. This number
seems to improve the reliability of the code that is running on them.
    6) How much H/D space is available? You say you are writing data to
files. Your h/d space isn't running out is it?
    7) Is it possible to run one instrument at a time for several hours to
see if it is a particular instrument that is causing the crash? Make
sure that your GPIB cards are properly configured so that they don't
share resources with any other devices(IRQ, DMA, memory addresses,
etc.) It may be possible that they behave fine most of the time even
with shared resources but if they ever try to send a command
simultaneously and they share resources, they could "collide" and
crash your PC. You can check all this out in the control panel and/or
    MAX.
    8) Is it possible that your serial port is getting hung up after
running a long period of time? Serial port UARTS are notoriously
finicky especially over longer line lengths and higher data rates. It
could be that your serial instrument is locking up your app or your PC
serial port is locking up your app and causing the crash. Can you put
a serial port analyzer in between your serial instrument and your PC
to see what's going on when it crashes?
    9) Are you trying to read or write to the serial port in more than one
thread or while loop or dynamically launched vi? If you are you MUST
protect the serial port access with a semaphore or a VISA resource
lock. You CANNOT use a boolean global to protect access. Regular
globals aren't atomic and you can have race conditions that result in
unintended serial port collisions between differen threads. I have
seen this lock up multi-threaded serial programs before to the point
    of requiring rebooting.
This problem can be especially frustrating if you haven't done
multi-threaded before. The port won't necessarily lock up right away
or at the same time every time. You MUST make sure that serial port
access is limited to ONLY ONE execution thread at a time.
    10) Is there another application or service running in the background
with your application that may be trying to access the serial port or
GPIB cards when you aren't expecting it? This could cause a collision
that could crash your system as well.
