Droid X 4.5.596 upgrade

Today I checked for upgrades on my device and it said one was avialble. I downloaded and installed and the device is effectively useless.
Am I the only one with this issue?
What should I do? Call, go in store, get a new device?

Ann154 brought up a great resource for the master reset. Thank you!
Here are the steps to the alternative factory data reset:
Press and hold the Power button then select Power off>Once the phone is off, press and hold the Home key then press power
button to turn on>Continue to press the Power button while holding Home>From the Android Recovery screen, select wipe
data/factory reset (using the volume up/down), then press the power button>Confirm YES--delete all user data using volume
up/down, then pressing power to select>Reset will take 1-3 minutes, after select Reboot System Now to turn phone back on.

what can I use my Droid Charge for, after I upgrade to the new Samsung Galaxy S2 for Verizon on September 8?
I guess it can run fine on Wi-Fi and become a media player.... or is there a market for 1-month-old Droid Charge phones?
How much trade-in value can I get from VZW or BestBuy or Amazon?
    Thanks!

  • Mini Droid closes contacts periodically after upgrading to new OS,  Just got the phone and its the only problem

This only started when I did the upgrade to the new OS.  I have disconnected Google Sync contacts, thinking that was the case, but it still does it periodically
    Any help would be appreciated.

        Hello parejf63!
I'd love to get to the bottom of this! First, let me clarify this for you. When you say that your device closes contacts, do you mean that when you are looking at one of your contacts, the device closes the page and takes you back to the home screen? Please elaborate for me and provide me with some additional data.
    Thanks,

  • WHY VERIZON TOOK AWAY A SECOND UPGRADE TO REPLACE A  BRAND NEW PHONE THAT WAS DEFECTIVE

I have had a cellular account for many years with Verizon. I currently have three (3) lines on my account. (removed), which is my phone, (removed), which is my husband’s phone, and (removed) which is my son’s phone.
I upgraded my phone to the Ipone 4 in 2012 under my son’s line (5841), so this line should be eligible for another upgrade this year.
In April 2014 I upgraded my husband’s phone under my line (9835). We originally upgraded to the Moto X, and I was charged the $35.00 upgrade fee. Unfortunately the Moto X had multiple issues and your tech support could not figure out how to fix the bugs so they replaced the first Moto X with a second one, that still had issues, so we were sent a third one, but Tech Support couldn’t get the phone activated. Since we went through three (3) Moto X’s and your Tech support admitted this phone is known for certain issues, a supervisor overrode the 14 day return rule and allowed us to choose a different phone for the upgrade. My husband wanted to go back to the Droid Maxx, which is what he originally had and loved. I had to pay $99.00 for this phone. The supervisor had to get my permission to extend my contract under this line (9835) an additional two (2) months since we were switching the original upgraded phone to a different one and I of course agreed, whats another two (2) months. I was not charged $35.00 a second time.
When I went on line to see when the (5253) line would be eligible for upgrade so I can upgrade my Iphone that is now two (2) years old and starting to have serious issues, I saw that this line is not eligible until August 2016, which means your company is claiming we already did an upgrade for 2014 which WE DID NOT.
On August 25, 2014 my husband called tech support about the Droid Maxx as it was having DATA issues, it would not send or receive pictures and kept saying Data Error. Tech Support did a hard reset, which did not fix the problem. It also stopped taking pictures and a few other problems with it so Tech Support sent us a new Droid Maxx under the manufacturer’s warranty since the phone is under one (1) year old. But Apparently whoever put in the order put it in as a upgrade happening on August 25, 2014. When I called to get this straightened out, I was advised that on May 20, 2014 we upgraded to the Droid Maxx so this line is not eligible for upgrade until May 2016. I tried to explain this was NOT an upgrade it was an override of the 14 day return rule to allow us to change the upgraded phone to the Droid Maxx since the original upgrade phone the Moto X had multiple issues that could not be fixed by your company. I am now being told that I autherized a second upgrade under the 5253 line for the Droid Maxx which is NOT TRUE. I would never have authorized an upgrade for a second line to replace a BRAND NEW PHONE that was an upgrade on the 9835 line. That makes no sense whatsoever. It was not our fault that the Moto X is a phone that has issues that is no fault of ours, so why should I be punished and have an upgrade taken away from me in order to replace a Brand New Phone that didn’t work?
I talked to customer service two days ago and promised a call back to resolve this in 24-48 hours, but I never got a call back.
I have been a loyal customer of Verizon since I have been out on my own. I had Verizon landline for many many years and went to Verizon Wireless when they became available. I have talked many many friends into switching to Verizon because their customer service has always been top notch and I always felt like this company cared about its customers. But to have this happen just has me speechless.
As I explained above, my phone needs replacing very soon as it is two (2) years old. I can’t get voice messages that are clear, it drops calls, even with full bars, it doesn’t ring half the time when someone calls me. I have been told on numerous occasions that someone has tried to call me but it went straight to voice mail, but my phone is always on, it showed no miss calls, nor did it ever ring so the calls aren’t even going through. It has had a hard reset a few times, but the issues are just getting worse. I am not going to upgrade under my son’s line 5841 in November because I am not going to extend his contract for two (2) more years. He has an old flip phone that is four (4) years old and if that phone goes up, how will he be be able to upgrade if I have to use his upgrade?
I am asking that you please look into this matter and correct this upgrade issue. The 5253 line should be eligible for an upgrade now, not in 2016.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter. If you need to contact me you can try calling my cell at (removed). (If the call will go through)
    Thank you
    (removed)
Looks like US Cellular has a promotion going on where they will buy out my contracts if I go with them.  Guess I will be leaving Verizon since they refuse to do the right thing.

shoostar, I'm sorry this had to occur on your new phone. In your post, I show you were heading back to the store to exchange your device. Please let us know if the store reps were able to resolve your issue or if they simply exchanged the phone. When a customer has an issue with an application, we always first recommend removing the application off the phone. If you are able to remove the app and still have issues or are not able to remove the app, the second suggestion is a master reset. I have listed both options below for your convenience.
Steps to remove an application below:
Note: Applications included with the Android Operating System may not have an uninstall option.
From the home screen, select the App menu.
    Select Settings.
If the application icon is missing, select App menu filter (located at the top) then select All apps.
    Select Applications.
    Select Manage applications.
From the All tab, select an application.
    Select Uninstall.
    Select OK.
    Select OK.
Steps below to perform Hard/Master Reset:
Note: Performing a hard reset will remove ALL data including the Google account, system data, application data, application settings, and downloaded applications.
From the home screen, select the App menu.
    Select Settings.
If the application icon is missing, select App menu filter (located at the top) then select All apps.
    Select Privacy.
From the Personal data section, select Factory Data Reset.
    Select Reset phone.
If presented, enter the current passcode or draw the unlock pattern.
    Select Erase Everything.
Allow up to 3 minutes for the factory data reset and reboot processes to complete, then perform initial activation and setup.

  • Upgrade is on the wrong line. Question.

My fiance added  a line for me in August/September of 2010. With said line should have came the ability to purchase a new phone. At the time, I didn't have the money and still had a Droid Eris. So I activated the Eris. Now I've cracked the screen and decided I would purchase a new phone (Droid X). But the upgrade is on the primary line, which is her line. So my question is. Can I purchase the Droid X on her upgrade and activate it on my line?

There should be no need to do this, as you said, because your new line should still have the upgrade eligibility. It should have been added as a new line on a month-to-month contract since you provided your phone. I would call CS and talk to them about that.

  • To do's before and after upgrade

On another post, I noted that I cleared my home screens prior to upgrading as was suggested on a droid life site.  The upgrade notification will be obvious and you get to choose between install now, or wait, or get more information.  I just held off the install and deleted all my icons.  Then went to settings, about phone, and system updates, and ran the update.  It took about 2 minutes to download and a few to reboot.  After that I reset my home screens which you will want to do anyway since you will have 5 of them.  I had to reset my ring tones which was fine as they were due for a change.  If you use swype beta you will need to unintall it and its installer and get a new installer emailed to you from swype.com.  That was about it.  Then just spending time figuring things out.

I see where in the other thread you have a link posted in there. That link is for manually doing the update.
I haven't had any problems with the update and I didn't do all that stuff that you said you did. So IDK.

  • DROID 4

I WANT SOMETHING DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been a customer for over 8 years! I wanted a Droid 3 for my last upgrade! BUT THE PERSON I SPOKE WITH SAID IT WAS ON BACK ORDER! I said I would wait. I was told I could not get a Droid 3 for my upgrade and I had to get the Droid 4!!! I didn't want to do this because I didn't want to PAY SO MUCH MORE FOR IT and had to change my plan!
Well,,, I got the Droid 4... the first one came in the mail and it looked used!!!! I sent it back. I got another and it has been horrible! I got it last year June 2012. I called everyday for a week, emailed customer service. All for nothing!!! No help, no resolve!
Droid 4 is HORRIBLE! And I am a droid person!!! LOVED the first 2nd and 3rd!!!!
This phone will not hold connectivity!!!!! I have done everything!!! reset to factory 20 times, removed sim card, changed settings.... downloaded updates!!!! NOTHING works!!! I was then told you are in a 3g area and this is a 4 g phone. okay.... then why was I forced to get it???
Do you think Verizon cares I spent so much money????????????? nope! I put the phone in a drawer and I bought a Droid 3!!!! I have loved it so much! been almost a year and 1/2! It died the other day.... : ( So I decided to hook up the Droid 4 and since 4 months ago my area got 4G!!!!!
Guess what!!!!!???? DROID 4 is STILL HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still no connectivity, still drops calls, still sends back texts unsent due to lack of service!!! Meanwhile the whole world around me is zooming on their lower class droids! Makes me so angry!!!!
Verizon SHOULD take this phone back and I should get a BETTER UPGRADE FOR THE ALMOST 2 years of this crap phone!!! I spent way too much money and had to buy a droid 3 all because they can't give me a product that works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh and I Google this issue and the whole world has the same problem!!
I have paid my bill on time for over eight years, what did I do to deserve this??????????????????

Is the data network set to CDMA/LTE?  Have you done a system cache clear since reactivating the Droid 4?
    Power down phone
Hold volume up/down & power simultaneously until you see the Boot Mode Selection Menu
Use volume down to navigate to 'Recovery', use volume up to select
Should see screen with triangle and exclamation point next to an Android
Press volume up/down simultaneously to go into system recovery
Use volume rocker to navigate to 'wipe cache' and use power button to select
Once finished, use volume rocker to navigate to 'reboot system now' and use power button to select
I may be only one Droid 4 owner/user, but I have had none of the issues you describe...  please try the above two suggestions and post back so we can further troubleshoot if needed.

  • Switching from MOTO Droid to Droid X

I have a motorola droid and recently purchased a Droid X via online using my sisters upgrade because my upgrade wouldn't be until late 2011. No i did not still her upgrade, she wanted the moto droid because she has nails and and cannot use the touchscreen on the X. we made a deal where i gave her my droid in exchange for her upgrade. My question is when my X comes (will ship by 9/9) how do i switch my number to the X and my sisters number to the moto droid. I don't want to take this problem to the verizon store, I want to fix it on my own.

No offense or trying to upset you, but isn't she aware that Droid 2 already launched? I mean, it's so much more improved and nicer than the Droid 1 and also has an improved qwerty keyboard just like the Droid 1 did, except without the navigation pad it used to carry. I'm sure that if you've kept it pretty much in mint condition and once it gets Froyo 2.2 it may run just as nice as the Droid 1 but I really hope she doesn't mind not having used her upgrade to get you a Droid X instead of getting herself the new Droid 1. Just a thought, I'm sure your Sister is awesome and doesn't mind doing this for you but I just think she might not have been aware that there was a newer option she could have chosen since she's extending her contract by getting a phone (Droid X) which she doesn't find suitable. Anyhow, hope you enjoy it. All you have to do is register your new handset online and it'll ask you for a S/N then make sure you've run your Backup Assistant so you don't loose all your contacts. Do the same for her with your Droid 1 but I am letting you know that she will be asked (electronically) over the phone if she agrees to a contract extension of 2 years (1 year if she chose that option). Then after that I'm sure you shouldn't run into any problems once she chooses the data package of $29.99 or higher required for all smartphones since she will obviously still need it for the Droid 1. I apologize for the long response, but hope this helps you. The wait will seem like forever but once you get your Droid X you'll completely forget about the wait and have an awesome time looking through all the functions the X provides. I'm loving my phone especially since I come from a 'dumbphone' which was the LG enV Touch that I HATED and thought a $9.99 or higher data plan was a waste of money for such a phone that gave me more problems than I had with my old school Samsung Alias which I went back to after using the LG enV Touch for less than a year and putting it back in it's box in almost mint condition. With the X I don't mind paying the $29.99 data plan because it truly does so much more than all those Blackberry phones I tested out at the Verizon stores. So glad I went with the Droid X!

  • Any discount at all for earlier upgrade?

So... we have five phones on our plan.  One of the phones, the "master" phone, was upgraded last year to a more recent version of the LG EnV (I think that's the name).
If I'm reading correctly, we can get zero discounts if we were to upgrade that phone to, say, a Droid, even if we also upgraded the plan to include a comprehensive data package.  Is that the case?
Also, is there a customer support/sales chat function online?  If there is, I couldn't find it.  Help--I hate talking to live people!

    Here's how discounted upgrades work:
For the primary line on a 2-year contract - You can upgrade at 12 months (which it sounds like you did), or at 20 months.  When you upgrade, you sign a new 2-year contract, but you can upgrade again at 12 months from the start of the new contract.  The annual upgrade forfeits your NE2 credit, and there's a $20 processing fee.
For seconday lines (the other lines on your family plan) - You can upgrade at month 20, with no NE2, but also no processing fee.  If any of these lines are on a 1 year contract, they can upgrade at month 10.  Every line has its own contract, so different lines CAN have different upgrade eligibility dates.
In your case, you may want to call in and ask about a current promotion that allows anyone with a contract end date in 2010 to upgrade to a smartphone at the 2-year pricing.
As far as the chat function, it comes up when a rep is available.  Browse around the site for a bit and put things in your shopping cart like you're going to make a purchase, that usually makes it pop up for me.

  • Plan Upgrades

I want to upgrade my basic data package to a smartphone data package and buy a droid smartphone. If i upgrade my plan will i have to pay the full retail prices or discounted upgrade/contract prices?

If you are eligible for your 2-year upgrade, you will pay the discounted upgrade/2-year contract renewal price for a new handset. If you are eligible for your upgrade, it will indicate as such fairly prominently on your MyVerizon account page, where it shows your current device. If you are not yet eligible for an upgrade, you will be required to pay full price for a new handset purchase. Good luck

  • Upgrade now or wait?

i currently have a droid x, im eligible for upgrade and was considering the razr maxx.  i wanted to wait for the droid fighter but lately i haven't heard anything new about it so i don't know how far away it is now to even being released.  anyone know when quad cores are coming out ?  thing is my screen got cracked the other day and it's kind of bad but the phone is fully functional still.  suggestions?

I agree ris28.  Verizon has use of the Droid name which would be a good indicator that the Maxx HD/Droid Fighter is coming to Verizon.
Here are some links to Maxx HD/Droid Fighter info,

  • Droid Incredible and 2.2 os

Will Droid Incredible being sold now upgrade to  Android 2.2 free?

Rumor is it'll have Sense UI along with some added Widgets that HTC has made special for the upgrade. I've learned that HTC does have marketing techniques for not just carriers, but individual phones as well. Example: The EVO may have some really cool feature that the Incredible won't have, and the other way around.
Guess we'll just have to wait and see....

  • Adding data to plan

I currently have a basic flip phone and have been offered a droid from a friend who upgraded to another phone.  I have a basic plan, no data and currently pay month to month,  if I change to the used driod phone and add 2g data to my plan does this change my plan from month to month to a new 2 year commitment?  I have a single calling plan one of the old ones with unlimited mobile to mobile and 450 minutes, limited text messages if that matters.

What a nice friend you have!  Data is a feature, not part of the contract, so adding a 2 G data package and 'bringing your own phone' shouldn't put you in a two-year commitment (i.e., require a new plan and contract) unless your calling plan isn't compatible with the Droid (which sometimes happens if it's a really old plan).

  • Unlimited Data Rollover

Since Verizon is hell-bent on capping their data plans in the near future, I'm sort of at an impasse. My phone was stolen and I need to get one immediately. A full-retail Kin one looks fine for now, but I don't want to lose my unlimited smartphone plan (Droid X) when I eventually upgrade to the next iPhone. We don't really know when the next one is releasing, but press has been pointing to Sept-Nov.
Verizon has been saying "very soon" to their data changes, so would an unlimited data plan for a feature phone translate to an unlimited smartphone plan after the changes have been made? Do you think they will happen in the next 6 months?
    Thanks!

  • Two emails, not one reply.

    Hello everybody,
I emailed Verizon last Thursday with a question (which I will talk about in a second). After writing the email and filling out all the fields (since I was not going to be able to really check email over the weekend), I clicked the "send" button. Now ususally when you do this with any other business, you will see some kind of "message sent" screen, and possibly would get confirmation email sent to you just letting you know your message was sent. Oddly enough for a company this big, they don't do either of those.
So I come back and find that, even after 4 days, I have not recieved a reply to my question. So I sent another email early yesterday (sometime in the afternoon), and still no response to either emails. So I'm wondering if my emails are just floating around in verizons email servers, or if they were even sent? (PS: Provide some verification for your email questions please)
My question was about my upgrade status. My NE2 discount is on 10/25, but I was wondering if I could upgrade to a new phone for the 2-yr price early, as in this week early. My old phone (OG Droid) is starting to crap out. Freezing constantly during calls, while opening apps, and just at random. And the battery lasts about half of what it did when I first got it. Essentially it just isn't working the way it should. This is also after cleaning my phone up.
    TL;DR:
Emailed Verizon twice with no response. OG droid crapping out, need to upgrade early for the 2-year price.

First off - "No, stupid, it's manbearpig"
OK, sorry. I've never ever gotten a reply when using that email thing. I think it's just there to make customers feel better. I don't know. Your best bet is to go into a store and ask them if you can upgrade early. It's really a hit or miss, as you'll see on these forums. Some reps will let you, others will fight until the day they die saying they don't have that authority (they do) They're more likely to do so in-store, because you're already there looking, and they can make a sure sale right then and there. Just be warned, though, that you may not be able to. Bring your broken phone in and show them exactly what's wrong with it and they'll be more swayed.
