Hacked Account.

I have also been hacked today. My email address was changed, then I cannot log in to my account. I know about it when Skype sent an automated email telling me that my email has been changed to one with a domain name in Taiwan.
I informed Skype about it, and only then did they block my account. But it was already too late. The hackers emptied my account of my credit by calling two mobile telephone numbers in Taiwan.
In the end, I managed to reinstate my account, but Skype has refused to refund my credit.
I'm an above average computer user (I would use expert but people might disagree) - I have antivirus, Spybot, run Malwarebytes' A-Malware regularly, firewall installed. But cannot figure out how my Skype account has been hacked (the password was alpha numeric, not just a simple one word). This was similar to my experience when my Itunes accont was hacked.
Since this episode, I have changed my password to one containing alpha numeric, capitalised letters, and non-alpha numeric characters.
BUT I NOW have serious reservations about using SKype and buy any credits ever in the future.

Hello,
I'm sorry that you have had this experience.
1. The only way that a Skype account can be hacked is by the hacker knowing, or more likely guessing, your password. (As you probably know ever more sofisticated password "crackers" are being used).
2. Here is our information and advice on passwords:

  • Hacked Account, Credit Card Fraud, Customer Support Won't Deal With It.

    Hello!
I have contacted ''customer support'' twice about my hacked account - answer I have received left me baffled and angry as apparently I have not passed security checks - yet I have passed them when giving the same answers to un-suspend my account!
My account was hacked on the night of 5th July, approx. 3-3.30am on Sunday.
Person who hacked it tried to make continuous purchases (I believe at around 100 pounds in total) using stolen credit cards Visa and Eurocard/Mastercard (Mastercard is still attached to my account as whoever did it just left it there).
They have tried to call numbers in Turks & Caicos and in British Virgin Island.
I have asked ''customer support'' to trace it and deal with it, as in today's day and age it could be terrorist or contract killers using other people's accounts to make their dealings, but both times I was told I have not passed security checks and they won't deal with it.
I do not remember when I've open Skype account, sorry it was years ago.
I also have only 3 contacts on my Skype list from form required 5 (I simply don't need any more).
I have contacted Action Fraud UK in this matter and have made a report. I have report number which I send to ''customer support'' with my second message.
Action Fraud UK have advised me to contact ''customer support'' again and ask again to deal with this unpleasant matter - again ''customer support'' refused.
I am really angry about it and if ''customer support'' (Skype should change their name as they are not supportive nor customer orientated) do not want to deal with it then I would appreciate for someone to close my account as in that case I won't nothing more to do with company who does not take matters like this seriously!
    Sincerely
    Magdalena

  • Possibly hacked account

My friend is having a problem and I post it here because he can't log in. He has been in my contact list for 6 years.
    Dear Skype Staff!
A few days ago, I ran into a problem and I hope that you will be able to help me in this situation. It seems that my skype account got hacked. For some reason I can still log into my account from my android smarthphone (Automaticly logging in) but from my pc or on the Skype website, i get rejected due to incorrent password which was not changed by me. This skype account is old, I mean at least 6 years old and the e-mail address that I used while registering the account does not exist anymore. I can not require temporary password. If you contact me in private I can give you additional information about my account. I am looking forward to your answer. Account name: szakaly.csaba92 "

Basically this same thing happened with me too.  I have a Skype contact on my account I just made (linked to my Microsoft Account) that I know I didn't make -- and it has my phone number and MacBook login picture.  Because I took this picture that now mysteriously appears on my phone's Skype account from my MacBook (and haven't used the picture for any purpose), the only possibility is that Skype took my cell number from my Microsoft account, linked it to my MacBook profile picture, and made an account for my phone by itself.
Frankly, I'm not happy.  The picture is just one of me and is actually really nice, but I don't want it linked to my cell phone number.  This is a blatant violation of Skype's privacy policy -- nowhere in their privacy policy do they say they will take photos from your computer (especially personally identifiable ones) and make accounts with it.  I tried to merge my Skype account with my phone's account by adding my cell phone number to my Skype account, but no luck.  I can't find any way to access the profile.
Honestly, I would be happy if I could just edit out the personally identifiable picture of myself.  But Skype doesn't give me the option that I can find... can anyone give any advice?

  • URGENT Skype issue with hacking accounts

    Hello,
I'm Dan, and just about an hour ago, I managed to recover my account after a 30 minute live chat. I run an online business and a lot of my work involves Skype. In other words, Skype is key to my business. All of my partners work through Skype, so without Skype, I'd be in a bit of trouble.
At 7am this morning, I checked my emails and found I had an email sent to my primary Skype email address stating that my "Registered email successfully changed". Immediately I knew what had happened.
I contacted Skype support (after having to buy a premium account for £6), they were very helpful but I was not happy about paying £6 due to an issue on Skype's behalf. After my live chat was closed I was told to be sure that I don't get phished or install any kind of virus which may discover my Skype password, I knew that these would not be benefitial due to the circumstance.
    So how does it work?
Before I begin explaining, I am referring to the person who changed the email as a "hacker".
So, firstly, the hacker contacts Skype support, I don't know whether it was live or not but they had to contact support. The hacker claims they are me, stating that they forgot their password and you can't access your email either, so your primary email would have to be changed. Ofcourse, there is some verification. The person at the other end of the support chat will ask for some recent activity on your account.
In my case, the hacker had used multiple VPN's to add me, had added me on several accounts, this was completely oblivious to me, that they were all the hacker. I had accepted these accounts as the contact requests seemed like they were legitimate. So, all the hacker had to say was 1. I added "Micheal Potter" today. 2. I added "Randy Parker" today and so on.
They may have been asked to verify an address, this wasn't struggle for the hacker. For me, the hacker had to do a simple WHOIS lookup on my domain. The majority of people have their address openly available somewhere, I know for sure that my address is on many forums, websites etc. So just stating your address, is definetely not enough information.
Shortly after, my email address must have been changed and it is surprising that Skype have not done something about this common flaw in their security.
    How can this be resolved?
Not allow the changing of emails on accounts - if you have an issue accessing your email. you should have your email provider deal with it.
Add further verification e.g. phone numbers, secondary emails that they must verfiy, proof of address sent over (you'd never see another company changing information without ID sent from that email address or further verification other than just confirming some account activity.
Atleast check the IP address the support request was sent from!
I hope you look into this problem and resolve it immediately.

I watched as this happened, and many other around the same time. There are guides being sold on how to exploit your support team and steal accounts. I no longer feel safe using skype, and I am really scared right now. I share a lot of very personal things on skype  xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    Shame on you,

  • Hacked account - credit card charged

Why I get charged my credit card for skype id 44870835190, and I already sent this complain by email to day, I hope I get the correct answer for it.

For everyone interested how the situation ended here is a breakdown:
I was finally able to get through to someone in support using the ticket system. I was advised that my account has been locked until the situation is resolved and I was asked to reset my password using the standard online process. Since the hacker also changed my email address I was unable to do that which I mentioned back to the support. Because my identity was at that point confirmed I was advised to provide a new email address which is going to be used for password reset purposes. After I provided the new email I was able to reset the password and log into my account.
After loggin in I noticed that only 3 out of 11 bank transfers made bu the hacker were succesfull which was already good news. Additionally although the hacker was successfull in adding 50 pounds to my account he only spent around 0.4 pounds on calls and texts. I asked a refund for the transfers made by the hacker which Skype agreed to straight away.
All in all - it is a pain to get thorugh the Skype ticket system but if you are patient enough you can get some help.

  • Hacked account - Support team link does not work

i'm posting this on behalf of my parents, as they don't speak english but their account has been hacked.
They received notifications that their password, and email was changed, which they definitely didn't do.
I followed the steps on Password reset, and then i received a note that the answers i gave were OK, but then it's to provide more answers on a link. WHen i navigate to the link, i get an error message:
Sorry, the page you requested is not available.
THe same happens when i go from here to:
Help - Privacy and security - What should I do if my account is suspended, hacked, or compromised?
And there's also a link to contact Customer Support team, and its also broken: Customer Support team
Since i had no other ways to report this, please let me know where can i REPORT the fact that my parents account has been hacked

Hi, Fala, and welcome to the Community,
I just tested the link you included in your first post, and it worked perfectly for me.   In your post, above, it appears you were diverted to the Microsoft help desk instead of the Skype Customer Support team  Your link directed me to the account verification form.  Please try this route instead to contact Skype Customer Service, starting with this link to contact Skype Customer Service via their secure portal: Contact Customer Service
If you experience difficulty reaching Skype Customer Service or find yourself redirected back to the Community, please try again using a different web browser and choosing a different path through the various drop-down menu options presented.
Also, look to approve a pop-up dialogue box which would connect you to start an instant message chat with a customer service agent. If you have pop-ups blocked in your browser settings, this will also block reaching an agent.
Last and not least, when you reach the last step of the process, remember to click on the "Start Chat" link when you are provided the choice of visiting the Community or starting an instant message chat with a customer service agent.
    Regards,
    Elaine

  • URGENT Mod Help needed please. Hacked account and ...

Please help. My sons account has been hacked and live porn was sent to all his friends along with files that we don't know what is inside.
We have informed the police because of the porn content but now the hacker is hacking my sons friends and demanding to speak to my son.
    Please help

    Excellent first response.
Have your son change his account password immediately if not already done.
Also have him change the password of the registered e-mail address on file as a proactive measure.
The police know how to contact Skype directly with an official request for assistance if required.
Hackers typically gain access to peoples' accounts - Skype and otherwise - via password crackers or other password-guessing techniques.
Run security scans and software updates on your son's computer - run your preferred anti-virus/malware/spyware program using the latest virus signature files available in case your son inadvertently downloaded malware which is allowing the hacker access to the computer.
If anything else seems amiss or awary, contact a local computer professional for further assistance.

  • Hacked account. Wondering how to contact Skype sup...

    Hi everyone,
my account has just been hacked. The thief has change the password and the email address.
I would like to contact Skype support, but I found only two ways of doing that: this community and the chat support (that is not working at the moment).
How can I get a reply from support? No idea.
I also had some credit on my account, I was worried if Skype saved my credit card data for later, so the new "owner" could charge the account with my card. Is anyone able to give me a feedback?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi, Antoital89, and welcome to the Community,
Unfortunately, you have just realized a principal reason malcontents hijack accounts: to use up the credit or to take advantage of any subscription, and then to top up the credit using the payment method on file.  Change your credit card account password immediately if you have not already done so, as well as any third-party payment processing system account if you happen to use one (such as PayPal or MoneyBookers).
To recover your account, you will need to contact Skype Customer Service directly.  Try using a different web browser than you typically use; believe it or not, this works most of the time!
Here is a link to the instruction on how to contact Skype Customer Service via their secure portal: Contact Customer Service
As you know you intend to contact Customer Service, skip past Step 2 of the instruction where several articles from the FAQ library will appear for you to review, and proceed to Step 3, Continue Support Request (the "button" appears at the lower right corner of the website page). You may also skip past in Step 4 where you will be referred back here to the Community; no need to do this as the Community is where you started.  If you have a Skype Premium subscription, you will be diverted to start an instant message chat with a customer service agent; if not, complete the webform and you will receive a reply via e-mail.
    Regards,
    Elaine

  • How to report a hacked account

How do i talk to someone to report a hacked accoun?

Call Apple 408-996-1010 its their direct line. When you get the voice prompts keep pushing 0 until you get an operator. They are open M-F only.
When the operation comes on the line tell them that your Itunes account has been hacked. The operator will connect you to a human who can reverse the charges.  It does take 3 days from the time you report to getting the money back into your account.
Then contact your bank and cancel the card.
    The 1 800 # I tried was useless

  • No response to hacked account report

    Hello,
I've had to create a new Skype account in order to post on this forum. My old account has been very seriously hacked. The hacker has managed to change my password and login email, set up auto-recharge to the linked Paypal account and steal large sums of money in call costs.
I am locked out of the account.
I followed the suggested steps to submit a  report about this yesterday. I have not had a response, or any acknowledgement as to whether the report has been received and is being processed.
I hope that Skype staff can appreciate this is a very serious matter, as far as I know this person is still using my account, with my name attached, has access to my contacts, and is still stealing money.
    Please respond.

    Hi, Heko,
Further to your report: if you have not already done so, please contact the payment method issuer as well as any third-party payment processor you may be using (such as PayPal) to fund Skype and/or any other internet purchases, and report the fraudulent purchases immediately.  The payment method issuer will probably offer to replace the card; take them up on their offer.
At least for the near future, I would also recommend monitoring all accounts for unauthorized activity, and at minimum, as a pro-active measure, change all on-line account passwords.  You could consider adding anti-fraud protections to your payment methods; this will add inconvenience when you use something such as a credit card every time you wish to make a purchase, however the forced additional proving of your identity may provide peace of mind.
While I cannot explain why or why not that your account has not been suspended (please note, in my role as a community moderator, I am not authorized to access any Skype accountholder data), I can explain this: when an account is suspended, Skype does not have a facility to "pull" or "withdraw" the account from anyone's contact list.
You may also consider filing a fraud report with your local law enforcement agency or at least seek their counsel how best to proceed.
    Best regards,
    Elaine

  • URGENT! Hacked Account

My friend's account has been hacked and it keeps sending out spam messages to others.
She has changed the password but it automitically signed off whenever she tried to log-in.
At the end, she decided to delete the account, but it still appears to be online on skype and keep sending out the spam messages asking people to purchase something online.
She can't login to the email anymore so i'm posting the message for her.
Could somebody please sort this out for her asap as she doesn't want her friends to have any financial loss.
    Best
    Wil

Hi, Wil, and welcome to the Community,
The best she can do is to contact Skype Customer Service directly to report the account is still being used.  They will probably also recommend running a complete software update and patch installation cycle, as well as to run her preferred anti-virus/malware/spyware software suite using the latest virus signature files available.
We here in the Community do not have the tools to sort these types of account-related issues.

  • Help regaining access to hacked account

My 10 year old skype account was hacked two weeks ago. Someone gained access and changed the email address associated with the account and I'm locked out of the account.
I have attempted to answer the challenge questions in order to verify my ownership of the account many (5) times now. Each time I receive an email saying that my answers do not match what Skype has on record for my account.
I have provided bank account information for several account, my only paypal address and many Skype order numbers. The main issue is that they will not tell me which answer is incorrect. I honestly don't remember the exact year I signed up, and I've paid for various Skype services over the years with different credit cards and a PayPal account.
I'm incredibly frustrated at this point and the authentication process is not going anywhere.
I MUST get this account back, I use it for work and this is hurting my business every day.
I need a real human to help me out, not just the Skype help email address, which has proven to be useless in my situation.
Is there anyone on the entire Skype support staff that can spend 5 minutes with me authenticating my to my account? Thank you!

I think support may ask users to verify some details first to confirm that the one contacting them is the real owner of the account.  In the event that the user will not be able to verify the required information, the support team may indeed will not be able to provide further assistance.
