DISH Connection Bad Weather

A SUBSCRIPTION?? I live 5 miles down a dirt road in the gorgeous country. We use a dish for internet connection, which is unreliable in bad weather. What lunatic thought up a subscription to the cloud as a means of selling Adobe products? If we get bad weather we lose our connection and it is unreliable. What happens if I am working on a project and lose my connection? What if I chose NOT to pay for internet service if times get tough? More people are moving to cell phones instead of land lines, so again, that's not going to help my ability to edit photos, print and sell them. I came here today to find out what is new with Adobe for 2014, ready to buy myself a nice Christmas upgrade, but NO THANKS.

Hi Bazz02,
Thanks for the post.  Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your BT Vision service.  Have you reported this to BT?  I presume you have been told its due to the weather?
I would be happy to look into this, I know you guys in Belfast have been hit quite badly with the snow so let me see what I can do.  We have been very lucky down here in Enniskillen, we haven't had a pick of snow.

  • Quite a large speed drop since bad weather!

    Hello Forum peeps!
Since installing infinity in April weve een pretty much constatly getting 38bg speeds, 1.5mb upload, were on the 40mb/2mb (although been emailed several times to be told we should now be able to get 9mb up), hadthe early issue of hub not waking up after a long period asleep, but otherwise rock solid.
That is, up until the recent bad weather (not the snow as we got an inch tops for 6 hours!!!!) our speeds dropped right down to 1mg! i'm unable to run the full dianostic test on bt wholesale as it Wont display the results page! Keep getting Unable to display webpage message and on refresh it resorts to the start, and then after a 3 locks you out for an hour,  ive done the basic BT test which have links to sreengrab results below, and also frequent speedtet.net checks which vary from 1mg-12mg and wireless around 6mg (wreless usd to give 12-13mg on the netbook - no other way of testin as main pc died many moons ago! )
have reset both the router and hub several times alowing the router tocyce before turning the hub back on, but makes very little difference,
i havent rung india Yet, but am gettng to the stage where i ma have too!! thought i'd check with thos in the now first,
just got to the stage of fed up and annoyed now at being hardly able to watch youtube videos without buffering all the time!!!!

  • Slow connection/Bad ping while gaming.

Okay, so ive had BT total broadband for some time now and its always been good for me, ive recently placed and order for infinity and waiting on that processing.  But the past few weeks even before christmas ive been getting quite a bad connection, nothing with my set up of the homehub has changed at all, on my adsl setting it says i should get around 3.5mb/s download and almost 1mb/s upload.  Im getting nowhere near this now, i get about 350kb/s max download and when im playing online games that used to run very well i get awful pings of over 100 and it just impossible to continue gaming in that state as you would imagine, ive done a silent line test and my line is silent.  Here are my adsl settings and speedtest, any help is greatly appriciated!

     Your DSL Connection Rate :3961 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 932 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 3500 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 11.23:25.4:63.36 (SBE:NBEBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 758 Kbps
     Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 932 Kbps

your stats look ok and your profile is correct for your speed and the download at 3461 looks ok for your profile.
I would expect a better speed for an attenuation of 46.5 on adsl2

  • Wifi connection bad since upgrade to 10.4.10  FIXED!!!!!!

I HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM!!!!! Here's what I did:
    1) Download Pacifist http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12743
    2) Download airport extreme update 2007-002
    3) Download 10.4.9 combo update
    4) Go to /system/library/extensions and copy appleairport.kext and appleairport2.kext to a backup location just to be safe and then delete them from the extensions folder.
    5) Also in the extensions folder you'll find IO80211Family.kext and copy it to backup folder and then delete it.
    6) Mount airport extreme update dmg and then open Pacifist.
    7) In Pacifist click on "Open Package" and select the airport extreme update package.
    8) In Pacifist you will now see all the files that are in the package. Find system and expand it's tree by clicking on the triangle. then expand library and then extensions. You will now see the IO80211Family.kext file. Click once on it so it's highlighted and then click "Install".
    9) When it's done copying files expand coreservices and then menu extras. Highlight "Airport Menu" and click install.
    10) When it's done copying close the window in Pacifist for the airport update package.
    11) Now mount the 10.4.9 combo update dmg and click "Open Package" in Pacifist and select the 10.4.9 combo package.
    12) Again find the system folder and expand it and then expand the libray and extensions folders.
    13) In the extensions folder you'll see a bunch of files. Look for appleairport.kext and highlight it. Click "Install".
    14) when it's done copying you should see the appleairport2.kext. Highlight it and click "install".
    15) when Pacifist is done copying reboot your Macbook.
    16) Once booted try your internet and then jump up and down shouting YIPEEEEE!!! IT'S FIXED!!
I have now had a solid connection for over 30 minutes on battery as I've been typing these instructions when I couldn't stay connected for more then 1-3 minutes before applying this fix.
    Who needs Applecare support!!!!...HEHEHEHE!!!!
Hope this helps and enjoy having your internet connection back. I think I'll send Apple a bill for all my labor time fixing their bug. Boy wouldn't they just love that..LOL!!!!

Black Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

What I have done is basicly the same as uninstalling the network card driver and reinstalling an older version like you would in windows. This should not have any effect on what version my OS is. For example..if I am running Windows XP Pro with SP2 and I install a new video card driver which ends up causing video issues and I then remove the newer driver and put back the original driver I was using..have I changed my verion of windows? Will I have problems applying new hotfixs and patches from Microsoft? The answer to both is no. The only thing that was affected was the video driver..other then that I'm still running Winxp Pro with SP2.
What I have done with the Macbook is basicly the same thing except Apple calls them kernel files instead of drivers. The only kext files that I changed were stricly for the airport card. I have not replaced any main OSX kernels. And as far as any future upgrades go the couple of files I downgraded will be deleted and replaced by newer ones.
Also what I have learned in my 27 years in computer repair/networking is sometimes you have to improvise a little if you want the problem fixed. You either downgrade the driver or program or go without until a patch is released which could be 2 days from now, 2 years from now or in some cases never. All I have to say is that OSX is much more stable then windows as long as you don't have a problem like this one where a new driver was introduced into the system which is now knocking out a very critical component. In this case I would gladly take the not so stable windows machine over the OSX machine simply because windows has two things that OSX doesn't. One being the add/remove programs feature and the 2nd is the windows registry. So if you are unable to properly remove a program by uninstalling you can still remove it's entries from the registry which basicly achieves the same end result. Apple needs to build in a module to OSX that does the same thing as windows add/remove. Nobody should ever have to fresh install the OS everytime a buggy or corrupt piece of software is installed. If a program can be installed there should always be a way to uninstall it and restore the system to its previous working condition
Anyways my airport is working perfectly now and my OSX slow downs and processing delays are gone now and the Macbook is back to it's old self again.

  • Wifi connection bad since upgrade to 10.4.10

I have been using my MacBook now for a month. Since I had it connected to my network without any problem. A WDS based wifi network with 4 nodes. Since I upgraded the macbook to 10.4.10 the connection gets unreliable.
after some time I notice that Google Notifier shows an exclamation mark. The available SID's are not shown, than just the one shown as being connected to. Turning airport off and on again shows my list anymore. And trust me, there should be at least 5 available SID's in this location of use. The only way to resolve it is by restarting the system. Even once, the system crashed when turning the airport off.
Does anyone have the same problems???
My VAIO SZ2 does connect properly to the wireless network, just like phone and pda (E60 and 770). The network uses is a WPA personal with a preshared key. Based on linksys routers with DD-WRT and OpenWRT.

    Me too.

  • Video out connection bad on MOBO

My video went out when I opened my G4 Titanium display one day. Odd smell and no video. I found the ribbon cable was damaged near the plug on MOBO. One wire was stripped and probably contacted the metal inside. I assume there was damage to the video out somewhere on the MOBO. External display is fine. Short of buying a new cable to test the internal output to diplay is there any way to test this?

Hi, Macnag. For clarity's sake, can we agree that "video out" means the port on the back of your Powerbook to which you connect an external monitor? You say "External display is fine," so I assume there's nothing wrong with your video out. For the same reason, I conclude that there's nothing wrong with the video components on your logic board, and that's good news. You know you need a new LVDS video cable (which feeds the built-in display), because the one you have is damaged. What you may not know is how difficult it is to replace that cable, one end of which is sealed inside the glued-together display assembly. For one man's techniques for opening the display assembly to get at the stuff inside it, see http://mywebpages.comcast.net/macdan/tibook_display.html.

  • Qosmio G30 - external screen via HDMI connection - bad resolution

Hi! This problem is driving me crazy, please help if you can...
I have just bought a G30-102 and I'm trying to use it with an external screen via the HDMI connection. The problem I'm having is that the native resolution of 1920x1200 cuts off the edges of the desktop and the quality looks terrible - its almost like the whole screen is zoomed in. I tried this with a BenQ FP241wz at first (which is 1080i 1920x1200) and the Toshiba helpline couldn't find a solution either - even after painfully reinstalling all of the drivers etc.
Its been going on for so long, I thought that I would try it out with my HDTV instead, just to be sure it wasn't a monitor issue. So I tried it with my Toshiba 32WLT66 - and have just found that it has exactly the same problem.
All of the display settings appear to be correct and the G30 is convinced that the output is correct, so the question I have now is - do you think that its a problem with my HDMI port?
Please help, I'm a designer and it is essential that I use the machine on a large screen. If this is a problem with the G30 hardware I need to talk to Toshiba immediately about replacing or fixing it.

Hi - thanks for the reply!
My BIOS doesn't allow me to choose much for the display - just between PAL and NTSC really.`As for the document, thanks for the link - unfortunately though there wasn't anything in it that I haven't already tried.
What would be the most obvious thing that could be wrong? Faulty port? Faulty card? Or could it even be as simple as a faulty HDMI lead?

  • WiFi good... Connection bad?

I recently moved and got Comcast as my wireless provider. Since than I have had horrible connectivity(speed?) on my iPhone(original). I show almost full bars on my signal and the wireless connection for my desktop and laptop are quite good. I am unable to connect to iTunes through my phone or download apps etc. because it is so slow. When I am at a friends house who also has comcast I have the same issue. Could it be the provider? Any thoughts? Thanks for reading and contemplating!

If you're getting good connections to other devices, it's hard to blame it on the Comcast modem or service - all connections would be slow. Try rebooting the router, deleting and reestablishing the the connection in your iPhone.

  • Adobe Connect - bad customer support

I have purchased a connect account and used it a lot.
My credit card is running out, but when I try to select
    "Administration/Serviceplan" ... i get an
    empty page.
The website returns a page with "Macromedia - Breeze Service
    Plan - Error" in it.
I keep getting email reminders of the run-out of my credit
card. But the website pointed to in
    the email is :
    http://www.adobe.com/support/email/cscontact/
and that page does no longer exist!
I don't think Adobe likes us European customers, since you
can't find anywhere in the Breeze
product, where you can contact the sales ... you cant find
    anywhere in the "support" helping
    out.
So basically .. .I can no longer be a customer. My money
might not be good enough for Adobe.
    Anyone able to help here???????

  • Airport connection bad with screen open!? eh?

since almost a week now my powerbook 17" has been playing up - seems that wifi connection which previously was brilliant in my apartment - is now only 3-4 bars when the screen is at a 20-30degree open angle - i.e. barely readable!!!
anything remotely normal and the signal drops to 1 bar or drops out
and it's taking ages to connect to the base station too now
    any ideas???
    thanks
    Jason

turns out it was the placement of the new airport extreme base station.
was ok for a while then went down hill - have moved it to a new location and it's fine - must be some interference somewhere but moving to new house soon anyway so not going to spend time to find out where it might be!
    Cheers

you still have a 3.7mb connection but your problem is your profile is low at 500 instead of the correct figure of 3000.  this is causing a slow download speed.
it was probably cause by a few resets in a short space of time and the exchange dropped your speed with your profile dropping accordingly.  your speed is back to normal but you need to stay connected 24/7 no resets for 3/5 days and your profile will come back to normal

I need my line repair. Called twice or more times and they have come but still have problem. Every time it rains the connection goes in and out mostly out and does not restore until after it has stop raining for a while. It is really annoying to my whole family. Please send someone to give us a new line. Really tired of dealing with the issue. Thanks.
    Frustrated customer.

  • Why did iOS 7.x update affect iPad2 WiFi connection badly?

After updating to iOS 7.x my iPad 2 has very weak WiFi connection. It only works at home from about 1 meter distance. Other devices find the connection without problems. In other places (office, areas with public free WiFi networks) iPad does not find the WiFi network at all. Seems this problem is only with iPad2, newer  Apple HW does not seem to have the same problem.
I have tried all fix ideas I've managed to find, even resetting back to factory settings. I have also installed all available updates to the operating system. Nothing works. Any idea what has been changed in the iOS sw that affects the WiFi this way? Any fix expected from Apple?

After updating to IOS 7.1.1, the Wi-Fi on my iPad 2 behaved normally.

  • Phone line and BB connection keeps dropping - BT H...

My broadband and phone connection keeps dropping.  Its been fine for years and now since all this bad weather we have been having the connection lasts temporarily for a few minutes sometimes more and then all the blue lights start flashing orange, sometimes for a while, and then back to blue.  Could it be that there is a wider problem in the area I am living in my area.  I have tried to report this to BT via the Indian call centre but the best they can offer me is an engineer visit on 20 January (!!) and I may have to pay £130 if the fault is found on my property so I would like to know first if there is a wider probelm affecting others in my area.  Many thanks.
