Disappointed in Sony's MirrorLink suport

Seems like Sony developed these recievers to only be compatible with phones available 3 years ago and refuse to do any additional updates.  I bought the 712HD just 3 months ago and its already out dated.  Heck it was outdated when I got it,  after a lot of frustration with figuring out the exact order to turn things on and connect them - I finally got it working with my HTC phone.  Just got a new Samsung S6 this week and can't get that working at all -  The phone knows its being connected but the reciever just keeps telling me to connect the phone.  Sony's stock answer is to point you to their compatibility website that only shows the Samsung Galaxy S3 as being compatible.   THE S3 WAS RELEASED 3 YEARS AGO!!!!    Come on Sony you're better than this.

Hi drwuzer,
Welcome to the Sony Community!
May we please have the model number of your Sony Receiver so we could assist you regarding this one. Thank you!

  • Very very disappointed to Sony Xperia Z2

hi, i bought Sony Xperia Z2 mid of last year, i very happy to own it because it's has the best camera for Android.but after less than half years, this phone had "Ghost Screen" as this thread - https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z2/GHOST-touch-problem-Z2/td-p/663333 that time i tried factory reset and all suggestions from google results also not working,so i send to warranty, and wait almost 1 month just can get back my phone, and i noticed that phone i received is not same as my original phone, i think Sony Server Center changed another phone for me, either repaired phone by other owner or new phone, but this is not a big issue, as long as i can use back my phone now Sony Xperia Z2 give me another issue - "Camera Not Available"many functions cannot use included Camera, Video and others, except these, battery also drain very fast, overnight the battery can drop from 30% to 2% without data and wifi my warranty is over, but i will send it to warranty, if need any charges i won't consider to repair anymore and just keep it as backup phone, and buy another new flagship phone NOT from SONY anymore last to say, i really disappointed to Sony phone

Did you try to do a PC Companion phone repair? This will do a clean installation of the latest firmware and will also wipe your internal memory.
Open PC companion -> Support zone -> Phone/tablet software update -> Repair my phone/tablet (blue link style). Follow the steps given, do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable.

  • A bone to pick with SONY products

First off, I have been looking for a place to voice my opinion, this is the only official SONY place I can find. Being a Sony product buyer I feel the need to ask questions and ponder what Sony does wrong and how they can correct things across the board with many of the principal products on the market such as the Play Station 3, Vaio, and Vita, and the soon to be released S1 and S2 tablets.
I own many Sony products from stereo equipment, the play station, cameras, even had a Vaio at one point. All good products and all decent performance wise. What is getting me upset at this moment is how Sony decides what games are available for specific devices.
Example 1: Sony has many PS3 exclusives that could easily be even better graphically on a PC such as Kill Zone 3. Since they don't even attempt to make PC games, that would help raise the awareness of the Sony Vaio laptop, it makes me wonder why? Can't they release certain titles from the PS3 maybe a year later or more once they are no longer the hot gaming item they once were? I would love to play Kill Zone in glorious graphical detail, I have even read as much from the creators of the game which was created on PC, that the game is leaps and bounds BETTER on a PC.
Example 2: Sony is releasing the VITA hand held gaming device almost at the same time as the S1 and S2 tablets. This is the true area I wish to focus on, product marketing, decisions etc. First off, the excitement of the exclusive titles the VITA will have will certainly make gamers flock to get one, but, the catch is that for a portable device it only has close to 3 hours of battery life? Terrible. So the S1 and S2 tablets are coming out, with the stamp of approval of Play Station games, but so far what I have seen are games from PS1 which is a major leap backwards for gaming from Sony. So the VITA is going to be a marvel of graphical wonder while a device, which in theory should be even more powerful, like the S1 tablet is going to be offering content a decade back in terms of technology?
This part of the equation I can't seem to wrap my head around. What the S1 should have been was a major competitor to the Apple iPad and from what I have read in terms of specs and offerings, it is not much better than a Samsung Galaxy tab. Very disappointed that Sony has put out such an underwhelming product. It is still almost too early to be talking about the S1 and S2 as failures, but in terms of marketing, and telling its customers what it actually is and has available I am very very disappointed. If any company on this planet could have made Apple look bad it was Sony and they failed. The Sony S1 tablet should have been rivaling the graphic power of the VITA, it also should have wireless PS3 controller technology, it should already have exclusive games being offered JUST LIKE THE VITA. Instead we are seeing what looks like a product pushed out the gate too early, with specs that do not beat any other tablet on the market, it is simply... there.
As a result of these examples I have given, I will not be buying any Sony Vaio's and I also will be passing on the S1 and S2 tablets in order to buy an Apple iPad 2. As for the VITA, I will also be passing on it for the short battery life, because long airplane rides are going to burn out battery life quickly on this device. It appears I will stick with my PS3 as it is the best gaming CONSOLE out, but not the best gaming platform, which is still being held by the PC which SONY refuses to improve upon.
The over all direction of SONY seems far too uncoordinated, all over the place, and not stream line. This is one of the things APPLE does so well, they make specific product with top notch quality, and they do it well. Sony is usually late to the game in certain areas of technology, but usually they offer something new and improved upon, so far the latest SONY gadgets seem like they are just good enough for a passing grade, but nothing to really be excited about.

  • Xperia z1, too many problems and poor response from sony.

I thought Xperia z1 is best has sony made ever in every department but it's not. I'm very disappointed with sony's neglected response. I contacted sony 2 times but there is no response. also in support forum can't to get response sometimes. I agree with it is a best camera, yep in day light it's a best but in low light it's worse. z1 can't beat even Xperia c mid range phone. then why sony called z1 is a flagship. on white paper everything is good but practicaly it's not. I don't know what is the in z1 series. it freezes and screen getting black after that even restart button also didn't work sometimes,, 2) network issue 3) lowlight photography is worse compare to other high end smartphones.
performance is good but need new software update for optimisation.. I was very happy when I bought but now I'm dossapointed with sony neglect response. battery drains very fast also.

    I suggest you contact sony:

  • Would like to ask Sony how long it would take to repair a Z3 tablet?

It has been almost 2 weeks since I sent my Z3 tablet for repair n there is not news. It's a brand new tablet bought during the last PC show. I am very disappointed with Sony products. Think this will be the last time I'll be buying Sony products.

  • BDP-S6200 Freezing issues: totally disables unit until unplugged # SHAME ON YOU SONY

I am extremely frustrated. I purchased 2 yes 2 new BDP-S6200 players from Best Buy about about two months ago. At first the units were working fine but of course after my return period ends, I start having issues. After doing some research, I see my issue is a frequent problem. Both units literally freeze and will not work at all either by using the remote or pushing the buttons on the unit. I literally have to unplug the devices to get the units "working" again. As a LONG TIME Sony supporter ( televisions, stereo receivers, DVD and BLU RAY players) I cannot believe Sony would allow such products to be Distributed. I contacted Sony support, tried all the "possible quick fixes" and still having issue. I'm now told I have to pack up and ship both units for repair. I could understand if I were the only person having issues but CLEARLY I'm not. Sony's reputation has been severely ruined in my mind. This is an absolute disgrace and I intend to tell everyone I know. So disappointed in Sony!

My BDP-BX620 is also experiencing the same issue.  I purchased one from Costco last week due to this issue and swapped it yesterday for a new unit.  It is just as bad if not worse.  I think Sony has some real quality control issues and is reluctant to address them.  I saw issues several years ago when I purchased a Sony A2020 DLP and it took literally a threat of lawsuits before the issue was resolved.  In this case, I suspect that it is due to totally inadequate tests following the initial design.  My problem specifically is when I watch Dynasty on Amazon.  I have had the unit freeze up at least 6 times today.  Once while everything looked like all is well while watching a selection and other times when I make a selection on the control.  One time, the phone rang and my wife wanted to pause Amazon and she could not.  I disconnected the battery in the remote and that did not fix it.  After I powered the unit off and on it did restart.  I will be returning this product to Costco, probably next week and am very unlikely to trust the Sony brand again.  This is basically Sony's third strike and they are out!  It seems to me that they on the path of ruining what used to be a stellar name.  SHAME ON YOU SONY.  The picture on the SONY was excellent but what good is it if I constantly have to put up with all these problems.  I could easily accept one bad unit but two in a row seems very unreasonable to me.

  • Sony Xperia M4 Vertical lines on display

I bought my Sony Xperia M4 Smart phone in Khobar, KSA last month. But, within 20 days of use, it is showing Vertical lines on the display, even it comes on photos also. I have given the phone to Sony Service centre(Modern Electronics- Khobar, It is in a remote place and not easy to approach everytime) two weeks before, it is still there under service for more than two weeks.I am very much disappointed with Sony, ofcourse i am a fan of Sony brand. Now i am feeling that i choosed wrongly this brand since i could not use the phone for this long time.It should be a manufacturing defect (It has no damage and not dropped anytime) but i am the one suffering. Will sony consider this matter and provide a positive solution. My Service Order is 601021721.

  • Sony Dreammachine Clock radio.

I purchased this product 2 years ago and enjoyed it immensely but last month it just stopped working. I was informed by your repair division that I could send it in and they would give me a quote to repair(anywhere between $10 to $100). Once I shipped to your repair center I was told that all repairs are $90 and they refused to even look at it until I paid…..i spent $15 to ship and would never have sent in this product if they told me it’s a flat $90 fee…ie I only paid $150 for this product.
Im really sad to think Sony products die after 2 yrs and that you would charge a loyal customer(my family all had sony tvs, etc) $90 to repair a product that costs $150. At least reimburse the postage costs and fix the product for a reasonable fee…The product was shipped back to me with no note or letter…..horrible experience!
I want to express my continued disappointment in Sony and its handling of this situation. I recently received a phone call offering me 2 other Sony Clock radio’s……one for $35 and another for $50….neither of which came close to the Dream Machine Clock radio…ie no LCD screen to watch movies, photo storage, etc etc…..I already spent $25 in shipping plus batteries(thinking the battery died which wasn’t the case) to try and rectify this situation. Why cant someone just fix this machine….it shouldn’t have died after 2 yrs….....i would hope you would allow me to reship(at Sony’s expense this time) and that you would be able to fix it and no expense to me….

I'm sorry to read about your disappointment with Sony Mikasony.
I would just like to inform you that the available operations of  the MirrorLink function vary depending on the smartphone or the application being used. Therefore, some of the applications installed in the smartphone may not work when using the MirrorLink function. You can close the application and remove the USB connection between the smartphone and the car stereo then, reconnect again to resolve the issue. Here's the list of compatible devices.
NOTE: For inquires about the application that is not working, contact the application vendor or the smartphone's manufacturer.

  • Why I left Windows Phone

So yesterday I got my Samsung Galaxy S3. It is a great phone, but I felt kind of bummed out because the device I replaced was my HTC Trophy, a Windows phone. This ended my 1 year plus use of the Windows Phone OS and sent me back to Android once again. Why? There were a few reasons for this, I just wanted to name a few.
    1. Hardware - Anyone who jumped in on Windows Phone's only offering to Verizon customers at the time knew that the hardware was below par of most Android devices offered at the time. Lack of SD card and display made it a mediocre choice, but the new OS was intriguing enough to draw me in. I had an Xperia Play (another disappointing phone Sony)  and decided to trade it for my Trophy. Though the screen and camera were not on par with Sony's offering, I really wanted to give it a try. Being a Zune HD user made the transition pretty easy & the interface was beautiful. Again, hardware was lacking, but driven by an innovating OS. New hardware specs are pretty much on par with recent Android devices, but that cannot make up for....
    2. Software - I found my Trophy had a few hiccups once in a while. Nothing too bad, but apps would sometimes force close or not even open at all. There was a single upgrade that could not be done OTA, but had to be hooked up to Zune to download and install. This was not too much of a issue at first, but why no OTA over at least WiFi? It would come to be a non issue since the Trophy was the ******* child of Verizon, put in a room somewhere; forgotten about and left to just sit there with no updates whatsoever. After a while, I got frustrated and turned to XDA for custom builds. One was a 7.8 build which made the OS slightly more appealing, but still had OS issues with apps. Speaking of.....
    3. Apps & Marketplace - This was the major flaw with WP. No apps. Sure there were a few offerings, but nothing compared to iOS or Android. I know WP is newer to the market and had claimed a huge increase in apps, but from what I could see, nothing worth bragging about. One example was Draw Something. This game had come and gone, gone even further, and then was given life on WP, well sort of given life. It was buggy, crashed constantly, and finding someone to play with was hardly worth the effort. Other games like Mini Squadron and Final Fantasy ran perfect and provided a lot of entertainment. Oh, Physibricks was also a great one! Other apps were nothing more than web page conversions. The entire time I used my phone I only had good experiences with the Engadget app (when using 3G, WiFi was slower for some reason) and the Zune software, which was the best integrated music software ever imo. Songs loaded fast and the huge marketplace made it easy to get any song you wanted. This is the one feature I really loved about WP. I could be somewhere, hear a song, hit the search button and select music. Not only would it find the song, it would take me to the market to download it though my ZunePass. Spotify, Pandora, IHeartRadio, none of these services could hold a match to Zune Pass on WP. This is the only thing I will miss on Android, well, until Xbox music has it App up and running, and if it is as nice as its WP counterpart.
Microsoft, you want to sell devices, then invest in the developers like you did with Xbox. You got Nokia which was an awesome start, but you knew the market you were getting into and knew what your competitors had out there. You should have gone in stronger than this. Offer developers 100% of their profits, 1 year of  Xbox music free with new device, $0.99 app submit fee, free development software, big incentives for developers to bring apps over from other OS's, $2.99 for Angry Birds?, bring more of your Xbox live titles to mobile,  and tap your home developers (XDA!) to see what you could do to bring customers. Start off big and work with handset developers and get their involvement. Its not too late to get things fixed, but to get me to come back to Windows phone and some others to leave iOS and Android, you need to get better fast or go the route of Kin.

You are right, to each their own.
I agree, the UI and the OS are good, but lacking in what is offered by the other two major OS's. Each one has their good and bad, but some more than others. You are right about low end options. I do like the 8X a lot, but after using other hardware besides HTC, I decided to give Samsung a try. The new WP8 hardware has started to look a lot more appealing, even in more ways than the normal Android offerings, but performance is still on par with what handset creators have been pushing on Android 6 months earlier.Dual Core processor, good GPU, MicroSD card slot, 4G, HD display. These are stats you could find in most Android devices a year ago. Now, does Windows phone need to surpass these stats? Not really, but its nice to have a somewhat future proof device that won't be obsolete 3-6 months after you get it with no chances of updating (WP7 users feel me on this). Microsoft set a standard HW requirement for WP7 and guess what, hardware manufactures stuck with it. Why? Because MS didn't allow a lot of the features that other phones had, weak strategy. Don't release behind the curve software if its not on par with your competition because you get behind the curve hardware to run it.
Weak apps is a definite description I still stand by. MS made a huge deal about app requirements and efforts to get developers to create apps that fit well into the WP7 environment. I saw very little of this if any. Even top name apps are buggy at best (ESPN, CNN, LinkedIn). I've used these apps on iOS and Android and the quality far exceeds those on WP. I don't need a lot of apps, just ones that are useful and functional for my everyday personal and professional use. If I can't depend of developers of major apps to provide high quality apps for a high quality OS, then what is the use? I can tell you there were many productive apps on my Android phones that I could not find on WP. Now, this could be because of WP7/8 app compatibility, but could not be sure.
Again, I wish I could had been more excited about WP8, but from my WP7 use, I could not trust entering into a 2 year contract with another unproven OS. I hope WP8 has majorly improved over its predecessor so I will be able to go back to a MS product, but until then, I'd feel better investing in a proven OS.

  • Phone keeps shutting down & unexpected battery drain

I'm having the same issue, my phone is just 3 days old but it keeps shutting down frequently. When I press the power button it doesn't get turned on, I called customer service who asked me to press power button +volume rocker which turned the phone on. However the main problem still persists -shutdowns frequently. Extremely disappointed with Sony

Hi doglady, I will be glad to assist you. Please provide via private message complete description of the problem, model # of unit, phone #, date of purchase and reference #'s related to the issue (i.e,event #, work order).  Thanks, Hailey

Hi Hailey - I am frustrated and disappointed with Sony Customer Service abroad, specifically, in the Philippines. I am unwilling to work with teams abroad after my experience and I have been a customer for over 10 years. I am also writing to the VP of Sony Electronics Sales, Mr. Michael Fasulo, of my poor experience via phone and chat with the Philippines team that did not resolve my isse and let me know that Customer Service is not their top priority, rather that Sony Policies are their number one priority. This attitude and lack of regard for the customer was communicated by both Vnice Employee ID 806407 and her Supervisor of Customer Service, Jessica, Employee ID 18353, both located in the Philippines. Due to Sony's lack of training and poor customer service, after 10 years of being a customer, I will cancel my order. When a Sony member reaches out I will only consider speaking with a US executive of Customer Service as the subject line indicates or will await communication from Mr. Fasulo. Please do not insist to communicate with teams based abroad. Please provide the VP Customer Relations contact email and phone in NY, USA as I will copy him on the correspondence to Mr. Fasulo. I await your reply with the VP of Customer Relations contact information.

  • Nik plug-ins won't work in PSE 12

First let me say the main problem lies with my computer.  It is underpowered for photo editing.  Nevertheless I can usually do what I need with PSE10.  Nik mostly works there in .tif, occasionally  I need to convert to jpeg.  Nik doesn't work at all in PSE 12, as soon as I hit "save" the image disappears, even takes down Elements with it. Also, I tried to run full version Photoshop but my computer said "no." I use Lightroom 4 without problems.
I am maxed out at 16 Gb of ram.  Hopefully a new computer is on the horizon, but not likely for months.
Does anyone know why  PSE 12 crashes and PSE 10 dosen't?

One more thing.  Nik worked fine in Lightroom 5, go figure.  There doesn't seem to be an update per see, but the reinstall seems to work.
I am disappointed that Sony doesn't work a little harder to make sure their ARW (RAW) files will open in these Adobe products.  Both Zoner Studio and Picassa will open ARW without updates!  Lightroom 4 aqnd PSE 10 are seviceable but I resent the extra steps with.dng conversion or having to buy newer software.
Thanks again for the swift reply and all the help.

  • KDL-43W800C BRAVIA Android TV Restarts itself over and over

    KDL-43W800C BRAVIA Android TV Restarts itself over and over.TV purchased on 30/6/2015 from PAI International Bangalore getting restarted automatically hightly disappointing ,considering Sony Brand value i purchased this costly LED .Sony Service request # 26296866.Sony chat representative asked me to do factory reset which didnt yield any result.Sony design & Manufacturing team could you please google with search word "Sony Bravia restart itself" & you will find multiple posts like below ;
https://www.community.sony.com/t5/Television-General/KDL-52V5100-BRAVIA-Restarts-itself-over-and-over/td-p/130867It is proved to be a Known issue with Sony Bravia TV's & Sony seems to be not serious to fix this issue but selling the defective / Problematic products to customers who gets fooled after paying high price just for the Brand value. My question here is IF SONY DOING PRODUCT TESTING IN CUSTOMER PLACE ? , Do you have Known error database , Root cause analysis , Problem fixing approach atall ?.Did i do a mistake by selecting your product ? if this issue isnt fixed i want you to take back the set & refund the entire amount. Please Dont sell any product till its completly tested & verified from now on..

Yes Restart issue got fixed Sony Service request # 26296866 : technical person visited my place & installed the latest software which seems to have fixed & i have been monitoring it from last 2 weeks.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Along with the above issue i reported "Ghosting on LED screen / White patches all over screen " when on & no signal input mode ,when my set top box is powered off.
My issue is exactly mentioned as "Mura Effect type 1 " in below link : http://sonyclouding.blogspot.in/2007/01/what-is-mura.html
"Mura Effect type 1 corresponds to a lack of homogeneity in control circuit adjustments. From one cell to another color control can change and it will lead to permanent defects in intensity in displayed images.engineer who visited my place to fix the reboot issue said Mura ghosting issue is common on Majority of Sony TV & its not an issue to worry about as the patches are not visible when the tv is on Tatasky mode when pictures are displayed. I should not worry abt this is no signal / black screen mode.I have writtent to Sony as below & awaiting response :1. Do you also agree that Mura effect as a known issue & customers like me need not to worry if so ? Sony are you ready to give my tv the lifetime warranty for the LED screen, if this Mura affect leads to serious damage to my screen after my warranty period i may have to invest 20 to 30k INR to get a replacement screen.2. https://community.sony.com/t5/Television-General/KDL-43W800C-BRAVIA-Android-TV-Restarts-itself-over-and-over/m-p/512249Mura effect issue raised by user of Sony community portal "Steve1570z" dead/stuck pixel on the lower right part of the screen. It was refunded, though - So Sony has accepted this issue & indeed refunded the purchase amount to the consumer. If Sony India can follow the same process or this varies b/w country to country ?

  • Completely frustrated...

I had originally wanted (and received) a PRS 950 with the idea that I would be able to download content from any source I chose that had a compatible format. Well as you know I was partially misguided - I can - from Sony - from any others ONLY when it is downloaded to a library program on a computer and then transferred via USB to the device. Not so quick or "user friendly".
Now, today I find out that not only must I jump through the above hoops, but OOPS, "mam, after testing it, your computer is not compatible with the Reader Library software" (shouldn't that statement be the other way around?). Yep, my "state of the art" MacBook cannot be used for my ereader library because it is, wait...64 bit. REALLY! This I could understand if my computer was "dated", but this is not an unusual computer configuration.
To top this off the cust. svc. agent had the nerve to suggest that it was an Apple problem and until they fixed it I would be unable to use my computer with my reader. I don't see where it is Apple's issue since Sony has the incompatible software and obviously hasn't rushed out to correct it for their Mac owning customers. They seem to forget that it's easier/cheaper to replace a reader than a laptop.
My husband has a Kindle that he payed over $100 less for AND he he hasn't had an issue yet AND he can play games AND well, he can't get content from outside vendors/libraries, but was having that worth all these other hassles...hmmm.

Totally disappointed with sony. The 1st reader i got in june of 2010 froze up 4 months after i got it and had to pay some 40 odd dollars to have a refurbished unit ( not a new one but refurbished one )sent to me as a replacement. Now the refurbished unit that i got some 2 and a half months ago fades out so that i cant read the script ,i have to shut it off and turn it on to be able to read then it happens again. it seems to happen more outdoors in sunlight than at home.
Guess what ..sony wants to send me another refurbished unit ?????why are we the consumers being thier testing division they should get the bugs out prior to selling the device and when a defect does show up find the problem and incorporate the fix in all units and stop screwing the people who buy thier product.Maybe i should have gotten a kindle or nook.
