  • Gnome login fails at first attempt

    Hi guys,
I'm having a strange problem here.
When I boot my notebook and try to login into Gnome, it constantly fails at the first attempt.
So I click on my username, enter the (correct) password and nothing happens. I cancle it with 'esc', click on the username again, enter the password and I'm in.
This also occurs when I lock my screen.
Any ideas why Gnome tries to troll me and how to fix it?
    Thanks.
    Specs:

Users out of state and out of the country are not able to connect successfully on the first attempt about 85% of the time, but are able to on the second attempt after killing their browser session. Their session just hangs without rendering the login screen on the first attempt. They are usually able to log in without a problem the rest of that day. We have performed some tests and asked a few users to bypass the load balancer and hit the servers directly, and they have a better success rate of receiving the log in screen.
I am a local user and this is also an issue when trying to connect remotely to the Workspace page. It eventually times out and I receive the following message:
"_execScript::Error loading file './js/com/hyperion/bpm/web/common/format/Format.js' Error The operation was timed out".
Has anyone ever experienced this issue? I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

    Hello L Swarz,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when downloading your purchased song to your iPod nano.
I am not sure if you have tried these specific steps, but I recommend downloading the purchased song to iTunes on your computer using the steps in the following article:

  • Suspends fails the first time, but succeeds the second time

    Hi all,
I am running Arch Linux on my Dell XPS 15 9530 laptop, and overall I am very happy with the combination. I have however had some issues with suspending.
The problem is that the first time I try to suspend the machine it seems to go to sleep, but then two seconds later it automatically wakes up again. If I then immediately try again to suspend, it works (it does not wake up automatically). Does anyone know what could be going on, and how this can be fixed?
Usually I suspend from my gnome 3 desktop, but I have also tried to suspend directly using 'systemctl suspend' without having an X server running, and the result is exactly the same. I have tried a few versions of the vanilla kernel, but also the linux-lts and the linux-ck images, but to no avail.
Here is the output from dmesg, where suspend fails:

It seems to me like the only real difference has to do with the xhci_hcd errors, perhaps the following:

Any input or help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks for the response. I should have said so, but I had already tried that, but without any luck. It seems like it doesn't change anything.

I have a T440p with Windows 7 Pro.  Except on rare occasions, I am unable to log into Windows with my first swipe across the fingerprint reader.   The green light is on when I do the first swipe and it immediately goes off and stays off for around 15 sesconds, during which time another swipe does nothing.  Then the green light will return and a second finger swipe will log me on.
Any suggestions on fixing this would be appreciated.  It's made using the fingerprint reader for login impractical, because it's faster to just go to the password screen and log in that way.  Thanks.
    Thinkpad T440p: i7-4800MQ | Crucial 16GB DDR3-1600, 9-9-9-24 | Samsung 840 Evo 500GB SSD | Intel 7260 Dual-Band AC Wireless | Windows 7 Pro
    Thinkpad X120e
    Thinkpad T61p
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I do see a several second delay before the fingerprint reader green light comes on after the login screen appears, but it's no where near as long as the delay I was previously seeing between the first failed swipe and waiting for the light to come on again.  The new driver is a great improvement and make the fingerprint reader work as I recall when I first purchased the T440p--though possibly a bit slower to light up after the login screen appears.  It would be great to see the fingerprint reader light come on more quickly after the login screen appears, but that's a minor thing compared to the failure on the first swipe.
Thanks again for giving us the opportunity to try this driver out.  So far, after a day of use and several times coming out of sleep, I haven't had any failed swipes.
    Skoop wrote:
sog, some feedback on that driver:
The installer runs but doesn't give any prompt that it has finished.  I was waiting for something to show, after the progress bars, but it just quits.  Before I restarted, I checked the driver version and saw the new one, so I figured that was all that was going to happen.  Driver is v.285, dated 1/29/15.
Restarted the PC and then put it to sleep (deep sleep mode/Intel Rapid Start).  First swipe does indeed work to login thereafter.
But:  It takes longer for the FP reader light to come on now.  I think it's that same 15 seconds mentioned above.  With the previous driver, the scanner light would come on almost right away with the login screen, but the first swipe wouldn't do anything.  Once the light came on again--that period of seconds, the swipe would work.
With this new driver version, I think that what's changed is that the light simply doesn't come on until whatever is going on in the background has completed.  So, in effect, getting a desktop takes the same amount of time, but with only a single swipe.  --Which isn't a complaint that a login should be able to be effected more quickly with the FP scanner.  Perhaps it can't.  Just reporting how it works now.
    journeyman, your take?

  • Import files fails on first attempt

    Hi,
I have a plugin which pulls files from a certain folder for import.
The first time my plugin tries to import a file i get this error
But subsequent calls to the same document succeed and adobe acrobat imports it correctly. Do you know what might be going on, is it some sort of timing issue?

When you click "Insert Files" I override the Open Dialog if it is for this feature. I then create an ASPath array with my files and load the files before sending the result back in *outASPathName...
The timing error occurs in the following scenario
    1. Click Insert Files
    2. Select Files and click Insert
    3. The default Insert Files dialog appears with my files loaded
    4. If i click this within a few seconds it throws the above error
4a. If i want about 5 seconds and click it works

  • Web Service Call Fails on First Attempt

    Hi,
I am calling a .Net web service from Flex and I am getting
unexpected results on the first call. The function accepts a few
parameters and returns an integer. I currently have it coded to
return 1, 2, or 3, but it always returns 0 on the first call. All
subsequent calls return expected results. Is this a Flex bug, or am
    I missing something?

I just want to start by saying that I have searched the forum

However I have one issue though when I run /arch/setup it only installs the base and base-devel packages not everything am I doing something wrong as I would like to install the whole contents of the cd.
    any assistance will be appreciated.

  • ESXi 6 fails/becomes unresponsive when attempting to create Datastore on OCZ SSD

I am trying to bring a Mac Mini 5,3 online with vSphere 6.  The system originally came with two 500GB 7.2kRPM drives, and I swapped one with a brand new OCZ ARC100-25SAT3-480G SSD.  I am booting from a SanDisk 64GB USB plugged into the back.
I brought the system online, added it to my vCenter, created a new datastore using the remaining 7200RPM drive, and all was well up to that point.  As soon as I attempt to create a new datastore on the OCZ drive, the host becomes unresponsive to either vCenter or the old thick client.  At the console I am still able to log in and look at the logs but that is about it, and it will even hang if I attempt a restart from the console so I have to manually power cycle it. If I leave it running, after a very long time (more than 10 minutes) the thick client will eventually throw the following useless error:
Call "HostDatastoreSystem.CreateVmfsDatastore" for object "ha-datastoresystem" on ESXi "octo" failed.
So I tried using partedUtil to remove partitions and do it again, with no change as soon as I tried to create the datastore (UI becomes unresponsive). Then I booted the machine using an external drive with OS X 10.10.3 on it and tried partitioning the drive MBR/FAT32, wrote and read a few files to make sure the drive actually seemed to work, and booted it back on on vSphere 6.  When I attempted to create a Datastore again, I still got the same behavior.
After a reboot, this is what partedUtil reports for the disk:
    partedUtil get /dev/disks/t10.ATA_____OCZ2DARC100______________________________A22L2061437000076___
    58369 255 63 937703088
    1 2048 937697984 0 0

Doesn't work, in fact ESXi seems to just hate this disk.  Since my original post, I've tried a few more things.
First, I tried to use both partedUtil and disk to delete the partition on the drive.  This does not work.
    partedUtil delete /vmfs/devices/disks/t10.ATA_____OCZ2DARC100______________________________A22L2061437000076___ 1
Error: Read-only file system during write on /dev/disks/t10.ATA_____OCZ2DARC100______________________________A22L2061437000076___
Unable to delete partition 1 from device /vmfs/devices/disks/t10.ATA_____OCZ2DARC100______________________________A22L2061437000076___
So I yanked the drive out, which is not trivial on a Mac Mini, and attached it to a windows box, then used diskpart to run the clean command on it.  I stuck back in the Mac Mini and had the same freezing and uselessness.  So I thought I'd try a different system.  I have an older SuperMicro X8SIL system in the rack that was easy to pop the top off of and hot insert the drive after another round using clean with diskpart.  After refreshing the storage controllers, the X8SIL machine saw it, so I told it to try to partition the device, and I got the exact same behavior.  Since this machine has a disk activity light, I can see that the disk light is pegged on.

  • Siebel webclient: An attempt to create a registry key has failed

    Hi,
I am trying to install siebel webclient on my PC. but i am getting an error "An attempt to create a registry key has failed" and after this, the installer has uninstalled the files.
I have succesfully installed the same around 1 year ago. But uninstalled after that. Now i am trying to install again.
I believe the uninstaller has not cleaned the Registry properly.
Can any one help me to fix this problem?
    Thanks,
    Umesh

And if you have to include type, it might be better to use a switch statement:
    Foreach ($RegVal in $RegGroup.Group) {
    Switch ($RegVal.Type) {
    "String" {Set-RegString $RegVal.Value $RegVal.Data}
    "Dword" {Set-RegDword $RegVal.Value $RegVal.Data} <etc>
I hope this post has helped!

  • Why is my Apple ID being locked out every time I go to use it?  I haven't even attempted to log in for about 4 or 5 days, but today on my first attempt to do so, it said my account had been locked for security reasons.  This is the third time.

I only sign in to iTunes' store about once a week or so.  But during each of my last 3 attempts (on different days, several days apart) on my first attempt to enter my password and hit submit, I am immediately told that my Apple account has been locked for security reasons and it wants to take me to a page to reset my 'forgotten' password.  I am using the CORRECT password.
Perhaps someone else is trying to break into my account or is mis-entering theirs but my account should not be getting locked like this.  It is very frustrating to have to go through the reset password procedure each and every time I want to go into the store.  It seems to me that Apple really doesn't want me to buy any more apps from them as they keep refusing me entry into my own account, each and every time I have tried to use it, for the past few weeks.  I am not their best customer, but they aren't giving me much of a welcome invitation to become one, if I'm going to be treated like this.
I just bought my iPhone 4 less than 2 months ago.  I paid extra money to upgrade early, just to get this phone because it was so highly recommended by everyone I spoke with in different stores (BestBuy and Verizon).  I even bought the 2 year upgrade to my Apple services in case I needed to ever call them, and so far I haven't had to, yet.  But I definitely will call them if this isn't straightened out.
It looks like this other user could be tracked and an email could be sent to them from Apple to let them know what they are doing - trying to sign into the wrong account, and are locking somebody else out of their own account because of their error....and to remind them of their correct information or how to get it and to write it down or save it somewhere so they don't keep on doing this.
I have seen literally DOZENS of other people in these discussions with exactly the same issue that I'm having so it is NOT an isolated incident, and it seems to be a growing problem as Apple's sales and user base continues to grow, so this problem is seriously needing to be addressed in some way, and soon, before they start losing new customers because of it.  If I was still within my original 14 day return period with this phone, I would definitely be returning it and buying an Android model because of how frustrating this is to me.  If my bank was doing this to me, I'd have already switched banks by now if they hadn't fixed it - just to give an example of how I feel about this.

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa

  • I have like five GB's of ghost data (data the device claims is not there but it is still taking up space) on my I pad 2 from a failed movie download attempt. How do I fix that with out resting my iPad? I have only 1GB left of storage

I have like five GB's of ghost data (data the device claims is not there but it is still taking up space) on my I pad 2 from a failed movie download attempt. How do I fix that with out resting my iPad? I have only 1GB left of storage
The movie had gotten to the point that I could watch it all the way through but it still said processing and got stuck at that point and when I turned off the wifi to try to restart it, it deleted its-self but did not free up any of the storage It was taking up
Restarting my iPad does not help
Some thing similar also happened to my old laptop when trying to download the iOS 5 update to my laptop when it came out. It kept getting disconnected and every time it would try to start over and act like what had already been downloaded was not there though it was still taking up the storage space.
And it continued repeating until it took up all of my storage space. The data file would not show up anywhere so I had to restore my laptop to the factory settings and that worked for awhile but I eventually had to get a new laptop.

Did you try to set it up as new device, as explained in this article?
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
If this does not work, use iTunes to set it back to factory settings, which would also install the latest software:
