Finder Time Capsule connection problem

On a client's brand new iMac, I clicked on the Time Capsule in Finder and clicked "Connect". It failed, and the console gave the following error:
/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/MacOS/Finder[268]
SharePointBrowser::handleOpenCallBack returned 45
I tested this on 3 other Macs on the same network, and they all worked fine connecting to the same Time Capsule, so this is system specific. I created a new user account, and it still didn't work. I checked the iMac's connectivity to the network, and it was fine. I tried creating a new network location, no go.
I'm out of ideas and my client is anxiously awaiting a functional backup system. Anybody else come across this issue? Any ideas? Thanks!

Never figured out why this happened, but an Archive and Install of Leopard, fixed it.

  • Time Capsule connection problem

Hello, since three days ago i have been unable to make a backup because I have a connection problem to find the backup disk. The message that I get is: " Check the server name or IP address, and then try again. If you continue to have problems, contact your system administrator". It is weird because when i run the airport utility it shows a green ligth on my time capsule device and also the time capsule hardware has the green ligth. Furthermore I use the device as a router and my network is working fine (Internet, wireless printing HP-envy).
Any ideas on how to fix the issue?

Try just restarting the TC.. this is a Lion plus 7.6 firmware issue.. maybe the new 7.6.1 will help.
If that does not work reset the TC and redo its setup.

We have a problem connecting to a time capsule, we are connecting via ethernet, we can connect if we disconnect power and restart, we can connect for around 2 minutes then the connection is dropped every single time.
With an error code of -6753, now if apple have taken the time to create an error code, then surely somebody at apple can tell us what this error code means..?.
Anyone else having similar problems and anyone know of a fix.

We have tried two hardware resets, removed harddrive and did a full diagnostic test, upgraded and downgraded the firmware to check that it wasnt that.
Disabled automativ time updates, disabled wireless, disabled DHCP, manually set an ip address, and not using IPV6....!!!!

  • Time Capsule connection problems

My wife and I have late 2013 Macbooks (Rmbp and Air) and a late 2013 generation Time Capsule (5th generation? the tower one) .  We continuously have issues connecting to the Time Capsule on wake from sleep on our laptops.   Frequently, it will connect, we will get one web page, then we will get the exclamation point in the network status icon.   Very frustrating.   Sometimes turning wifi off and on will get it to connect, sometimes if we just wait a few minutes (and I do mean minutes, not seconds) the exclamation point will go away and it will be connected.    Have changed the network names to shorter ones, with no spaces.
We are on the latest Mavericks, as far as I can tell everything is the latest revisions.      What else can I do to debug this?  (on another similar issue, our Kindle's will never connect to the time Capsule wifi)
Before I get Apple support involved, any suggestions?  Have tried power off/on for the TC, tried factory reset, so not sure what else I can do at this point.

Some of the issue here might be the laptops themselves.
Tesserax has a document about setting this up correctly.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3411
From the TC side, I must say it has not proven to be a great wireless router to this point.. it is about time apple got on with a full rewrite of the firmware.
Let me suggest you set a different name for 2.4ghz and 5ghz.
Connect the laptop to 2.4ghz and see how it goes. You can also test channels on the TC, for 2.4ghz, manually set to 11, 6, 1
Most of the issues seem to be on 5ghz.. so if 2.4ghz behaves.. swap back to 5ghz (now that the names are different you can select them) and have a try.
I refuse to buy one.. I have enough bugs in the room and on the dog without adding to them. My Gen4 TC is very well behaved. Anyway try setting the 5ghz wireless to say channel 40. I doubt it will actually change. Apple have removed most controls.. and even the ones there don't work.
No luck I would simply exercise warranty on it.

  • Time Capsule Connectivity Problem with Airport Utility and Mavericks

I have a Time Capsule from 2011 which worked perfectly with my IMac and Airport Utility 5.6.1 but since the upgrade to Mavericks, I cannot get it to work with Airport Utility. Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

    When you say.....
I cannot get it to work with AirPort Utility....
What does not work?  Can you open up AirPort Utility and  take us through the steps? What happens after each step?

  • Airport Utility can't find Time Capsule but wireless is fine

    Hi
I have my Time Capsule connected via cable to my NetGear Modem/Router and have wireless enabled on the Time Capsule.
I never have any problems with the actual wireless connections to the internet via any of our Macs or PCs in the house, but on a fairly regular basis, the AirPort Utility comes up and tells me 'AirPort Utility was unable to find any apple wireless devices. Please make sure the Apple wireless device you want to set up is plugged in and in range of your computer, and then click rescan to try again.'
Wireless access continues to work just fine when this happens, but I just can't get to the Time Capsule with the Airport Utility. Un-plugging and re-plugging the Time Capsule makes it appear in the Airport Utility again, and it's fine usually for a few hours or most of the day, but then quite often I will open Airport Utility again later in the day and it again will not be able to find the Time Capsule again.
I have tried firmware 7.3.1 and 7.3 but it didn't make any difference.
So I wonder if anyone might have any suggestions as to why Airport Utility would not be able to find the Time Capsule yet the same Mac from which I am trying is quite happily connected wirelessly and surfing the web.
    Thanks in anticipation!
    Ken

Wow it took me awhile to find this thread.
    1047 views. I guess I'm not alone.
Every few days my macbook pro quits recognizing the Time Capsule even
though it works fine for wireless internet.
Airport Utility doesn't see it either. Shared disk access, gone.
I found I can get things working again over wireless if I plug the computer
into the time capsule with a cable. When I plug it in the time capsule instantly
appears on the list of available backup devices in time machine settings.
If I do a backup and then disconnect the cable backup continues to work for
awhile. Then I need to connect again.
    Pretty silly bug.
When it works time machine and time capsule are great. We've used it to
    recover data very easily.
Wish the connection wasn't so flakey though.

  • Airport utlitiy cant find TIme Capsule

While looking for answers to my problem there are several here but none quite fit my problem. I just purchased an A1335 1tb time capsule and upon receiving it started to set it up. My macbook did not find it at first wirelessly till I hooked it up to an ethernet cable. I went through settings and tried to set it up only as wireless network for now seeing as I dont have DSL or cable internet at the moment. However after I finished it went to reset ans restart everything and then it came up with an error ans said now it cant find it all. SO I turned it off and restarted manually thinking it should at least see it. I cant get anything. and to top it off the machine is flashing some sort of error code and I have no way of telling what cause I cant find it. haha
I have even tried resetting it several times to no avail. ideas on what to do would be helpful other than mailing it back. thanks

We will try to adjust the settings on your Time Capsule first, without completely reconfiguring it, but that may be necessary if these steps do not work correctly.
Make sure that  you have an Ethernet cable connected from the modem to the WAN port (circle of dots icon) on the Time Capsule
Connect your spare Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule to your Mac
Restart the modem, the Time Capsule and the Mac
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
If you are able to access the settings of the Time Capsule, click the Internet icon and make sure that your settings look like this:
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update at the lower right of the window and the Time Capsule will restart in 25-30 seconds
Restart the Mac and leave the Ethernet cable connected for now. See if you can use your browser to get an Internet connection.
    Post back on your progress

  • Loss of Time Capsule connection to MacPro & MacPro Book.

My new Time Capsule is connected to a Mac Pro and MacPro Laptop all running latest OS.
After 2 months of correct back up performance both computers now fail to detect the back up drive. I must un plug the Time Capsule and de power it and the TP=Link modem, re boot both and await and then the computers will descorver the back up drive. They will do a regular back up for one or two hour cycles and then lose the path to the drive again.  To make a back up the process must be repeated.  Is the Time Capsule / Air Port defective and must be returned to Apple, or is there a fix to this annyoying problem.

What is amazing is not that you are having problems.. but how you managed to have it working for 2months without issues.. that is amazing.
Yosemite is a dog... total network dog.
Many people have the problem .. it is not likely to be the modem or the TC itself.. although it seems the combo of the TC and Yosemite is not a happy one.
Is the TC main network router or bridged??
If you are running PPPOE the Apple router may not be reliable so I need that info as well.
Here is the typical response I give.. since this is common issue.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
ie Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 and TCwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking. If the TC is main router it will not be an issue.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. but this change will mess up your TM backup.. so be prepared to do a new full backup. Sorry.. keep this one for second round if you want to avoid a new backup.
    5. Mount the TC disk in the computer manually.
In Finder, Go, Connect to server from the top menu,
Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever the TC ip is which you have now made static. As a router by default it is 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with that unless you know what you are doing).
You can use name.. SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your TC name.. local is the default domain of the TC and doesn't change.
However names are not so easy as IP address.. nor as reliable. At least not in Yosemite they aren't. The domain can also be an issue if you are not plugged or wireless directly to the TC.
    6. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
You might need to do some more work on the laptop itself. eg Reset the PRAM.. has helped some people. Clean install of the OS is also helpful if you upgrade installed.
    Tell us how you go.
Someone posted a solution.. See this thread.
Macbook can't find Time Capsule anymore

  • Time Capsule Connection Help Needed (Flashing Amber)

    Guys,
I've been trying to troubleshoot my Time Capsule connection for a week now and I have had zero luck.
I have a Imac with OSX 10.6.8  that uses AirPort v 5.6.1.  I have a Cat-5 (ethernet cable) plugged from my Time Capsule port (looks like this <-->) into an available port in my cable mode/router.  My Imac is also plugged into this router.  The two cat-5 (ethernet) cables are side by side.
    So....
Every time I plug in the Time Capsule I get the following prompt via AirPort.
AirPort Utility found a Time Capsule 802.11n (4th Generation) that is
    reporting problems.
Time Capsule's Name :  My Capsule
              IP Address: 10.0.1.1
              Versino: 7.6.1
              AirPort ID: 12:88:93:CC:FF:72
If this is not the AirPort wireless devise you want to setup you can select another from the list on the left. If you don't see it make sure.... Blah blah blah....
To make a long story tollerable I do see my Time Capsule on the left at the top. Its the only one and its selected by default.  So I do the next logical thing right?  I click "Continue" and AirPort reads the Time Capsule's configuration.... and then...... I get the error
An error occurred while reading the configuration.
Make sure your Apple Wi-Fi base station is plugged
in and in range of your computer or connected via
    Ethernet and try again. (-6753)
Can anyone help me understand why I can grab the Time Capsule's IP Address but AirPort can not read the hardware's (Time Capsule) config?
    I'm at a loss.
Could my ethernet cable be the issue?

    Hackintosh,
Thanks man... Yes, I plugged it into the circle symbol with no joy.  I also went to Wal Mart and baught a new seven foot cat-5 for $10.  Again I still have the flashing amber light.
After plugging in the ethernet cable into the circle icon port AirPort returns the following prompt.
I reset the TC (ball point pen to the reset hole untill fast blinking amber light occurs) and entered the needed params and it returns this error.
An error occured close the configuation window and try again.
It must be a config parameter that I'm setting incorrectly. There's a bunch so who knows what I'm doing wrong.
I just need the to talk to my Imac so i can get a backup executed. A wireless connection will take too long.
FYI: The cat-5 is brand new and is 100% functional (green light on the TC and router.)

  • Can use time capsule wifi but can't find time capsule in finder.

I have a 3TB time capsule that I bought about a month ago. I can use the WIFI but all of a sudden I can't find time capsule in finder. How do I locate it?
Thanks in advance for the help.

It is the Mavericks OS usually.
Try a simple reboot of the TC.. that is often enough. No luck..
Try a full network restart in correct order.. ie modem.. wait 2min.. TC .. wait 2min.. clients.
    No luck..
Manually mount the TC using Go, Connect to Server in Finder.
    Type in AFP://TCname.local or AFP://TCIPaddress
where you use the actual network name in place of the TCname.. ie not the name on the TC.. unless it is short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. which I do strongly advise. But its network name which is without spaces and no illegal characters which apple recommends you use.. eg apostrophe.
So Fred Blog's Airport Time Capsule is not the real network name.
It will become fred_blogs_airport_time_capsule which is a bad name still.
Easier use the IP, eg 10.0.1.1 for TCIPaddress.

  • My mac can't find time capsule, my mac can't find time capsule

my mac can't find time capsule, my mac can't find time capsule

I listed the commands.. that is how you manually mount the disk.. follow exactly the commands I gave you.
In finder use top menu, go, connect to server.
    Type in the following.
AFP://TCname or AFP://TCIpaddress (obviously you replace with the actual name or the actual IP address).
    If that fails..
    try
    SMB://TCname
    Here is the screenshot.
tardis4 being the name of my TC.
It should then ask you for your credentials.
And it should remember them in the keychain and be able to then get TM to connect.

    Excellent plan.
Can my network operate properly to extend the network with both a wireless and wired extend functionallity?
Yes, but don't get confused about the second AirPort Extreme, as it would not be configured to "extend" a wireless network.....it would be configured to "create a wireless network" using the same wireless network name, security settings and password as the Time Capsule network. Configure the second Extreme in Bridge Mode.
This Apple support document will show you how to hookup and configure the second AirPort Extreme:

The best software to do what you want, is not on a Mac. It is a router.. gargoyle.
You can keep using the TC as wifi source but get a router that can can take gargoyle firmware.. the best in my testing is netgear WNDR3700. Gargoyle itself is a free download.
    http://www.gargoyle-router.com/download.php
There are other routers and router boards it will work on.. but make sure you pick something compatible. I have used several different routers and the one above is the best so far.
