Flash Area is 80% filled

Question

Hi All
Today morning we have upgraded one productions database from 9.2.0.7 to 10.2.0.4 on solaris 64 bit and configured the flashback area
suddenly the flash area has been grown to 80% can any one please tell me how to reduce this flash area size .
If i take the rman backup is it going to be reduced?? or i have do some other steps
Flash back Mount point size is 25G
Flash area size give is 23G
now it is 80% full
Retention is 1440

Thank you for your reply
I have removed some the archivelogs manually to freeup the space
and i have executed your commands but still it is throwing some errors in alert log.

because of insufficient space in the flash recovery area.
Flashback will continue to use available space, but the
size of the flash recovery area must be increased to meet

Use ALTER SYSTEM SET db_recovery_file_dest_size command
to add space. DO NOT manually remove flashback log files
to create space.
