Flash MX2004 not compatable with Flash CS5?
I have Flash MX2004 but find when trying to open a flash file created using Flash
CS5, the file wiill not open and give me an error ' Unsupported
file fotrmat'. Please explainflash mx2004 is very old. it has no way of knowing what to do with a file that is created in cs5 or aka flash mx2010

Flash MX2004 version 7.2
I was considering upgrading rather than buying a new Flash package. I have Flash MX 2004 version 7.2. I bought this probably about 4 years ago.
I'm afraid the website confuses me too much and I can't work out whether I am eligible to just buy the £159 upgrade or not?
Also I now have a Macbook which runs Mac OS 10.5.6. I also wondered about that.
Can anyone help? I'm not even sure this is posted in the right section of the forum!"Itunes cannot run It has detected a problem with your audio configuration"
if you're getting that message, see the following document:

Flash MX2004 - Disappearing Images
I am having a problem with images disappearing from the
library (and therefore from the stage/movie). Hopefully someone can
help me.
Here's what is happening: I imported several (~20) jpgs to
the library (bitmap properties: allow smoothing, jpeg compression,
use imported jpeg data) - then convert to symbol (graphic). I use
the symbol (graphic) in the movie, not the bitmap. Everything seems
to work ok and I save and close my file (.fla). Then, when I open
the file again, images randomly disappear from the library (both
the bitmap and the symbol). The places in the movie where I had
instances of the image, are now blank with the circle in the middle
of where the image was and the crosshair in the upper left of where
the image was supposed.
My naming convention - All bitmaps begin with bmp_. All
graphics begin with gfx_. There are no spaces in the image name...
I use the underscore _ when I need to separate words in the image
name.
I've used motion tweening on all of the graphics - the ones
that disappeared and also on the ones that are still there.
I've checked the properties of the disappeared images - and
the alpha is not changed to 0... I did not lock the W/H/X/Y.
The images that disappeared are not all on the same scene.
I don't know what is causing this... and I'm about to pull my
hair out trying to figure it out!! Any ideas?
Thanks for helping.bai1ey;
Never seen such a thing, butcheck to be certain that the
images are
"flash import compatable" (non-progressive, rgb--simple flat
jpegs).
Alternatively you might try importing pngs and do the jpeg
compression in
flash. -Tom Unger -
Flash MX2004..flashlight or spotlight effect with extra effect
HI..I'm trying to make a flashlight effect that automatically (not mouse controlled) goes over the text and image (all on the image) and then
have the flashlight beam fade then open completely to the 900x400 image and stay visible...
Appreciate your time and suggestions..
Thanks! If I'm understanding this right, you want the whole stage to be dark except for the flashlight? If so, make a new layer above everything else, and make a large black object covering the stage. Then create a layer below that, make it a mask layer, and draw a circle. The color of the circle doesn't matter. If done right, it should create a spotlight effect revealing whatever is under the black area inside the circle. You can also change the opacity and make the circle a gradient if you want the edges of the light to fade out. Simply animate the mask object (the circle) to move/grow/etc how you want it to act within the movie and you should be fine. Hope this helps.
If you just get a black circle moving around instead of the light effect, move the mask one more layer down and I think that should fix it. Don't have flash open at the moment, but if memory serves me correctly that should do the trick. -
Flash MX2004 Loader Component Question
Hi all,
I have a question regarding the loader component that ships
with Flash MX 2004. I am using the component to load .swf files. As
far as I can tell, the component will not begin to play a .swf file
until it is 100% loaded. Is this correct? If not, is there any way
to make it play as it is downloading? This IS possible with the
MovieClipLoader class but I currently have a complex application
built using the loader component.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.
Additionally, I could extend the class if anyone can point me in
the direction of what would need to be changed in the class.
Thanks,
JohnI'm only trying to interpret what that message is telling me in this response. It seems to be indicating that you have some object in the library that you have named "calLoader" and assigned it a linkage ID of Loader (possibly by default) as well as another object in the library named myLoader that has the same linkage ID (possibly by default).
If these two objects are the same component type, then you only need one of them in the library. The different naming of them can be managed on the stage. -
Importing video into Flash MX2004
Hi
I've not worked with video before, but now have a requirement
to use a video clip in a Flash movie. I have found a royalty free
movie clip which is perfect, but would need to work over the top of
this file to add some bits to the movie.
My question is this, if I purchase the movie and import it
into Flash, does it come in frame-for-frame on the timeline so that
I can add layers and work over the top of it? I know that video
tends to create large files - once it's in Flash and published as a
swf file, presumably it should be more manageable?
Many thanks for any help.HamptonCaught wrote:

It won't be frame by frame, it will be its own format
stretching across timeline
to covert the length of its frames.

Resizing a movie loaded with loadMovie()
I'm looking to resize a movie that was loaded with
loadMovie() into a movie clip. Once it's finished playing I want it
to reduce down in size. Any ideas?
loadMovie("test.swf",main_Movie);
main_Movie is the empty movie clip, its a simple rectangle
that is 550 x 400 so it fills the whole stage.
Any ideas, or if you need more info please let me know.
RobRob-
You can scale movie clips by a percentage or resize by
directly manipulating the width and height values.
main_Movie._xscale = 50; //scale width by 50%
-or-
main_Movie._width = 20; //set width to 20 pixels
For more information check:

I hope that helps.

Beware of Zoomify and Flash CS3!
Does anyone else have problems getting
Zoomifyer for Flash to work in Flash CS3 on Mac OSX?
Everytime I launch the Component Inspector in the Zoomify Viewer
Component I get an alert saying: "Reference Error ZoomifyFileAPI is
not defined". This is one of several JavaScript errors and alerts
that frequently launch. I emailed [email protected] but so far no
reply.
Am really annoyed for three reasons:
1. Paid 129 USD for it
2. It is for client work!
3. Zoomify have as yet to respondI have the same problem. (on Flash CS3 OS X) Bought it
yesterday for a project. Expected to get documentation with the
download. No response from support. I installed the component in
Flash MX2004 and get this error : ZoomifyFileAPI.fileExists is not
a function when opening the component inspector... At least I was
able to enter paths and get a first etst going.
Overall it looks buggy... and abandoned. Too bad. I like the
samples I've seen and I think there is a lot of potential for
development. -
Saving Flash 7 SWF created in Flash 8
I understand from experience that viewing Flash 8 SWF files
on the Flash 7 Player results in text not showing up. The Flash 8
text is obviously superior, but unfortunately, a major contingent
of my viewers are too afraid, too naive, or their systems are too
messed up to upgrade their Flash Players from earlier versions.
Obviously, to solve the problem, I can save the SWF as Flash 7
backward compatible; however, I am more than disappointed with the
results of this solution. The main problems with this approach is
that the text looks week and the bitmap alignment is no longer
perfect when trying to intermingle my flash content with existing
background content.
Please someone help me with a better solution by providing me
with a list of parameters that need to be in place so that my Flash
7 files created in Flash 8 look more presentable.> Peter, as for a list of parameters, I mean precisely
what options should

There seems to be come confusion here. It's not a matter of
'checking off'
options, rather of publish settings. In the 'Publish
Settings' dialogue,
under the 'Flash' tab, 'Version', select 'Flash Player 7'.
the important
thing is not to use any *features* that depend on Flash
Player 8 - these
include (but are not limited to!) filters, any of the new
text rendering
options (custom anti-alias), any of the new Classes (geom,
filters, display,
external) etc etc etc.

Again, you are a bit confused I think. Obviously they will be
different than
if published for FP8 - that wasn't my point. What I said was:

So, using Flash 8 to author but publishing for FP7 will look
the same as
using Flash MX2004 ('Flash 7') to create your content. You
are saying your
bitmaps shrink "compared to when exported normally in Flash
8" - I never
mentioned publishing for Flash 8.

Well yes, of course. You said it yourself - you have exported
for FP7 -
playing it in FP8 won;t magically make it look better! For
that, you would
have to *publish* for FP8.

I searched alot for this, but it does not seem to happen to
anyone. Can somebody help me? Thanks. No, PSE 6 and later never displays an icon for a sub-category. If you accidentally created a sub-category where a leaf keyword tag will do, change the sub-category to a keyword tag by right-clicking it, and then you'll be able to assign an icon. But if you change the keyword tag back to a sub-category, the icon will disappear.
None of that design seems very well thought out. -
