Documenting Jobs

We are using Data Services XI, Data Integrator Xi 3.0 Prefessional, to move and transform data from Oracle Financials to our data warehouse.
We had engaged a consulting firm to write the jobs based on our business requirements and the jobs work as expected, however we would like to document the what and how of the jobs.
Is there a 3rd part tool that would document these jobs?
Regards

No, it is built in. Open the Management Console -> AutoDoc and click the print button. This lets you export the entire job with all its workflows etc into a pdf file or a word document.

  • JSM - Creating Job Documentation from Job Request itself

    Hi all,
I am still exploring JSM, and I know its possible to create Job Request (Job Req) from Job Documentation (Job Doc).
But is it possible to create the reverse (Job Doc from Job Req) ?
This will be great, if the user is creating Job Req from "Detailed" version (compared to "Basic"), which has similar entries and tabs, as Job Doc.
I did read somewhere that its possible, but I never find any documentation or SCN/blogs on this.
    Thanks in advance

How to configure SAP's standard Job Request form - Part 2
    Hi Shahul,
the user triggers the Job Doc creation from within the Incident or Change Request in the JSM assignment block, but then the data from teh Job Request is automatically taken over for the Job Document.
So starting the creation and pushing the save button is manual work, but the filling out the Job Doc is done automatically.
    Kind Regards

  • Job Schedule Management

    Hi,
We recently upgraded our Sol Man system to EHP1 and we are in the process of Job Shedule Management. We imported few jobs from managed system and while monitoring ,getting error Business Proccess not created.
Could any one please tell me one thing, shall we need to setup Business Process Monitoring prior to setup Job Schedule Management? Please explain high level end to end Job Schedule Management steps.
    Thanks & Regards
    Srinivas.

    Hi Srinivas,
please have a llok under https://service.sap.com/jsm to find further links to important SAP notes that explain a lot. You can also find iTutors about JSM under https://service.sap.com/rkt-solman.
Generally speaking BPMon is NO prerequisite for JSM. But as you probably saw during the import you have to assign your documented job either to a logical component (esp. meaningful for system related jobs like housekeeoing spool or dumps) or you assign to  a business process step. An assignment to a logical component is a minimum requirement!
For a business process step assignment you need to maintain processes either in the project part or in the solution directory of SAP Solution Manager.
An active BPMon is only needed if you want to monitor background jobs and want to make use of the integration between JSM and BPMon.
You should also look for Blog and Forum entries of Martin Lauer in order to get further JSM insights.
By the way: If you  should encounter some functional problems you can open an OSS message on SV-SMG-PSM.
    Best Regards

  • How to paste tabbed data directly into FM7 table cells?

    <<<<on edit.... changed FM8 to FM7... I have FM7, not FM8>>>
    Hello
I'm working on a documentation job that requires a pasting external data into existing table cells in FM7.
I have tried several things but I can't find a way to paste the data directly into the table cells.  The source data can be delimited text, or spreadsheet cells. Neither can be pasted into an existing table.   The only way I can make this work is to first paste it into FM as text, then convert it to another table, and then copy/paste from that table into the existing one.  This is a lot of extra work and it seems there should be a way to paste external data directly across table cells.   I also tried "paste special" but that is not an option when I have table cells selected.
    Any ideas???
    It would be much appreciated!
    Thanks
    Gary Beckwith

Gary, just had a thought -- I've worked on several projects where I used variables in tables that might work better for you.
Basically the idea is to pre-populate the tables in your chapter with variables in the cells, and then import a minimalist MIF file that only contains the variable definitions for the pre-existing variables.  The minimalist MIF file can be made quite easily from a database or from an Excel CSV or TSV export by using various scripting utilities to convert comma-delimited text into the MIF syntax.
I've created chapters that had hundreds of thousands of cells with variables in them, and updating the variables is incredibly quick.
The best way to approach the variable naming is to come up with a convention that is easy to apply, I found .r1c1 etc to be a good starting point (the period so that the variables all sort in the same place in FM, the lower-case letters to make the variable's name as horizontally short as possible.

    Hi all,

  • Documentation for tab.user_data with event based jobs

    Hi,
Are all the atributes for tab.user_data when used as part of an event based job documented somewhere?
I have been looking but all I can find are examples rather than explicit documentation.
    Thanks
    Pete

    Hi Pete,
The type of the object tab.user_data is the type used to create the AQ queue with. So it varies depending on the type you used to create the queue with.
If you are consuming messages from the scheduler event queue, the type is sys.scheduler$_event_info and to figure out what fields it has you can use
    desc sys.scheduler$_event_info
    Hope this helps,
    Ravi.

  • SAP BPM Job Documentation - Mass Import

    Hello,
A few questions regarding the feature of job documentation in Solution Manager Job Management.
When doing a mass import of the jobs by RFC we had the following issues:
1 - The import process takes a lot of time, there are thousands of queries to DMDattribute table. I'm only importing 190 jobs that took around 15-30 minutes. Do you know any note or configuration to fix this?
2 - Because import took a lot of time, the first time we had a timeout of 600s in ICM, and the import process was interrupted. How can we massively delete the jobs documentation? I know that the standard procedure is not to delete, but to change the jobs status to 'DELETED', but still if I could really deleted them and redo the import from scratch would be a lot better. If mass delete is not possible, is there a way of doing a mass update of the job status, from "IN PROCESSING" to "DELETED"?
Thanks in advance and hope to hear from you soon,
    Daniel Garrido

  • Looking for documentation of Access Control Batch Jobs-all four components

    Hi,
We are implementing all (4) components of Access Control. We are at a point in our project, where we are documenting, inventorying and testing all of or Batch Jobs. I'm trying to find One Single, or Four individual documents that provide direction, sequencing, etc..... I've found vague bits and pieces, but am hoping the is some detailed documents out there, that someone can direct me to.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Smith,
Check "Operations Guide - SAP GRC Access Control 5.3" at Service Marketplace-->Installations and upgrade->Access Control 5.3 It contains the list of jobs.
For firfighter, there are background jobs in Config Guide.

  • CPS Job documentation

    Hi,
In solution manager work center, after the change document is created  the job documentation is to be generated. One of the steps to create job documentation is assigning the logical component. I'm facing an issue with this step. The logical components aren't getting displayed thus the job documentation is not getting created. What could be the possible solution to this?
    Regards,
    Esha

    Hello Esha,
if I understood your issue correctly your creating the Job Documentation from the Job Chaneg Document, so you are using the ChaRM integration?
In that case you'll have to check IBase assigned to the Job and Change Request. The IBase has to point to a production system.
The program also filters for logical components, which have the (logical) System, i.e. combination of System ID and Client, the IBase is pointing to, assigned in the role production.
So you need an logical component which includes the selected system in role production.
BTW: Please use the Solution Manager forum for JSM related questions and visit our new FAQ http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/SM/FAQJobScheduling+Management

  • Change Job Documentation - variant field viewable?

    Hi.
I'm wondering if it's possible to change the Step Overview section of the Change Job Documentation screen to also show the Variant associated with a Command/Report.  Would be convenient to have those 2 fields side by side, otherwise a bit of an annoyance to have to click on each step to see the program/variant pairing.
    thanks!
    Bernie

Run your program in online mode in production.
On the selection screen, put all the values you want to store as variant.
    Now press the Save button.
You will be directed to Variant creation screen.
    Give your variant name.
Save it.. it will ask for "overwritten".. say yes.

  • Creating job documentation from Job request

    Hello Esha,
depends. If you run EhP1 of SAP Solution Manager you can use transaction SLFJ instead of SLFN (prerequisite: multi-transaction type handling is setup). SLFJ comes with the correct action profile already assigned.
If you use SLFN or a custom copy of SLFN, please assign the Job Management action profile. See implementation guide (transaction SPRO) for more information in section "Integration with Service Desk".
I recommend to view the following tutorial:

  • Job Management - Request to Documentation

    Hi there
I am on 7.1 SP10 and are wondering if someone has a way of converting a request into a document from the workcenter?
The way it works now is through the ITSM / web ui and it is not really beneficial for customers that work in the workcenter, to open and handle it in the web ui, since it is the only thing that happens is the conversion from a request to a document.
Hope that someone has input on this.
    Nicolai

    hi,
basically job request is the crm service doc, job document is the normal doc stored in solman kw.
best practise that always use job document and job request in an integrated way, as you mentioned done via ITSM refer here
Processing Job Requests with IT Service Management - SAP Solution Manager - SAP Library
this can also posible via action profiles,
otherway you can import jobs directly to the job documents as here
or refer FAQ Job Scheduling Management - Solution Manager - SCN Wiki question 3 from top.
all the posiblities via itsm explored, are you looking this kind of integration or could you provide more details ( kind of visualisation ) on your requirement.
    Thanks
    Jansi
