Federal Trade Commission info RE Verizon forcing Bing on customers

I got my "upgraded" blackberry 8530 yesterday and spent over an hour arguing with verizon once I realized I couldn't change my default search provider. In addition to contacting the Federal Communications Commission, I also contacted the Federal Trade Commission and reported it.  For anyone that would like to call and complain, FTC's # is 877-382-4357. Be prepared to provide a quick summary of your complaint immediately before the representative will determine if you are making a legitimate complaint. I stated I wanted file a complaint against Verizon Wireless and their internet search engine agreement with Bing for restricting my ability to choose and set a new default search company if I choose. The agent was helpful and asked me a series of questions about it and filed a report. I stated that in my opinion not only am I being forced to use a single specific company, but it so happens that the company I'm being forced to use is supremely inferior when compared to others that offer the same service. I informed her that there is no way to download apps and then change the default and I have to go thru a convoluted process to use another search engine. A few years ago Microsoft got in trouble with their bundling of IE and other features on Windows and I believe were found guilty of violations despite people could use another internet browser if they chose and make it the default. This to me seems an identical issue with the exception that I can't simply download google/yahoo/whoever app and then make it my default. I have the option to choose between BB, Internet Explorer as well as Mozilla for my online browser on the phone but when it comes to the search engine nothing but Bung, er, Bing. She said it very well could be classified as an unfair trade practice and a unfair restriction of competetion. I know it's a diservice to Verizon's customers and hope that enough people with complain or at least talk to the right people to force them to at least allow us as consumers the option to spend our time to download and use the features we want provided it doesn't give unfair advantage to their competetion (Sprint, AT&T, etc…) In less than a second using GOOGLE I was able to come across this thread so I'm happy to know that at least one other person is upset about this issue as well. I hope we're not in the minority and there's enough complaints to effect a change. I mean has anyone at Verizon actually compared the search results side by side for their usefulness and for their depth of info?

Ho hum... old news.
I don't like it either, but there is such an EASY work around to keep from using it, I don't know why you are not.

what thread?

Yes there is, having Bing as the default search provider has no affect on downloading apps or the use of hte BlackBerry browser.

  • Is verizon forcing customers to have smartphones?

    I noticed that almost all the phones that are available for upgrading your device is smartphones, is Verizon forcing customers to use smartphones so that they can get more money from data usage?

    Verizon can't sell a phone that is not made. The phone manufactures for the most part do not make basic phones anymore. Since there are basic phones still available for upgrades I'm not sure where the "forcing" part is coming in. You can still get a basic phone if you want one. Also the cost of data on a Share Everything plan for basic phones is the same as it is for smartphones so I'm not sure where you get the "make more money from data" part from.

    I have a Samsung Convoy "dumb" phone, and I plan to keep it until Verizon forces me to some **** overpriced "smart" phone.  Since they migrated Backup Assistant to "the Cloud", I am unable to print a hard copy list of contacts. The web site just runs you around in circles, never getting to the answer of how to print out contacts.  I'm sure the marketing people and web creators just love this Frankenstein monster they have built, but for me and my phone, it's just a huge pain in the ***!  Do they plan to fix this, or just let us dinosaurs go away and die?

    there is a point : no workie
    how hard would it be to place my (or yours I am told) iPhone4S on a city block curb………..
    and just walk away.. .. ..

  • HT1937 Any info on verizon allowing unlocking of iphone4 ?

    Any info on Verizon allowing unlock os Iphone 4 or sprint iphone 4s?

  • Commission Calaculation for Sales Force

    I want to know the configuration steps for commission calaculation for sales force depends upon the below stated criteria....
    NOTE: In bold format those requirement to meet. Rest of those are set by the management earlier....
    As – Is requirements‎
    <b>To- Be requirements&#8206;</b>
    Please refer below for the clarifications. There are few significant changes:&#8206;
    Step 1 – Group Sales Target (Sales group will be given a sales target on a periodic basis. And &#8206;this will be built up by individual sales employee).&#8206;
    Required Fields:          Period – from (month/year)                      to (month/year)&#8206;
    &#8206;                                    Sales Office:&#8206;
    &#8206;                                    Sales Employee:&#8206;
    &#8206;                                    Target Quantity:&#8206;
    <b>Requirements after discussion:&#8206;
    &#8206;- The MD wants to put some targets for regional wise, sales office wise……means for &#8206;
    Example: Jeddah Region – 100,000 SAR’s&#8206;
    &#8206;             Riyadh Region – 75,000   SAR’s&#8206;
    &#8206;- Sales & Marketing manager can complete/ reach the whole target or including the sales men….&#8206;</b>
    Step 2 – On Time Collection (Sales employee will get commission for on-time collection for the &#8206;revenue that he achieved in Step 1). &#8206;
    Required Fields:            Period – from (month/year)                      to (month/year)&#8206;
    &#8206;                                    Commission % (this commission could be in decimal %)&#8206;
    Condition should be 100% collection criteria. Need to see the no of invoices raised and whether &#8206;collected them individually. For example if 10 invoices raised for SR 10,000 each and on-time &#8206;collection has happened only for 5 invoices then he gets commission only for the 5 invoices &#8206;collected on-time (SR 50,000).&#8206;
    <b>Requirements after discussion:&#8206;
    &#8206;           - In this condition they want to keep some targets per SALES MEN                       &#8206;</b>
    Step 3 – Sales Target for Selected Products (Sales employee will be given a target to sell certain &#8206;promotional products)&#8206;
    Required Fields:            Period – from (month/year)                      to (month/year)&#8206;
    &#8206;                                    Sales Office:&#8206;
    &#8206;                                    Sales Employee:&#8206;
    &#8206;                                    Material:&#8206;
    &#8206;                                    Target Quantity:&#8206;
    &#8206;                                    Commission %: (This will get extracted from a separated table maintained &#8206;with material & commission %)&#8206;
    <b>Requirements after discussion: &#8206;
    &#8206;                    Commission will get by the sales man on the basis of below stated Condition &#8206;
    for Selected Material X for specified period X target amount…&#8206;</b>
    Conditions for getting the commission: &#8206;
    &#8206; &#8206;
    <b>&#8206;1.&#8206;     For getting the commission, the sales team must and should achieve the above 2 &#8206;conditions out of 3. Then only eligible for commission
    &#8206;2.&#8206;     Commission will be get by the sales man based on in-time collections.&#8206;
    &#8206;3.&#8206;     &#8206;80% of the commission will be distributed among the sales mens.&#8206;
    &#8206;4.&#8206;     Rest of 20% the amount will be distributed among the Sales & Marketing Manager and &#8206;Coordinators on over all performance.&#8206;</b>

    Hi,
    there are two ways:
    1. near-realtime, which is easier. Use SQL queries to get the information from real time tables from ICM. The information is not really realtime, since it is updated in 5-10 seconds interval.
    2. CTI monitor, which might be challenging. Use the CTI interface of ICM to 'subscribe' for all/selected events, including state changes and then do your calculations. It's realtime, but again, programming it may take a while.

  • Verizon driving long time customers away.  Why?

    I try to keep my business with Verizon.  Been with them over 14 years.
    Have 5 lines, 2 smart, 3 basic.
    Won't let me upgrade 3 basic lines to iPhone 5 via Edge program.
    New customer can get them for free.
    AT&T will give me $150/line (up to 4) that will cover my cost for leaving Verizon early.  Get me six iphone 6s, and still have the same plan costs.
    Why does Verizon drive long time customers away like this?

    Well if you happen to reside in an area that provides the service, and use the One Bill to have (of course) single billing, this would be why the Edge program would be ineligible. It's a little tough to explain without going into detail, but to keep it short, if you're interested still in having the Edge program, you would need to call Verizon Communications and ask to de-enroll from your OneBill account. All billing would be separate, but at least you'll have the Edge.
    Feel free to ask me any questions about it.

  • I just took back my LG optimus b/c verizon forces me into ONE plan

    Verizon I hope you're listening because you just lost a paying customer who had already bought one of your phones and was all set to give you more money.  I wanted to get another prepaid phone for a relative (I currently have a basic verizon phone that we barely use), and I didn't realize until I got the LG optimus home from the store today that you "let" people "choose" ONE stinking plan (some "choice").  THAT is the so called "choice."  One plan.  One option.  Verizon = North Korea when it comes to the LG optimus phone.
    I called to activate the phone and got told by the automated setup robot quote "you qualify for the 'allset' plan" and it gave me NO OTHER OPTIONS.  I never wanted the stupid "allset" plan because it's WAY too much money per month.  I wanted the same plan as is on my other prepaid verizon phone, which is the 99 cent daily usage fee then I add a $15 fill up card once a month or so.  We're like about half the population because we don't yack endlessly on stupid cell phones, we just wanted our basic one for emergencies, and another one so we could communicate, but if verizon can't drain your bank account every month, they don't want you as a customer.
    Since there is ZERO CHOICE allowed on the communist verizon lg optimus phone, I took it back to the store and got 100% of my money back.  You lost a paying customer AND you now have to process a returned phone.  See verizon, this is what you get when you treat customers like garbage and allow no choice whatsoever.  People walk away and keep their money when they're given no choices.
    Believe it or not verizon, we're not all made of money.  Furthermore, not all of us want to talk endlessly on a stupid phone.  MANY of us only want a decent phone for emergencies or near emergencies, and to take pictures, and don't use very much cell service in a month.  QUIT PUSHING EVERYONE INTO THE SAME EXPENSIVE BOX OF OVERUSE OF CELL PHONES, because many of us just won't stand for it.  Verizon, you need to recognize that there is more than one type of cell phone user out there.  Some people are constantly on their phones and apparently have endless money, but the majority of the population isn't like that.
    Telling me I "qualify" for your ONE measly "choice", the "allset" plan, is an insult to me the consumer and all potential customers.  Don't give me one "choice" and then tell me I "qualify" for your one measly "choice" which isn't a choice at all because there's no other option.  Verizon didn't give the courtesy of telling me clearly UP FRONT that there was only one "choice" allowed for that phone.

    No I haven't synced my iPhone with the computer I'm currently using. The computer that I normally sync my iPhone with is being repaired.
    I read a nearly identical question to mine (in which you answered) and I found my the answer. Thanks!
    Now I have a few more questions: If I mail my broken iPhone to Asurion, will I be able to get my data off of my iPhone once Asurion has it? And what will happen to my old iPhone and the data on it if I activate my replacement iPhone? Will my broken iPhone just become de-activated and will the data be erased or lost or something? Could I still sync it (with the computer ir originally synced with) and back up the data?
    Thanks.

  • Foreign trade / Customs info

    Hello experts,
    I have a problem with billing split. The scenario is the following:
    I have created a purchasing organization that belongs to a society called UMA. This purchasing organization has a plant (UMC) without any warehouse (at the moment, it will be only used to create third party orders).
    The customization of the plants and materials involved in this problem are:
    Plant UMC: Located (customized) in France (belongs to UMA society)
    Plant POC: Located (customized) in Spain (belongs to POA society)
    Material JT11: Material  type: Third party. Created at POC plant. Source country ES (material master).
    Material INSTALATIONED: Material type: Third party. Created at UMC plant. Source country FR (material master).
    The sales order is created as follows:
    Sales order created at UMA sales organization (that belongs to UMA society). The “ship to party” and “sold to party” are the same and both are French (Customer country: FR).
    The sales order has two items:
    Material JT11, the plant has been determined as POC
    Material INSTALATIONED, the plant has been determined as UMC
    At the moment, all seems correct. The next steps are:
    Confirm sales order. (OK)
    Purchase order of the materials (OK) (each one thought the corresponding purchasing organization, in function of its plants)
    Good receipt (OK)
    Billing (from the sales orders). (PROBLEM).
    The bill is made from the sales order (UMA organization). The billing process splits in two. The split analysis is the following:
    (from  SAP)
    Split analy.
    Split due to different header data
    Fld Name                        $000000001           $000000002
    Export indicator                Y
            Number of foreign trade data i  0000086130
    The first position (JT11 material that belongs to Spanish plant, POC) contains foreign trade / Customs information. On the other hand, the second item (INSTALLATIONED material that belongs to French plant, UMC) does not contain any information about foreign trade / Customs.
    The question is: Is it possible to avoid the bill being split in two and still save the information related to foreign trade / Customs (otherwise the Intrastate would not work)?
    I tried to modify the copy control (between sales order and bill), but the splitting is only avoided when the foreign trade / Customs information is lost (changing the header field Determ.export data to null. It was A).
    Thank you very much for your help and  attention.
    Ricard.

    Hi
    The foreign trade settings available under Sales & distribution tree in confirguration is enough.
    Regarding the Foreign law and other details , we will usually get them on the project.
    E.g.
    We have Eurpoean Sales List to be subimitted to govt everymonth
    In India, we submit the Sales Tax report.
    Basic understanding is , Ship to Party and Sold to Party contry are different .
    we need to maintain few settings as Mode of Transport , Country of Origin , Commodity code and some default settings .

  • Any Trade in info to upgrade to Mac Book Pro?

    I have a 1 yr old PowerBook G4 15 inch. Would like to upgrade to a Mac Book Pro 15 inch. Bought G4 thru Denver Apple Store. Are there any offers to upgrade from this to the new Intel version?

    a brody,
    Thanks for the advice and link. I'd actually read the Apple notice about the "high-pitched buzzing noise," which in part prompted me to send the machine in for repairs (the Genius actually recommended a logic board replacement, but the Apple techs seemed to ignore this request, probably because of the shortage).
    I like your plan, but from other users' accounts of their experience with customer relations, I'm skeptical that I'll actually be able to receive a replacement. It sounds like AppleCare and Customer Rervice are both very reluctant to do replacements for machines that have only received a single repair. Am I simply wrong about this? In any case I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try.
    And just to flesh out the plan a bit... Suppose I'm talking to an AppleCare rep, and they repeatedly refuse to replace my machine. What do I need to do in order to 'escalate' the issue to customer relations? Presumably getting mad and yelling at the rep is not a good idea. Are there some magic words I can utter? Is it as simple as saying "I'd like to escalate this issue to customer relations"? As of next week my notebook will be "business critical," would telling them this help? Maybe crying?? (j/k but hey, if it works...)
    Finally, is there any chance of a refund if I bought the machine in late May? I know it's WAY past the 14-day repair period, but conceivably they'd make exceptions under certain circumstances? Quite honestly the speed of the MBPRO is not worth dealing with these issues (for me, anyway), and I'd be ecstatic if I could go back to square one and get an EOL PowerBook.

  • Trying to trade phones with another verizon customer

    So I use an iphone on my plan. My sister has her own plan and she also has an iphone on it but she recently switched to AT&T and suspended the line. She gave me her iphone because mine cracked and now i want to be able to use it on my plan. Im not sure how to do this because in order for me to use hers, it must be switched out with a different phone. Is it possible for us to completely switch the phones so i have her iphone and she has mine?

    No problem whatsoever. Just turn the phones off and switch the SIM cards. You should probably do a factory reset on each of the phones prior to turning off, though, so you don't leave any private information on the phones. If your phones have SD cards, you should probably keep yours, too.
    I have switched phones 8-10 times on my line over the last 6 months or so simply by switching out the SIM card. Just can't seem to decide which phone I like best.

  • I can't get a call back, cant download you have taken my money for 2 months now. I can't cancel my membership so now I'm going to file a federal trade complaint.

    It appears that you've pushed those layers into negative time, which you can't view in the Timeline. To get the layers back into the Timeline view, you'll need to move the layers in time with keyboard shortcuts. I assume that you've got your layers arranged in an edit, and you want to preserve their relationships, so do the following:
    Select all of the layers.
    Hold down Alt/Option+Shift and press Page Down until the layers are visible. This shortcut moves layers 10 frames later in time. Removing Shift moves them 1 frame at a time. Using Page Up instead of Page Down will move them earlier in time.
    Another useful pair of shortcuts is [ and ], which set the in or out points of the select layer(s) to the current time. But you probably don't want to use those shortcuts in this case because you'll lose the time relationships of your edit.

  • Does Verizon Care why its customers are leaving?

    I initiated a port of my number to another carrier tonight. I called Verizon Customer Care to ask them specific questions about the closing of my account. The customer care rep answered my questions and ended the conversation by wishing me luck with the new carrier. She didn't seem at all interested in knowing why I went to a new carrier after being a Verizon customer for 2 years.
    As a senior living alone I don't have any need for the share everything plan that Verizon is now marketing; primarily to families. They have no interest in serving us seniors! This share everything plan only increases my costs to almost $100/month and I barely use any data bandwidth. I recently had to increase my plan minutes from 450 to 900 because of the need to call my 95 year old father more often. Even when I increased my plan minutes the online system showed my plan usage go to 507 minutes, back to 372 minutes and then back to 507 minutes all within 24 hours! The rep who I called verified the 372 minute usage number and then the usage popped back up to 507 minutes within a few hours.
    My plan also didn't provide any text messaging without paying a per message cost!
    I went with another carrier with unlimited voice messages, unlimited text messages and more than enough data bandwidth for my needs. This plan will be over $20.00 less than I am now paying Verizon for a plan that I don't need!
    Give me unlimited voice, don't force me into a Share Everything family plan and then maybe I will come back to Verizon!

    They have the 65+ plan for talk only which services most seniors as they don't need the texting and data. Otherwise, yes you will be paying more to get the fancy Smartphone and all its gidgets and gadgets.
    Good luck

  • Why does Verizon Penalize Long-time Customers?

    I started out as a Alltel customer in 2004 and became Verizon during the merger.  I had a pretty nice plan at 500mins with unlimited text and data.  When Verizon started their More Everything Plans, they started alienating those of us who still had unlimited plans.  Not only are the plans more expensive than the Alltel plan I have (by about $10 - $15 for a decent plan), but if you didn't sign up for it, you could no longer upgrade at the promotional price and had to pay full price for your phone.
    The compromise to this was Verizon Max.  This gave customers a way to keep a fairly large amount of data (6GB) and still keep their plan price low.  However, even this plan penalizes customers:
         - You can't share the data
         - You can't use your device as a hotspot, even though you have plenty of data to use
    This works just fine, until you decide to add devices to your plan.  So here's my situation:
    I'm sitting pretty at about $90 per month (before taxes, add-ons, discount) on the Max plan.  All is well until I see that they started selling the Galaxy Gear S.  I call Verizon and they tell me I need to upgrade to the More Everything Plan, which is about $120 before taxes for 10GB (they give you 10GB instead of 6GB).  Then you pay $5 per month to add the watch to your plan.  All this for a total of $125 a month - a permanent difference of $30.
    Obviously I don't want to spend that much more money on my plan, so I ask what else they can do.  They said the only other thing they can do is add the device as a separate line with its own data plan and phone number.  Since the only plan you can buy from Big Red is More Everything, that comes out to about  $25 before taxes.  That's only a $5 difference between that and More Everything, so I may as well use More Everything so I can keep the same number and just share data.
    My point is, either way, I will have to pay at least $25 just to enjoy the benefits of owning a new device.  For context, before More Everything, new lines only cost $10 and you just paid for the device and that was that - easy.  $10 is something I can handle - $15 is pushing it.  But $25 more a month??
    It's ridiculous I have to jump through all these hoops just to enjoy new devices and good service.  As a customer of 10yrs, there's absolutely nothing Customer Care is even able to do for me (I was on the phone with them for over an hour) and their so-called loyalty plans are just crippled versions of the fully-priced plans.  I just want to buy the stupid watch, add it to my plan for a low price, and keep it moving.
    There's no benefit to being a long time customer at Verizon, so I'm going to start looking at other companies that take better care of their loyal customers. I'd love to stay with Verizon, but there's obviously no love for me.

    Hi Lasina, thank you for reaching out.
    I didn’t get a new number, but I was presented with the full paperwork.
    I’m not sure how you can restore my trust in Verizon.  First of all, they blew me off in the store – told me I needed to contact customer support.  My expectation was that speaking to someone in the store was one of the customer service options.
    Once the Target employee listened to my needs, he actually got me to upgrade my phone.  When I called with questions regarding the $40 I was charged to activate the new phone.  After asking to speak to a supervisor, I was put on hold, and the agent came back to me with this stupid option about how they’d refund $20 and then give me $2/month to make up the difference.
    At this point, I asked about my cancellation options – since I called immediately when I got the bill.  I was told I was 3 days past the opportunity to cancel my contract altogether – unless I want to fork over $350.
    I am open to whatever options you have to attempt to restore my faith in Verizon, but my Customer Service experience so far isn’t promising.
    What do you propose?

  • Verizon Employees Actively Discouraging customers from Buying Windows Phones

    My wife and I both decided to buy Windows phones this time around.  We had previously been Android people but wanted to try something different.  We walked into our local corporate store (somewhere in TX) and when we told the salesman what we wanted (weren't interested in, but WANTED) he told us "you don't want those".  We tried for a few minutes to convince him that YES, we did want those and when that didn't work we eventually had to go and get a manager in order to actually purchase the things we came in for.
    After looking at all of the forums outside of Verizon it seems that this is the normal experience.
    This is unacceptable.  I don't care if you want to buy an iPhone, a Nexxus, an Icon, or an HTC One M8.  There is no excuse for this kind of behavior.  VZW needs to take a good look at their culture and remind their employees that they are a vehicle for delivery to the public, not gatekeepers.  We need to let the CEO know about what is going on in his stores.
    You can contact Mr. Daniel S. Mead (CEO) by going to www.verizon.com/about/leader/contact/73.
    Maybe if enough of us say something they'll try to at least pretend they appreciate our money.
    Also, it would be really great if he would consider releasing the WP 8.1/Cyan update which is already sitting in VZW's hands at some point.

    Yea, I've posted about this very thing before.  As the techie in the family and for all my friends, everyone comes to me before they purchase any tech gear (as well as having me for their free support hotline. )  When I take people into Verizon and discuss the pros and cons of each of the phone operating systems as well as the devices themselves, I give the individual the choice as to which device they purchase.  But if the person chooses a Windows Phone, almost every time the Verizon staff actively tries to push them towards Apple or Android.  There's even been times that Verizon told us that there is no such thing as a Windows Phone.  Just a few days ago, I took someone in and they wanted the Icon.  The clerk said there was no such thing.  I took them over to the wall and showed it to them.  They became quite angry and unprofessional.  I grabbed the manager and she didn't care.  The person still wanted the Icon and when they brought out the phone, they brought out the iPhone and tried to set us up with that.
    Unfortunately, it's not isolated to one store or one city.  I personally know many people around the USA where the Verizon store staff have shown the same animosity towards Windows.
