Firmware & Device Impression

Hello To All,
I have N73 with the latest Firmware.....my First Impression about it, it is a realy good
Firmware as well as the Device, and as for now didn't find a bug or something so thanks Nokia Developers...
although it would be nice to add these in the future Update :
- Flash 2.1 so we can play the .SWF since the version 1.1 doesn't supports so much of the .SWF Files around,
and this is really ugly.
- Screen Saver, why we cannot spcify an (.SWF File) to become a screen saver this is disappointed.
- Media Player, cannot figure out why we cannot change the (Play....etc) Buttons to take the theme Buttons.
- about Start Visualization, it is good but if it's played in the Visualization Area it would be better
as what is the use of that area anyway then if the screen go black it maximize it self.
- the finall thing is just a thought..... in the Idle Background under the clock,
there is toolbar Control for a shortcut programme it would be much nice if we can Customize those too
and if we add many shortcut i guess the scrollbar will do fine by adding two Arrow at the begining and the end so it goes two way.
I Would love to see these improvments in the future, and many thanks for this amazing piece of work.

Maps 3.0, N96, v30 Firmware, device reboots

Just upgraded to Maps R3 having had no issues with the beta versions, and having driven it hard (Pun intended).
Now, when using GPS navigation, the device reboots itself with no warning and no identifiable cause, except that I am using the GPS navigation features. usually it reboots after about 20-30 minutes of using navigation.
Any thoughts?
Device is an N96, V30 f/w, and I've checked for Maps updates recently. I'm using the UK maps, but also have France and US maps loaded as well (as I have planned trips).

Have you installed applications in your phone?If yes, maybe this cause the crashes.Uninstall all your apps, and do a reset.
Factory settings reset. In standby, dial *#7780# and the phone's security code (the nokia's default security code is 12345). This reset restores phone's original settings.
Soft reset. In standby dial *#7370# and the phone's security code (the Nokia's default security code is 12345). Soft reset deletes ALL your phone's data.

USB 3 Instability Issues - Windows 8.1 - Windows 8, The USB 3 Stack Is Unstable On Multiple PCs And Many Devices

The USB 3 stack is unstable in Windows 8.1 and Windows 8. I was hoping the upgrade to Windows 8.1 would improve the stability but no.
On two different motherboard systems I have had the same experience with 64 bit Windows 8 Pro and Windows 8.1 Pro compatibility with various USB 3.0 devices and hubs including:
An AFT PRO-57U front panel card-reader/hub, various Anker, Syba multiport hubs, and these are just a few I have tried, there are many more.
Symptoms are the same.
For example: the AFT PRO-57U slots are enumerated correctly as drive letters in Windows 8.1.
Then the drives (the PRO-57U slots) disappear, then reappear, then disappear, and reappear and so on. This happens consistently and the cycle time to disappear/reappear varies from 10 seconds to 10 minutes.
The Windows Device Manager shows the devices appearing and disappearing as enumerated devices. I have tried many trial and error methods to solve this, uninstalling and reinstalling USB motherboard drivers, different cables to the AFT PRO-57U device different
USB 3 ports for the devices and many more...
One of the hubs I bought specifically because it has the latest chip and firmware: Anker® USB 3.0 9-Port Hub + 5V 2.1A Smart Charging Port with 12V 5A Power Adapter [VIA VL812-B2 Chipset and updated Firmware 9081] This hub FAILs to enumerate some external
HDDs and other devices.
To troubleshoot I have tried many things:
I have disabled Windows Power Options, USB Selective Suspend.
I have disabled power options for each and every USB device in Windows Device Manager
I have uninstalled the Asus AI Suite 3 software and the issues remain.
I have tried BIOS settings for Legacy USB devices on and off and the issues remain.
I have tried BIOS setting for xHCI Mode - Auto, Smart Auto, On, Disabled
I have updated to the latest Intel chipset drivers 9.4.0.1026
I have all the latest BIOS, drivers, firmware, devices, - anything that is involved with the USB 3 stack.
Etc. etc. etc...
I have contacted Asus, Gigabyte Intel, AFT, Anker Syba, etc. and they are all finger pointing.
I have tried so many trial and error methods to solve the problem and I have run out of ideas.
It is clearly an unstable USB 3 stack and I am not sure who is responsible although I suspect Intel chipset drivers.
USB 2 is fine BTW. All devices work correctly when plugged into USB 2 ports.
From what I can tell, the entire USB 3 environment is a problematic P.O.S.
If anyone has any ideas I am willing to try anything I have not already tried.

Hey, I hope this helps you out a bit... I have had the same issue on my Asus K55A notebook with Win8.1 Pro x64 from the beginning! Thru my extensive research I found something interesting and the possible cause to all this! What I found was that by design
the xHCI Host Controller has virtual HS 2.0 Ports linked to the 3.0 Ports... Enabling compatibility with 2.0 devices ok... What happens is that the xHCI stack is unstable just like you say... The ONLY WAY I was able to fix the problem was by unlocking the
UEFI/BIOS to allow me full access to USB Configurations... I had to disable 2 of the HS ports under the xHCI Controller since I have only 2x 3.0 ports... This allowed 3.0 devices to be enumerated correctly under the xHCI stack and 2.0 devices now were enumerated
under the EHCI 2.0 stack... That's what worked in my case... I'm still digging around for more info about this issue because I find it so odd that no one discovered this when designing xHCI stacks and drivers at MS for Win8/8.1 x64... I hope I shed some light

How to unlock firmware for the Intex Cloud Fx (Spreadtrum sc6821 chipset)?

I was looking for an update for the past few months for my Intex Cloud Fx , which is up-to-date to 1.3
I then realized that a new version is under development (Firefox OS 2.0 unstable), still I am stuck with the same touch lagging operating system even though its stable.
It was hard for me to get the adb working without the android sdk installed ,by searching for the right driver for Spreadtrum sc6821 for windows. Once I paired it , the Webide worked fine with the phone and I enjoyed the app install experience!
My main censure is that I do not know how to install my own build of Firefox OS(OS currently in GitHub, code name Tarako Supported) without unlocking the firmware device(by the way the carrier is unlocked). Developers mentioned in the Firefox forum stating that, my device is firmware locked.
Here is the question, there are tools for the ZTE variants for unlocking the firmware but is there a tool for my device ?
I had googled couple of times and searched various forums but I could not find it!
There is no hope of my device getting an official update!
(Intex has a worse reputation as a Smartphone provider, still I bought it for the hopes of Firefox OS ecosystem )

I'm sorry to hear you are having problems with your Intex Cloud FX device. Unfortunately, version 2.0 and above are not compatible with your device due to the low memory specifications.
For information and questions on how and if you can update your device, please contact your phone's manufacturer who maintains the OS that runs on those phones.

What can I do if I installed the incorrect USB Debug kit, causing my mac to

After irresponisbly not heeding the warning given to me by Apple Developer Connection (http://developer.apple.com/hardwaredrivers/download/usbdebug.html) and installing the incorrect version of IOUSBFamily Debug Kit, my Mac OS X freezes upon starting up and my USB ports are completely unresponsive. That means no keyboard or mouse. I have booted in safe mode and reset the PRAM but to no avail. I still cannot move my mouse or use my keyboard. I do not have any other partitions on my mac or any firmware devices. Is there anything I can do?

Well I reinstalled Mac OS X and I have a folder in finder with everything from my previous system.
My mouse and keyboard work. There's something funny about the iPod though. I have pictures on it and when I plug it in, it begins to charge and iPhoto pops up asking me if I want to import photos from the iPod. However, the ipod doesn't show up in either iTunes or Finder.

Sleep crash causes loss of firewire

I have been reading many topics on this forum concerning sleep related problems with the intel 24" imac. I find it difficult to put the computer to sleep manually, although it will sleep according to the power saver prefs.
My imac is only 4 weeks old, and almost daily will lock up when trying to wake it from sleep. Pressing power button will turn it off, and when rebooted, my firewire ports are not working. this can be verified by looking in system profiler on the firewire tab which does not list maximum speed available for fire wire which it would do normally normally.
Resetting the SMC will bring the firewire ports back, but I leave the power cable unplugged overnight, and by the morning restart all seems to be fine, until next time it locks up from sleep.
I have installed the firmware update successfully, but it has not helped with this problem.
I would be interested to hear of anyone else with missing fire wire ports, and if there is a fix , or do we have to wait for apple to come up with a fix. I am reluctant to take my machine to the dealer for repair, as I need it daily, and I feel it may be a firmware/software fix. Calls to the Apple support line didn't shed any light on the problem.

Before taking it back to the store I know it's a pain but it would be worth doing a clean reinstall of the OS and an update to 10.4.8 using the Combo update. Don't forget to backup your data.
You don't need to do anything but the basics i:e don't transfer data back from your backup etc just get it to operate with 1 admin user account - simple stuff
Then test it for sleep and waking etc. as before with nothing connected. If its OK then reload / connect things one at a time, if not you have done as much as you can and you can tell the store that.
I was a hardware techie in one former life before Apple Computer Inc came into being and this could be a case of the Firmware device not working to spec or even as simple as a faulty solder joint on the mother board. For either of these they should replace the motherboard but I would push for a replacement machine, reading similar posts that's what other folks have got.
I had a G3 iMac motherboard fail just out of the 3yr AppleCare period and that cost me big money so don't put up with it.

No video connection with iChat AV

Hi everyone,
The same as many people here I've had a long standing problem getting iChatAV to connect to video chats.
When trying to connect I receive the following error:
"There was a communication error during your chat"
Also says I failed to respond
I've been through the threads a million times and tried many of the suggestions from the legendary Ralph but nothing has worked. This setup used to work perfectly once, then something changed. I've attempted to solve this in the past then given up - but now my wife and I are due a baby and are desperately wanting to get it working again so we can stay in touch with her parents in Australia.

No Matter. Port forward (NAPT) as many port as you can to the IP the Airport has (you can see this on the Speedtouch pages) You can in fact set the DHCP Lease time to Infinity on this device (Saves going Static to the Airport and having to set the Airport up further)
Leave the Airport device Distributing Addresses (DHCP) to your computer.
LATE EDIT: Just remembered you need to download the Installer or have access to the Original CD for the Installer to Navigate to the downloaded file on your hard drive.

Still photos disappear from video

I am just learning Premiere Elements for a newspaper where I work and designed a 4-minute video in which I dropped into the Timeline in 2 different place a series of four still photos. When I re-opened the file this morning, all the photos were missing from the timeline (the rest of the video was fine). In adding the photos through the 'Get Media' tab should the program not have added them for good or are the photos as they show in the Premiere Elements Project pointing to files on my desktop? In that case, perhaps I moved the original photo file folder? Does that original folder need to remain in one place for the life of the project? I may have uploaded the stills from a file in my paper's Staging area that is purged the following day.

I found that the FLV played fine on my cable-modem connection (via my wireless g to my laptop). Now, for faster Export, you might weigh the lower connection speeds vs the resulting quality. Personally, I err on the side of quality, until the Webmaster starts complaining that too many users are still on dial-up, but that's just me.
Now, I was listening on the laptop on the patio (not the most critical listening environment, or method), but found nothing objectionable. The overall Audio levels might be a bit low, but at least should not blow speakers, if users have the volume set to max - unlike some music videos. The lack of an external mic connection is a big drawback, even on some higher-end video cameras.
I also found the result quite good. My wife has the G-10, but has never used it as a video capture device - impressive in your use.
The subject and location were interesting, as well. It's been far too long since I hiked the New River and surrounding areas.

WDTV Live Plus and Time Capsule

I just got a WDTV Live Plus and I love it. The only problem is that I see the Apple Time Capsule and iMAC right away in the network shares, but I cannot get on them. I wanted to see what the issue could be. When I click them I am prompted for an account and PW. I put that in and after it thinks for a little bit I am given an error message that says "there are no supported files" or something like that. I am thinking about attaching some external size via USB but I want to make sure it can work first.

SMB is windows networking standard.. It has limitations on name length.. so keep to no more than 12characters.. that is less than max.. from memory 20.. but use short names.. ie name of the Time Capsule.. TC.
SMB does not like names with spaces.. Apple by default uses spaces.. get rid of spaces.
And SMB does not like certain non-alphanumeric characters. Apostrophe is one of them. Apple wizard sets up the TC with your name.. eg Fred's Time Capsule.. all hopelessly wrong. From an SMB viewpoint.. and since Windows still rules the world.. and everything works on SMB.. including Apple.. and including Linux which both use SAMBA.. the linux version of SMB protocol. And therefore of course the WDTV Live which is Linux firmware device.
You change the name in the airport utility from a computer.
eg.
So change the wireless name.. TC name and hard disk name.. so everything follows the rules.

Anyone tryed SR-IOV on hp proliant dl360/dl380p gen9?

hello everyone
im using hp proliant dl360p Gen 8 with hp 366FLR (i350-T4 oem) and works fine (Hyper-V)
but, in case of dl360/dl380p Gen9 platform 366FLR's SR-IOV does not working.
(dl360 gen9 has hp 331i, known as intergrated nic/broadcom and i added hp 366flr-4port with FlexLOM)
the issue is...
all VM HOST/VSWITCH/GUEST settings are fine (yes. i did checked it with GEN8 and GEN9)
but GEN9's vm guest could not connect with SR-IOV.
if, i have SR-IOV disable on GEN'9's VM Config. network is working fine (but, can not use sr-iov)i have tested 3 more dl360p gen9 servers (updated firmware, bios (1.40), nic firmware, device driver, applyed spp) and same issues
and windows server 2012 r2 and windows server 2012 (r1) also...
in my opinion, this is not about configrations. hardware related problems i think.
i have contact to hp and intel, hp does not...

Do you mean that any other hosts can access the network resource normally except these VMs ?
If yes , my suggestion is to disable the VMQ on the physical NIC for the VMs , then try test again .

Problems with rovi guide

I have a KDL46NX720 and have in general been happy/successful using the rovi guide. Occasionally the guide comes up with no channel data but I have reliably been able to remedy that by: 1) Doing a Factory Reset2) selecting "update tv listings" in the guide settings This past week, the guide came up with no data and I followed my above procedure as usual. Now however, when I try to "update tv listings" in the guide, it says "in progress" for about 30 seconds (but shows no progress loading ) and then pops up a message that says "no connection message", "the internet connection is not available". When I run the TV internal diagnostics on my internet connection, it says the connection is fine. Also I am able to view streaming content for Netflix, Amazon etc. so its pretty clear my internet connection is fine. How should I proceed? Thanks.

I have learned the status of this issue from the Sony Technical Support team.Unfortunately, ROVI has pulled the plug on ALL Sony TV's for use of the ROVI Electronic Program Guide!This upsets me quite a lot, as this feature was one of the major factors in my ourchase of this TV. Now it sits therewith this useless Firmware/device, a guide button on my remote and the menu which used to display guide information completely useless!! Very upsetting. Elitebook 8460p – Bluetooth "No Divice ID is given"

How to Fix this problem? Bluetooth Driver was successfully installed. Upon Audio connecting from my Cellphone through my Laptop Computer it cant connect, when im clicking the phone icon it shows “No Divice ID is given” error. I also tried to send files from Computer to Laptop and its run normally.I want to play music from my phone through my computer. I already try to search on the internet but I cant find best result to fix my problem. Someone can help me? Thanks ^^,

AT version 4.0.x.x I don't think you have the Tabs and therefore no UPnP as in these pics also on my site.
No Matter. Port forward (NAPT) as many port as you can to the IP the Airport has (you can see this on the Speedtouch pages) You can in fact set the DHCP Lease time to Infinity on this device (Saves going Static to the Airport and having to set the Airport up further)
Leave the Airport device Distributing Addresses (DHCP) to your computer.
LATE EDIT: Just remembered you need to download the Installer or have access to the Original CD for the Installer to Navigate to the downloaded file on your hard drive.

No updatable devices found after firmware update

Unfortunately I didn't check here before doing the latest updates. I dl'd the following on the night of July 1:
2007-07-01 01:49:08 -0400: Installed "SuperDrive Firmware Update" (2.1)
2007-07-01 01:49:31 -0400: Installed "iTunes" (7.3)
2007-07-01 01:49:35 -0400: Installed "Safari 3 Beta Update" (3.0.2)
2007-07-01 01:53:02 -0400: Installed "Mac OS X Update (Intel)" (10.4.10)
2007-07-03 00:30:01 -0400: Installed "Audio Update 2007-001" (1.0)
Since then each time I restart the computer the SuperDrive Update launches and tells me no updatable devices have been found. But this machine has a SD, unless I'm very much mistaken. Why won't the update take? Is it related to the ex HD issues I've been reading about here with 10.4.10?
I also just looked at my sys log and it could be its own novel since these updates. I was going to post it in hopes it would help the Mac guys smarter than I, but I think it would flood out this post.
I am also having the internet drop issue, again only when I'm on battery power, but I understand that's a bigger issue than just my machine. My Safari windows seem to be hanging and giving me the spinning beach-ball a lot when I try to scroll.
I ran disk repair on permissions, that's all sorted out. I don't know what else to do to resolve the firmware update. Please help. Thanks!

At the risk of sounding stupid.. how would I delete the download?
And if I have a SuperDrive, which I do, why wouldn't the update apply to me and why would Software Updater have prompted me to download it in the first place?

This means that the phone you have was software unlocked to use on any carrier, or hacked. When you installed the update it restored the lock that originaly came with your phone. Not much you can do now. Apple will not support hacked phones. You will need to find out the carrier your phone is locked to and see if they offer official unlocking, or start googling to see if you can find a way to unlock 4.2.

Firmware Updates in North America (NAM devices) - ...

After reading the UK campaign for equality post - I thought I'd start one for us North American folks.
As a loyal (but now beginning to waver) owner of Nokia devices since 1998.. it's always been a sad state of affairs in terms of upgrades, and getting new devices, especially compared to the rest of the world, PERIOD.
While I realize that our phones may require a slightly different chipset because of the odd ball frequencies that our areas use - there is no sane or logical reason why we get shafted on model firmware updates otherwise. While I do not have a hardware engineering degree - I cannot see why the primary functions of firmware updates cannot be easily ported over to the NAM versons of Nokia phones.
While a lot of you out there have valid complaints (like the UK) in release time - and do eventually get them. We in the NAM market have been consistently.. well, screwed, is the only way that I can think of it. I have consistently made it a point to buy Unlocked and unbranded devices DIRECTLY from Nokia USA so that I can have flexibility and know that I will eventyally, hopefully,get some sort of update.
With all the new N and E series devices that I have owned - N95-3, N85-3, E75-2, E65, N79 come to mind - we have been consistently, and systematically been delayed as candidates for firmware releases. Example: N95-3 - The was launched as a FLAGSHIP device. All OTHER versions of the N95 got and received a v30 upgrade - the n95-3 didn't even get it as a possibility until almost 7 months later!!! E75 - a lot of you got the v200 upgrade and things work perfectly - I should know - I have a friend who has a E75-1 handset, and we compare notes and see how sad and slow my device is! We're still on v110! N85 - the same way, MONTHS later. It goes on and on.
I mean, if you're NOT going to support a device - that's fine - just TELL us upfront. Don't tease us with versions of firmware for other practically identical devices - and then have your North American support counter parts completely clueless as to any news whatsoever. If you're not going to support the product with firmware updates - just tell me, and I'll make my decisions to purchase, or not, accordingly.At least with other mobile manufacturers - I know there is a set steady time frame of support and so on.
What's even worse than the tease with the other versions of firmware, is the NokiaUSA site itself. You go there, and you see that OH - hey! There's apparently a new version of firmware available for my device on the 'pretty' pages that allow you to select your device. *BUT* whenever you type in a NAM device code on the actual check page - it's never available at the same time as the rest of the family of devices. Heck, we're lucky if we are only 1 revision behind for most, if not all, devices! If you're not going to give us the updates - then make sure your localized website doesn't even mention it! This false hope is the worst wound of all!
And yes, I do realize that Nokia does not have the market share in the NAM market as it would like - but helping us 1st adopters to have wonderful working devices is probably your best form of advertising to people who've never even seen the devices before! I don't know how many of my friends and colleagues have bought Nokia devices because they see how well they CAN work as compared to what they are used to! You want market share? well, help us, to help you!
North American users please chime in and add kudos to this if you feel the same way!

I want to help you. So do all the other customers on this site. The 5800 is the best phone on the market, but it needs the updated firmware (v.4) in NAM as soon as poosible.
Other suggestions (places you are doing well and need help).
Doing well - maps (on-device with GPS is much much better solution than wireless network based only - MARKET this fact, where is the advertising??) and push e-mail. You should make the push e-mail free for life on your smartphones, like you did with maps (then market along with free mapping). This would eliminate Android and Blackberry given the technology and price point.
Need more work - ease of set-up, user interface, music, and apps. All of these need to be improved to take on Apple. It took two full days to set up my phone (before installing music). That is way too long. Everything is convoluted, like it was developed on Mars. This could be one CD that comes with the phone and make everthing easy, or just pre-loaded so you can turn-on and go. The touch screen user interface is ok, but could be much better (more homescreen choices, etc.) Regarding music, don't try to sell, just make a simple pass-through that works well, leave selling (or sharing) music to others. (maybe buy MediaMonkey and incorporate to have a good universal music management program) Regarding apps, this is moving in the right direction, but you need to do more. More apps, make them free, and partner like crazy with media companies, U.S. universities (who are developing for all other smartphones except Nokia through Blackboard, etc.), and any other company/organization that has a cool app. This is the sizzle, which in the U.S. sells more than the steak.
