Error when using software update server

Whenever I try to point a non-managed client to use my software update service, I am getting this error;

Any ideas whats causing this?
The software update does not return an error if not using the unix console, it just shows no valid updates.

The reason why you are receiving is because you don't have the forward slash after the 8088.
Your current setup: http://fileserver.occmed.net:8088
Correct setup: http://fileserver.occmed.net:8088/
This will solve your problem.

Try rebooting your router and or cable modem. Unplug it/them for about 30 seconds and then plug back in. See if it works then. Reboot your iPad as well.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Error 1638 - iPhone software update server can not be contacted.

    Hi,
I can't update my iPhone iOS to 4.3.3 with iTunes since a few months i still have the 4.3 version. I am using iTunes with an iMac with all software updated.
I am getting the error "iPhone software update server can not be contacted..."
I made a few research and tried the following fix:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275 for error 1638 > 1004
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3297 with no success (specifically the Blocked by configuration section - 2 Rebuild network information, the hosts file under /private/etc/hosts had no information that needed to be commented with #)
After all troubleshooting I re-installed iTunes with http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1224
And I am still getting the same error...
    What can I do?
    Thanks for your help

Same issue still with OS X Lion, last version of iTunes, can't update to iOS 4.3.5 or restore my iPhone 4. iPhone isn't Jailbrake. I am allways getting the error: "the iPhone "****" cannot be updated at this time because the iPhone software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable." (error 1638).
I'd like to update iOS or restore my iPhone if needed but this doesn't seem to work neither as the problem is related to the conenction to the server.
    Can anyone help?

  • How do I reclaim disk space, no longer using Software Update Server

    Hi All,
Hopefully a straight forward and simple question, but after searching for quite some time I’m unable to find an answer.  I am currently running OS X Mavericks Server 10.9.1 along with Server 3.0.2.  Among other services I have the Software Update Server enabled and it has been enabled and running since back in Lion 10.7.  I figured I would try the new Caching service which is “supposed” to provide similar functionality to the SUS but also include other new capabilities.  At any rate I had long ago configured the SUS to store the updates on a large RAID volume I have attached to the system (the ability to do that has been absent from the GUI for a long time now but it does migrate with updates).  At any rate I have STOPPED the SUS and using the “serveradmin” changed the “updatesDocRoot” back to the now default location of “/Library/Server/Software Updates/Data”, not that it matters since the service isn’t running nor will it be but incase I enable it again someday.  I have also moved the swupd.conf and swupd.plist files in “/Library/Server/Software Updates/Config” to .old files to back them up/delete them just in case. So now I have a bunch of updates stored on my RAID in a directory that I would like to delete to reclaim the space, however I’m a bit apprehensive to do so since I have not seen anywhere in the SUS documentation I’ve read that it is “safe” to do so.  The point being that someday if I chose to re-enable SUS that I don’t end up with a bunch of problems to deal with.
So 1) can I just go and delete the directory where SUS had been putting the updates?  2) have I missed anything that would bite me if I choose to re-enable SUS using it default directory?
    TIA
    Ron

The answer should be that you are fine.  The structure of the folder should contain a Data/html path.  Inside the html path is all the downloads.  You should be able to delete the contents of the html folder and be perfectly content.  Purging the contents used to be a troubleshooting tactic.

  • Error message when using Software Update

Hi everyone. I'm getting the following error message when trying to download some items via Software Update:
"None of the checked updates could be saved. A networking error has occurred: Cannot open file (-3001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again."
This is for the following downloads:
    iPhoto 7.1.4
    iDVD 7.0.2
    iMovie 7.1.4
    Security Update 2008-005
Any ideas? I have no problems with Internet access at all. I'm running a new 24" Intel iMac 3.06 GHz with Mac OS 10.5.4
Thanks for any help you can provide.
    Bruce

    Hello b:
It sounds simplistic, but restart your computer if you have not already done so. I looked, but could not find that particular error code.

  • Odd error (-3001) when using Software Update since Leopard upgrade

Whenever I try to install anything that shows up in Software Update now, I get this error:
You do not have appropriate access privileges.
A networking error has occurred: Cannot open file (-3001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again.
However, I AM connected to the Internet, and I AM an Admin. I should have no problems doing this, and the issue only tarted when I installed Leopard. Anyone know of a fix?

Anyone have any ideas about this one? Still can't do a software update.

    Hi Wishing,
    What is your current situation?
This issue might be caused by 3rd-party software handles, you may take a try to run Windows 8.1 update assistant and see what it says:

  • Visibroker Bind Error When Using Sun Application Server

I have a servlet that utilizes Visibroker 3.4 to access CORBA objects. My servlet works fine when using Tomcat; however, when using the Sun Application Server 8.2 PE, the same code does not work. After a few second delay (timout?) then the following exception is thrown.
    org.omg.CORBA.NO_IMPLEMENT:
Could not locate the following object:
         repository id : IDL:A3Server:1.0
         object name : mobile5A3Server
vmcid: 0x0 minor code: 0 completed: No
         com.visigenic.vbroker.orb.ORB.bind(ORB.java:1282)

         A3AppGen.A3ServerHelper.bind(A3ServerHelper.java:27)
         A3SessionConnection.connect(A3SessionConnection.java:74)
Has anyone experienced this and better, found the solution. Interesting fact is that this only occurs when using the .bind(orb(), serverName); call.
Another servlet packaged in the same .war file receives an IOR and is able to successfully access the CORBA object using orb().string_to_object(serverIOR); with both Tomcat and Sun Application Server.
    Thanks for the help.

  • How Software Update Server Broke Today...

So, in an ongoing series titled "How My Software Update Server Broke On Me Today," we come to today's episode:
SU server, after working flawlessly for 4 whole days straight, will now only push ONE new update out of the THREE new ones that came out yesterday to the clients. This was after last week's episode where we had to go into the Apple.sucatalog file, rename that, move it elsewhere and pray that it started working again (which it did for four whole days).
What will our hero do this week? My first suggestion to myself--stop using software update server and end the misery and pain once and for all.

All servers may be down from time to time, either for regular maintenance or because of various other problems.

  • When trying to download Boot Camp Windows Support Software, error says: "Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."

I use a Macbook Pro 13" mid 2010 on Mavericks and I've tried using the Boot Camp assistant to download support software for Windows 7. This gives the error "Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."
Further, I tried to separately download Boot Camp 4 and 5. When I do this and try to install from Windows 7, it says that this version of Boot Camp is not for this computer and doesn't install. The result is that I have Windows 7 working and installed, but am unable to use the trackpad to rightclick, brightness settings, etc.
    Please help!
    Thanks

You need to run Bootcamp Assistant and select only the menu item to download the Windows Support Software. Follow the instructions. The download servers are extremely slow therefore it may take several hours to get the download.

The iphone software update server could not be contacted" - error message recieved when i try to update to 5.1.1 via itunes , what can i do ?

    Dear Lawrence Finch:
If you're still around I hope you see this message, as you're the FIRST person (after reading every link, thread, other sites, apple support articles, etc.) to mention JB may be causing this iTunes popup window to REPEATEDLY occur:
"The iPhone software update server could not be contacted."
No, I did not hack anything (are you kidding?  Grannies don't hack!), but I unknowingly bought a 3Gs iOS 3.1 from ebay that was not advertised as JB.  Since it is like brand new, I was going to keep it (because my old backup is iOS 3.1.2) & was trying to simply restore & update, which (I thought) would remove the JB (that's what everybody says at forums, etc).
Instead, after "erasing all settings/content" (inside phone's Settings to get the prior person's name out of there), it is now stuck in White Apple Mode.
Put it in DFU/Recovery Mode & connect to iTunes but that stupid above message keeps appearing & I have already read/tried EVERYTHING to get rid of that message, starting with:
    1.  OLD phones (3Gs) with OLD iOS 3.1+ should work FINE with OLD Mac (iBook) with OLD OSX (Tiger 10.4.11) with OLD iTunes (9.2.1[5]).  So that can't be the problem.
Here's all the other things apple & others say to check which I already checked:
    2.  USB ports are FINE, both work FINE, so that's not the problem.
    3.  No "extra USB devices" are connected, ONLY a mouse, & then the phone (yes, I tried it w/o the mouse connected but that didn't help).
    4.  No "usb hubs."
    5.  Latest iTunes for this OSX has already been DL'd (iTunes 9.2.1[5]).  If you know of a newer one for this OSX, please advise.
    6.  No antivirus software.
    7.  No security software.
    8.  No routers; only 1 comcast modem, period.  Wired Ethernet.
    9.  No wifi gadgets, no wifi at all.
    10.  No firewalls, except what is on iBook in the SHARING/System-Prefs. section.  It's turned OFF.
    11.  Did the hosts/terminal thing sudo nano whatever it was.  There were only 3 lines, NO gs.apple.com:
    xxxxx local host
    xxxxx broadcast host
    xxxx local host
Oh, & btw, ATT officially unlocked this phone (after I filled out their online forms) but I can't finish the process via iTunes to get their Confirmation that "Device is Now Unlocked," so I can use T-Mo.
So that's it.  If you have any other ideas of what to do from here, since from your comment, maybe it's the stupid JB on this phone that is causing the problem (???), please advise.
    Many thanks!
