Extracting data to an external system

Hi,
We need to extract data from an R/3 system into a BW system and the same data (and more) should also be uploaded into a customer application (based on Oracle).
I wonder what's the best in order to load data into this external system:
1. Read data from the R/3 system, using RFCs (calling the function modules of the corresponding datasources, don't know if this is possible)
2. Use the open hub service functionality, in order to read the data from the BW system.
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Ana

Hi Ana,
Could you elaborate more on what kind of data you are willing to pull from R/3 using which method. first check wheter you can use standard extractor to pull the data into BW. Check what is the method you are going to follow in order to pull data , Delta or Full update (If just one time). If standard extractor are present try to use that than Generic method.
Infospoke supports distribution of data to Flatfile and Database and check if you need to do any transformation when you extract the data from BW to external Database.
Experts feel free to comment if my understanding is not correct.
hope it helps.
Thanks.

  • Best practice for extracting data to feed external DW

We are having a healthy debate with our EDW team about extracting data from SAP.  They want to go directly against ECC tables using Informatica and my SAP team is saying this is not a best practice and could potentially be a performance drain.  We are recommending going against BW at the ODS level.  Does anyone have any recommendations or thoughts on this?

    Hi,
As you asked for Best Practice, here it is in SAP landscape.
    1. Full Load or Delta Load data from SAP ECC to SAP BI (BW): SAP BI understand the data element structure of SAP ECC, and delta mechanism is the continous process of data load from a SAP ECC (transaction system) to BI (Analytic System).
    2. You can store transaction data in DSOs (granular level), and in InfoCubes (at a summrized level) within SAP BI. You can have master data from SAP ECC coming into SAP BI separately.
    3. Within SAP BI, you SHOULD use OpenHub service to provide SAP BI data to other external system. You must not connect external extractor to fetch data from DSO and InfoCube to target system. OpenHub service is the tool that faciliate data feeding to external system. You can have Informatica to take data from OpenHubs of SAP BI.
Hope I explain to best of your satisfaction.

  • Sending IDOC creditor data to an external System

    Hello,
I have a scenario where I send the creditor data from SAP to non-SAP System.
For SAP System as a target I can use the TA BD14 to do this. This is working fine. But this is not my case, I need to send on non-SAP System.
So what is the right solution for sending to an external non-SAP System? With BD14 I can only send to logical system what for me is only SAP System (right?). My workaround solution is to maintain the external non-SAP System also as logical system und choose the port as Data-Port (data will be saved on file system). Is it the best solution or there are more better known?
Where can I obtain more knowledge on intergration of external non-SAP Systems? The documentation that I have covers in 95% the issue of SAP Systems. Intergration of non-SAP Systems (or sending data to non-SAP Systems) ist more difficult as I see.
Thank you in advance. Best regards.

    Hi,
In order to send data to external system and if you have an middleware used in your landscape then
create logical system for that system and associate the port with RFC destination (based on middleware used type 3 ot type t) can be used and idoc can be sent to middleware and middleware can take care of sending the data to the external system by converting it into required  format..
These are normal scenarios for which Middlewares are used for integration..

  • Sending order data to an external system using scp sftp (osm 631.221)

    Hello There,
I need to come up with a means of sending some order data to an external system via SCP or SFTP.
I was looking at an automated task that would fire off some Java to package the data, create the file and send it.
I then have to write another automated task that will block the order and check the file system for a return file and then update the order with the data from the file.
Does any one have ideas on the best / recommended approach to achieve this ?
I am obliged :-( to send and receive the file via SCP/SFTP.
    any help would be appreciated.
    Jim

    Hi Jim;
Using a custom Java automation plugin is the right place to start to tackle the problem. There are several Java libraries that you could consider. Apache Commons VFS (http://commons.apache.org/vfs/index.html) supports both SCP and SFTP and insulates you from having to deal with the specifics of either so you may want to start there.
As for the problem of getting a response, given that there is no notification type capability with those type of file systems, you will have no choice but to poll to check if the file exists. Not pretty, but so long as you are not dealing with very high volumes it should work ok. You can model the polling as a subprocess consisting of two tasks. Task A is implemented by a custom automation plugin using VFS or similar to go and check if the file exists, and if it does download it. If the file exists and is downloaded successfully then the task completes with a success status. If the file does not exist then it completes with a retry status. The retry status is mapped to a delay rule task - and the delay rule task simply waits for some interval (e.g. 1 minute) after which it completes and loops back to Task A.
    Hope this helps,
    Brian.

  • Looking for SAP solution to extract data from the production system

    Hello,
we are looking for the SAP standard tool to extract data from the production system and copy it to the development system. It should be as functional as some kind of partial client copy. The data, which we need to replicate is master and transactional data from FI, CO, AA MM and nice to have FS-RI modules. There is a product offered by the IntelliCorp called "Data Management" but we would like to know if SAP offers its own product.
    Kind regards,

    Hi,
SAP offers a solution called 'Test Data migration Server' or TDMS.
You can access the master guide from the below link:

  • Master Data issue from external system to BW

    Hi,
    BW Version: BI 7.0
    Source System : Oracle D/B
The Data will be processed by some external application and the processes Data will be stored in tables in Oracle D/B.I am extracting Data from Oracle Tables to BW.
The issue i had is in the external application for example if we created a new Location ID,The new location ID won't be avaliable in Oracle untill i use it (assing it to any employee)
Once i assign it to employee then the Location ID and Description will be avaliable transaction tables.
Then in this cas how can i load master data to location ID in BW.
    or
    Thanks

    Hi,
Simply create a Location ID InfoObject that will work as Master Data. Then create a datasource for the extraction of the Location ID Master Data (at least for the attributes, and probably for the texts as well).
You can then schedule an update of this data everynight via process chains.
All this will update the desired information independently from the transaction data.
    Hope it helps,

  • Extract data from Retai & AFS system

    Hi , Guys,
If there are SAP Retail & AFS system with different master data and transactional data , how can I extract master data and transactional data from these two system into SAP BW?
For example , if i want to extract the stock management data , how do I create the two Souce system in BW, both as SAP souce system or not?
    Thanks !

    Hi Yong,
    1. Should I create both systems as SAP source system or not?
Yes, both should be created as SAP source systems.
    2. If I want to extract the master data of 0MATERIAL , should I do the extraction job from the two source system with "0LOGSYS" ?
You have to understand the business process of how material master data flows across these two systems with the help of the functional team.
In our scenario, we have not used '0LOGSYS', because the same material code coming from both the systems were one and the same.
    3. If I want to extract the transactional data of stock movement data from both systems, which infocube in BI content can I use?
I suggest you implement standard business content ( 0IC_C03, I guess ) and utilize that for one source system ( Say AFS). Copy this cube into Z cube called ZIC_C03 and connect the retail data sources to this cube. If you want to combine stock reporting from both the systems, you can create a multiprovider on top of this.
    Thanks,
    Krishnan

  • Extracted Data size in sender system

    Hi,
How to we know the size of the extracted data is sender system before loading data into the receiver system? Which phase in TDMS tree would provide us details?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
In order to get an approximate data transfer volume,
First you will have to enable Size Prediction in activity "De- / Activate Size Prediction for Receiver System" in System Analysis Phase.
Then, post running of the optional activity "Fill header tables (Collective Exec.) (Optional)", we have an activity "Display Data Transfer Volume (Optional)" which would show the approximate data that would be transferred to your target system
But note that this would mean extra runtime since the optional Fill Header Activity too would need to be executed.
    Regards,
    Suman

  • Function Module required to convert the date coming from external system

    Hi Friends,
I need a Function Module that would convert the incoming date from external sytem in format YYYYMMDD to the SAP system in DDMMYYYY. The External system data type for the date is Numberic. Please suggest any FM if you know.I found out many in SAP but didn't find for this requirement

Wait a minute.  I am definetely missing something here.  You want to convert from an external format YYYYMMDD to SAP's internal format?  SAP's internal format is YYYYMMDD.
All you should have to do is move you external date directly to your internal date.
data: date1(8) type c value '20051225'. "Format YYYYMMDD
data: date2 type sy-datum. "Format (YYYYMMDD)
    write: / date2.
When you write out date2 it will be in whatever format your user profile has.
If you want to force the date format independent of your user profile settings during the write statement:
    write: / date2 DDMMYY.

    Hi,
You will  have to study the business needs and populate according data, You may also raise an SR with respect to this and get the support from Oracle if you don't have any experienced superiors on this subject/module to ask from.

  • 0CRM_SALES_ACT_1 takes a long time to extract data from CRM5.0 system

    Hi Team,
We are having CRM 5.0 and BW 701.
We are extracting data from CRM to BW using extractor 0CRM_SALES_ACT_1 in CRM. But it is taking long time.
Please suggest what can we do to improve the performance.

    Hi,
its depend on the data volume its take a time along with CRM server.
during your load time if crm server was busy then it may delay your load.
Need to trigger your load where less burden on servers(CRM/BW).
While triggering before please check available application servers to process your request at SM50.
if this full load and have huge data then please split your loads with selections and load them into bw.
you can increase processing records count and info pack wait time at info pack level.
go to info pack--> menu scheduler--> wait time and datas setting for data transfer.
during your load time ask basis team to keep on eye at T code - SM58(CRM).
    Thanks

  • Pulling/Extracting Data from Multiple SAP Systems - Scripting, ABAP?

    Hello All,
I am working as an analyst for a large company that has multiple SAP installations across the world.  What I am trying to do is create some global reporting metrics based on data from all of those systems on an ad-hoc basis without having the other units send the data to a central repository.  I can receive access to all of the systems but I am unsure how to pull the data. The access to one of the systems I have currently does not allow the use of ABAP or RFC but does allow scripting.  If I have a good business case I could ask for ABAP access and RFC as well.
I have researched and read through many posts and articles within the forums but I am yet to find a solution.  I have experience in VB, VBA, and MS Access.
Can anyone suggest any ways to move forward?
    Thanks!

According to my understanding, you may use vba in your excel or a just vb by programming against rfcsdk(librfc32.dll) or the newly nwrfcsdk, or use jco or nco..., but all these method are based on rfc function call.
You may write a simple abap side data extraction agent, just a function select some table with the data you interest, and then call this function from outside regularly, then you may save the returned table to a csv then bcp to sqlserver(c + batch), or just write to excel sheets(vba).
The simple table read function you may check RFC_READ_TABLE, but it has some limits and are not released. The more functional agent is also can be found from other vendors, eg ms sqlserver2005 kit`s sap adapter...
I do not have idoc or services experience, maybe in that senerio you will find a easier solution.Good luck, you may reach me at <b><REMOVED BY MODERATOR></b>

    Hi,
Currently, I am reading table data using RFC_READ_TABLE function module. but I want to achieve same thing using the Open hub services. There is so much of information about infoSpoke/open hub etc. But couldn't understand how to specify the target table and the query parameters etc. It would be of great help if somebody can point me to the correct document which describes all the steps.
