Droid 3 Replacement Circus

Short Story: I had a Droid 3 that was doing the "random restart" thing and I'm now on my 4th (soon to be 5th) Droid 3.
Long Story: Here's a link to a long story about my experience so far trying to get a good replacement for my faulty Droid 3. Anybody have any advice as to how to get better results from the customer service reps? http://verizonexperience.weebly.com/

Finally, more people are having the same issue. Verizon Wireless (and other companies) are buying defective products from Motorola. It's like Motorola doesn't have any quality control.
Last August (2011) my contract was up with Verizon so I got a new phone when I resigned; I got an LJ Octane. When the Verizon Wireless employees used "Back Up Assistant" to get the contacts from my old flip phone it something happened to the LJ Octane (I didn't realize that was the issue at the beginning). A lot of software issues were happening with the phone. They gave me another LJ Octane and the same things where happening. I reported Verizon to the BBB.
After dealing with corporate they gave me a Droid 3 for free. I didn't really want a "smart" phone but I wanted a full qwerty keyboard, that's why I got the LG Octane in the first time. So, I get my Droid 3 in the mail and activate it and used "Back Up Assistant" like the instructions stated. The more I played with the Droid 3 the more odd software stuff was happening (turning off and on when I was using it).
So I got yet another Droid sent to me. Verizon customer service is a joke. I've been told so many time "I will call you back" and that NEVER happens. I know from the people in the Verizon stores all the way to people in corporate I've spent HOURS if not days dealing with this. Because even though they say they document things in your file, you still have to reexplain the situation to every new person you talk to.
So then after my 2nd Droid, I didn't load "Back Up Assistant" in my phone and put the numbers in manually and I even went to a Verizon store to take one of their Droid workshops. Disappointingly, I knew more than the guy working there about the phone, and I had it for less than 2 weeks. Also with this 2nd Droid the "on/off" button was pushed into the phone where it was hard to make it do anything (it came like that). The guy that was running the work shop called customer service (which I still don't get why employees IN the store know less than the strangers on the phone) about getting me a yet another Droid. The woman on the phone said she was going to have to make me pay for it until they get the other one back. I didn't have to do that last time and they have gotten all the phones back. Plus this woman had the nerve to tell me I need to contact Motorola. Seriously? I bought the phone under the umbrella of Verizon, they need to back up their products and hold the companies they get their products from accountable. So, this guy who ran the workshop got an override by his boss and sent me out another Droid.
Well I did some troubleshooting with a tech guy I know in CA and we figured that "Back Up Assistant" saved a corrupted file (contact number) and that was messing with the software of the phone, because that's the ONLY thing all 3 phones had in common.
This 3rd Droid I've had the longest, like 4 months and it's still touchy. What's annoying me now is that the camera isn't working as well. That's pretty much the only thing I use my phone for (tweeting and texting). I don't want to get yet another replacement because I'm tired of wasting my time loading all the contacts, apps, calendar stuff back into my phone. This company doesn't care about their jobs because we keep buying their crap. They have given me 3 different Droids for free. I don't understand why anyone would pay hundreds for crappy phones like this.
So if you are counting, that's 2 LG Octanes and 3 Droids; happening in a 2 months span. I had opened a 2nd complaint against Verizon with the BBB but they just wasted my time for the last 4 months and I have to start over again. I contacted my Attorney General's customer complain department because Verizon Wireless will be held accountable for this.

  • Droid Replaced 3 times

I am on my 3rd Droid & I'm having the same issues that I've had with my previous Droids.  I was assured that when they sent me this replacement if I had any problems with it they would replace it with a different cell.  I just got off the phone with Verizon & was told that they would only send me the exact same Droid as a replacement unless I wanted to purchase a Pre-owned phone at a discounted price.  I'm so frustrated right now - I just need a phone that will work all the time.
The problems that I'm having are:
    Phone freezes up
    Won't hold a charge
Sends text messages to the wrong people
Touch screen stops working when I'm texting
Any ideas what I can do?  I've already done the hard reset a few times & taken the battery off several times, deleted apps, etc.

Don't give up, it just takes a while to get someone to listen to you. Yesterday morning I unpacked my fourth replacement DROID from the FedEx shipping box and on the very first phone call it malfunctioned. Of course it was a refurbished unit.
I called my local Verizon store and while they've always been wonderful, the only thing they could do was offer to send a fifth refurbished handset to me. I called Verizon to discuss other options since I was not confident that another of the same thing would really fix anything.
Here's what I think is the key: Don't let your call be transferred to technical support! As best you can, stay on the line with Customer Service. In my experiences--
Customer Service Representative staff: caring, attentive, polite. Solution oriented
Technical Service staff: argumentative, dismissive. Blame oriented.
My phone call yesterday to John in technical support was a nightmare. He scolded me for being ungrateful that I got a $700 retail phone for $99 when I began my contract. He lectured me using ridiculous analogies like purchasing a new car and such. He insulted me by pointedly refusing to acknowledge that there may, in fact, be a problem with the equipment; suggesting instead  I didn't understand how to use it or was intentionally causing the issue. He talked  over me, explaining in detail the steps involved in Verizon's quality control process and how they only send out "like-new" equipment, even after I said I didn't care to hear about all that. He ignored for 25 minutes my repeated requests to speak to a supervisor. He actually stated  it didn't matter that I'd carried Verizon service uninterrupted since 1998 replying "Well I've worked for Verizon for a number of years." and then telling me it was "not any business of yours" when I asked him how long he has worked for Verizon. After 45 minutes of listening to this jerk and not losing my temper I finally cracked and used a single bad word, my actual sentence was: "You just cut me off [again, while I was talking]. You don't have to care but you do need to be ******* polite." At that point the he hung up on me, I shouldn't have cursed and I don't blame him for ending the call. I do blame him, however, for the 45 minutes of useless garbage he gave me before that point.
I was more stunned than angry and called back immediately while I felt I could still be level-headed. I spoke to Tanya in Customer Service and in less than five minutes she suggested an option that, while it wasn't exactly what I was hoping for, was fair. And more than that, she listened and understood that I was simply frustrated to have four phones not work as expected.
This isn't the first time I've called Verizon in the twelve years I've been a customer but I only realized yesterday that I'm consistently disappointed when I deal with Technical Support and generally pleased after dealing with Customer Service.
I'm going to stay a Verizon customer, I'm still glad to have them as my brand and I don't think changing carriers will mean I'll never have to deal with lousy employees again. Keep trying and if you feel the person you're talking to isn't listening ask to speak to someone who will listen. A contract works two ways not just one and if you've done what you're supposed to do, it's not unreasonable to expect the same of the other party. Good luck, maybe on your next call instead of a "John in technical service" you'll get to talk to a "Tanya in customer service."

  • Re: Customer support

If there is something you can do, do it quick and get away from Verizon! My husband and I are going through an awful experience with his Droid replacement and they aren't doing anything for us after 3 years of service. We pay over $150 a month for our 2 lines, plus the cost of both of our Droids and have been treated like crap the past 24 hours by not only the Customer Service team over the phone, but at our local store too. And all we're trying to do is replace the visibly damaged refurb he received YESTERDAY.
My husband is so fed up that he tried to cancel our service, however they want to charge us hundreds of dollars per line to get out of our contract. So for now, we may be trapped.
I hope you have better luck than we've had!

  • HT4528 Lost Phone

How do you remove iMessaging from a lost or stolen phone.... I have a friend that lost her phone and got a Droid, replacement... When I send messages now to her new phone same number shows as iMessage but waits and times out and says sent as text message....

In the US go to store.apple.com and shop for the phone type, carrier, storage etc. that you want. The price will be listed.
Or try Apple.com and click on the store tab.

  • Data charge for phone updates

I recently bought two 9300s from BestBuy.  I'm getting data charges that the rep at Koodo says are related to the phone updating itself.  I don't have a data plan (only used for messaging and as a phone) so these charges stand out.  Some of the charges are at 5AM or at other times when I know the phones are not being used. All data charges are identified simply as RIM.   I have a couple of questions:
Re: the charges in the middle of the night.  I'm at home - the phone is connected to WiFi.  Why would I incur data charges.
Is there a way to tell the phone not to update that will not affect messaging (text & picture) or the phone?  Because I'm not using any higher end abilities of the phone I don't really care if it updates.
Is there a way to tell the phone to only update using WiFi?  Since some of these charges are from when the phone is connected to WiFi I'm not sure how effective this might be.
Any help would be appreciated.  After a month's worth of the BlackBerry/Koodo experience and am somewhat disenchanted.
    Thanks

I recently had my Motorola 4G Droid replaced after it was damaged. After activating the new phone, I received a message about a software update that said, "Your RAZR has been updated with Android 4.0 software". After the update I lost all my emails and contacts that had just been synced to my new phone the day before. I am not a techy by any stretch of the imagination, and have had at least five Verizon Wireless devices over the years, and want to know why the software cannot be update before the device is activated? I had to go to a Verizon Wireless franchise/dealer (Millennium Communications, 1660 Bethlehem Pike, Flourtown, Pa. 19031) where Bob was of great assistance in getting my emails and contacts restored. It took Bob 45 minutes to do this and he is very conversant with all the Verizon Wireless devices and services. It would have taken incalculably longer for me to to resolve the issue. During the time Bob was assisting me as a "good neighbor" he was unable to make sales during that period and I was unable to fulfill multiple business contacts I had scheduled for that day.
This entire charade seems so unnecessary: Why have a practice that updates software after a device has been activated, only to have all recently transferred emails and contacts erased? This is the antithesis of good customer PR/Service/Customer Support in my opinion. Shame on Verizon Wireless for putting me and Bob through this.

  • Who is suppose to Fix the Poor Streaming Audio quality?

    Just a quick question
Who is suppose to fix the bad sounding streaming audio quality?
This this something Google / Verizon / Motorola will fix or is this left for the developers to fix?
I can not stand telling my phone not to update but I cant said the poor audio quality more!!!!
    Someone fix this please

I installed 2.2 on the 1st Droid replacement they gave me- no apps, wallpapers, etc were installed since the phone was updated to 2.2 straight out of the box. The battery level was almost full before install. Upon installing 2.2, the battery could not hold a charge within 10 minutes. On the 2nd Droid replacement, I took the same battery that had indicated a 5% battery level and put it into the new replacement (which was on 2.1), and it immediately read as 70%.
I agree that some apps may cause a conflict, however in my case Froyo was clearly the culprit....so to assume that all these problems are self-inflicted is **bleep**.

Its amazing how so many of the same phones get the same update and each phone takes the update differently causing different problems for each phone.
Exactly, and since the phones are physically identical, that tells me all these problems being reported are self-inflicted - ie; almost surely a result of an installed app, and not the phone itself.  That's the only variable, right?

  • I called Verizon today about my Droid Phone which, AGAIN, is NOT working. I've had it replaced once already.  I've been with Verizon for 9 yrs.  So my plan is due to renew Feb 20th, my phone is NOT working, do u think they would go ahead and HELP me? Phis

So, I called today to see if I could upgrade, as my contract for 2 yrs is up on Feb 20th.  I've replaced the Droid once already.  It was broken, just not by me. Now the thing won't even work, at all.  I need this phone as I work for a major company and we use these devices at night to contact one another.
Anyway's, Rep 1 transferred me to Rep 2 saying "Rep 2 has more authority than I".  Rep 2 immediately began finger pointing.  Basically, said Rep 1 didn't feel like dealing with my situation.  So, he was angry, talking fast, and would not "HEAR" what I needed to say.  He offered me a few idea's but in the end said he would not / could not help me, although my phone is NOT working, AGAIN.
I told him I would probably be going to another provider, he then began to berate all other provider's.  Gosh I hate when CSR's do that !
So,looks like I'm outta here, and this saddens me.  I KNOW he could've helped me, he chose NOT too.
9 years I have been Faithful to this Company.  This is the thanks I get? Man, this is so Wrong, on so many levels.
I am sure of one thing:  Another provider would be happy to have me as a customer.

Your experience sounds terrible, mrpontiac225! I regret our failure to leave with any impression that you are anything but valued. We don't want you leaving us under any circumstance. What is the problem with your device? Is it a Droid Charge? What are the symptoms?

  • Just bought an IPhone4S at Verizon replacing the Droid phone I previously had.  When I go to hook up to ITunes to get all the apps from my iPhone 4 (an AT

My contract at Verizon was up so I decided to renew and replace my Droid with an IPhone 4S.  I had them transfer the contact information at the Verizon store from my currently active IPhone 4 (an AT&T account) to the new IPHone 4S - this they did and its fine.
Now I want to duplicate whats on my iPhone 4 to the new IPhone S - so I went to ITunes and backed up my Iphone 4.  When that was done I hooked up my new IPHone 4S to ITunes in order to restore the apps, photoos and all to the new IPhone 4S.
However ITUnes said the phone will not pair with iTunes??
    Whta must I do ?

  • Facebook won't download on droid eris replacement phone

I just received a replacement phone yesterday for my Droid Eris.  As I was getting things set-up, I tried to install/update the Facebook app.  It goes through the whole process and then says Installation Unsuccessful.  So when I click on that, it says Insufficient Storage Available.  But, 1. it's a new phone and 2. when I check the storage on the phone, I have more than enough.  Therefore, whenever I try to log-in on the widget, it won't let me and pops up saying An Error Had Occurred During the Sign-In.  Please Try Again Later.  I know my log id and password are correct because I can log-in through the browser.  Any suggestions or help??????
    Thanks!!

I understand how important it is to stay connected with friends and family, and Facebook makes it that much easier. I'm here to help.
One thing you can try is clearing out the cache memory on the device for the Facebook app. Go to setting > Applications > Manage Applications > look for the Facebook app and select the clear cache option.
If clearing the cache doesn't help then try removing the Facebook app and re-downloading it.
Hope these suggestions help. If you need further assistance please post back and I'll be more than happy to further assist.

  • Broken DROID and no replacement: So disappointed... anyone have guidance

    Here is what's happened:
    1) Droid stopped working
    2) Customer support was great and sent refurbished replacement
    3) Replacement regular mic not workin (only speakerphone).  Tried factory reset and still broken.
    4) Calls to customer support now say there are no replacement droids but we can get phones that are NOT as good as the droid (LG ally as an example).  Screens are smaller, features different, quality worse and in ALL cases these phones would have cost me a LOT less to buy originally.
So, I'm suck with a phone that doesn't work right.  I've offered to pay extra and get the Droid X but of course, they say no because I'm not at the end of my contract.  I'm so disappointed and lost on what to do here.  I have a 2 year contract because I bought a DROID.  Now I'm stuck in a contract and they want to give me other than a droid. I'm sure fine print protects Verizon, but this sure feels like breach of contract... and just not moral or fair.  Any help?
    Michael

If your phone is still under warrantee, I suspect that you can cancel your contract ( without penality ) if they can not provide you with an equivalant replacement.  Of course they have a lot of lawyers and may fight you on this.  ( I am sure this is covered in their fine print some where )  I think a complaint with BBB is a good option if Verizon refuses to help...  I would personally not accept an inferior phone....
However, on a realistic note, you can probably find a workign Droid somewhere on Ebay, Crigs list, ect... for a reasonalbe price if you just want to get a working phone and put the issue behind you....
It is sad, but Verizon does seem to not care about you as a customer once you sign the two year contract......  My experiance with their customer service has been horrable....

  • Getting my Droid X2 replaced for the third time...

Don't really have any questions that need answering, just feel like getting peoples' input on my issue.
I am primarily a business user. While I won't deny that I use my phone for Facebook and Instagram when I'm sitting bored in a meeting, more than 80% of the time I spend on my phone is work-related. With that in mind, the most important features for me in a device are (in no particular order):
    Battery life
    Performance (speed, responsiveness, etc.)
Reliability (low frequency in terms of crashing, force closes, hangs, forced reboots, etc.)
Compatibility with corporate email and calendar
To date, the Droid X2 has met (and when it comes to battery life, exceeded) all of my expectations in those areas except one: reliability.  My phone encountered issues this week that interfered with my ability to conduct business, and I was forced to contact Verizon Support.  The rep, Brandon, was extremely helpful and I get the feeling that he did all that was in his power to help me out. He suggested that he might be able to get me a different device in the same tier, since I have had the X2 replaced so many times. Unfortunately Brandon's supervisor did not approve the order, and I didn't have time to attempt to speak with his superior.
I understand that giving a different device as a replacement is not covered by warranty or company policy (or if it is, someone please let me know ), but it should be obvious that the Droid X2 is an unreliable device. I am not a vanilla user - I have been involved in Android development since the HTC Dream (G1) - but I have left my Droid X2 bone stock since it worked well enough. I know all of the troubleshooting options available and try them all each time before calling support. It is my honest and sincere opinion that each and every Droid X2 that I've had has been faulty.
With that in mind, do you think Verizon ought to switch me out for a different model?  I honestly don't care about having the hottest new smartphone, I just want something that meets my needs and isn't a downgrade. Not trying to start a firestorm here, nor am I trying to rant and rave towards VZW - just interested in discussing the topic.

    Good day Jon;
I've had my Droid X2 since June of 2010. I am currently on #3 due to lockups, freezing, overheats and virtually all the issues you can find in this forum. I at first assumed it was something I was doing or loading. Having been in talks with Verizon, Google and Motorola. Each handset had been reset to factory numerous times. Would work for a week or so then start the same issues.
I must say that Verizon and Google have been the best in working with this, Motorola has been absolutely useless in resolving known issues with their product. All my handsets were factory and the only apps from Verizon or Google. And the Droid X2 has had issues.
I have learned to trust Verizon and Google on this, but will never own another Motorola product. My last response from this company was to send in the only phone I own for their evaluation, and maybe in 10 days they would decide if there was a warranty issue. This even after Verizon replaced it previously.
I like the Android platform and looking forward to upgrading shortly to the Samsung line. I have other products of theirs and had very good luck. When issues have arisen they have been helpful and positive.
Thank you for the opportunity to let you and others know that many of us are here and to understand others have had the same issues.

  • Replacement droid issue....

I got a droid 1 replacement phone from asurion 9/27. Problem: No SD card! They are on "backorder". I was assured that I would get a SD card mailed to me within 10 days. Its been about 3 weeks and nothing. My phone was lost( I had thought stolen). It was returned to me today. Another problem: Got old phone back, can't transfer SD card to active phone without losing all data on SD card. So now I have a activated phone, No SD card. And my old perfectly fine droid with SD card and all pictures and music. Hmmm.... What to do.

    Hey Now.
Been there done this. Although my phone was not returned. It was in fact stole.
Anyhoots, asurion isn't interested in you sending back the replacement phone?
I would assume they would be ok with this..considering your first device was in fact returned to you and not stolen.
I would send back replacement (contact asurion first) and activate your old device, by contacting Verizon on a land line or another cell other than yours.
    Good Luck.
