Help...browser...software..hardware...keyboard...no idea?????

I hope someone has had a similar experience. I recently dropped my laptop while on the internet. Everything seemed pretty normal afterwards..not a major drop...about a foot or two. I restarted and it took a while to load...still does.
The weird thing is that the Apple menu on top or in the browsers show no "Y"s or "Z"s. For example the title bar says HISTOR instead of HISTORY. In the url window it says www.ahoo.com instead of www.yahoo.com.The "Y" is holding a place, but just doesn't appear... I am able to type "Y"s or "Z"s in dialogue boxes and they do not show up, but will appear after they inputed and entered. Very weird.
In chatrooms...the entry area do not not show "Y"s or "Z"s, but they do show up in the chatroom dialogue. I am not sure where the problem is any suggestions...

Please help: severe software/ hardware falure

Ok, i did a wireless update to my curve 8530, after the update the phone was not working properly, so i reloaded original software, the latest on desktop software. Halfway throgh the update, my phone rebooted and the screen turned white and it sayed APP ERROR 523/reset, i clicked reset and it keeps hapenning please help!!!!!!!!!

Under Settings'/general/keyboards, There are now two keyboard layouts" software and hardware" keyboard layout. I can easily just pic US in the software one, but the hardware one has three style choices of only arabic keyboards and it requires me to pick one. So I still get arabic when I hit the globe. If anyone knows how to solve this one (get rid of it!) i will respect u forever.
On this discussion board i always hear, go to settings keyboard and change to US. As explained above, that does not solve the problem, nor many other users I read on here have the same issue as I do. VERY ANNOYING.

Hardware Keyboard Versus Software Keyboard

What is the difference between hardware and software keyboards?
I'm trying to set my keyboard to Dvorak, but it only allows it for hardware keyboards.

A hardware keyboard is just that, hardware in that you can physically touch it and it physically exists. Examples include the keyboard on your laptop, the keyboard attached to your desktop, the sliding keyboard on the Droid 2, or the keyboard on the Droid Pro.
A software keyboard is like you see on the iPhone.
Dvorak refers to the layout of the keys on the keyboard.

No, no one can tell from that information whether your software/hardware is running OK.
Please describe the problem, if you have one, in as much relevant detail as possible. The "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary. The usual results of posting etrecheck output on this site without a full description of the problem are very poor.
The many "failed" or "killed" warnings that etrecheck sometimes spews are not a reason to reinstall the OS.
The better your description of the problem, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.

After updating Firefox to version 12.0, I can no longer get my web-based help desk software to follow hyperlinks.

Our help-desk is internal, secure website. We have used Firefox for our help desk software browser since we purchased the software. But after updating to version 12, clicking on a hyperlink no longer works but only for the help desk software. Pre-version 12 works fine. External sites are fine. IE executes the help-desk software fine. There is no error, it just never executes the hyperlink. It's like they're text. Where can I start looking? We'd prefer not to go to IE, but we are using it now to get by.

Why can't i use droid4 hardware keyboard in web forms?

I have a droid4, and with aurora I can type in the url address bar with my hardware keyboard, but I can't type in forms such as usernames, passwords, message bodies, etc. With the hardware keyboard. If I change to a touchscreen keyboard then it's ok. I'm typing this message using the dolphin browser because aurora can't. (I got a droid4 because I'm terrible with touchscreen keyboarding)
Sometimes I am able to type in the first page or two, but something quickly goes awry and I'm rarely able to. use aurora in web forums or other interactive-by-keyboard things like bank accounts etc. Please help!
This seems to have happened about a month or so ago, about the time I was starting to pick aurora before opera or dolphin, but now I'm ending up using dolphin more again so I can type.

Does this only happen with Aurora? What about Firefox or Firefox beta in the Play Store?

Early 2009 software-hardware audio problems

I can't seem to put my finger on what is causing the output audio to cease functioning. The problem usually manifests as unable to make any changes to Perferences/Sound where Sound Effects - Output - Input are all greyed out and unselectable and the Audio volume icon (while being checked in the dialogue box) does not appear in the Menu bar (just the space the icon should occupy). Rebooting does not fix the issue, neither does repairing Priviledges/Permissions with Disk Utility.
Unplugging the computer and holding the power button (SMC reset?), then plugging in the power and holding the power ON button until the Mac chimes, has fixed the System Preferences issue, but as I was typing this, the audio started getting fuzzy and then quit.
Moving the Output volume control had no effect, but I was able to restore audio by fiddling with the external speaker cable plug. This procedure does not always fix the issue.
Is this possibly the beginning of the end of the audio board? I'm confused by the System Preferences behavior and the effect of physically pushing the audio jack in and out to restore audio.

The mini has been shut down for a week. When I shut it down, sound was working beautifully.
Just booted computer up and back to the problem of no Sound effects, no output, no input in the Preferences pane. And there was no "bong" thru the speaker.
Restart, get "bong" and get Audio preferences window to mostly work, but each and every time I try and change the Output volume with the cursor, get a spinning wheel of death and no or minimal output change. Try the keyboard sound up and down keys, get the icon window, but can't move volume much at all, and my key inputs are greatly delayed, up to 2 minutes. Only sound slider that works is on the menu bar, and it is inhibited as the volume icon continues to flash on the screen, reflecting key inputs made minutes ago. The sound icon in the menu bar is still selected, but can't get slider to drop down to make change because color wheel of death is still spinning.
Checked the Force quit, but nothing is shown as "not responding". This looks more and more as if there were some software corruption, but no idea where to look.

I have no concept of what the reports indicate, other than is seems to be related to the sound issues. Are there some plist files that could be corrupted?

Inconsistent "ghost" menu displayed by some software/hardware players

Hi everyone. I have a very weird problem that I don't know how to prevent/solve. I had 2 events that ended on making 2 projects (A & B) each one with 2 discs (1 and 2). I made everything starting from the same DVD Studio Pro project file just saving it as a new one and replacing assets. Also, I established a custom build location on different folders as well for each of the four discs. Everything seemed fine, and then I made 200 discs and now I have a HUGE problem!
The problem is some dvd players/software players display a ghostly variation of the first version I made of project A menu (at first, I used default buttons with dvdsp text as part of the buttons, finally I made a background image and just used dots to highlight) on Project A discs AND Project B discs! This means when I'm unlucky I get to see a grey background with the buttons and text (text that I later removed and became an background image) of this first version of Project A Disc 1 menu.
This never happened in simulation mode, when mounting the image, when verifying the burned discs on my macbook pro, xbox, set top dvd player and PC. But this problem happened on 2 of the client's macbook pros, when using Windows Media Player as player, and on some Sony set top dvd players. It's totally inconsistent. On a PC, if I use VLC, IntervideoWinDVD or PowerDVD as player, everything's fine, if I use WMP, the ghost menu problem arise.
Can somebody shine some light on this problem? If using the same file and then saving it as new and renaming/replacing assets somehow dragged the problem to the four discs, why did it happened in the first place for the original project? How would I know that if the simulation is fine and it plays fine on many devices? Thanks in advance

Hi Drew, thanks for stopping by. I'm using DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1, and this is the first time I encounter this problem. I guess next time (if the client doesn't kill me first) I'll make all menus from scratch and on first try, because there is no reliable way to know if sometimes some random player will display a ghost menu or something like that, huh? Too bad, I though this was easier!
Also a quick question please. You said changing software/hardware encoding sometimes helps. I went to preferences, and on the Encoding Section I just found bitrate, order or something and then at the bottom to choose between background encoding / encode on build. What do you mean by changing software/hardware enconding? I'm a newbie hehe :P

Missing software/hardware/serial number.

Hey there.
I have a treo 750 AT&T branded that i got shipped over from the states when the came out and were still unavailable in Australia where i live.
Id love to be able to update it with the 2.25 but the AT&T one i downloaded says it only works with an updater with a service.
Should i be using an unbranded update or am i missing something.
Ironically as well when i hard reset my phone when i got it the software, hardware and serial number were erased in the start/system/about/phone.
Is there anyway to get them back so i can try to get a legit download that will work because this having the time messed up and unable to DST it is making feel like hitting something (probably the phone) with a hammer.
Any help would be appreatiated.

Ok. At this point I tell you, you have the update. Next thing to try is a hard reset of the device. Right now something is wrong with it you should have on that device a remote desktop in the start menu or in the programs. If it is not there we need to see if we can get the device back working correctly. Now this is up to you if you don't mine not seeing the software/hardware/or serial number and not having the remote desktop you do not need to hard reset.

BT Help Browser

Good evening
Having lots of issues following an engineer visit to resolve phone problem. Phone worked fine for the rest of the day after the visit - some change made at the exchange after a thorough check of our home.
Now next day and today, no telephone and continuous dropouts of internet (Infinity).
Somehow, my BT Help Browser ceased to work and I was prompted to update to a newer version.
After endless dropouts and attempts to run the Browser, I am told
"Missing shortcut, Windows is searching for BTHelpBrowser.exe"
I cannot find it either, suggesting it never appeared during the update of the Help Browser.
I am sure the internet dropped out at least 3 times during the download.
I have tried uninstalling again (using the BT Uninstaller) but that never seems to complete, hanging while attempting to do something to the registry.
Rushing before internet drops again!

Today saw 3 engineers (H&S requirement) fit a new connection from the pole to the premises. Everything flying along nicely and the phone line is crystal clear. Great job by the OR team.
OK, The BT Desktop Helper is a nice piece of software. It's not really needed until something goes wrong.
My problem is during an update to the newer version, the internet connection dropped at least 3 times. Now the program will not run, complains that the BTHelpBrowser.exe cannot be found.
Right, I went ahead and tried to install again but met with Installation Failure, The installation could not continue, BT Desktop Help is already installed. Wheter rightly or wrongly, I used the Windows Remove Program to uninstall the Helper in the belief that I could effect a clean install.
So, here I am going round and round in circles! I believe there might be a registry item that isn't being updated or cannot be updated because of something I have done during the internet drop outs. These lasted hours.
Can you or any of the other experts advise if I do a restore from a while back, I will return to when the Helper was up and running correctly?

Where can I find a list of compatible software/hardware that will work with Yosemite?

Before I upgrade to Yosemite I would like to see a list of incompatible software/hardware to help me decide to upgrade or not.

I have success still with Photoshop CS3, though you will need to download a java package, but it takes you right to the download for that and it works just fine.. Basically it seems if it ran under Snow Leopard (barring of course the PPC code that used Rosetta) it runs in Yosemite. Heck, using an updated menucracker, I managed to keep my iStat 2 menus working!

Yoga 13 - After 8.1 upgrade no response from hardware keyboard or trackpad

I upgraded my Yoga 13 last night and now the hardware keyboard and trackpad no longer respond. In fact, I don't even see a mouse cursor on the screen anywhere. I can still use the virtual keyboard. Does anyone have ideas on how to solve this one? Thanks.

I had the same issue with the Flex 14, but it was solved after a simple reboot.

WiFi Analyzer Software/Hardware Needed

You're on the right track here, but you're better off working with an experienced wireless-oriented VAR or vendor to scope and size your deployment. It's probably not worth your business's time or money to learn the ins and outs of RF.

Gooood day everyone!We are about to move into a new office in some months - a much bigger office! Naturally I need to extend our wireless network to suit our needs.I could just walk around and put up new APs like everywhere, however, this seems to be a rather bad idea - in so many ways!So I thought why not get one of these fancy, and utterly practical WiFi-Analyzer thingys. Problem is, I have never had one nor have I ever worked with one. There are a lot of these, so I'm a little bit lost!I would really appreciate any suggestions in regards of which software/hardware to get/try.The only product (software) I ever worked with is inSSIDer (the last freeware version) - those guys got hardware and software solutions as well. Maybe someone have some experience with their products?Thanks upfront / Cheers!
