Discverer Report Selecting 85M records

Hi,
Oracle Discoverer - 4.1
I have a discoverer report, which will selecting aroung 85 Million Records. While Running this report in Desktop, it takes arounnd 3 hours and still not populating any data. The CPU usage in the client goes to 100% and desktop becomes very slow.
But, whenever I run the same query used in the Report in SQLPLUS/Toad, it gives the result within 10 Minutes.
Can anybody give me a solution to overcome this problem.
Regards,
Ronald.

Hi Ronald,
Can you let me know what you are trying to achieve here? Are you trying to export 85M rows into a file using Discoverer? or are you trying to load 85M rows to the desktop so that the user can scroll through them?
Discoverer on your desktop is unlikly to have the capacity to hold 85M rows for the user to view and anyway I don't think a user would want to see all these rows. If you are using a cross tab report, Discoverer will have to get all the rows before it can display any data. If you are using a table report you can restrict the number of rows returned in the Discoverer options.
In general Toad just returns the first 50 rows from a query and therefore displays a result more quickly.

  • Opening updated report fails because record selection filter is invalid

    I am trying to update a report stored in BOE XI.  The report has been modified and the main part of the report has been moved to a subreport.   I first replace the .rpt file with the updated report.  Then I attempt to open the report using the code below it, but it throws an error and complains about an unknown field being mentioned in the filter
    oReportAppFactory = (IReportAppFactory) es.getService("", "RASReportService");
    oReportClientDocument = oReportAppFactory.openDocument((IInfoObject) oReport, 0, Locale.ENGLISH);

    If I manually delete the record selection filter in CMC before upgrading the report all works fine.  So, do I need to remove the filter before attempting to open the report or is there another step I'm missing to refresh the report using the newly updated .rpt file?

    An existing report is being updated.  The original report uses a single view and has a record selection filter.  The updated report uses the same view in a subreport, and the main report has no record selection filter.
    .rpt file is updated using IReport.replaceUnique(int, File).
    Changes are committed to IInfoStore -> iStore.commit(IReport)
    Refresh options are enabled

    changes are again committed.

  • Selecting Specific Records for a Report

    I have a report that requires 16 unique records to be displayed when the report is run.  The table holds thousands of records but the Daily Report only wants the records that have 16 unique entries for that specific period.  Is it possible to select these records only ?  Cannot be by date because the entries could have been made anytime during the past 24 hours.
    Ron Smith

    Hi Ron,
    Can you filter it with your max(readingfield)
    and, perhaps, a case statement.
    Select Tabel.Meter
          Case "West" : "A''
          Case "East"  : "B"
    or use Wallie's idea of an "in" statement
    Maybe you can use max(readingfield) in a sub select
    of the where clause.
    where table.date = (select max(readingfield) from table)
    or, if each meter has a different max(readingfield) ,  then pull each one
    in separately.
    or, create a view that pulls in the TOP 16 meters and link that
    to the table.  This should work if all else fails.
    I hope this helps,

  • Help with selecting 10 random records from all records meeting report selection criteria in Crystal 11

    <p>I am trying to select ten random records from all that match the report selection criteria then report on each of these random records for QA/QI.  I have tried the RND function however it is giving me a random number rather than a random record selection.  I cannot figure this out and am despirately seeking assistance.</p><p>Thank you,</p><p>Amy</p>

    <p>I don&#39;t know of any Random record selection functions but maybe you could write your own custom function inside of a record selection to randomly filter the records.  You would use the Rand function we currently have to decide if a record was included in the report data or not.</p><p>Another possible option is to filter the records before they get to the report.  You can only do this if you are pushing the data into the report instead of having the report pull the data.  An example of this would be passing an ado recordset to a report at runtime. </p><p>Rob Horne</p><p>http://diamond.businessobjects.com/blog/10 </p>

  • Report Selection Formula Error with Crystal Reports 2008 SP3 Fix Pack 3.5

    Hello,
    My name is Carlos, and I would like to report a defect found in the Crystal Reports 2008 SP 3 Fix Pack 3.5 Runtime that is affecting the majority of our reports.  As well, I would like to ask if there is a simple workaround that does not involve updating hundreds of reports.
    The issue is that the runtime engine incorrectly returns the report selection formula.  I have included sample code showing what I mean.
    To reproduce;
    1. Create a simple report that has a date range filter like:
      ({Orders.Order_Date} >= {?START_DATE})
      AND ({Orders.Order_Date} <= {?END_DATE})
    2. Create a test app as follow that loads a report using the following code:
    ReportDocument rpt = null;
    try
      rpt = new ReportDocument();
      rpt.Load("TestReport.rpt");
      this.txtMessage.Text = string.Format(
        "ReportSelectionFormula:{0}{1}",
         Environment.NewLine,
      rpt.RecordSelectionFormula);
    catch (Exception ex)
      this.txtMessage.Text = ex.ToString();
    3.  Install Crystal Reports 2008 SP3 Fix Pack 3.5 Runtime [https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100006341772011E/cr2008fp35_redist.zip]..
    4.  Execute the app.
    At this stage, the screen shows
    ReportSelectionFormula:
    (   (  NOT  {Orders.Order_Date} >= {?START_DATE}  )   AND   (  NOT  {Orders.Order_Date} <= {?END_DATE}  )   )
    The expected value is:
    ReportSelectionFormula:
    (   (  {Orders.Order_Date} >= {?START_DATE}  )   AND   (  {Orders.Order_Date} <= {?END_DATE}  )   )
    If we were to repeat the same test above but use the Crystal Reports 2003 SP3 runtime (i.e. no Fix Pack), which can be dowloaded from [https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100007123592010E/cr2008sp3_redist.zip], we would get the correct report selection formula. A side-effect for this incorrect report selection formula is a runtime exception complaining about an errorkind and a boolean being expected.
    Do you know if there is any workaround that I can apply in code, perhaps a different Fix Pack?  Is there a Fix Pack expected to be released soon?  It is not practical for us to update our reports and use a different style in the record selection formula because we have many such reports, and our customers probably have even more.
    Thank you.
    -Carlos.

    Already a known issue, here's the [KB 1584095 - A boolean NOT is added at the beginning of a record selection formula when the report is loaded by the Crystal Reports .NET SDK |http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes_boj/sdn_oss_boj_bi/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes%7B6163636573733d36393736354636443646363436353344333933393338323636393736354637333631373036453646373436353733354636453735364436323635373233443330333033303331333533383334333033393335%7D.do]

  • Select Expert - Record

    I'm trying to limit the values presented in the Select Expert - Record tab based upon it's relationship to a selected value from another field.
    We have several hospitals.  Each hospital has several floors or unit/wards usually identified as 6 East, 2 West, 4 North, etc.  Not all of the hospitals have the same named unit/wards.
    I select use select expert - table_name.Facility_Name = "Hospital A" when I select table_name.Unit_Name I only want those units/wards from the "Hospital_A" to be displayed in the list and not all of the units/wards that are listed in the table.  This way I do not have to wade through all of the unit/wards that a facility does not have.  The report is for unit/ward.
    Thanks
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
    If you are using Crystal XI or newer version then try creating a cascading prompt to get filtered with parent level field value.
    For more information check the sample report prompting.rpt that shows the cascading prompt of Country>Region>city

  • Select Expert Record. Last 6 months and week start date on Monday

    Hello,
    i am trying to use the select expert record to grab the last 6 months worth of data. I require the week start day to be a monday and end on a sunday.
    Can someone please provide some advice the best way to do this
    kind regards
    david

    Hello Abhilash,
    Once again thanks for your reply.
    Yes this is correct, when it goes back 6 months i need it to skip the days prior and begin on a monday as we are reporting on a mon-sunday basis.
    I have tried your formula Date field >= dateadd('m',-6,currentdate) and it seems to grab 6 months of data, but the group weeks are not grouping from Monday to Sunday...
    kind regards

  • Create choose from list in Report selection criteria

    Hi all,
    Is it possible to create a choose from list in UDF in a Report selection criteria ?
    My issue is i just want to create a report using crystal report. In this report contain some parameter which the parameter choose from list value is come from a UDT. If the value come from OCRD or OITM , it's so easy to make. I just make Customer @From OCRD in parameter CR, then i just preview, it will make choose from list from business partner. But how about from UDT.
    I have try to make it using Formatted search. So in SAP B1, i binded with formatted search in some parameter that i make it in CR. But there is some thing odd. if I make 2 different report with  different parameter. The formatted search with binded in the first report, will also binded in the second report. And i don't want this happen.
    How can i make it , the formatted search didn't  binded in second report parameter, because the second report is totally different. ?
    thanks in advance
    regards
    Jia shun

    Hi Jia
    Try this
    @UDT
         Code          Alpha(8)
         Name          Alphe(30)
         Fields      etc
    Define the parameter token as follows.
    Season@SELECT DISTINCT T1.Code, T1.Name FROM OADM T0 CROSS JOIN "@UDT" T1
    OADM only has one record so the join will return the right number of records.
    Hope this helps

  • "Select Distinct Records" Option Not Available

    Hello Experts.
    I am working on a new report in CR XI, and noticed that I had many duplicate records.  I went to the File; Report Options; and expected to click on "Select Distinct Records", but that choice was grayed-out.  What would have caused me to lose this option, and how do I fix it?
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Not sure if this covers it or not, but....
    The Select Distinct Records command is only available for ODBC, OLE DB, and SQL native drivers; it is not available for Stored Procedures. Note also that your server may automatically sort returned values if no sort is specified in Crystal Reports.

  • New Formulas don't show under Select Expert --Record

    Hello,
           Some how my CR 2008 don't show new formulas in my report when I go in Select Expert-Record, all the formulas show under Field Explorer?? the odd part is that old formulas still showing only new ones don't show is a setup that I'm missing????

    The old formulas most likely have the evaluation time function WhileReadingRecords or BeforeReadingRecords referenced in them.
    Try adding WhileReadingRecords to your new formulas (If CR can process those formulas at that time) and you should be able to see them in the Record Select Expert.

       Try using this logic.This Code displays the list with check boxes. When you check a checkbox and press a button say 'Select All' or 'De Select all' or 'Display'. It will read the data of those records.
