DW CS5.5 ftp vs Transmit

About the only time I have serious trouble with DW is when FTP gets hung up hung up hung up "waiting for server" so finally I'm exploring other FTP software. A question about Panic's Transmit: does it have a function like DW's to Upload Related Files?

You need to ask the maker of that product.  It is unlikely anybody is using that product here because it is a premium product and most people prefer to use something off-the-web for which there are many users who can help.  no body pays for FTP client when free ones are as good.

  • CS5 FTP Log Question

In previous versions of DW ftp information was appended to the log.  You could got through the day uploading and downloading and the information would all be there in a long log file at the end of the day or until you closed DW.  In CS5 it seems that each interaction with the server overwrites the log rather than appending to it.  I have tried unsuccessfully to find a setting to change this.  I need the ftp information to append not overwrite.  Any suggestions?

    Hi,
Unfortunately, built-in SSIS FTP component doesn't provide that flexibility.
You may explore an SSIS scripting (VB or C#) based on FtpWebRequest classes.

  • Dreamweaver CS5 ftp does not work after my host server was updated

I'm on an iMac running Mavericks.
I'm using Dreamweaver CS 5.5 from the creative suite.
Suddenly the FTP function in Dreamweaver does not work.
My website host stated that they were forced to upgrade their server software for FTP and the Dreamweaver was not compatible.
Will there be an upgrade soon to resolve the problem? I'm having to use Filezilla to upload/download files from my site and it's a real pain compared to just using Dreamweaver.
    Please help ASAP! Thanks.
    Marcus

DWCS5.5 hasn't received an update in years and is no longer supported by Adobe. The chances of there being an update for any new compatibility issue is pretty much slim to none.
If (and it's a big if) your hosting company actually did something that made DW itself incompatible with the server, you would just have to use some other FTP program, like the free Filezilla client, to do your uploads.
Not a big deal, just a small extra step.

  • FTP Connection Issues Dreamweaver CS5.5

I can't ftp into the top level directory of any of my hosting accounts with dreamweaver cs5.5
This is becoming a major issue and I'm aware now of other users with the same issue.
First  log in to an ftp server works fine - the test case directory is created  and deleted - and I think it is this which is causing some odd  permissions issue.
Second time you try to log in, the connection is made,  but then any directory listing times out. However if I define a  directory such as /public_html/images/ then it will connect and display  directory listings just fine.  Clicking "Test" in the server definition dialog results in an OK message.
If i FTP in using a different FTP Client (in this case  Transmit) and upload a single file, the issue goes away, and  dreamweaver can again connect - one time only, until I perform this odd  "reset".
This happens on all FTP connections across multiple  hosting companies (all of the hosting companies my clients sites are  stored at).
    FTP log is below:
    < 257 "/www"
< 220 Welcome to Proweb Server FTP service (JubJub).
      > USER winfo
< 331 Please specify the password.
      > PASS
      < 230 Login successful.
      > PWD
      < 257 "/"
      > CWD /
      < 250 Directory successfully changed.
      > CWD /www
      < 250 Directory successfully changed.
      > PWD
      < 257 "/www"
Then it waits for a while before  giving me the following error message (I've extended timeout to anything  up to a couple of minutes, no difference):
Toggling the "USE Passive FTP"  checkbox may help you establish a connection. -Select or de-select the  checkbox and click Test to tray again.
-if you are connecting  using an IPv6 enabled server, please select the "USE IPv6 transfer mode"  checkbox in the Advanced site definition dialog.
If  the problem persists, check you network settings, including the local  firewall settings on your computer, or consult your network  administrator.
I have tried PASV checked and unchecked, performance optimisation, and every other combination available to me. I am not connecting through a proxy.
The  settings on ALL of my sites worked before the cs5.5 upgrade. The  settings on NONE of my sites with a root directory specified work since  the upgrade.  The only thing that has changed is the move to dreamweaver  cs5.5.  I can connect with other ftp clients.  my ftp server settings  are correct. My server and network settings are unchanged. The settings on ALL my sites on other FTP clients continue to work fine.
Am on an i7 2.8GHz Intel iMac running 10.6.7 with 8 gigs of RAM. I have quit all software except dreamweaver and tried running my mac firewall both on and off.
Really running out of ideas, and know of other people with the same issue since the upgrade - what's going on Adobe?!

Same for me, in that I had an unreliable and effectively unusable FTP connection with CS5.5 . I've reverted to CS5, because even though I'll miss a couple of the new features I need to have a working connection to the site when working with PHP - because otherwise I can't see my site at all other than via Firefox. I also suspect that at least a couple of times I've had some sort of corruption occur as a result of the FTP hanging. All was okay before CS5.5, and I may have slagged off a different hosting provider than my present one when it was in fact (at least in part) a DW issue. If it isn't fixed in CS6 then CS6 is unusable for me and I'd definitely be happier with 'unenhanced' CS5 FTP functionality. The theoretical performance gains with the CS5.5 implementation are trivial by comparison with the problems. If all else fails, please revert to CS5 code for the FTP side of things.
UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is now fixed for me. The problem was that I did not have a proper web url entered in my site definition for the remote server. I'm not sure how that was placing any limitation on FTP access - after all, the need for a full site definition was removed a couple of software issues ago - but the fact is that with the correct web address entered I have working FTP on CS6 (and seemingly on CS5.5 too). I had a simple forward slash entered for the web address, probably as a result of some earlier investigation of the local server/remote server relationships for file upload on a PHP site. I was running CS5 with the correct Web Url entered, so that was working and the CS5.5, without the correct Web Url, was not. I vaguely remember reading that the Web Url was connected with DWs management of absolute/relative links and not much else, but it seems that is not the case. The new FTP is MUCH faster and I'm a happy guy. Site menu>>>Manage sites>>>[select your site]>>>Edit>>>Servers>>>[2-click your server]>>>Web URL:    Put in the full URL e.g. http://www.somesite.com . Not sure if you need a trailing / after, but I have one.
UPDATING AGAIN: Through all of that I had turned on the  'IPv6 protocol' and 'Passive FTP' options in an attempt to get working. The result of that was FTP that worked well once transferring files but often took a while to hook up. Deselecting those, and using CS6, I'm happy with my FTP.

  • Ftp not working

    Hi there...thanks for reading
Dreamweaver CS5.5 ftp error occurred, cant connect to server, however the same settings work in other ftp client, Transmit.
I have screen grabbed the setting in DW and sent to the Webmaster and he verified that the settings are correct.
    What could be wrong.
The server has have recently been changed to a Debian server.
Thanks so much for any thots of this.

finally figured it out...it needed DW to be reset....see link below.
Had to do 2 things, not just prefferences, as that did not work.
I followed this for a Mac. Below are the same link...i

Just doing the preference file itself would NOT have done it, I tested that too...had to be in the app support / dreamweaver folder

    mattsnapper,
Transmit is a fine GUI FTP app, but your question really asks how to put away the GUI.
A good answer to the specific question is difficult because because the script does not keep track of what is happening in which window. If you could identify which window is running which FTP session in then it would be easier to 'close' each window following the session. Sounds like a lot of work to me.
I would suggest using a non GUI ftp tool (you are not there anyway, so what good does the GUI do??)
Check out the URL Access Library in Script Editor. Personally I am fond the shell command 'curl'.

  • Automatically mount an ftp drive on the finder at startup?

Is there any way to automatically mount an ftp drive on the finder at startup?  I would like to use this to a centralized and controlled way for company staff to access and download files while outside the company.

thanks for the suggestion.  Not sure what you mean by network volume?
Most of the time I access the ftp using Transmit.  It will mount the disk to the finder, however only for the duration that the computer is running.  Likewise the ftp disk can be dragged to the login items, however will not open or connect following a restart.
I have tried Automator, set up a small app in the startup items, and viola, it works like a charm.  Transmit opens automatically, mounts the ftp disk and then transmit shuts down.  Great.
Now is there any way that this can be set up on a LION server, so that the ftp mounts, and then can be shared for access to clients on the company's local network?  Staff could then upload files that they would like to have available on mobile devices.

  • IWeb09 updated no direct ftp publishing since then

Have updated (via software update) iWeb to 3.0.1.
SInce then I am not able to update my site directly from the application.
With the previous version I was able to do so.
How can I go back to the previous version, or any idea how to fix this?
    Thanks
    MH

    Hello, thanks for reply.
I am getting a message that there was an error communicating with the FTP server.
    - this happens when I am uploading a site with more (around 10) pages
    - I upload an another page (just one page) from iWeb with no problems
When I get the "error message", and try to connect to that FTP via Transmit right after, I get a server message saying "no more than 5 connections are allowed at te moment".
Therefore in my opinion there is problem with uploading more than one page. Any idea?
    Thanks,
    M

  • FTP permissions

I'm having problems with my ftp services. I'm getting an error on downloading files via web browser links, stating that "you don't have permission to open this page"
I have made sure the under the FTP settings for the volume that I'm sharing, the allow ftp share this item using FTP as well as the Allow FTP guest access is turned on.
I have propagated the permission of the volume down to all inclosed folders and files.
The Custom FTP name is all so the same as the volume name.
I also made sure that 50 anonymous users can connect via FTP.
This has been working for years and now all of the established links in web pages are not able to gain access to the FTP services.
I can't even log in via and the FTP client transmit. It just reports Server said: Login Incorrect, (this is for guest access.
What am I missing, what would cause this?

    UPDATE
Well I just rebuilt the server, after not being able to solve the permissions issue. All is well again.

  • Safari 4.0.2 appears to have disabled FTP data transfers

After installing Safari 4.0.2 and the security updates in that download, my FTP program (TRANSMIT, latest version) that worked fine as recently as yesterday won't work today to exchange data with my other macs.
It connects just as it should, then sits there with spinning cursor for a few minutes before a drop down box says "Server said can't build data connection. Error 160. Could not start data transfer"
FTP still works to maintain my off-site website with my ISP. It just stopped xferring data with my other macs on the wireless LAN. And it doesn't matter which mac initiates TRANSMIT. I have an iMac, a MacBook Pro, and a Powerbook. Two of them have the new Safari installed. None will exchange data with another today. All worked fine yesterday before the 4.0.2 download package.
Given that I never had a whisper of FTP problem before today, and the only difference today is installing the Safari 4.0.2 upgrade, does anyone have an idea what needs to be fixed?

Not to get your hopes up, did you ever hear or figure out any resolution to this. I have a (slightly) similar issue passed along from one of my bosses, that when he upgraded to 4.0.2 it started causing issues with FTP logins through Safari. He would have to enter passwords multiple times on the same site. So initial entry worked and then every subsequent event needed a password entry. Just curious if this could be part of your problem. I tried to emulate the problem on my machines and only on the one I have the 4.0.2 update does it happen.

  • Cannot upload file to FTP

I'm trying to upload a file via FTP (using Transmit) and keep receiving a message "make sure you have permission to modify". I have read  and write permission. I'm using my macbook and its a file I created. What do I need to adjust on my settings? I also tried using another outside service providing FTP and received a similar message so I'm sure its something with the macbook settings.

use a reliable FTP client, such as Filezilla (free app) or likewise.

I'm learning PHP at a local tech school and can put files and

XP. I have a wired connection at school. However, when I try to
work on my site at home on my Mac using OS X 10.4.11 and DW8 I
receive the error: "An FTP error occurred cannot make connection to

I'm am using passive ftp in dw8 and in my network preferences
on my Mac. I've double checked my settings for the site definition
and cannot find anything wrong. I'm using the same site definition
at school and at home. Since I can connect at school I think it may
be a problem with my firewall and airport. FTP on port 21 is
    allowed under firewall preferences.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I am thoroughly
    confused!

If you home is not on the same network as your school I'm
    surprised you can
connect via Transmit because 10.4.11 is not a valid IP

  • Can not Access disk drive attached to WRT350N via an FTP client

    Background
I have a WRT350N v1 running the most current firmware. I have a static IP address for the WRT350N and I can ping it over the internet.  I have a disk drive attached to the 350N with a FAT32 partition that has been set up for shared access for a selected group and user. I have worked with cicso/linksys support to verify the linksys350N is set up correctly (?).
    Problem
I can not access the disk drive attached to the WRT350N via an FTP client. I have tried the following FTP Clients: Transmit and Filezilla.  I get a "Connection established, waiting for welcome message...' message on the FTP client. Then it says Connect timeout, Can not connect to server. I CAN connect to other FTP sites so its not the FTP client software.
What I have done so far
    1. deleted the old  and added a new FTP group and user
    2.  unplugged and reconnected my WRT350N and my cable modem
    3. Contacted Cisco/linksys support on-line and they verified my setup and can ping my 350N but thats as far as they are willing to help
I haven' a clue as to what to do next. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Access your router set-up and make sure you have :
    1. Enabled FTP Server and Internet Access under the FTP Server subtab under Storage...
    2. Reduced the MTU size to 1300 under SetUp...
    3. Unchecked Filter Anonymous Internet Requests...
If you have done all this and nothing works, then, you need to upgrade your router's firmware and re-configure your router and then enter the settings...
    Download Firmware 3.23 MB...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
    1. Enable FTP Server and Internet Access under the FTP Server subtab under Storage...
    2. Reduce the MTU size to 1300 under SetUp...3. Uncheck Filter Anonymous Internet Requests...See if this works for you...

  • Accessing ibook attached to TC by FTP

    Hi
looking for help in this. My TC has the address 192.168.1.1 (I guess this acts as the router). My ibook has the address 192.168.1.3 (set by DHCP). Using manual set up in the Airport Utility I go to Internet > NAT > Configure Port Mappings > Add FTP Access and put 192.168.1.3 as the private IP Address. However, when I try to access by FTP using Transmit I get "server closed connection" error message.
    Any ideas ?

Seems that TC has some in built firewall that will need addressing in firmware update to allow FTP access.

  • FTP access via Time Capsule

    Hi
looking for help in this.

I don't have a Time Capsule to test, but if you go into the preferences panel called sharing, and turn on the feature called "remote login" this will enable ssh and sftp. Do that on the one Mac where you want to share out the Time Capsule disk. On Time Capsule, I assume you get a similar software GUI as with a regular Airport Extreme, right? If so, open up the Airport Utility on the Mac that is authorized to make changes to the Time Capsule device and go into the manual set up. Click on the "Advanced" icon (its looks like a gear symbol) in the AirPort utility's GUI, then click on the NAT tab. Click on "port mapping" and then click on the plus "+" symbol and, using the pull down menu, select "remote login - ssh". This should enable port 22 on your TC. You would log into the same account on your Mac as you do when you boot up, so use that account and password.
    I hope this helps.
