Exporting JPG for use as as Splash Screen or Thumbnail

I need to produce jpg files at 262x193 and 320x240 for use as thumbnails on a web page, but don't see a way to so this with Compressor.
Currently I have to use Cleaner to produce these images seeing as there seem to be a scriptable means to:
1. Export first frame of target .mov
2. Resize to 262x193 and Export as .jpg at Quality 100
3. Resize to 320x240 and Export as .jpg at Quality 40

So you are looking to PRODUCE jpg images from video, it isn't that you have the jpg's already and want to compress them.
If so, the process you have with cleaner sounds like the only way to go about it - but it is a process you could do in Compressor as well. Just bring the movie into compressor and export the movie twice into the two different sizes you want, and then export your stills from each.
Though if you have Photoshop, you could export all the files just at one size and create a Batch for Photoshop to do all the reszing to the second size while you sit back and watch.

  • 320x240 JPG for use as as Splash Screen

How do make compressor output a 320x240 jpg of every video clip in the batch for use as a splash screen?
Ideally I'm hoping to produce a file that is around 12k.

    Hey paulclark,
i wouldnt recommend compressor for this job, since compressor really only outputs .TIFF's as image sequences. if you can live with that, then it will be a one step process: (applies for compressor 2.0.1):
Drag file into Batch window. Click on the file to select it, on the top of the OS window, click on "Setting" > "New Default Settings" > "TIFF".
now, look at the inspector window. in the "Encode" Tab, enter your frame rate and leave checked on "create unique output directory".
under the "Geometry" tab, look for "frame size" and type in your new frame saize (320x240) and finally at the lower right of the inspector, click on "Save As" and name your new setting.
back in the batch window, click "Submit Now" and your off!
but i would strongly recommend you use QT Pro, although it is a 2 step process but will give you the EXACT results you are looking for:
open up your QT file and "File" > "Export". in your "Export" drop down box, click on it and look for the setting "Movie to Quicktime Movie". right next to this will be a "option" button, click on that as well. in options, click on "Settings..." and "Compresspr Type" = Animation; "Frame Rate" = Current; "Key Frames" = ALL; "Depth" = Millions of Colors +; "Quality" = Best. Click "OK" and then look for "Size...". Click on it and in "Dimensions" select 320x240 QVGA and dont forget to check ON "Deinterlace Source" if your footage is deinterlaced. click on "OK" and Click "OK" in the Move Settings Window.
Finally, name your new file and select a directory and hit "Save".
Once your new QT is done exporting, open that new file up and once again:
File > Export. in the Export drop down select "Movie to Image Sequence" and click on "Options..." in the "export Image Sequence Settings" window that opens, select: "Format" = JPEG, "Frames per second" = whatever your source is; and click on the other "Options..." button on the lower left hand side.
In the new "JPEG Options" window that opens: "Best Depth"; "Quality" = Medium and **THIS IS KEY** check ON "Targer Size" and make it equal 1200 bytes.
click OK, Click OK again, and finally name your image sequences and the directory where they will be created and you will have the exact files that you want!!
once you have done this, you can massage the numbers in the "JPEG Options" windows to whatever you like!
    hope that helps some...

  • Exporting videos for use in PowerPoint

I have a seven minute video I am trying to export for use in a PowerPoint presentation. Everything plays fine - the video is more grainy that I would have liked - but the titles just show up as black screens. I can still hear the audio but it will just flash the words for a split second and then turn to a black screen.
Do you have any idea why this may be happening? Is there a different format I should be using or is it simply a PowerPoint problem?

I don't know what "Optimize Stills" means. When I say I'm very new at video editing, I mean brand new. I was able to put together a 45 second news-clip-style video of our latest staff function but this is pushing eight minutes and is an integral part of our organization's upcoming forums next Tuesday.
Do you think I should be contacting Microsoft about what the issue might be with PowerPoint, instead of worrying about my file?
The weird thing is, when I just Export-Movie, it comes out fine in Windows Media Player but wonky in PP. When I Export-Adobe Encode-WMV, it won't even open on my computer or play in Windows Media Player. Any suggestions on compressing the file further without any problems?

  • Export settings for high quality, high resolution screen cast

I am trying to use iMovie for editing some software demo screen casts, and while my movie looks dandy in iMovie shown full screen, my final export looks like there is a lot of compression and antialiasing going on.
I am starting with a 1920X1080 screen capture via iShowU HD Pro, using Animation as the compression type. For final output I am using the Export using QuickTime option, and I have tried MPEG-4 at Best Quality, H.264 with Best Quality Compression and Multi-pass Encoding, and both look pretty bad. Anyone have any recommendations on the best export settings for a screen cast? Especially one that I would ultimately like to make available cross platform as well as via iTunes?
    Thanks,
    Gordon

I understand iMovie 6 won't compress the import. Everyone complained when apple changed away from iMovie 6 and but a link to download ILife6 (no cost) but they have since removed the link. I am looking for ILife 6 myself to get an uncompressed import if you find it please post so I can get it too, thx dan

  • Premiere CS4 exported videos for ipod all show black screen when played

    Hi,
I am trying to export a video for an ipod from an mp4 source file.
The project settings are set to ipod and so are the export settings. I get a normal video file (mp4) with the right resolution etc. The sync with itunes works without problems and i get the right thumbnail of the video in the Ipod menu.
But when i try to play the video i only get a black screen, the timer is running and i have sound.
I think i have tried all the possible settings. None of them worked.
Can you help me? Where is the problem?
    Thank you

export to a regular .wmv file, or any other type you want.
now use a program like this one:
    http://www.imtoo.com/ipod-movie-converter.html
If you have deep pockets you can try Sorenson Squeeze.
or you can try this one
    http://www.xilisoft.com/ipod-video-converter.html
unfortunately this doesn't solve your problem the way you wish. ( a free fix )
I'd do a good Google search for answers, with some good keywords, and you may find
a solution that won't cost you anything.

  • Help with exporting HD for use in DVDSP.

    Hi Guys,
Very glad I found this forum as I am just out of ideas to get this working. Here is the situation:
I have a project of a wedding in HDV, which contains 3 sequences with the following lengths:
    The Service = 45mins
    Photoshoot = 5mins
    Reception = 80mins
I have decided I would like to have the Service + photoshoot on ONE DVD and the reception on ONE DVD. If possible? If not possible I will have the reception spread over two but i do not see the need.
First of all I have a Powermac dual 1.8 which doesn't have a dual layer dvd burner, so to have a higher quality result and to be able to fit more on I have decided I probably best to get a Dual Layer burner to do this project.
But before I do that, I need to work out what is the best settings for exporting this project out of FCP 5.1 to work on a SD DVD? Do I use compressor? If so which preset or what settings of my own? I have tried various things and I honestly get lost and my project in DVD SP is around 12GB. So i try exporting again with other ways in compressor and then the quality just looks terrible.
The FCP project is all in HDV with apple intermediate codec so I would be exporting from that, but obviously only need the DVD in SD!
If it helps converting the HD project to SD/DV I can do that with the sequence which I did try and then some more export experimenting but it looked really bad.
Please help guys I am desperate and no idea on what to do here.
I really appreciate your time, feel free to ask me anything to help you determine what I should do.
    Thank you so much.

I am using the "default" settings now which are 4.0 and 7.0 and it still says too high? Whats the deal

  • Managing multiple external jpgs for use in virtual tour

I've posted for help in a few forums now including this one. I have a big delima that I cannot overcome using google alone.
I'm creating an interactive tour (pretty much a controllable slideshow) and I have multiple pictures now that, if in the correct order, will walk you around my school. You can turn left or right at doors (the picture that you're stopped at will wait for input from either the up, left, or right button and when clicked will take you to the corrisponding picture) and will eventually lead you out another entrance of the school and take you back to the main map.
My problem lies in the pictures... I have hundreds of pictures each one needing to be referanced. The only thing I have figured out is that I need to use arrays to organize these pictures and make them easier to access. I have considered using XML to organize the lists of pictures but I cannot spend hours typing out all the names of the pictures.
I need an easy way to access my pictures from outside my flash AS3 project.
A reply with links to helpful things or even some code I could use would be extremely helpful.

  • Export graphic for use in Premiere Pro Cs4

Hey everyone, I have made some wiring diagrams in AI CS4 and need to have them apear in a DVD, I have tried several cominations and they are not clear on the video.  My settings are RGB, DV NTSC Widescreen, have exported for Web and Devises and in Tiff & Targa 72 & 300 DPI.  The diagram has text that looks fine in all the stills but in Premiere and the exported video the images look like a poor photo copy.  Thought I'd start here before asking in PPro.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Mmh, differences between versions aside, you are pretty much getting what you are asking. Any compressed format will have a hard time with perependicular lines and lots of high fequency detail (text, the coil spirals). There's really no way to avoid that otehr than to draw thr graphic differently, i.e. not use straight lines and a different way of presenting the text callouts. Also, you could massively improve perception by having the graphic move with a simple slow pan. the motion will lead to a more favorable distribution of the pixels across the scanlines, as the content changes every frame and in addition, motion blur will help to reduce flicker. Lastly, give the graphic some finesse by perhaps making the lines white and adding a dark outer glow to separate them from the background. these blended areas also help to reduce artifacts that appear with harsh transitions on straight lines. If it's an option , you might even want to use color for the + and - cabling (usually blue and red). As Wade suggested, you might try rendering to a different spec, but depending on what your intended final output is, this may not help at all, so working a bit on the graphic might pay off more.

  • Exporting video for use in website

I know this topic has been addressed before, but after using the search feature, I wasnt able to really get anywhere for my particular situation.
I have used FCP HD to edit a 3.5 minute video. Now I want to export it so that it can be posted on a webpage. I exported it as a QT movie, using the H.264 codec, and a frame size of 320x240, and the file size is about 30 megs. The guy that does the website Im tyring to put this video on said to shoot for the 5-10 meg range. Is it possible to get this video down to that size range ? I have read before somewhere to shoot for about 3 megs per minute. That would put this 3:30 video around 10 megs. How can I get it smaller ?
And I also know that cutting size also reduces quality. I tried some other settings and got the file down to 18 megs, but that was using 15 fps and the quality did not look good.
Should I be using the H.264 codec for this, or is there any way to use a different codec that is more widely accepted and still achieve a small file size ?
    Thanks.
    Powerbook G4

So is 30 megs a reasonable size file for posting on a website ? Will that just make the download times longer ? And would it be better to set it up for streaming ? I know I've seen it many places where you just click on the movie link on the web page and the movie window pops up and begins playing the video as it downloads the rest. Is this actually downloading ? Im guessing it is either the "fast start" or the "streaming", but Im not sure which.
And I know I've read somewhere on this forum to expect about 3 megs per minute - is this referring to something else like wmv files or something ?

  • Exporting files for use in FCP 7

I'm working on an animated project right now where I draw individual images in Photoshop, save them as PNGs, and then bring them into AE CS4 as image sequences. I now have a bunch of individual scenes that I want to trim and edit in FCP 7, but I keep having problems trying to open the .mov files in Final Cut. I've been using the Animation codec to maintain quality, but FCP can't seem to open all of the files.
Oddly, it can import some of these scenes (seemingly at random, I use the same settings for each) but others get the error message: File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown. I know this question should maybe be posted at an FCP forum, but I was wondering if I would have better results using different settings to export out of AE? Perhaps 10 bit uncompressed or just PNG sequences? There is no sound to worry about as of yet...
    Thanks in advance!

Not sure I fully understand what you're doing now, but here's what I do:
    1.  I right-click on the layer I want to copy effects from and choose Copy Layer Style.
    2.  Then I left click and Control-left click on all the layers I want to paste the style to, then right-click on any of them and choose Paste Layer Style.
Is that what you were talking about re doing 2 operations?
Note that if you have styles you use over again a lot, you can create a preset.  You access those by double clicking a layer, then clicking on the Styles heading at the upper-left.

  • JVC GZ-HD7U MPEG Streamclip export settings for use with FCP

There are a number of compression options in the free MPEG Streamclip 1.9.2 and it's unclear what's best or how I would figure that info out. My guess is Apple HDV 1080i50, Apple HDV 1080i60, Apple DVCPRO HD 1080i50, or Apple DVCPRO HD 1080i60. The default setting was Apple Motion JPEG A, but this produced a huge file and doesn't seem right anyway. I think the desired frame size is 1920 x 1080, but I'm uncertain if I need to end up with an interlaced or progressive .mov file. My selectable options for progressive/interlaced are: "Interlaced Scaling," "Reinterlace Chroma," and "Deinterlace Video." Selecting "Deinterlace Video" excludes use of the other two options.
These clips will eventually be edited in FCP and I'm guessing that the appropriate settings will match whatever is selected at the export stage.
I'm using the JVC Everio GZ-DH7U HD Hard disk camcorder...I'm not sure if JVC uses the same setting across the board for it's HD cameras or maybe just the Everio cameras are similarly designed??
    Thanks to all!!

the output should match the source file, generally speaking. So if you camera is making HD files then using a HD sized coded would suffice.
HDV (IIRC) is 1440x1080. I often find that using the default settings for a particular file type in Streamclip often work quite well.
As a test, take a small file. if it works, great batch process away, if not, tweak it and then try the same small file until you get a desirable result. Rinse and repeat.
