  • India Tax Depreciation (group asset)

    Hi FICO experts,
I'm having some problem with depreciation calculation for group assets to adhere to India IT Tax Depreciation  regulation. As per IT law,
      1. asset acquired <180days shall be depreciated at 1/2 of the depreciation rate for the fiscal year
      2. asset acquired >180days shall be depreciated at full rate for the fiscal year
I've created depreciation key with period control NL and IT, and configure 2 depreciaiton area i.e 01 for book and 02 for tax depreciation in India COD. 02-Tax depreciation is configured as managed at Group asset.
I created 2 Assets i.e Asset A and Asset B and both linked to Group Asset C. Say the depreciation rate is 15%
    1. Asset A - Acquired on P1 of 2008 --> INR10000
    2. Asset B - Acquired on P9 of 2008 --> INR10000
A & B are linked to Group Asset C in 02-Tax depreciation area.
When I view Group Asset depreciation, I noticed that the deprecition for 2008 computed as (1000015%)+(1000015%). Thus, although Asset B is still being depreciated at full rate of 15% instead of half of the rate.
Besides, is that normal that I'm not able to see depreciation at Asset A and Asset B in tax depreciation area 02 when they are managed at Group. I can only view the deprecation at Group asset C?
Appreciate help if anyone have similar experience. Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
If you want to adhere Indian IT laws then follow the below mentioned steps:
    1. Maintain a relationship of 1:1 of AS01 & AS21, means when you create a new normal asset it should be tagged with a new group asset.
    2. Try to use SAP standard delivered dep. keys.
    3. Change asset value date determination in SPRO.
    4. Tagged group asset into the normal asset master.
    5. Check tax dep.figures under group asset.

  • Depreciation on Asset for current period..?

    Hi Experts,
i have a question regarding depreciation on asset. My fiscal year is apr-mar. Suppose i purchased asset(Ex:machinery) this month(december). So from When can i run depreciation on that particular asset.?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Regards,
    Rajesh.

You have really asked two questions, and I don't know that the answer for both is the same throughout this world.
1  When must statutory depreciation start for taxation purposes, such as for the IRS regulations if in the US?  This is probably NOT depreciation area 01 in SAP, but a derived area maybe.
2  When must financial accounting depreciation start, such as for US GAAP or for IFRS rules.  This usually involves depreciation area 01 in SAP, plus other DA's for revaluations and/or for subsidiary company financial reporting in other currencies.
Probably both are when the assets are placed into service, or some other consistent project milestone that approximates in-service dates.  But check with your accountants/auditors for DA01, and check with your statutory tax personnel for non-financial areas.

  • Depreciation on assets with asset shutdown

To stop depreciation on assets with the 'asset shutdown' our test asset still shows planned posting of .01 one month and -.01 the next. Is this due to configuration of the depreciation key? Or, is there a program to make 'planned' equals 'posted' to zero out these pennies. Deprecation should no longer post once the asset is shutdown.
    Thanks,
    Mark Ashabraner

    Dear Mark,
We have this same problem, after configured 'shutdown' indicator in depr key and asset master (we are using multiple depr area, with different depr key in the depr area), we found that the asset still depreciate for +1/-1 for some of the period (after the shutdown period), and it only happens to certain depr key in the same asset. It looks like the +1/-1 posting is caused by some rounding difference in the depreciation calculation (maybe straight line with remaining value), but the concept for shutdown should be no depreciation at all during shutdown period. Just wondering if you already found solution and would like to share, as we are really desperate. Thanks.

  • Post depreciation by asset

    Hi Guys.
Is there a way of posting depreciation by asset in a specific depreciation area?
I mean, we wanna have acc. deprec account x expense deprec account for each asset in AFAB process.
Even having many, many, many, bseg lines.
Here in Brazil we have an area to control CIAP and my customer wants clear monthly postings with that one posted on acquisition.
    Best regards.

    Hi,
SAP standard does not allow you to do so, you are not allowed to
select assets for individual dep postings  when you are
    doing "planned posting
run" in AFAB. Individual assets can only be selected for posting in repeat run. Here
    system will allow
you to post a repeat run only
    for the periods for which
    planned posting run has
    already been done.

  • Reverse depreciation for asset wise

    Dear SAP gurus,
Is it possiablity to do reverse depreciation for assets wise. Please suggest me.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sai

    Hi,
In standard it is not possible.
    You have workaround for this.
1.Change the depreciation key assigned in asset master
2.Copy transaction type 640 and choose debit transaction radio button. Next go to ABAA and give the new transaction type and amount(depreciation amount) to reverse.
You can choose any one option from the above.

  • Error in depreciation run - assets under construction

    Hi!
Could someone please help me with the following:
My customer has a large amount of assets under construction (AuC) and also other assets. None of the assets under consctruction should have a depreciation key (or depreciation key 0000) and no depreciation accounts are allocated in transaction AO93 for AuC . But my customer now has incorrectly created a few AuC (that should NOT be depreciated at all) with depreciation key LINK. What happened?
    1) Test run depreciation (AFAB) for all assets in period 1 during 2010. In test run no error log was created, everything looked fine.
    2) Executed depreciation in background.
    3) When looking at each of the assets in transaction AW01N I can see that all assets (both real assets and AuC with depreciation key) has depreciation posted in period 1. BUT, no depreciation has been posted in general ledger on any of the asset classes!
    4) I have now changed the depreciation key on all AUC in AS02 to 0000 so that no depreciation will be calculated.
    5) Trying to run AFAB again for period 2 but error message says that period 1 was terminated and that period 1 should be restarted.
    6) Trying to run period 1 again in AFAB with restart but error message says "Account 'Acc.dep. accnt.for ordinary depreciation' could not be found for area 01" and refering to all of the incorrect AuC that I have corrected (to no depreciation key)
Please how can I go on? I want to reverse the depreciation in period 1 since I didn't get any posting i the general ledger. And then I want to make a new depreciation run only with correct assets (only depreciation on real assets, not on AuC).
    Please help!
I am very thankful for any help!
    Many many thanks in advance!

  • Asset issue to vendor for jobwork

    Dear Experts,
We want to issue an  asset to vendor for some  job work.We will receive the asset after completion of the work.
We want to charge depreciation for the asset as asset ownership is with us.
How to do the scenarioa in SAP.
    Thanks and regards
    Poonam

Hi Rob thanks for your response.  I thought about doing an OSS note however; I would think I would need to get the problem in config corrected first as it contradicts each other.  The problem I am talking about is how they are to return material to vendor....I have never even seen this as a process in my 10 years....
Process.....when the PO is a return to vendor PO they go to migo and choose the goods receipt and mvmt type 101 and the system will default the 161 in the item level....the two are inconsistent.  If I try to change the top level to a 161 mvmt (as this is what I am used to seeing) it gives the error that the PO is not a stock transport order... Would you agree that I should correct that problem first before creating an OSS note?

  • Asset Issues

    Hi All ,
Can some one please provide inputs on below two issues.
    1.         We want to change the useful life of an asset (or a number of assets).   The current net book value should then be depreciated over the revised useful life.  We DON'T want any historical adjustments to occur.
    2.         An asset that has been fully depreciated is deemed still to have a value.   We want to write-up the value of the asset and have it depreciated over the revised remaining useful life.
    Best Regards
    Ravi Kumar

    1) use trx. AS02 resp. a BDC-Program to AS02
2.)you need a program which calculates the value which must be ascribed with trx. ABZU

  • AR29N New Valuation of Assets Issue

Need to enter new value for all assets and write back depreciation for a couple of months to a certain date in depreciation area 01, due to an acquisition. So though we could use AR29N to mass update.
Have read the SAP Library documentation. And done the customizing, although I'm still facing an issue.
Our assets have a depreciation method = U % from remaining life calc. from depr. conversion date.
When running AR29N, we get the error message: 'dep.calculation method of key &1 is not percentage from useful life' (Message no. APERB032).
Diagnosis: For the system to be able to correctly determine depreciation adjustments and suitable depreciation values in following years, the depreciation calculation method "Percentage from Useful Life " has to be set in the base method of the depreciation key. This is not the case in depreciation key &1.
Reading the SAP documentation, it seems that using AR29N it is only possible to use assets with depreciation method = D Percentage from the useful life.
Is there any way that we can use AR29N with our assets?
Do we need to change something?
Or what would need to be done?
Any insight and help is much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Débora,
We did finally not used AR29N. We used a combination of ABZON, ABZU and finally AS02 to change e.g. Depr.Key + ULYr + ULPeriod & ODepStart Date.

    Luc.

  • Posting Unplanned Depreciation when asset net book value is zero

We recently transferred some assets from one company code to another.  However, when they transferred, the depreciation all reversed out YTD.
We are now trying to post the YTD depreciation back in under the original company code, but when we try posting unplanned depreciation, the following error message appears -
"In area 01, you can only post manual dep. up to the amount 0.00"
I believe this is because the asset does not have any net book value now.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this?
    Many thanks,

    Hi Susan,
do you have the option to reverse the transfer postings? If so, you could specify another period control for transfer postings (such as fiscal year start, etc.) in your depreciation key, with which you can influence how much depreciation is left back respectively transferred.
It is correct that you can´t post an unplanned depreciation on the sending asset now, because the net book value would go below zero. As unplanned depreciation does not influence the ordinary depreciation in the year of posting, this value below zero can not be adjusted with a reduction of planned ordinary depreciation.
I am wondering which effect you´d like to have on the sending asset. Did you post a complete retirement? If so, there should be no APC left which you can depreciate on the sending asset. And as the net book value is zero already, which effect do you want to get? You have to keep in mind that the non-depreciated APC will be continued to depreciate (normally) on the receiving asset. But maybe I misunderstood the problem here ...

  • Asset Issue ?

    Hi
I have a problem which says likes this at the time of a Down payment request creation:
    Message no. F5378
The asset number assigned in the purchase document  is different from the asset number entered manually
cannot be transferred, because the 'Asset number' field was hidden for the account in question
    System Response
In the first instance a warning appears, drawing your attention to the different account assignments. In the second instance an error message appears, because the asset number must be transferred from the purchase order but the necessary field is hidden.
    Procedure
If you receive the warning, check which asset number is the correct number for this down payment.
If you receive an error message, you must either choose another special G/L indicator for down payments so that it is possible to assign an asset number to the relevant general ledger account, or you must change or delete the the specified purchase document number. Only those purchase documents are allowed which are not assigned to assets
How can I solve this issue ?
    Regards,
    Pankaj.
