Different settings for different projects

Hi,
I'm wondering why it is that Final Cut Pro cannot keep different AV setups and scratch disks for different projects. I am working with several different projects on my computer. Some in PAL, some in NTSC, some capturing from Betacam, others from DV, and all having different capture settings, including different scratch disks.
Every time I open a different project, I have to reset every one of these things...you'd think it was an incredibly basic thing to have these things "remembered" by project, so that you didn't have to reconfigure everything every time you switched (even with making an Easy Setup it's a pain). Or maybe it IS incredibly basic and I'm just missing something?
Thanks in advance for shedding light on this subject!

Thanks for the response...that is a good suggestion, I might try that if it turns out to be quicker to switch user than to switch settings each time.... I'll have to think through the implications, like permissions and such, to make sure I don't dig the hole deeper. But I like the idea because I do need to digitize to different drives as they get disconnected from my system and travel to different places, heheh...
This is something I've hated about FCP for years and years...today I was thinking about it and thought, it can't be, it's just such a basic thing, available in so many applications...I must be wrong and there must be a way to do it that I don't know about! I mean, for me it's enough to want to take the Pro off the end of Final Cut Pro. For people who use this tool in the industry I'd say it's almost a must-have. I mean, you can work without it, but it IS a big pain!
In any case, thanks for your help!

  • Resolution Settings for Video Projection

I am creating a basic slide show in FCP using color and black and white still images. There are two desired outputs. Currently I'm working on the sequence for video projection, ( a final quicktime movie will be launched on a computer and projected on an 8ft x 8ft screen). The highest resolution of the projector is 1024 x 768. What are the size settings I should use to create my sequence and what compression settings should I use for my final exported piece? Of course I want to maintain the highest possible quality for the photographic stills.
    Thanks,

Create a custom sequence which is slightly smaller than the photos so you could move on them... The Compression should probably be Photo JPEG... In QT playback, the screen will resize accordingly... i.e. if you're working in 1024X768, I'd probably work in that sequence size keeping the stills larger than that... But not more than about 2k in either direction or the computer will most likely choke on them. Raise the still cache in the memory settings up a bit for more RT playback.
Will take a pretty serious hard drive to play this back BTW... as in fast... it's data rate wil likely be about the same as uncompressed HD... set the slider in the compression to abu 75% to gain 4:2:2 color space... 100% will give you larger files that likely won't really look much better.

  • Best settings for DVD project

I have done all of my work so far for online projects so I didn't realise that dvd always has dimensions of 720x576, and that it is only blueray which plays in full HD, until I started building a DVD project in Encore.
    I would like some advice to produce the best possible results on a dvd format;
I presume that this means I must build all my menus in photoshop to 720x576 dimensions?
But what about the video itself? It was filmed in 1920x1080, and was created on a 1920x1080 timeline in Premiere Pro, can I simply export it at as an SD file?
What I'm asking really is how should I export my project from Premiere, and build it in Encore for best possible results for DVD format?
    Thanks in advance

  • How do I control the Quicktime Export settings for a project

I want to make a printed photo album in iPhoto for my parents Diamond Wedding Anniversary and so have set up a project with the appropriate template. I now want to create a preview quicktime movie of the book so far in order to send it to my brother and sister. I chose file>export but I get no options for changing the transitions, music or timing of the movie.
iPhoto help seems to imply that it will use the setting for the slide show but I have changed these with no effect. Am I out of luck and there is no option or have I missed something.
    Thanks
    Dave

You're not able to set different transitions by that method. However, if you follow Old Toad's Tutorials #6 thru Step 5 you can create a slideshow in iPhoto with the transitions of your choice, music, etc. and use the Share->Send to iDVD menu option. You don't have to use iDVD after that as the exported movie will be saved in your Movies folder. From there, if you've got Quicktime Pro, you can open the movie in QT Player and export in any number of formats and sizes. It would depend on how you plan to deliver the movie as to what export option you would use.
You could make an iWeb slideshow of the book like this demo page or create DVDs which can be played on TV sets by following Tutorial #6 thru to completion.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • SEQUENCE SETTINGS FOR HD PROJECT

I just started a HD project elements were shot 720p 60 on p2. My sequence settings are Frame Size 960x720 Compressor is DVCPRO HD 720p60. Video rate is 29.97. There will be SD file footage mixed in as well. mostly mini DV tape and there are DVDs as well. I am going to edit this sequence in HD and export it either to a SD deck or to a DVD. Before I get into my project too deep are these sequence settings correct? I ask this because my sequence was hesitating while I was playing it back. I got error messages telling me to change my RT bandwith, and change disk speed. I am thinking it was my sequence settings causing this.

Now I have a new issue that just popped up. I have 2 Lacie drives i am working with. As per Lacie Tech support they recommended me not to daisy chain the drives. I have then separately connected. One of the drives is not seen I am getting a message telling me the drive was not properly removed and all of my video that I captured to it is offline. This happened earlier and I re launched and the media came back. Why is this happening?

  • What is the best Practice JCO Connection Settings for DC  Project

When multiple users are using the system data is missing from Web Dynpro Screens.  This seems to be due to running out of connections to pull data.
I have a WebDynpro Project based on component development using DC's.  I have one main DC which uses other DC's as Lookup Windows.  All DC's have their Own Apps.  Also inside the main DC screen, the data is populated from multiple function modules.
There are about 7 lookup DC Apps accessed by the user
I have created JCO destinations with following settigns
    Max Pool Size 20
    Max Number of Connections 200
Before I moved to DC project it was regular Web Dynpro Project with one Application and all lookup windows were inside the same Project.  I never had the issue with the same settings.
Now may be becuase of DC usage and increase in applications I am running out of connections.
Has any one faced the problem.  Can anyone suggest the best practice of how to size JCO connections.
It does not make any sense that just with 15-20 concurrent users I am seeing this issue.
All lookup components are destroyed after its use and is created manually as needed.  What else can I do to manage connections
    Any advise is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • BEST Settings for motion project to be screened in a Cinema?

Ok so this is my first major dilemma!
I have to do a bunch of Cinema ads, compiled from psd, bmp, jpg files, that need to be for a Cinema screen (PAL). The ads will be screened off a DVD/Projector and compiled with a bunch of Movie trailers.
I am not sure what sequence settings in motion are going to give me the best quality, and I can't test the quality until the opening night of the festival!
Does anyone know what will give me the cleanest image?

    hi,
well a lot depends on the footage you might be using. Use the setting that matches that. Or if its graphics based use the biggest baddest HD setting you can. Of course if the finished thing is getting burnt to a DVD to be shown its all going to be compressed then and lose quality at that stage.

  • Can you save system settings scratch disks locations for each project?

When you begin a new project in FCE you need to set the System Settings Scratch Disks. Typically you would set a new folder for each project to keep all of your files for each project in one location for that project.
I have a couple of FCE projects going at the same time. I've set each project with a different system setting scratch disk location. But if I open a project which should have a unique scratch disk location folder that I've already set before for that project, it ignores the setting I set for that project and just shows the scratch disk setting for the last project opened instead. It does not appear to save or remember the unique setting for that project.
If you have multiple projects going at the same time, is there a way to save the systems settings scratch disk location for each project and have FCE remember that location for each project?

I turned off the Open Last Project on Application Launch in the User Preferences and it still does not remember the unique scratch disk settings for each project.
Since it is quite common to be working on multiple projects simultaneously, you would think that there would be a way in which to save the settings for each project to help keep all related files better organized.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Best project settings for multiple outputs

    Hi guys,
I have a project that will be needed to be outputted to many different formats (web, hd, sd, flash etc).
What's the best settings for a project of this type... obviously the highest common denominator... but your suggestions would be appreciated.
PS... I'm is Australia (PAL), and the project will only be displayed in Australia.

You got it - highest resolution requirement. Then use Compressor to create the lower rez versions from your exported Quicktime.

  • Best project settings for yet unknown output

We are using Premiere Pro CS4 (+others from Master Collection). I should edit few minutes long music-video-like collage, using only still pictures. Is it possible to say, what kind of project settings (resolution etc.) it would be best to use, when the final result will be going to various output devices. HD, DVD, web... How to maximize the "portability" of the project?
    Thanks for any advice!

Thanks for your help, but the problem is not with camera models. The material is only still images from digital slr cameras. I will just make a nice & slow "image show" of them, maybe using little bit panning & zooming in timeline.
It will for sure be delivered with SD-DVD, projected straight from computer, maybe presented in lowres web  version.
But if I need even higher definations, what kind of settings I should use, to enable easy downscaling to those lower resolutions mentioned?
Progressive propably, full HD 1920x1080? Should I make some custom settings for the project or select some  presets, and if so, which?
There is so many them and I'm convenient only with the PAL-SD

  • Premiere Basic Settings for MTS

A bit new to Premiere but coming up to speed fast.  I have scoured the forums and docs for the following basic questions but have come up empty.  However, I am still unclear on what to use for the basic settings for my project to get me the best results.  Basically I want to create the project in Premiere and output it as an NTSC DVD via Encore.  I have .MTS files from a Canon HG21 shot as either MXP (1920x1080) for some projects and SP (1440x1080)  for others and so when I start a project, I:
leave the Project presets but select the Capture Format as HDV
not sure what to set for the Sequence presets.
Would love any guidanceor pointers to the rights docs.  Thanks!

I guess the HG21 is an AVCHD camera, it definitely is not HDV. You should use sequence settings that reflect the majority of your material. If 2/3 of your material was shot at 1920 x 1080, use that as the sequence setting and just use the rest of your material in that sequence.

  • Optimal settings for export from 1080p camcorder - Canon HF100

I just bought an HF100 camcorder. When I make projects with iMovie what are best export settings for 1080p projects? What about for 480p for a DVD. I tried to export 1080p video and it looks grainy. I'm not sure if this is the fault of the camera or iMovie?
Also, when I play clips inside imovie the playback is choppy. Is there anyway to fix this?

I'm using a HF10, and I don't think iMovie '08 properly detects that 1080p recordings from these camcorders are progressive scan, but rather treats then like 1080i clips. I find I get better results by recording in the default 1080i if there's sideways motion in the video. That doesn't really surprise me - according to the AVCHD consortium website, there's no such thing as 1080p in AVCHD (see http://www.avchd-info.org/format/index.html).
DVDs are always interlaced anyway, so for best results you want to start with 1080i and not 1080p. I export at 960x540i, using the Quicktime export option selecting "High" quality mode. The default "Large" sharing option in iMovie uses a bitrate that I find too low for getting the best quality.
When you export at 1080p, what is your bitrate set to? That makes a lot of difference.
Finally, 1080p playback is very hard work for your computer. Try quitting other applications before playing back your video to get a smooth experience. Or export at 540p.

  • Stabilization for the project with the different video settings

If i open project with the settings for 1080p video and then add to it 720p video, how can i make stabilization for it? (When i open another video with the different sequence settings it does not allow me to make stabilization)
Is there any way of working in one sequence with the different settings of the video?

Footage that does not match the sequence setting nest first then add the Warp.
