FMS on AWS - dvrcast_origin

I followed the tutorial at http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flashmediaserver/amazonec2/WS6fc2df2b6d2ce24359910e2812c396a83 eb-7ff8.html#WS6fc2df2b6d2ce24359910e2812c396a83eb-7ff6 (that hugely long URL points to "Adobe Flash Media Server 4.0 * Tutorials: on-demand and live streaming"), especially the section titled Live streaming with DVR. Basically I've done the following:
Started an AWS instance with the FMS AMI and attached an elastic IP
Downloaded the dvrcast_origin application and copied it to /mnt/applications
Edited my /etc/hosts to point "fms1" to the AWS instance IP address
Configured FMLE to stream to rtmp://fms1/dvrcast_origin with a stream name of dan, checked the DVR Auto Record checkbox, and started a stream running
Gone to http://www.osmf.org/configurator/fmp/# and configured a basic player, and verified that I can view the live stream
Clicked on the Advanced tab and select Stream Type of DVR, then clicked Preview
Received an error message stating "We are unable to connect to the network. We apologize for the inconvenience."
Stopped the live stream and verified that no /mnt/applications/dvrcast_origin/streams directory exists
My understanding that with the FMS config described in the tutorial, and with "DVR Auto Record" checked in FMS, I should find an archive file built from my live stream. That doesn't appear to be happening. Since I'm brand new to FMS I assume I'm just overlooking something simple. Suggestions?

Hi,
Thanks for using the AMI-FMS.
On the first look, it looks like permission issues on the folder, when you copied the dvrcast_origin, did you make sure that it has write access ? Can you please confirm ?
I assume FMLE started publishing and has no errors. Also , please check the logs, they should be under /mnt/logs and see if there is anything related to recording that is looking odd.

  • RTMP pricing for FMS on AWS

We'd like to port our FMS app over to AWS, and FMS on AWS looks like the way to do that, but the only pricing I can find (here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/amazonwebservices/) is based on RTMFP connections.  Since we only use RTMP, how would our costs be determined?  Thanks.

FMS on AWS was primararily meant for using RTMFP as not everyone could afford Enterprise Edition. But nothing stops you from using RTMP on AWS. You can choose any of instances which suits your requirement and can use RTMP.

  • How to setup and install FMS on AWS after purchase?

After cpompleteing the purchace of FMS hosted on AWS I did not recieve any instructionb email on how to setup this application on an existing instance or better yet create a new instance dedicated to the FMS.I got as far as generating the key after purchase , however when I click go to app.... the link simply takes me to the Adobe / Amazon promo page for hosted FMS.
    Can anyone help????
    Thank You!
    A howto would be great!

I just came across your answer to OKB Mr. sabretooth04, or HP expert!!! OKB, necessarily does not mean zero space left on a hard drive.  Indeed 99% of times, it means that the software that One is trying to download, is outdated and is not compatible with the system that one is running. Thus the hard drive refuses to download the current software for its running program.  And can only be resolved via the software producer.  Meaning; one needs to contact the software company to find out if there are any new patches that can accomodate the download to become compatible with the running program.

  • FMS on Amazon Web Services License. Does it need enter License(Serial Key)?

FMS on Amazon Web Services License. Does it need enter License(Serial Key)?
After Subscribe on adobe.com(Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5 on Amazon Web Services)
I build the Amazon EC2 successfully.
In amazonpayments, the amazon show me an Activation Key.
    On  Application Activation:
The screen give me following information.
    Generate an Amazon Activation Key
An activation key may be required as part of an application's registration process. If your application requires it, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Click on the Generate Key link to generate an activation key for an application.
Step 2: Copy the activation key.
Step 3: Click on Go to Application to access the application.
Step 4: Paste the activation key if and where the application specifies.
But in Adobe Flash Media Administration console, It is missing the License(Serial Key)
Does it need enter License(Serial Key)?
How can I use the  Activation Key?

    Hi,
This Activation Key is only for identification purposes. In most cases, you will not have to use it. Once you subscribe to FMS on AWS, you are ready to go and use FMS AMI's.
Also, FMS on AWS does NOT require any License or Key. It works on a separate Licensing model.
    Thanks!

  • FMS on AMS

    Hello All,
I purchased FMS 4.5 for Amazon web services (AWS)  but there is no Amazon Machine Images for this verison. When I purchase the AMS verison of FMS 4.5 it comes with a licence key and it haves a generate to generate more keys. However when I install FMS it tells me that my key is invalid. The only download I get is the devleoper download but the key does not work for it... Has anyone encourter this and have a solution to this.
The only machine images available is the FMS 3.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Please be informed that FMS 4.5 is still not available on AWS. The latest release you have access to, is 4.0.3. Once you subscribe to FMS services, you will be able to create instances of the same. No additional downloads are required. Please make sure that you are subscribed to FMS on AWS by hitting this: https://aws-portal.amazon.com/gp/aws/user/activation/index.html
    Thanks!

  • FMS RTMFP with Amazon WebServices

    Hi,
I hope someone can help me to solve my problem although this isn't the Amazon EC2 forum
I managed to run the FMS on an EC2 instance and I am able to use admin console. So I think I can say, that the server is running. Now I want to connect to the multicast application, which is delivered with the FMS as an example, via RTMFP. I can't get it to work... With an FMS 4.5 development server I didn't experience such problems. It seems to be a problem with the AWS. It might be, that I missed something to configure. But what? Does anyone have experiences with FMS and AWS?

May be you have not opened ports needed for RTMFP in your Security Group settings - open them up and try again,

  • Applications on AWS

I subscribe to AWS EC2 for Flash Media Server. I understand how to stream vod. I would like to host applications streaming video and audio, but I do not understand how to make this work on AWS.
I am able to copy media content into a new directory under applications on FMS. I can create main.asc in the directory under applications. However, I am unable to access the administration console in order to manage the application. I am able to set the username and password for the admin console within fms.ini in the opt/adobe/fms/config directory, but I do not understand how to restart the admin server from the AWS Management Console in order to have those username/password pair take effect.
I have never done this before, so I am not even sure that accessing the admin console is a necessary part of creating an application for FMS, but the tutorials I have seen do include steps performed in the admin console. I have not found any tutorials on configuring an application for FMS on AWS.
Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Navigate to /opt/adobe/fms in any terminal of your putty session & then run simple command as below:  ./adminserver restart  You might have to open 1111 or the port which you have configured as admin server port in fms configuration in your security group

  • Live Stream connection limit per server

I Need to Broadcast 20,000 to 40,000 Live Streams.! (Bitrate : 128Kbps / Viewers Per Stream Apprx-10 Server : Adobe FMS Server Amazon EC2 Instance - Bandwidth Apprx 100mbps)
    My Question is
    1. How Many Concurrent connections Possible for one Adobe FMS Server? (Amazon EC2 Instance)
    2. is this possible to use RTMFP for this process? (20,000 Connections Via Amazon Adobe FMS Server EC2 Instance )
    3. if Possible Over RTMFP then How Many Developer Keys Need for this Operation. (or) Pricing Details for the Developer Key. (or) Any Separate Key[s] Available For Amazon EC2 Instance?
    Thanks
    Sarma

    1.  Looking at your stream specs - its like  128 X 10 ~ around 1 Mbps for one stream considering 10 clients. And considering bandwidth of 100 mbps for instance you can support around 1000 clients. But few things i want to know before we can conlude on figures - what is NIC capacity of the instance.
    2. Yes if you using FMS on AWS offering - you can use RTMFP
    3. You don't need developer keys if you are using FMS on AWS offering to use RTMFP

  • AWS for FMS 4 = Unreliable

    Hi,
I purchased an instance of AWS for FMS 4, and it is very un-reliable.
A few times a week, the server will go down, and you need to reboot the server to make it work.
When it was going down, the load on the server was much lower than what it should be capable of supporting.
Expect your applications to go down for many hours, or days, in case it takes you a while to notice the down time!
Anything to do to improve this ****?

Yup... that's how it goes in shared virtualized environments. The problem there is, you won't know why the server went down... could have been you, could have been your neighbor, could have been cheap commodity hardware crapping out.
As much as AWS is great for backup and noncritical apps, it is, IMHO, not suitable for any critical production environment. The best answer to your question is to get your own dedicated hardware in a reliable datacenter with immediate response monitoring.

  • AWS FMS-enterprise setup

Ok, it has gone a while since ive created a AWS account for to get hold of FMSE services....
but i have a big and probably dumb question, how do i set up a instance at AWS ?
I am particulary interested in Netgroup in FMS. Ive searched like a maniac and read  like librarian but ive found no info that makes it clear for me how o i setup a server instance and how i connect my AIR app to it so i can use NetGroups...
Any help, any guidance that is easy to understand is higly appreciated!!!!!
Really need help on this one!
    Thanx in advance

This whole process starts to annoy me.
    First,
    DONE = subscribe at Adobe
DONE = redirected to amazon to create a account and get a acitvation key (see attachment)
when clicking on the Click link in hte yellow bar, i come to billing, and there after some steps im back at adobe.
Seriously, come on what is this cat-mouse game ?
So, ok after hitting get started on Adobe (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flashmediaserver/amazonec2/WS6fc2df2b6d2ce24359910e2812c396a83 eb-7fff.html) i was supposed to look up Community AMI id which could be used, and when searching for those 2 i found nothing.
Im really mad at Adobe now since they seem to be responsible for this service at Amazon, and the documentation is like a usual newspaper, you dont get smarter nor dummer.
in my opinion, documentations CAN NOT be written in a way that only advanced users understand. Now Amazon is billing me for a freaking service that i even dont use !?!?
Sorry for the hard  tone over here but i really think this is a scam. To get started with one or another  service/technology offered by Adobe, you find many good walkies and tutorials, but not here!
    The attachment
and after clicking the link in yellow bar im back at amazon where another link saying "Activate application" takes me back to adobe...

  • Streaming for Android devices using Amazon AWS and Adobe FMS 4.5

I have created a live stream using Amazon Web Services and Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5.
AWS provides me with both a .f4m and .m3u8 file, to use in  <object><embed> and  <video> tags, respectively.
The .f4m loads fine on my desktop browser, and the .m3u8 file loads fine on my iOS device. However, my Android devices will not load either file.
What code/solutions are there to get this to play on Android devices?
My current .f4m code (retrieved from http://www.osmf.org/configurator/fmp):
    <object width="600" height="409">
        <param name="movie" value="http://fpdownload.adobe.com/strobe/FlashMediaPlayback_101.swf"></param>
        <param name="flashvars" value="src=http%3A%2F%2F<myinfo>.cloudfront.net%2Fhds-live%2Flivepkgr%2F_definst_%2Flivee vent%2Flivestream.f4m"></param>
        <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param>
        <embed src="http://fpdownload.adobe.com/strobe/FlashMediaPlayback_101.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always"
                    allowfullscreen="true" width="600" height="409" flashvars="src=http%3A%2F%2F<myinfo>.cloudfront.net%2Fhds-live%2Flivepkgr%2F_definst_%2Fl iveevent%2Flivestream.f4m">
        </embed>
    </object>
    My current .m3u8 code:
    <video src="http://myinfo>.cloudfront.net/hls-live/livepkgr/_definst_/liveevent/livestream.m3u8" height="300" width="400"> </video>

Few additional things which I just came across while setting up for live stream on my Android from AWS are as follows:
    1. for the first time when I tried to run the live stream on my android app, it didnt run at all and I thought your concerns are valid for an instance :-) .
    2. Later, I killed the application from task manager, restarted it cleanly and again provided the url and it streamed without issues.
    Please also ensure that:
    - You had put a crossdomain.xml file under <fmsinstalldirectory>/webroot folder.
    - You have provided the correct stream name in the <media> tag in Manifest.xml file inside <fmsinstalldirectory>/livepkgr/events/_definst_/liveevent folder
(hopefully you have done it since you are already playing it on PC)
You may also like to cehck the apache logs inside <fmsinstalldirectory>/Apache2.2/logs/access_logs folder to find whether your Android device request is reaching to the server.
Hope these steps will help you in osloating the problem.

    Shiraz Anwar

  • Amazon AWS FMS - missing license key?

I have set up an Amazon AMI FMS instance which is working fine - but is behaving like a development edition.
When launching instances of my app from the Administration Console, I can only launch 5 or 6. After this, I see the instance name in the list, but in LiveLog there are no trace statements, and no log file is produced for that instance. It looks to me very much like I just ran out of NetConnections, as each instance needs to create proxy NetConnections to another app on the same server.
I ported this app straight from one of my own (Win98) FMS3.0 installations. I'm running the Administration Console remotely from the Win server.
I'm pretty used to the conf structure and files, and have checked several times. Maybe there's a new setting in 4.0, or maybe I'm just missing a license key...

    Thank you!
I managed to resolve it. My app was built on FMS3.0, and when I ran it on FMS4.0 only 3 instances would start up. So I rebuilt the Application.xml from the template in the FMS4.0 conf, setting  the process scope to app, and distributing over instances. All working fine now.
    Still a great product.

  • Trouble Connecting to FMS in the Amazon Cloud

I get the following error message when I try to connect to and stream videos that I have uploaded to the Amazon Cloud (AWS Streaming Distribution) using the basic Strobe Media Playback:
Connection attempt rejected by FMS server
    Connection failed.
However, the same connection string nets a successful connection and streaming using both Amazon's Streaming Diagnostic Client as well as test Flash apps that I have created.

    </object>
I get the same error message whether I try using a .flv file (with and without the file extension) or a .f4v file (using the mp4: prefix).
    Thanks for your help.

    Silviu, thanks for that.
Chris' post thread was very helpful.  It's getting closer, but still not there yet.
Following are some test links that might help to see what is happening.  In each example, you can view the page source in your browser to see how the player is setup and referencing the connection path and video file.
This first example shows the JW Player, which successfully streams a video from our Amazon RTMP Cloudfront.  Notice that the "_definst_" is not required in the connection path:
    http://107.20.182.109/keithweb/JWPlayer/JWembed.html
This next example shows the Adobe Strobe Media Player setup using the JavaScript method.  Before, I was getting a failed connection message.  But now after reading Chris's post thread and adding the "_definst_" to the connection string, the connection is being made but the player still does not recognize the same video file that the JW Player can stream in the first example.  This example nets a "Stream Not Found" error:
    http://107.20.182.109/keithweb/Adobe/StrobeMediaPlayback.html
Finally, this last example shows the Adobe Strobe Media Player setup with the embed method using the <object> tag.  Again, the same video file that was able to be streamed with the JW Player gets an error here.  However, it is not a "Stream Not Found" as in the previous example.  This time you need to click on the "play" button to see the following error:  "Playback failed.  Invalid tincan object name (stream ID: 1)."
    http://107.20.182.109/keithweb/Adobe/StrobeMediaPlayback_II.html
Again, I truly appreciate your time and assistance with this.  Any further light that you can shed on the situation would be wonderful.  I will continue to look into it myself, as well, to try to see if I have made some silly mistake that is just not apparent at this time.
    Thank you very much.
