Detecting network connection

I'm developing an app for IOS which stores data on a web server and thus does not work offline. So I need to detect if connection is available (also required for app approval). I've found some solutions for AIR by googling but they don't seem to be available for IOS.
So how can I detect connection on IOS?
I've set UIRequiresPersistentWiFi in the app's xml to YES but it doesn't do the job, it only detects if airplane mode is on.

The below function is used to check for Internet Connection in Flex for all devices.
You also have to listen to change event of NetworkInfo so that in middle of the application if internet is disconnected then that case is handled.
private function checkInternetConnection():Boolean
            var interfaces:Vector.<NetworkInterface> = NetworkInfo.networkInfo.findInterfaces();
            if(interfaces.length==0)
                return true;
            for(var i:uint = 0; i < interfaces.length; i++)
                if(interfaces[i].name.toLowerCase() == "wifi" && interfaces[i].active)
                    trace("WiFi connection enabled");
                    return true;
                else if(interfaces[i].name.toLowerCase() == "mobile" && interfaces[i].active)
                    trace("Mobile data connection enabled");
                    return true;
            return false;

  • Can't detect Network Connection?

    I'm using a wireless connection at the library, and as long as I connect through Firefox it works fine (Safari gets picky about it), but I have trouble with both Mail and iChat AV. Neither can detect the connection at all. I ran connection doctor, and it just told me I have no network connection. I pinged the servers through Network Utility and it worked perfectly.
    Any tips or tricks to get this running? Did Bill screw up our wireless? Do Linksys WAP54G not work with Mail and iChat?
    At least my browsers work, but it would be nice to use some other programs...

    Hi Emi,
    You would like to thinks so.
    Go to System Preferences.
    Then Network.
    Choose the connection method from the second drop down.
    Choose the TCP/IP tab
    Does this read "Using DHCP" ?
    What is the IP below that for your computer ?
    Further down what is the "router" IP ?
    Also make and model is your modem ?
    If the Linksys is the "router" as shown in the IP above then it should be shown as 192.168.1.254
    If you see this IP type it into a web browser.
    (just the Numbers not www or http bits)
    After you hit enter you should get a pop up asking for User ID and password. If the WAP54G is still in default settings then these should both be admin in lower case.
    Can you tell us what the connection method says at the top of the Setup page please ?

  • My Safari browser not loading...why won't software update detect network connection?

    I am using Foxfire browser, and glad I did at least download such...even though Foxfire updates are not recognized by my Lion system.  This unnerves me a bit since I'd be dead in the water...and my Foxfire is getting more outdated by the day.
    My Safari browser comes up...but then does not load...remains blank.
    I tried doing a Software Update...but my system is not finding network connection.  When I did the diagnostic, my system DID recognize my wifi connection and as good.
    What should I do...?  Would like my Safari back, but more important I suppose is getting my software updates...
    thanks
    my system is Lion OS X  10.7.2

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
    Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
    Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
    Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
    Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    *Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
    After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • How to develope a NDIS miniport driver to detect network connection

    I need to develope a NDIS miniport driver to detect the current network status of a machine. If someone know how to do it please let me know.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    I think we all need a little more information to help you. Are you using any NI hardware or software? What port are you trying to connect to. Some more information would be helpful.

  • ITunes does NOT detect network connection when I use a 3G modem

    Hi
    since christmas iTunes has not been able to update when i commute, using a 3G USB modem. Over enabled and live WLAN or Ethernet interfaces everything works fine, but TCPdump does not register any packets at all from iTunes when only the USB 3G modem is up. All other networking activities work in this state, but iTunes erronously thinks there is no network and doesn't even initiate network activity.
    Seems iTunes tries to be smart by detecting "is there network" by asking something in the OS, rather than trying?
    Is this a bug? Am I the only one experiencing this? Is this isolated to my particular 3G modem/ISP? I don't think so...
    thanks for any enlightenment,
    peter

    Hi. Just go a bit further by process of elimination which you've already started. Here's a couple more things you can try.
    1. Different USB cable?
    2. Try plugging into another computer just to see if your iPhone will get recognised then.
    If it still deosn't work then I can only assume that the handset itself has developed some kind of fault, in which case, just book a 'Genius' appointment at your local Apple store asap and get it replaced.

  • AirPort does not detect networks, unless another network connection is made

    I've just done a clean install of OS 10.5 to see if this problem was software related, but it persists.
    AirPort does not detect any network the computer is near (tested in various locations) normally, but when connecting to a network via Ethernet or to another Mac via Firewire to use network sharing, it can update and load web pages as normal. A strange quirk I've noticed though, whenever connecting with ethernet or firewire, AirPort will suddenly detect the network! It still can't quite connect to WiFi properly though. While still connected through firewire or ethernet, it will have no connectivity through a self-assigned IP. If it is disconnected from ethernet and firewire again, the wireless network will still show up in a re-scan for networks but it will fail to connect.
    I've opened the computer up to ensure that the airport extreme card is seated properly as well, and that the antenna cable is secured properly.
    Any ideas as to what the issue is? Should I look into replacing the AirPort Extreme card?

    Got no answer on my original post, so I went ahead with ordering a replacement AirPort card on eBay (item #130487488014). Once installed, the iMac was able to detect and connect to networks normally... but was still unable to load any web pages. I tried on secured and unsecured networks as I did previously, and plugging directly into the router and into my Macbook Pro via firewire, with the same results as before. Safari loads pages when connected with an ethernet or firewire cable, but will not load pages on WiFi alone. I can attempt to access a router setup page via WiFi, and am prompted for a username/password, but the page itself never manages to load.
    Any clues as to what may be going on here?!

  • Airport does not detect wireless network; it says problem = [network]"connection timeout"

    It is not a problem of signal strength, and my Airport detects other networks. It used to detect the network I want to connect to, for two years. It suddenly stopped detecting the network (which is WPA Personal password-protected). When I select choose other network and type in the password, it won't connect to it claiming "connection timeout."
    This happened before. Then after several days, Airport was able to detect and connect to the network I want. Now it again won't detect the network, and this seems permanent short of taking measures to address the problem. Should I try connecting manually to the network, and hodo I got about that? Thank you to anyone out there ho might be able to help.

    i have a macmini (OS 10.5) and use a belkin wireless router. When I turn on Mac address filtering on the router I have an Intermittent problem. The airport does not recognize the wireless network. On the network preferences panel there is a message that the airport is using a self assigned IP address. sometimes the message says the airport has no IP address. If I turn off the Mac address filtering and use a WAP password only the network is recognised and connects without a problem. How do I resolve this? I dont have the problem with a iBook using system 10.4. Is turning off the Mac address filtering secur?

  • JMS detection of failed network connection

    I have a JMS topic that has a number of consumers, each of which is on a different machine. Messages are being sent on the topic at a low enough rate that the consumers are usually able to handle them immediately. If I look at the monitor screen (on admin console) for JMS, I see that I never have more than one or 2 messages on the server; they are consumed just about immediately, and the high water mark for the topic is 1 or 2.
    Part of our system robustness testing is disconnecting the network from one of the machines hosting a consumer. When I do that and monitor the number of JMS messages on the server, I see the number of messages climb. My assumption here is that the server keeps track of its consumers, and it is holding on to messages until it can deliver them to the consumer. At some point, usually, the number of consumers connected to the topic is reduced by 1 and the number of messages on the server is reduced down to a low number. I am assuming that the server has detected that the consumer is unreachable and it no longer holds onto the messages for delivery to that consumer.
    First, are my assumptions accurate?
    Second, if so, how can I configure how quickly the server concludes that the client is unreachable and stops holding messages? What I want to do is limit the number of messages in a topic using a quota, and I need to know how to set a reasonable size, given a message production rate. For instance, is there a way to say how long the server should try to deliver messages to a consumer before giving up on it?

    Hi,
    I'm assuming the subscribers are non-durable, in which case I think your assumptions are correct - it takes some time to detect a network disconnect.
    Its possible to tune how quickly WebLogic tears down stuck network connections, but this is generally not recommended (I think the configurables are on the "Network Channel").
    Some options:
    You can programmatically set a message expiration time using the standard JMS API (javax.jms.MessageProducer.setTimeToLive() are as a parameter to publish()), or, more conveniently, you can configure an expiration time override on the WebLogic topic itself.
    You can configure a quota on the destination, but this would cause new publish attempts to fail with a resource allocation exception once the quota condition is reached (rather than cause the oldest messages to be dropped). That said, it is recommended best practice to always configure quotas in order to prevent the possibility of out-of-memory errors, and there are some flow-control options to help (see the JMS section of the Performance & Tuning guide in the edocs). You might also wish to tune JMS paging.

  • ITunes Store Error Message: "network connection was reset"

    I've been having trouble connecting to the iTunes Store since Dec. 25, 2006. The last time I was able to connect to the site was Jan. 2, 2007!
    The error message that I have been receiving is: "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection was reset."
    Here are the troubleshooting issues that I have already performed.
    1) Ensured that my internet connection was active.
    2) Checked to make sure Windows XP Service Pack Updates were compatible. No problems with the firewall detected.
    3) Have the latest version (7.02.16) of iTunes.
    4) iPod software is up to date.
    5) Ran iTunes diagnostics which states:
    Windows Firewall is on.
    iTunes is enabled in Windows Firewall.
    Connection attempt to Apple web site was unsuccessful.
    The network connection was reset.
    Connection attempt to iTunes Store was unsuccessful.
    The network connection was reset.
    Secure connection attempt to iTunes Store was successful.
    Does anyone have this problem? Can anyone recommend a solution that worked for them?
    Sony   Windows XP

    PS: I also went into Internet Explorer...
    Selected Tools, selected Internet options, then selected Advanced Tab
    Then I looked for the security section and made sure that SSL 2.0 was selected.
    I was still unable to access iTunes Store.

  • Losing network connection and NIC acts weird from warm/hot weather/temperatures?

    Hello.
    Is there a known issue on MSI P43 NEO3-F (MSI-7514) motherboards' onboard RealTek RTL8168C (P)/8111C(P) PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC network disconnecting and acting weird during warm/hot weather?
    I noticed lately and back on 1/11/2009 night when weather got warm/hot (e.g., my room can get over 85F degrees, but lately it has been 80F degrees), my network would lose its connection. See http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/5580/screenshots.gif for a few SpeedFan's sensor readings when the incidents occurred. I have never seen this happen when the weather is cooler (60-70F degrees in my room).
    I also think this only happens if I am using the PC lightly (nothing intensive) like watching fullscreen videos (video overlay), surfing the Web, etc. I don't see any errors or evidences that it happens when idled (e.g., asleep or out). Uptime doesn't seem to matter since I have seen days to 3.5 hours.
    I tried upgrading network driver twice (e.g., Realtek_XP_5714_0219 from
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=13&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false ...), disabling Kerio Personal Firewall v2.1.5 (XP's disabled already), releasing and renewing IP address (works, but still no network -- can't even ping my router!), unplugging and replugging the cat5 cable (do see the network port lights on), touching the network jack and hardware inside and outside of the case (not hot), trying another cat5 cable and a network port on a switch instead router's), changing from "Minimal Power Management" to full power (no underclocking/slowing down when idled), etc.
    During the disconnections, I tried:
    C:\>tracert 192.168.0.1
    Tracing route to 192.168.0.1 over a maximum of 30 hops

    I also noticed the disconnections usually start with red X icon in my taskbar with its bubble and then later the long disconnection even though no red X (1 GB and connected). If I were to disconnect the cat5 cable from NIC, then it wouldn't even detect it is missing the cable!
    The only way to fix this was to reboot (best way and last longer) OR disable network connection and re-enable it (Windows XP's Network Connections) or the NIC itself (Device Manager), but that doesn't always last long (maybe a minute). Example of my pings right after disabling and re-enabling NIC:
    C:\>ping 192.168.0.1 -t
    Pinging 192.168.0.1 with 32 bytes of data:

    Force your NIC to run at 100Mbps full duplex and see how it goes.
    Check your router / switch ports as well as cables.
    I will try 100 Mbps if it happens again. So far, it hasn't occurred after installing the driver supplied by MSI's Web site and not RealTek's Web site. The room temperatures even got warmer like 83F degrees.
    As for router and switch, what am I checking for? Other computers didn't have any problems. As for cat5 cables, I already tried another one like I said in my original post.

  • [SOLVED] Losing network connection after suspend

    Lately I'm having this peculiar problem.  When resuming after suspend (specifically, pm-suspend), I have no network connection.  I first noticed this on March 31st.  The only thing that changed was that I upgraded these packages:
    openssl-1.0.1-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    xf86-video-ati-6.14.4-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    lib32-libdrm-2.4.33-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    libnotify-0.7.5-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    xz-5.0.3-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    vim-taglist-45-5-any.pkg.tar.xz
    But I'm pretty sure I would have suspended and resumed successfully at least once after that upgrade.
    Can anyone suggest what I should look at to try to diagnose this?
    Thanks

    Same issue here. Looks like dhcpcd crashes during or after running /usr/lib/dhcpcd/dhcpcd-run-hooks on resume from suspend. I'll try downgrading until this is fixed.

  • Losing network connection on T61 but still showing that I am connected

    Hello All,
    I am having network connection issues with my T61. On any network I connect to, my downloads will randomly stop, or videos I am watching will stop loading, same with online radio, etc...
    The connection will resume after about 30 seconds of being lost but is a major pain especially if I am on a vpn and have to log back in.
    My network connection never reports any problems and the icons still show that I am connected.
    I have reinstalled all my drivers, ran multiple spyware/virus detection, and tried to trace my network activity with no luck.
    The interesting part is that if I am using skype voice my issues disappear. It seems as though the deluge of packets sent by skype forces my connection to stay alive.
    Any thoughts? (other than talk to someone on skype all day)
    Edit: This happens while using wireless and LAN connection

    Make sure data roaming and cellular data is turned off.  If you don't want to receive calls or SMS then put your phone in airplane mode and reactivate WiFi

  • WRT300N no longer detecting network

    Hello,
    After a loss of power the WRT300N is no longer detecting the network I have setup.  Other wireless networks are shown.  I hit the reset button already, and nothing changed.  I tried to access http://192.168.1.1/ as suggested elsewhere but I am not getting an internet connection at all when the router is hooked up to my laptop via ethernet (all lights are green on the router except wireless and security).  I also attempted to add the router via Vista and it asked for the PIN which I cannot find.  I also tried to reload with the Linksys software and it could not detect the router and said to check the connection.
    I am using Vista and am relatively computer illiterate.  I am a poor grad student who can't pay Linksys $30.  I'd appreciate any help or suggestions.
    Thank you.

    When I got to the third step (Checking the Router’s IP Address), nothing was listed for "Default Gateway" (message below).  I cannot get to step 4 (Getting the DNS Servers from a Linksys Router) as I cannot access the site (no internet connection through the router).
