Ghost Order??? on Website Glitch

So, I saw a great deal on a monitor, wanted to purchase since I had some rewards zone points and a gift card. Placed the order and waited waited and the bestbuy.com popped up a red warning box stating website glitch please call customer service to complete you order.  
Called customer service they had no record of my order Gift Card balance was now zero and the purchase was charged to my bank account. Customer service told me that I had a ghost order and needed to wait for the order to clear automatically. I do a lot of online shopping and actually ran a couple of e-commerce site, my question is WTH is ghost order? Every transaction that processes someone's credit card should be accounted for and traceable. No record of anything transaction were found on my account so I'm suppose to wait until they charged magically disappear. 
These are unacceptable practives Best Buy, not only do I not have access to my funds so I can make the purchase I needed but you can't actually tell me when I will have access. Reading the forum I do find comfort that I'm not the only one who has experienced this issue, but its still unacceptable.  Never experienced this once in my years of shopping at Amazon.  All purchased products are being returned to the store, and I will not shop at best buy since they are so careless in how they handle transactions.

Having trouble placing an order when you find a product at a great price is always discouraging. I'm sorry to hear you may have been left with a charge on your account and gift card funds removed for an order that wasn't processed in our systems. 
Generally speaking, as we do not actually collect funds until an item ships, the authorization you see on a credit or debit card would expire and the funds will be returned to you. This usually takes about 3-5 days, but may vary depending on your financial institution. As for the gift card, typically the funds would be returned within 8 days from the failed order.

  • Another website glitch resulting in gift card charge without purchase being completed

    I have read similar complaints on this forum, but it appears Best Buy has an IT problem with their website.
    Last night I ordered 2 video games through their website, applied a gift card, and when I hit the final button to Place My Order was greeted with, "Sorry, our site just had a glitch. Please call us at 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289) to place your order."
    When I called that number, they could not help me, after transferring me and putting me on hold for 1.5 hours. My gift card had been charged, but the order was nowhere to be found, despite it remaining in my Shopping Cart online.
    Essentially, as it stands, Best Buy has stolen $127.18 from me. The only question is how long and difficult this will be to sort out, and it already has been too long and too difficult.
    I can tell you from personal experience, a better-run company, like, for example, Amazon, would have been able to solve this situation in a 5 minute, polite phone call. They would have processed the order without new payment as a courtesy while they worked out the payment glitch. They would have had a knowledgeable representative. They would have apologized for their mistake. Of course, Amazon also likely would have caught and fixed the website glitch before it affected multitudes of customers.
    Perhaps Best Buy keeps all of their knowledgable, polite, helpful representatives assisting on these forums? We'll see.

I would be pretty frustrated also, and I'm very sorry you wasted an hour and half on the phone trying to get a resolution.
    Using the e-mail you registered on the forum, I was able to locate the gift card information, and it looks like the funds have been returned to your gift card. In my experience when this occurs with an order the funds are returned within 24 - 48 hours. But the level of service you received is unacceptable, and I assure you I will be documenting your feedback for internal review.

  • Ghost Order? Tried again, same result... Frustrated

    I attempted to purchase 2 items for in-store pickup.  I paid with PayPal.  I hit the button to submit my order and it gave me an error saying that PayPal couldn't authorize the order or something.  I intended to try again but, in the interim, I received a receipt from PayPal.  I then spent nearly an hour talking to both PayPal and Best Buy.  I was told it was a "ghost order" and that there was nothing they could do and I should try to place the order again.
    So, I did and the same thing happened.  I have the two charges pending on my PayPal account and now don't have the funds to purchase anything else or try again.  This was for a gift.  Now, I have no money to get the gift.  They told me I have to wait a minimum of 48 hrs for the charges to drop off and "if not, call back" so there isn't even a guarantee that I'll have my money back by the weekend.  I definitely won't have it for his birthday tomorrow.  I admit it, I'm tired and I cried a little.  This really sucks in quite a major way and I'm so disappointed.
    Best Buy is the only store to offer this particular item for sale.  You have over $600 in charges held up in my account right now.  You've cost me 90 minutes of my day and now, no gift.  I've defended you guys a lot over the years even when I had a few minor issues of my own.  This one, and googling to find out that there are dozens more in recent weeks having the exact same issue, sort of confirms the fact that I won't be defending you again.  In 2014, when your competitors have websites that flow like butter - at least on the consumer end - how can your site be this screwy?
    I'm not sure if there's anything you can do for me at this point.  If someone can fix it, I want my order for in-store pickup tonight.  On the phone, they said it wasn't fixable with the first one, though, so I doubt it is with the second either.  He was excited to pick it up tonight even though I hadn't told him what he was getting for his birthday.  He's an easy going guy and that's why this sucks even more.  He really earned this surprise.  Not happy with you Best Buy... not happy.

    Typically when an order is placed, an authorization is placed on the funds to ensure enough funds are available. While this sometimes makes the funds unavailable depending on your financial institution, the funds are generally not collected until an item ships. Once an item ships or an authorization expires, the funds should either be collected or returned to you, respectively.   • Ghost Order- Lost promotions

    Thursday 7/30/15 I tried ordering a LG G4 on the BestBuy.com website, I got through almost all of the order and received a screen saying I needed to call Best Buy to verify additional information.  I called and placed the order, it took about 15 minutes.  The order was {removed per forum guidelines} and scheduled to be picked up the the store in Newington/ Portsmouth, NH in an hour.   I drove the hour and 40 minutes to get to the store, and there's no record of the order.  The gentleman at the store indicated that cell phone web orders can sometimes take an additional 2-3 hours, which I was not willing to wait around for.
    That night, I emailed Best Buy customer service asking what was happening.  I didn't get a response until Saturday morning.
    Friday, I called Best Buy customer service and the Best Buy credit card customer service lines trying to get some resolution.  I was told in all likelihood, this was a ghost order and the funds would be returned to my credit card in 24 hours.  Any time now, I was told.  I was upset, because the reason I had ordered the phone from Best Buy in the first place was to get the $100 gift card promotion, and LG was also offering a promotion for a back up battery and a leather back for the phone with a value of $105, but the purchase needed to be made by July 31st.
    Every few days, I get a response back to my email from customer service, but even when I respond immediately, it's 24-48 hours before I hear back.  At this point, I don't expect to even get a response at all.
    The promotions are over, and six days after I made this purchase, my credit card is still tied up with the authorization.  I'd like to know if this can be made right.

    Shopping on BestBuy.com should be enjoyable and not fraught with the kind of difficulties that you have described. Certainly creating aggravation was never our goal and I apologize that this appears to have been your experience.
    When placing an order for in-store pickup we always recommend that you wait until you receive a confirmation email acknowledging that your order is ready for pickup. In the case of a "ghost order," the store would never be notified to prepare your order and a pickup notification would never be sent. I regret that your long drive did not result in a successful order pickup.
    Most authorization holds on credit cards are removed within approximately 3-5 business days if an order is not fulfilled. This timetable can vary by financial institution, so if more than five business days have passed, I suggest calling your bank to request that the hold be removed.

  • I can get into a website but cannot place orders on websites

    I am unable to place orders on websites such as gap, the limited, etc. I can get into the site and bring up what I want to order, but when I go to click on "add to shopping cart," it will not go into the cart, therefore, I cannot place an order.

    Such a "add to shopping cart" button usually involves to create a cookie to store the ordered articles.<br />
    If that doesn't work then make sure that you are allowing cookies for that website (they may be using multiple domains).

  • Ghost order refund time frame

    Hello,
    I ordered a Dell Inspirion this morning (June/04/15) at approximately 11:50 AM. Everything went smoothly until I checkedout as I did not receive a confirmation email and the order does not appear in my purchase history. I checked my debit card balance and saw that my card had been charged. I emailed bestbuy customer service around 12:10 PM about the problem and later recieved an aknowledgment email confirming that they recieved my email. As I waited for a reply and I searched online and found that people were also facing the same kind of problem about "ghost ordering". So my two question are 
    When will my money be back in my bank account?
    How long will it take for customer service to email me back?

  • Can get on fav website, check new items& account--but when I go to order, it won't process order. other websites no longer get get email sent to me

    Problem 1: There is a local website that I have an account with (for a long time) that offers good deals with vouchers...etc. Since I have got Firefox, I get their emails, I can go on the site and check the emails, get to my account to see what I have, delete used vouchers,etc. But than when I place order and go to my cart, I put in the couple items you always have to put in (ph# and hit x confirm by the rules)==I hit confirm order and the site doesn't take the order. It erases my ph number & x by confirm. I put it in again and does same thing. I missed out on some good deals because of this. I called the place (our newspaper) that runs this HOP On It by the Billings Gazette & they got an order through on their computer & said it has to be with my computer. Yesterday I tried to place another order and the same thing happens. Could you please tell me what is going on and how to correct this? This is an important site for me. Thank you.
    Problem 2: I have some websites I also like to get emails from for store ads & coupons (Hobby Lobby) and a site called SplitCoast Stampers. For some time now, I don't get their emails. I tried several times to resign up for the newsletters and/or emails. I either get the message you are already registered, but than still no in-coming mail or it will let me resign up and no mail. This has happened with a couple other places I've done business with too, but right now can't remember which other ones. Can you help with this problem too? Thank you.

    This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that are blocked.
    *check the permissions on the about:permissions page and in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
    Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":

  • Hotmail Not Recognized When Ordering from Websites

    Frequently when I try to order from a catalog website, it won't "take" my hotmail address. This only happens on my IPAD. The address is listed as my primaty address in the mail function. I have to use my IMAC to place an order.
    The message tells me my e-mail address is not in the proper format. Thank you.

    On your iPad.
    Tap Settings / Safari / Reset Safari.
    Delete the cache / cookies and history.
    Now tap Settings / Mail, Contacts, Calendars. On the right tap your hotmail account name under Accounts. Make sure you have the correct email address and password stored there.
    Restart your iPad.
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
    See if that helps...

  • Purchase made in store, to be delivered, where is the order on website

    I purchased a TV at a store, got email today with order number stating that tv was on its way to store for me to pick up.  Why can't I find any mention of this order on the website?  
    And, every time I log into the website, I have to create a new password.  This website is really getting bad.

    If you placed your order at an in-store register, then this may explain why you aren't able to view its progress -- in-store purchases cannot be tracked on BestBuy.com. Account access issues can also be caused by missing or invalid information, such as e-mail addresses, telephone numbers and billing addresses.
    No need to worry though! I was able to locate your order using the e-mail address you used to register for the forum and your TV appears ready for pickup. I've also addressed the issue preventing you from signing into BestBuy.com and have reset your account's password. When you sign back in, please do the following in order:
    Log out of your BestBuy.com account completely on all devices, including the My Best Buy app
    Delete your browser history, cache, and cookies
    Visit the password reset link in your email (please be sure to check your spam folder)
    Create a new password that fits the accepted criteria (use a password you’ve never used before)
    Logout of your account as it will log you in automatically after creating the new password
    Wait 5-10 minutes and then attempt to login to your account

  • HT201448 How to override the default order of Websites, Wiki, and Xcode services?

    Greetings,
    On my Mac server, I have the Websites, Wiki, and Xcode services all enabled but, as detailed by the Apple support article, Xcode takes precedence over all, or Wiki if Xcode is disabled.
    What I would like to see is a virtual host (e.g. wiki.myhost.com) and/or directory alias (www.mydomain.com/xcode) that opens the home page for the respective service while the default (e.g. www.mydomain.com) goes to the home page for mydomain.com.
    I'm no httpd configuration expert but I expect some manual httpd configuration will be required.  Any help appreciated.

    At the end, I decided to adopt Firefox add-on "Classic Theme Restore"—amazing output. I guess it is impossible to get such a space saving but full furnished solution somehow else.

  • Potential "Ghost Order" Situation/Refund

    Hello, I recently ordered a WD - My Passport for Mac 500GB External USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive - Silver (SKU:9028486) from Bestbuy.com. I placed the order around 9:00am Central Time for Store Pickup at the Lewisville, TX store located at 2601 S Stemmons Fwy Lewisville, TX 75067. Phone: 214-488-8624
    I purchased the item, with a combination of a $10 reward certificate, a gift card totaled at $9.65, and the rest debited from my debit card totaled at $34.72. Once I hit the submit button, I was taken to a page that said "Thank you for your order" but nothing else was on the screen. I immediately checked my bank account and saw that I was charged the $34.72 by "BESTBUY.COM 00009944 RICHFIELD MN" I waited patiently for an hour but never recieved a confirmation email with the order number and did not see anything under my purchase history regarding to the transaction.
    My certificate data on my account was updated with me losing the $10 I had and I checked my gift card balance and it showed the amount as $0.00. I called Best Buy Customer Service via phone and explained my situtation to the customer service representative. She was unable to find any mention or sign of an order placed by me for this item even though my card was charged. 
    As a temporary resolution, she helped me replace the order for a similar amount to what I had paid before ($32.46) as a way to resolve the issue of my certificate and gift card loss. I paid an additional $32.46 on top of the $34.72 that Best Buy charged earlier. That order went through and I will be picking up the item later today.
    My question and concern is, when will I be refunded my original $34.72 on my debit card? Since the order was not able to be found, how will I know if it will be refunded to me and what about my gift card and reward certificate refund? I'm not sure of what my options are or what time frame I will be refunded and I don't want to be put in a bad financial situation if I can help it. 
    If anyone can help me with this matter as soon as possible, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

    It’s definitely worrisome when you place an order and don’t receive a confirmation and no one can locate your order.  I’d be concerned in that situation as well.
    We were experiencing some issues with BestBuy.com earlier today where some orders were not completing correctly.  In those situations, the orders were simply delayed and should be going through later today.  Regarding your particular case, regrettably, we didn’t have this information when you contacted us this morning, so the agent did the best they could in the situation.
    Unfortunately, what this may mean is that your original order may still come through.  This would mean that to make sure the order doesn’t go through; you’d have to contact us to cancel it.  You should get a new email if the original order comes back through to let you know.  I haven’t yet seen the original order go through, so it may not happen, in which case, most authorizations will drop off in 3-5 business days, depending on your bank.  I saw that you already picked up the newly made order.
    I apologize for any inconvenience that this ends up causing you and hopefully there are no further issues.

  • Website glitches and images are jumbled up and distorted. Why?

    Images spazzes and there's a lot of images being jumbled up as I click one tab to another.
    For eg. When i'm on youtube, then i click on another tab, say Facebook, the tab will change to facebook but the video player of youtube will be right smack in the centre. It remains there until I scroll up or down, which erases the video player.

    When there are strange display artifacts, I suspect a graphics driver incompatibility.
    As a workaround, you could disable hardware acceleration of graphics in Firefox and in Flash:
    (A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:
    Firefox menu > Preferences > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    (B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues
    Note: with hardware acceleration disabled, some users with Retina displays have reported that Flash only uses a quarter of the display area. Hopefully that doesn't affect you.

  • Terrible pre-order system

    I woke up early on the 12th, the first day you can preorder the new iphones to put in upgrades for my wife's and my iPhone 4s.  After having issues with ordering on website, had 3 separate phone calls with Verizon to get this setup correctly (a tad excessive, but whatever, just happy to get this in the system as soon as possible so I could get in the queue).  I was told that the even though both phones are on the same order, they would ship as they become available as I wanted the 6+ which I expected to take a little longer, so I wanted to make sure my wife's 6 would ship sooner then later.
    As the order date kept pushing back when I would track, I found this odd so I chatted with customer service again and they assured me once again that they would not wait for both phones to be available to ship.  I have seen my friends and family start to receive their iPhone 6's (many of whom hadn't ordered until the release date or after), and been to the Apple Store to see these in stock (and seeing on the Apple website the ship date being 7-10 days...many weeks after I already ordered).  So again contacted customer service to NOW find out that the reason my order ship date shows 10/10, is because it is waiting for the 6+ to arrive in stock.  Sure, I could cancel my order and replace them as separate orders, but those shipping dates now would move to 10/17 and 10/31.  Thanks Verizon, why couldn't you have advised this in the first place instead of telling me false information.  So despite ordering these phones several hours after they went live, I am waiting almost a month to get them (which for the 6+ I am ok with, but there should be no reason the 6 should take this long).  I am glad other online sites (Amazon, Apple, the company I work for, etc) don't use the latest ship date to ship the entire order and instead, ship the items as available as to not punish the customer for wanting something that is having supply issues.  Wish Verizon could do the same.
