Dial to Calculate Speed

Hello.
I am still stuck with my previous problem of solving for speed using a Dial Indicator. I have a dial with range 0-359 deg. I am taking the difference in time from computer clock (when the dial starts to move and when it stops). Likewise, the distance travelled is the difference when it started to move and when it stops.
But there is an issue on distance travelled that I can't interpret yet in my VI; when it passes the 359 deg.
If say I move from 7deg to 340 deg through 359 section. I actually moved 7 deg + 20=27 deg......(360-340+7=27).
Similarly, if say I am at 350 deg and stopped at 11 through 359 in this case the formula will be 360-350+11=21.
I want to show this in my VI to accurately calculate for the Speed wherever it pass the dial.
Thank you very much for any help.

Have a look at the attached vi - maybe this is helpful.
In general I buffer the angle-differences with the corresponding dt values. The average of these buffered values is then passed to your speed calculation.
On the left side I also check the actual and the last value whether there is a transition 360 -> 0, 0 -> 360 or none of them.

  • Slow dial-up connect speeds

I need help! I've had my mini for 9 months. It's used primarily for internet/e-mail and occasionally some iphoto and itunes fun. I live really rural so dial-up internet access is my only connection option (No DSL/cable available). I have used the same ISP since my PC days (before the mini). The mini used to connect around 36K, but modem connection speeds have degraded overtime to 14K or less (have seen 9600!). I regularly run the maintenance scripts and occasionally repair permissions...I use YASU. Also reset the PMU. My mini went to Apple repair once for slow connect speeds but I was told it is my ISP.
Yesterday, I pulled the old Windows PC out and powered it up and using the same phone/modem cable from the mini was able to consistently connect to my ISP at 42-44K!! Wow! High speed!! Replugged the same modem cable into the mini and was able to connect at a blazing speed of 14.4K! There obviously is something wrong with my mini or its modem. Any suggestions or is it time to retire the mini and go back to the big, noisy, awkward Windows PC?...after all web surfing and e-mail is my primary computer usage.

I just bought a new 12" Powerbook and it will not connect to my local dial up ISP any faster than 28k. I've had the same ISP for over ten years. I've had the same phone line in my same apartment for over ten years. The G3 iBook I just sold connected at 56k almost every time. The G4 iMac I have at home connects at 56k almost every time. The Performa 6400 I used to have connected at 56k almost every time. The G4 Sawtooth I have in my music studio a couple of blocks away using a different phone line connects at 56k almost every time. Same ISP for over ten years, two different phone lines that work fine with four other Macs, the only Mac I've had that won't connect at 56k is my brand new Powerbook. It won't connect at 56k using OS 10.3.9 or 10.4 or 10.4.4. I tested the connection with CNET's online modem bandwidth test page and the Powerbook modem was connecting at about 26k.
so I took my PowerBook to the Apple store in San Francisco, they sent it to be repaired and when it came back said they replaced the modem, but it still won't connect at 56k when all my other Macs will.
so I took my PowerBook back to the Apple store in San Francisco, and they connected it to a phone line and got a 31k connection and told me, Well the modem connects, so as far as we're concerned it works, and the 56k is only the maximum theoretical connection speed and Apple does not guarantee you will actually get that modem baud rate, so we are not going to do anything else about it. I told them that there is nothing theoretical about all my other Macs connecting to the same ISP at higher speeds than the PowerBook and that Apple should be able to test the PowerBook to determine if their own tech guys can get a 56k connection with my PowerBook. The Apple store guy called his manager, who refused to do any more work on the computer.

Food for thought:  There is actually information released by the NTSB that even using "hands free" devices while driving have been proven to  distract drivers.
As for the Bluetooth commands: I've never used "speed dial" I usually say "Call Nicole Mobile" and it will connect still with no problems.
I just tried to use the voice command "call speed dial 1" and it did not recognize it.  It appears you must use the name now.

  • Re: skype to go speed dial contacts

Hi, this does not appear to affect my Speed Dial list so how to change it? Please provide more detailed intrsuctions. Currently the first 9 contacts in my Skype to Go numbers constitute my Speed Dials. If I could re-organise my Skype to Go list, I suspect it would change the Speed Dials. There appears to be no way to do this???

  • Speed Dials on 7941/61?

Here's a simple one for you. When I set up Speed Dials on 7911G's, I can scroll through them using the Green UP/Down Arrow Keys. This feature doesn't seem to be in the 7941/61G's. In order to use the speed dials, I need to dials the number and press AbbrDial. This is fine but the User would then need to know all of their speed dials off the top of their head from the beginning.

    Hi,
You have probably solved this already. But just in case.
7941 / 61's can have both abbr dials and speed dials. The speed dials on these phones are associated to the line buttons on the phone. i.e. 1 speed dial on a 41 and 5 on a 61.
However, you need to change the phone button template so that the buttons are set to speed dial instead of lines.
Then they should be available to set as speed dials.
    Cheers,
    Tim.

  • Problem with speed dial

    Hello,
Just picked up my iPhone 5 and noticed an existing speed dial from my favorites is not working properly.
My speed dial contains a 10 digit phone number, a 10 digit access code, and a 5 digit password all separated by commas.  When activated from my favorites the phone number dials perfectly but the 10 digit access code, and a 5 digit password dials very slowly and my system does not recognize the entries.
I deleted the favorite from my contacts and re entered it with the same result. Even re installed ios 6 but no help.
This feature worked perfectly on my iphone 4.
Any ideas your help would be greatly appreciated.

    All,
Just went to a Verizon store and conducted a test. I used an iPhone 4S and a iPhone 5 both running ios 6. The 4s dialed a programmed speed dial containing an access phone number, a access number and a password. It worked flawlessly. Ran the same series of numbers on the iPhone 5 (not mine) and it failed miserably.
I hope that apple can provide a fix for us speed dialers. It's quite annoying.
    Thanks

  • Biased Hall effect sensor and NI 9201 module. How can I calculate the velocity of an object?

For my final year project at university I have designed and built a drop tower for testing the energy dissipation performance of test pieces.
In the system I specified having a biased Hall effect sensor (gear tooth sensor) to calculate the speed of the impactor by having a serrated target (ferritic) moving past it.
The idea behind having a serrated target was to enable an average of several readings of time period to be taken, then to use this to divide the known length of the serrations to calculate speed.
The problem I am having is when using the time period measuring block in LV it only wants to measure the period of the first wave, is there any way I could get LV to measure all four periods (there are four serrations) and average them?
Here is an image of the target incase what I have said was a little confusing: http://tinypic.com/r/2a0b8ck/6
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    1. The NI 9201 has only analog inputs, so you have no other choices with that devices.  I did not look it up before my earlier response.  Something about the wording of your first post made me think you were measuring the period with a counter.
    2. I am not sure which "time period measuring block" you are using.  Please post your VI.  Before you post it, run it with your Hall sensor so that you have some data recorded.  Go to the Edit menu and choose Make Current Values Default."  Save the VI.  The indicators on your VI will then have your data saved.  Post that VI.
    3. I am assuming that you will get a signal which looks something like this, although not necessarily starting exactl at zero time or having exactly uniform spacing between the pulses.
Using some simple logic you can determine the time of the transitions between high and low.  The differences between the times of successive transitions are your periods.  For the image above the falling edges (going from +1 to -1) occur at about 64, 192, 320, and 448.  The differences are 128 in each case.  For your impact data the differences are likely to not all be the same as yout target decelerates.
After I see you VI, I can give some suggestions about how to proceed to calculate the differences.

  • Internet Speed Assistance

I have noticed btw the hours of 11:30 pm and 1:00am, give or take, my connection drops to a standstill or dial up like speeds.  There are also times in the late afternoon I have notice the same slowdown.  I have a new ONT and router, and this has not fixed the issue.  It does not matter whether I am wired or wireless, or using a Mac or a PC.  Restarting or rebooting the router do not resolve it. When I do a diagnostic via my Mac, it tells me I am connected to network. I also have nothing but green lights on the router.
In my last call to tech support, it was suggested that interference was the problem (neighbor signal, etc.)  and I should try to get another antenna for the router to boost the signal, and/or get an amplifier.  (I imagine I could get either at Radio Shack.)  If the problem were just the wireless I could understand, but again, it happens when I am hard wired.  I do not have a 2.4 mhz cordless phone near the router, though the router is placed near our TV.  I don't think this would account for the snail like slowness especially when I am noticing the slowness @ particular times during the day.  It was also suggested that my spitter or the coax cable could be the issue, but again, I doubt it b/c as I type this now, I am not having issues with speed. Has anyone experienced this?
I am so far happy with my TV and phone experience, now that Vezion resolved some initial issues, but the internet problem is frustrating.  I never had such issues with Comcast; though I don't want to go back to them for a number of reasons. It's already bad enough I am tied to the Vz router and wireless b or g speed. An yes, I am aware there are ways to use one's own routers, but I like being able to get the guide, widgets, etc b/c I have FIOS TV.  I do hope that Verizon moves away from their router at some point and like Comcast, allows the STB's to receive the guide, VOD, etc. info so that customers can use their own routers.
Okay, that rant aside, TIA for any help on my slowness issue.

Verizons web site is always slow....cant go by it. But if your speed is always slow, the first thing to do is get a baseline to see exactly what we are working with.
Go to www.speedtest.net  or www.speakeasy.net/speedtest  and run a test to a server near you and get a reading of what the speeds are like.
Then if you are running Windows XP try optimizing your settings by going Here
Try rebooting the computer and router
Check for the number of processes running on the computer and the amount of ram. If you have, say...more than 70 processes or less than 512mb of ram these may be slowing the computer down
Then if still slow, post back with your results and we can take a looka at other suggestions

  • Is there an updated way of setting QuickTime streaming speed for iChat?

I've been using iChat screen share to help a friend.  The first time we tried it, it worked well; the second time, however (same computers), the image of the screen I recieved was suddenly very low resolution (too low for me to see what I'm doing).  It sometimes clears up after around 30-40 seconds, but once a window is moved, etc, the problem reoccurs, making the process tedious to the point that I don't think I'd go through this.  I saw in a previous community tip that changing the streaming speed in Quicktime can resolve this issue; they specified that this must be done through the Quicktime icon in System Preferences, and not through the standard Quicktime app..  that was for OS 10.5.6; on my OS (10.6.8, and the new QT), Quicktime is now missing from the System Preferences panal  : /..  I also saw a user comment on another site saying, "Basically, [the new] QTX lacks the option to pick your codec, frame size, data rate, and so on."  So was QuickTime's streaming speed function lost, and do I really need Quicktime to accomplish better image quality for iChat?  If it can't be fixed, is there a better screen sharing utility I can get that won't have these problems?  Thanks for any help : )..

    Hi,
Back before iChat 4 the Video part of iChat chats was based on the reading the app ttok from the Internet speed it could see.
This speed was directly effected by the then System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab setting.
Basically the Automatic Setting was read a 0 (zero) kbps.
The Fastest Setting of Intranet/LAN also got messed up  (it would not return a figure iChat could use)
For that reason we used to Suggest that people use the 1.5Mbps T1/Intranet/LAN setting
This limited Video streaming by any app to 1500kbps both as Upload and Download  (this is fact a rough figure based on using base 10 rather than the true binary based math involved)
At iChat 4 Apple made iChat see the Automatic setting as 384kbps
This should be fast enough for 4 way Video chats as the Host end. (the person that invites the others)
By Snow Leopard (iChat 5) the Quicktime Setting has gone in System Preferences.
The way iChat "reads" the Internet Speed is different and it is not restricted by Quicktime.
The only way to Cap iChat now is the App Menu > Preferences > Video Section > Bandwidth Limit
Apple state the minimum Internet speed that iChat should have for Screen Sharing is 128kbps
Internet Speeds tends to be based on Binary multiple at lower speeds - 56kbps  is max Dial-up Modem speed
128kbps is obviously twice that. The next speed split is like to be 265kbps
Check that you and your Buddy have at least 128kbps as Upload as well as download.
    http://www.speedtest.net/
Ideally it should be faster as at that speed you can lose between 10 and 20% in the test  and the overheads of running the connection to the ISP
Setting the Bandwidth (in iChat) at 500kbps at both ends can eradicate the variances you can get in slower Internet speeds.
In Snow Leopard Quicktime has become Quicktime X and does have issues playing some Quicktime 7 movies.
This also applies to Lion and Mountian Lion
However there are ways to install the Quicktime 7 Player that will cover the codecs that may not be played.
This info does not apply to iChat though.

  • Internet connecting at much lower speed lately

I have HSI Enhanced and have had it for 10 months at this location and for a number of years at my previous location. Last October I was connecting at 3360 / 832 kbps. After some months it went down to  around 2800 / 832 kpbs. I wasn't crazy about speeds getting lower as time went on rather than the connection being improved, but it was pretty much free of disconnects and reliable so I was happy with it.
In the past month or so I had noise on my voice line which Verizon fixed, but my connection is now 1792 / 448 Kbps all the time, that is a drop I will not accept if this is the way it is going to be from now on. Also there is a lot of losing the connection, not to the DSL, that light stays on but the internet light goes off. I went through the usual channels online chat, telephone support to wherever that goes. I'm done with all that, that's good for people with trouble using their modem, etc. or can't connect it but not what I am looking for.
Finally they sent out a tech who was a nice enough person, what he did was call a central office and after them first claiming the lower speed was the right speed they put the connection back in the area of 3360/832. Then they said it will probably adjust itself to down around 2800 down, which it what I had before so I was OK with it. After several days with a number of disconnects (they don't last too long but very annoying) I am back to 1792 / 448.
I am using the same modem - Actiontec GT704WGB
I don't need a tech call here in the house again, nothing has changed in here since I moved in months ago. They can check the outside signal without me waiting around for them. They don't have to stand in here to call an office on their tablet.
I need to hear from Verizon personnel that can tell me LOCAL information about why my connection speed has tanked and why there are dropouts now. And most importantly, why it can't be the same as it was for all those months. As I said, I was happy with that - especially when it was 3360 / 832 kbps.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

When Verizon turns your speed back up, they have to disable the optimization system they use on the lines to maintain your speed, since it sounds like that is just turning your speed back down after a few days. Make them fix it back again.
For future note, if you do have problems with your DSL and you're also having audio quality issues with your phone, call Voice Repair, and leave DSL support out of the mix. DSL support usually dials back the speed for a line issue from what I've seen as a first try basis. If you do have noise that disappears when the DSL modem is off, then that could be from other things which DSL support OR phone support will be needed for.
Ex: Two years ago I had a problem with my Frontier DSL line having a ton of static on the line. The DSL modem was not synchronizing, however the noise stopped when I shut off the modem. It turns out, the night before lightning struck a tree outside of my home, and caused the DSL modem which was several years old to fry. The modem was still powering up, but the chip responsible for the DSL connection itself was blown. A new modem from Frontier via DSL Support fixed the DSL connection AND the static.
Ex2: At a local business with Verizon DSL, they hear static on their line from time to time, but only while the DSL is active. The problem was not with the DSL itself or any filters, but as the static got worse it began to show up without the DSL being connected. Voice repair was dispatched instead of calling DSL Support, and resolved the problem by running new cable between the building and the Verizon copper trunk. In addition, they found and corrected some corroding splices.

  • PLW400 Speed drop and other issues

    Hi..
I bought the PLW400 a while back and it's been working perfectly for months!.. but two weeks ago it stopped working.. so I turned it off and back on but still didn't work. So I did a full reset and reconfigured everything and it finally worked.. but the speed dropped from 20mb to 1mb!! and every few hours it stops working and appear to have lost connection or sometimes it works but with a super slow (dial up like) speed! and sometimes when it stops all of the sudden I see the LEDs blinking slow or turned off!
I've tried to plug it in different places and it was all the same, but when I tried plugging it in next to the main device in the same room I got 10mb.. better but still! my original speed when connecting directly to my router is 40mb!!  What's going on here?
Has anyone else experienced something like this? can someone please help me?

  • Since upgrading to FF6 and now through FF7 web pages need repeated refreshing to load this does not happen with other browsers. I have tried many solutions. None have worked. Any ideas?

Problem began after a Firefox 6 update (i do not remember which one) and has continued through current use of Firefox 7.0.1. Almost all '''web pages load only through repeated refreshing'''. If I do not refresh the web page it will just continue to try to load (as seen by the green rotating ring continually revolving) in a new window with a new tab (as I have set it to do). Nothing stops, nothing crashes. Once the web page completes and opens (after the refreshings) I can close the window click on the bookmark icon or originating link and the web page will load and open quickly (as it should). I have searched for solutions on the Mozilla site and have done many of the possible solutions (deleting history and caches, etc.) Problem seems to be communication in origin (my FF browser talking to web page server). I do not use a proxy. My set up to the internet is: laptop thru Verizon USB modem to internet. Operates as a wireless dial-up with speeds averaging 55 kbs (fast enough for me). I have used this set up for years with no previous trouble. Anyone have similar trouble, ideas or solutions?

Thanks for your reply cor-el. I had never heard of nor seen the pref network.http.max-connections until I read about it in some of the replies in this support forum. People were saying 256 was the old setting and a new setting of 48 would correct my problem. When I followed the instructions to get to - see - and change the setting I discovered that my network.http.max-connections was already set to 48. I never did this. The only way I can think of that this setting was changed is that it happened by an automatic update to my Firefox browser. So, the problem I have was probably happening while this setting was at 48 all along. It is still set at 48 and I am still having the same problem. I will try as you suggest and set it to 30 and see what happens. I'll let you know the results. That's again for your response.
