Extra charge if 10 daytime calls not made

Hello there,
I have just come back to BT to order BT Infinity with free evening and weekend calls.
However having just got off the phone I am absolutely baffled. The operator we spoke to has said that we must make 10 daytime calls (at a min. cost of the standard 7p connection fee per call) otherwise we would be billed an extra £5 a month.
How on earth:
1) Does this work - ie WHY?!
2) Can this be justified - being punished for NOT using their phone network
3) Can we get around this without the hassle of making 10 quick calls a month.
Sorry for my first post on these forums to be a negative one, but this has really confused me. We are going ahead with the order because we are looking forward to (an estimated) 60mbps broadband connection after years of a maximum of 1.5mbps (if it even stays online for long enough to use), but this has been a huge downer on what we were hoping to be a positive experience after years or torture with our only LLU service available on the local exchange (and therefore the slightly improved ADSL2+) TalkTalk.
Kind Regards,
Kris

I thought it was 6 calls in the quarter (or 2 in a month if you're billed monthly). 0800 and 0300 freefone don't count.
Edit ----------------------
Take it back, the minimum requirement of 6 calls is for 1571, Line Rental Saver and BT Privacy.
The legal stuff for connection charge offers states:
"Connection Charge Offers A minimum call requirement of 10 calls per month is associated with this product. Calls can be chargeable or those included with your chosen call plan. A charge of £5.15 applies in each month that you do not make the required number of calls. Calls to the following numbers will not count towards the minimum call requirement: 0800/0808/0500 Freephone numbers; 100/198/155 Operator; 112/998/999 Emergency services; 150 BT Customer Services; 151 BT Fault Reporting; 195 Blind and Disabled Directory Enquiries; 1471/1571. Calls made using BT Broadband Talk and Chargecard are also excluded."
Note this is 10 calls per month. I'm not sure what a "Connection Charge Offer" is, though.
Edit 2------------------------------
It seems a connection charge offer is when they give you a 90 quid discount to put in a new line. That comes with strings.

  • Outgoing call not made

Our FIOS on-line call record shows an outgoing call made when no one was home.  In calling that number, heard strange intermittent tones, but not a FAX warble.   Googled the number online and found it was a toll-free business fax line but no other information available.  When I clicked on Call that number, it appeared that nothing happened, but then it showed up as an outgoing call made -- again with no one home!  How is this possible and how can it be avoided?  Definitely strange.

This is possible because you can use the www.verizon.com/fiosvoice to place calls from your computer to any desired number.

  • BT trying to charge me for call I have not made.

    Hi
Can anyone help me - I have just spent ages on the phone to your billing people none of who seem to have any common sense (also I have been cut off in "transfers" from one helpdesk to another). Apparently I have made a phone call for 18.28 hrs none stop and I am been charged £88 for it. Although no one in the house has made this call so it is obviously a fault!! I am actually on anytime free calls!
    Thanks

I didn't mean for that reason, just making sure it's not a dodgy company that's charged you   And if its a family number how are you sure the calls not been made?
Sadly phone records are accurate, extremely accurate. It's likely the phone hasn't been put down properly. Maybe it went through to answer phone and wasn't disconnected

  • Iphone will not charge via usb-to-computer nor via brick; I've tested with two different cables. Just before this problem arose, I got messages similar to "This accessory is not made to work with iPhone."

Most of my concern is in the subject line. I probably should've saved some content to include here. Allow me to elaborate:
While traveling with the tiny brick, I got a message on my 3GS phone that "This accessory is not made to work with iPhone”; however, the charger was working fine with another phone and with an iPad.
I tested alternatives by removing and re-inserting the cable (obviously, as I tested other devices), changing wall receptacles, shutting the phone off (all the way), all to no avail.
When I got home, I plugged a different cable--one that was connected to my iMac rather than the brick--into the my 3GS; it still didn't charge.
So, I'm hypothesizing that perhaps some debris (from a pocket?) got into the charging receptacle of the 3GS and is disrupting the connection. Perhaps there are other hypotheses.
I am reluctant to do a reset, as (a) the problem doesn't appear to be a software issue (the phone and software are all working, though the charge is declining) and (b) I don't want to lose the contents before I can sync it (now that I'm home, again).
I'd welcome suggestions. Meanwhile, I suppose I shall e-mail photos and notes from the phone to myself before I lose the remaining charge.

Try to clean the 30-pin receiver slot either by blowing air into it or using a microfiber cloth. If the problem persists, based on what you've already said, I'd say the problem is most likely hardware, and would need to be replaced or repaired. I hope your iPhone is still under the 1-Year Manufacturer Warranty, or if applicaable extended warranty. You can check by calling AppleCare National iPhone Technical Support at 1 (800) 694-7466.

It seems to me that the connection port is faulty.

  • What is the best charging cable for the iPad Air (that is not made by Apple)? I need a long cable (over 6ft or more). I also need the cable to be of high quality and the cord part of the cable to be made of strong material.

What is the best charging cable for the iPad Air (that is not made by Apple)? I need a long cable (over 6ft or more). I also need the cable to be of high quality and the cord part of the cable to be made of strong material. Apple does not make one this long. Is there a cable out there that is sturdy like this and is safe to use?

yes, but I'm trying to use my iPad to type notes (using pages) and I have the smart case which I use as a stand. I need a cable long enough to fit through the back of my desk and the charging brick for the iPad won't fit behind the desk. I have to put it on the floor and then the apple cables aren't long enough to reach.

  • Iphone bluetooth charging cradle--not made to work with iphone??

About every 5 minutes, my iphone pops up with a note that "this accessory is not made to work with iphone", whenever it's in the charging cradle that came with the apple bluetooth earpiece. Anybody else see this? any idea what's up? I just love the inability to get direct communication with apple on the topic.

I have the same problem. The same pop-up comes up when I plug the iPhone into the cradle that comes with the Apple-branded iPhone bluetooth headpiece. It didn't use to have this problem before, and the iPhone used to recognize the headset as also charging when both were in the cradle. Now, the headset does not even charge up when the iPhone is in the cradle at the same time!! I think the latest iPhone firmware upgrade messed up everything!! HELP!!!!

Change your password.  Alert your credit card company that your account has been hacked - ask them about reimbursement.

We are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support.
You've checked the purchase history on your account to see what the 18.87 charges were for (they may have been from a day or 2 before the Dec 7th), and nobody else has acess to your account or devices and may have made them ? It not then you can try contacting iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • HT4759 My "notes" made on phone disappear on charging phone using apple computer and not found on iCloud either...what setting do I need to adjust?

My "notes" made on phone disappear on charging phone using apple computer and not found on iCloud either...what setting do I need to adjust?

    You got it.
Notes - if notes are created in icloud notes (you may have multiple notes accounts) - icloud notes and only icloud are synced over all your devices and icloud server, so if you want to see those on the server you can go and manage (edit) on www.icloud.com.
Since notes synchronize by using same IMAP email server - turning them "ON" will prompt you to create mail address.
To add to that you do not have 10.8 that has it's own notes app, so your notes go to Notes folder in your icloud/me/mac mail and synched by your mail server.

Please be aware that you are not communicating with Apple when you post in these forums. The people who will reply to your posts are, like me, in almost all cases your fellow users. If checking your Purchase History in your iTunes Store account (you'll need to use iTunes on a computer) doesn't remind you of something you purchased in that amount, such as an in-app purchase, go here:

The most immediate thing you need to do is to call your credit card company and report the unauthorized charges. Your card company can contact Apple if they need additional information.
Next, log into your iTunes Store account and see if the purchases are reflected in the Purchase History. If they are, immediately change the password to your iTunes Store account, making sure it's not something easily guessed or looked up. Then go here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store. Whether or not they'll do anything for you I don't know, particularly if you didn't change the password after your iPod was stolen.
If the charges are not reflected in the Purchase History, then it's most likely a fraudulent charge to your credit card directly rather than an unauthorized purchase through your iTunes Store account in which case it will be up to your bank to handle.
    Regards.

  • An extra charge for changing the number of rings before voicemail picks up??

After trying all the tips I could find about changing the number of rings it takes before the voice mail picks up (the 58#, trying access setup on the vm, changing it online, etc…), I finally called the customer support line.  I was put on hold for a few minutes (not a problem) only to have the customer service person return to say that he cannot change it because I would have to pay for the "upgraded" voice mail that is not included in my plan (the plan I just signed up for last month). I find it absolutely absurd that moving the number of rings for vm from 4 to 6 justifies an added cost.   If anyone knows the magic on how to do this for a line that is in the Dallas Ft Worth area, I would be very appreciative.  As for the extra charge to adjust your own voice mail, you can draw your own conclusion on how fair that is...
And I don't buy that it is not as simple as it appears... if you can program the thing to pickup on three rings then you should be able to adjust the forwarding  and vm to pick up on 6.  i have never had this problem with any other carrier.

I called tech support, not customer service, and had my rings moved back a few so my answering machine would pick up first.  Voicemail is for back up in case I don't answer call waiting.
    It was free.

  • Unsure about (extra) charges with international ca...

Normally, anyone in the Netherlands that receives a call from abroad is charged for receiving a call from abroad. Also, anyone in the Netherlands that makes a call abroad is charged local rates PLUS extra for making a call abroad.
I am from the Netherlands and I am now in the United States.
If my Dutch friends call me from the Netherlands on my Skype Number (which is a Dutch number), do they pay local rates PLUS extra because they make a call abroad (as I am in the US)?
And, if I have activated call-forwarding in the Skype Settings (from my Dutch Skype Number / Skypeaccount to my American phone number) do they also pay local rates PLUS extra because they make a call abroad (as I am in the US)?
If I call using my Dutch Skype Number to my friends in the Netherlands, will they be charged by their provider because they receive a call from abroad?

Hello and welcome to the Skype Community!
    1. They just pay local Dutch rates.
    2. They don't pay anything extra - just local rates as in 1. above. Call forwarding charges are your responsibility.
    3. Skype Numbers are for receiving inbound calls. You can't make a call from one. With Skype there are no international calls. All calls are local worldwide. Your location is irrelevant. Your Skype calls from the USA to the Netherlands are local calls.
