Help: Slide background showing up on other slides.

I'm using Captivate 6 and I've encountered the following issue with most projects I work on. I've recorded from a software application, and when I publish my project, portions of slide background from some slides show up on other slides. I can't incude a full screenshot due to the proprietary nature of the software I'm working with, but I've included a snippet to give you an idea. The white portion on the left that says "Breath Sounds" is not supposed to be there. That is from a different slide and in a different place. This only shows in the published version, not in preview mode. I've tried increasing the SWF size and quality to high and compressing full motion. The only work-around I've had success with so far is hiding all the objects on a slide and then capturing a screenshot of it, then adding the screenshot to the slide as an image, and applying the objects back on top of it. As you can imagine, this makes the size of the project much bigger than necessary and it is very time intensive to go out and do this for every slide. I've tried adding the screenshot as background and I run in to the same issue. Has anyone run in to this before and know how to fix it?
Thanks, Brandey

I did not select that option, but I will give that a try. I did create a second version of the project to use to troubleshoot the issues because I was able to finish the first version using the workaround I mentioned above. When I published the new version (without the added screenshot images), I turned off compression and the issue was resolved so that must be it. Thanks to both of you for your help!!

  • CP7 Rollover images Show up every OTHER slide

I am using CP7 and I have a number of graphics on slide 1 that I have defined to have a 'rest of project' timing. I have made multiple groups of graphics on slide 1 and I have made them to NOT be 'visible in output' this way, when I need them, I can use advanced actions to hide/show them (by group name) when I need them for subsequent slides. I am using slide 1 for this instead of the master slide because I need to define the stacking of graphics fairly specifically (slide 3 and further have some graphics that need to be in front of some things and behind some other things).
The set up is that I have a smart shape with a graphic and I am using it as a button on slide 1 (NOT visible in output and lasts for rest of project). Overlayed over top of my smart shape/button is a rollover image. The two objects work just like a rollover button you would see on the web. There is an advanced action that opens the group that the button is a part of and a few other graphic groups that I need to make it look good. When you click the button, there is another advanced action that is supposed to hide the group that both of those graphics are in, plus the other graphics that make it look good, and then go to the next slide. There is an advanced action on the next slide OnEnter that shows the what is needed for the beginning of the next slide.
So, here's the problem. When I click my button, everything disappears and goes to the next slide EXCEPT the rollover graphic, which stays on the screen and on top of all other graphics in slide 2. The SAME EXACT advanced action is used on slide 2 to go to slide 3 (with the same exact button because they are all really on slide 1 the whole time and just being made visible or invisible). When I click, I go to slide 3 and the rollover graphic is gone. I click the button again (to go to slide 4) and I go to slide 4 but the rollover graphic is BACK AGAIN!
I know that this is a complicated write-up, and I am going to go start from scratch to see if I can replicate the problem with a stripped down version of the advanced actions in a new file, but I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction about what is going on. I have deleted and re-inserted the rollover image, but it still does the same thing. I have re-coded the advanced action and it still does it. I have copied rollover images that DONT have this weird glitch and it still does it.
    Anyone have any ideas?

I found a 'workaround' to this problem, but I would still like to know what is going on underneath to make this happen. Since I have all the rollover graphics on the first slide with timing or 'rest of project' I just made an animated button in Flash and imported it as a .swf to replace the rollover image. I changed the smart shape underneath from having the image of the button to being transparent (still have it being used as a button with all the same advanced actions as before). Now the swf handles the rollover and the transparent smart button underneath handles the OnClick action and everything works great.
Not sure what was going on with the rollover images, but at least I was able to get the result I needed.

  • Why is my pinned, full width background showing briefly above other layers in safari as I scroll?

    cmmconstruction.com

Awesome, I'm going to try your 2nd solution and see how that works.
Your 3rd idea is how I have it set up currently. Ideally it should work but thats why it must be a Muse / Safari issue.  No problems using chrome.
    will let you know,
    Thanks again!

  • Issues with slide background. Help!

Okay I am updating a lesson on how to do a function in a program that the company i worked for developed. They changed some facets of the interface and this required me to update the background and some of the images in the software simulation. To try and expedite the process I tried to copy in screen shots of the backgrounds from the new simulation to the old lesson so that I wouldn't have to mess with the other objects in the lesson (narration, highlight boxes, captions, etc.) and now I have a problem.
The new backgrounds seem to behave perfectly normal except for during playthrough. At the very end of the slide parts of the old background come back up on screen even though they no longer exist in the library or presentation at all. I did merge the new screen shots in to the slide background so I know that isn't the issue.
I can't show very much of the background (privacy issues) but this is what it's supposed to look like and what it does look like until the very end.
Here is what it looks like when it "screws up". I think it might have something to do with some kind of recorded animation since the only parts of the old background that come back are parts of the background that the user had to interact with during the original lesson.

    Hello,
Not easy to reply before having a good idea of the issues. Perhaps some suggestions:
about the changed background: do you have access to image edting software (such as Photoshop)? If yes, did you try the option to Edit the Background instead of copy a new background?
was it a training simulation, am asking this because you talk about interaction? Then you should see extra objects on the Timeline on top of the background. Do you have them? If yes can you check the timing, the transition of these objects?
about the 'typing objects', if that is what you pointing at; you cannot delete them, but you can replace them with a Text animation (right-click on the typing object in the Timeline). This animation can be changed and can also be deleted, perhaps to replace it by a Text Entry Box (where the user has to enter the text).
Hope this makes sense and perhaps could give you some extra ideas?

Hard to say but most likely you are not doing anything wrong but have some library corruption
What version of iPhoto? Of the OS?
backup your iphoto library, depress the command and option keys, launch iPhoto and rebuild your database

  • Master slide background color

When I select the master slide on the far left (the slightly bigger one), and I deselect "project background" and change the "stage:" to a different color, nothing happens.  I am trying to use the solid color (paint can) and I put in my choice of Hex color (005983).  When I try the same thing on the individual master slides to the right, I also get nothing.  I even changed the Edit>Preferences>Defaults>Background color to the same color.  And I get nothing.
I can (and have) put other things (logo, color bar) on the Master slide, and it propigates to the right on the other slides.  What am I missing?

There are objects on the main master slide, they are not merged into the background. Yes, you can set the stage color for a normal slide as well:
What do you really want to achieve with selecting a blue color for the main master slide? It will not show up because you have objects on that slide that cover the stage color.
I know, documentation is not very helpful. I have been writing a lot about Captivate to provide some clues, but not about master slides. It is a lot of work to write out documentation and I'm offering everything for free. Same with answers here, where Rod and Rick are also spending many hours trying to provide answers.
Depending on the theme you started with, there can be a project background. You used the white theme. That background will always show up on the main master slide, even when you uncheck Project background. If you want not to see that Project background on a normal slide, but a full blue color, you have to unselect Use Master Slide Background, then unselect Project Background (is dimmed as long as you use Master Slide Background) and then you can use a stage color. Those settings I show in the screenshot.

  • Showing values beside html5 slider

I have a page layout that I rather not break, and on the particular page (http://www.evolvedtools.com/hardwareTools.html) I have a range slider that I have been playing with.
I have been looking at some examples where people have been able to constantly display the value of the slider, alongside the handle , as it is being moved. The values are not what's important for now, but rather the implementation in my existing code. I am not willing to restructure my whole page to fit it in.
In the code for my page I have commented out the code for a "bubble" solution I picked up on the net. It produces a little container that is supposed to follow the  range slider and display  a value for it. It doesn't work for me though, and I am not all that surprised, as I guess the implementation is a little bit more difficult in my case than the example..... ( Example: http://css-tricks.com/value-bubbles-for-range-inputs/) I see that it makes use of webkit elements also, which I don't like...
So my question is: Where would I have to go from here to implement such a feature ?

<p><span style="font-size:1em;">Hardware Tools</span> is a term I hope will seem pretty self explanatory. This page is meant for descriptions of useful hardware electronic and ergonomical tools. To get a decent workflow going it is increasingly important to multitask, even when doing art or design - work. People have preferences according to their profession or field of interest, but the designer aspect is emphasized here. Also note that I am here referring to more or less mobile solutions for the individual designer.<br />
    <br />
Firstly, for me I have slowly come to the conclusion that your workstation(read laptop/pc) and its specs are not going to be the piece of equipment that is most importent to you. With a decent processor, graphics card and installed memory you really can squeeze A LOT out of your mid -range machine. I will take examples from my own setup here to show you what I mean, and the interconnectivity you can acchieve through peripherals. I am talking everything from tuning software, through harware add - on's, to monitors, tablets, cell phones, networks,  graphical equipment, etc..<br />
<br />Both at home, at work and on- the- go there is increasing need for efficiency and productivity. But the large workstations are on their way out. Ordinary desktops, desktop monitors and the like have seen their glory days, and efficient computer development reduces the need for large hardware solutions. Computing is being distributed across several pieces of equipment, as opposed to being centered in a core. Mechanically, this can be seen in solutions like the ones where your average laptop has its capacity expanded by establishing an externally housed pci-express card through the laptop's expresscard slot. Storage solutions working on cloud platforms make the need for tactile storage components redundant. This eliminates a lot of permanent hardware- needs for the traveler. And then you have visual aspect with screen real estate being a keyword. As an example here I would like to refer to a brand by the name of <a href="#" onclick="MM_openBrWindow('http://www.displaylink.com','','scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=625,height=625')">DisplayLink</a>. This is a company that develops solutions for USB - connected Display solutions, like portable monitors. They make use of their own graphic adapters in the hardware, so you are not limited to the ordinary 1 extra display per standard workstation. With USB 3.0 making its presence felt, the bandwith will allow these solutions to get even better. This is of course due to the higher bandwidth that the new USB provides. On a regular pc you can connect up to 6 USB displays, and 4 for the Mac. On Windows multipoint server up to 14 displays are supported. This is of course without counting the extra displays supported by your graphics card/s. The ingenious thing about these products is the way they relieve the stress on your main hardware in that they distribute the graphics computing to several instances. This means you do not have to have a powerhouse pc to be productive on more than two displays. The graphics adapters rely on your internal cpu, but do not need much else. Hook up to any HDMI or DVI monitor or projector anywhere instead of dragging things around with you. I strongly suggest checking out their page and their products(DisplayLink), and see which products they have avaiable for your region. <br />I am currently using several DL-3500 chip graphics adapters for 1920x1200 monitors connected to my laptop. They are small and handy and I can take them with me and hook them up anywhere for more screen real estate. The difference between the fluidity of a usb 3.0 monitor setup and a usb 2.0 one is quite noticable. The adapters are really pretty gentle on your processor though, so no big worries there. I know other companies have produced solutions for multiple monitors earlier, but those looking for extensive monitor setup nowadays should test a multi monitor usb 3.0 hub from DisplayLink. And if you are going to the desolute place that doesn't have any kind of stationary monitors available you can always get one of the highly affordable, portable USB displays(Also Displaylink) and put it in you backpack. But we don't have to stop there. Finally good ultra - portable projectors with HD - resolution have started to hit the market, and I mean projectors that both have decent spesifications, are extremely portable and don't have lamps that have to be changed. Brightness, colors and resolution have usually been poor in these kind of devices, but the bar has been raised.<br />
<br />So what else would a nomad designer need ? Well, for one thing touch would be nice! And while we're at it, graphical capabilities would also be something many would crave. So lets have a look at the options. If you are using a internet tablet with touch( Android or ios), you can now use it as an extended desktop. A lot of tablets have something called a ADB composite interface(Android Debug Bridge), which is a way for your computer to interact with your tablets file system. It is also a way of enabling software developers to make applications that let you control your computer from your tablet, not only your tablet from your computer. An example is the software application <a href="#" onclick="MM_openBrWindow('http://www.shapeservices.com/en/products/details.php?product=idisplay&platform=android','','scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=625,height=625')">IDisplay</a> from Shapeservices, which lets you connect your tablet via the composite USB cabel and use your tablet as an extended desktop. The nice thing about this is that you can use input from your tablet(Touch with fingers, stylus pen, keyboard, mouse) to control applications on your computers operative system. While graphically this is mostly for sketching, it can also be used succsessfully in other applications. Also this software enables you to connect through any wireless connection, so you are not limited to the composite cable if you don't have it. Which brings me to the point of networks.<br />
<br />4G wireless modems have hit the market some time ago, but they are not limited to a dongle in the side of your laptop. In fact they can and will feed your whole household with an internet connection if you use it right. Simple as this: Almost all routers use linux software, so the problem has been developing drivers for using the USB 4g dongles with a USB - enabled router. I am currently very successfully using a <a href="#" onclick="MM_openBrWindow('http://www.draytek.com/user/PdInfoDetail.php?Id=121','','scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=625,height=625')">Draytek</a> Vigorfly200 802.11b/g/n router connected to my Netcom 4g dongle, and besides being fast I can take it with me everywhere and (depending on location) still get the same fast speed for everyone to use. If you are streaming or connecting devices wirelessly, this is gold! They have written drivers for 4g dongles, so a firmware update does all the work for you.<br />
<br />But, returning to graphic designer work, there are some options that I feel have completely erased the need for things like the traditional paper - based drawing surface. The reason I am saying this is that these tools are so precise and make the transition from computer to drawing so minimal, that the thought process of designing/programming/sketching becomes a lot more interesting and intuitive. The problem with relatively great products earlier that use a separate mat surface for drawing, separate from the screen, is the hand/eye coordination. I have used one myself and still occasionally do, but there is no question whatsoever that seeing the direct result of your brush stroke without having to move your eyes one way or the other is a better way of interacting with your work. Why drive your car with a remote control if you can sit inside ? Let's go straight to the products, and you can judge for yourself. The king of the hill is as of now the <a href="#" onclick="MM_openBrWindow('http://www.wacom.com/en/Products/Cintiq.aspx','','scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=625,height=625')">Wacom Cintiq 24HD</a>, which lets you draw on a supreme ergonomical- design monitor with detailing and specifications that will satisfy any business. It works also of course as an extended desktop, so again you get increased productivity. I am not going to say more, but take a look for yourself. Of course, these products are kind of pricy, but there are alternatives. Chinese Yiynova produce three notable drawing monitors in <a href="#" onclick="MM_openBrWindow('http://www.amazon.com/Brand-Yiynova-Digitizer-Tablet-Display/dp/B005EDNAPU','','scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=625,height=625')">10"</a>, <a href="#" onclick="MM_openBrWindow('http://www.amazon.com/Yiynova-Monitor-MSP15-Adjustable-Support-Windows/dp/B005EIF3BY','','scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=625,height=625')">15"</a> and <a href="#" onclick="MM_openBrWindow('http://www.amazon.com/Yiynova-Tablet-MSP19-19inch-1440x900/sim/B004CUT6NG/2','','scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=625,height=625')">19"</a>, and while their spesifications are as good as most of the wacom's, the prices are way lower. Again, you have to decide for yourself.<br />
<br />Moving on to add- on products, I would like to mention the standards of EsataP and USB 3.0. If you have a 2 year old mid - range machine, chances are you do not have the new USB 3.0 ports. For quite a while I have been using the esatap ( external sata powered) port on my computer for external harddisk backup. SATA is a computer bus interface for connecting host bus adapters to mass storage devices such as hard disk drives and optical drives. On a lot of laptops or desktops you have the possibility of either installing an esata card or you may have an esataP port on your laptop. What you in fact then have is a combined USB/esata port with speed that nearly rivals the new USB 3.0 standard. Using an esatap cable you can get up to 100 MBytes/s transfer speeds to or from your external drives for now. The port conncets directly to your sata harddrive, so the theoretical speed is 3GBit/s which is 375Mbytes/s, or in practice more like 300MB. If you have one of these ports I strongly suggest you use it. People have made a big deal about the need for shutting down your system before removing your esatap device, but that is completely unneccesary. I will just say <a href="#" onclick="MM_openBrWindow('http://mt-naka.com/hotswap/index_enu.htm','','scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=625,height=625')">HotSwap</a>.<br />
<br />If you have an expresscard 34 or 54 slot you can of course add an expresscard with usb 3.0 port/s, but tests show that the expresscard interface and the 2.5Gbit/s limit of your revision 1.0 or 1.1 pci-e will not give you full USB 3.0 speeds, and even if you had a revision 2.0 or later (5GBit/s), you would still have to have have the ExpressCard 2.0 slot on your machine, as only this makes use of the full bandwith of the USB superspeed(3.0). With the more ordinary ExpressCard 1.0 slot you still get 2.5 GBit/s which is actually very much faster than USB 2.0.<br />
    <br /> More to follow.....</p>

  • Objects automatically showing up on subsequent slides

I have a group of smart shapes on Slide 5. Now, any slide I add after Slide 5 shows those buttons, almost like they're part of the slide background. I can't select or delete them on those subsequent slides. If I add a slide before Slide 5, they're not there, but any after Slide 5 - there they are, no matter what master slide I use. I tried restarting Captivate and it didn't fix it. What is happening?!

I am using Hide and Show to make a toggle effect. I copied everything over to a new show and redid all the actions and that weird persistence issue is resolved, but the hide/show actions aren't working as expected. I actually had this problem in another project, too. I have size buttons, and every other one won't do the toggl. I have the same actions happening on all of them. Here is a screencast of the behavior:
    http://screencast.com/t/4ykSJHDY
This is the Action I'm using to turn on the caption and change the color of the active button:
And this is the action to toggle the caption OFF
I double checked the names of my buttons and the actions. As I mentioned, in another project where I had multiple toggles on one slide like this, the same thing happened where every other one wasn't working. Any ideas?

  • How do I stop background fading on Quiz Results slide

    Hi
I'm using Captivate 6 and having a whole heap of problems creating a quiz using question pools. First one - how do I stop the background fading away on the Quiz results slide? The background is from a master slide and the results slide has the settings in the screenshot attached
I've tried moving changing the length on the timeline, but this then makes the Continue button unclickable for ages. The background fades once it is clickable in Preview mode (see screenshot below)

    Hello,
Please go that Master Slide and click on that image and under Properties Inspector check the "Transition" option
It should not be "Fade In" or "Fade Out", it should be "No Transition" :
    Hope this helps !!
    Thanks,

  • Imovie slide & video shows

Hi - Im a little confused and frustrated. I prepared a photo slideshow in imovie and I also have selected video clips in imovie which I want to intersperse with this slideshow so it becomes a combined slide & video show. So I may start with three or four slides, switch to a video clip then back to slides for a while then insert a further clip and so on. Is this possible and how do I do it? Ive trawled through a bunch of google how to's and apple community answers but there doesnt seem to be any easy answer except go back to iphoto and import from there which becomes tedious having done it all before. I would also like to keep the inserted maps that I made for the slide show. Any help is greatly appreciated

  • Editing the slide background

I have captured an online software demo. After doing so, the
company in which I captured this for has been bought. So here's the
    challenge.
Instead of re-capturing the entire process, I was easily able
to simply copy the background slide, put it into photoshop, adjust
the colors (only thing that changed with the new branding) and
paste back in as a new slide background. Tedious, yes...but would
take much less time than recapturing...editing for pace and voice
    over.
That worked perfectly except for the slides where there is
typing or a mouse click. It appears that Captivate also catpures
horizontal bitmaps for those actions, which show the 'old' colors.
You can't see these items on the timeline in Captivate, although I
know they exist because I have imprted into flash and seen the
    elements.
Does anyone know how to disable these items or edit them so
that I can make it consistent with the color changes?
    Thanks in advance.

Hi chrisbk and welcome to our community
    aaasdf
For the slides where you have captured typing, have you tried
right clicking the typing layer and DE-selecting the "Show Typing"
element? Maybe that will work. Same with the mouse. Try turning it
    off and see what happens.
Here is where I'm going to implore everyone reading this
thread to stop for a moment and flood Adobe with a suggestion. When
you record a movie and have elected to include recording the
typing, you are adding a typing layer to your slide. If you should
make a typo, then backspace over the typo to correct it, guess what
happens? You have no easy way to edit this out. If it's important
to not include the typo, you must re-record that slide. So here is
    where you come in.
    Currently, Captivate offers us
88 different types of animated text! 88! Think about all the
programming effort it takes to create all 88 of those effects. We
have text swooping in from any direction, all kinds of different
fades, fish nibbling the letters away. Wow. Amazing! Now look at
this list of 88 effects and see what is
extremely useful but woefully missing! An animation of
simple typing text. Geez, how long would it take a developer to do
that? 5 minutes? I mean, for all the coding it takes to give us
fish nibbling away at letters, it really should be a very simple
thing for the developer to do.
So, if you feel so inclined (and I really hope many of you
do) take 5 minutes of your day and submit an enhancement request
asking for a simple typing text animation. If we had this, there
would be no need to re-record slides where we made a typo. We could
actually forego recording that piece at all, then add it later via
    a typing text animation.

  • How to change the background of a presentation? Not the slide background...

Is it possible to change the background color in a presentation? (the color behind the slide)

    Welcome to the Discussions Rodrigo!
The slide background options are a bit hidden. They are at the bottom of the "Appearance" tab in the "Slide Inspector" window. For more detailed instructions see page 62 of the Keynote User Guide, which you can access from Help menu.

  • Mixing frame from other slide

    Hi,
I have the following problem, I have a project 9 minutes
long, 120 slides and when I see all together (project), for example
in slide 28 I got frame of slide 10?
    If I click on key F10 (5 slides) starting on slide 28 I don't
see that frame, but when I hit F8 (all project) it happens??
    Help!!!
    Gustavo

Sound as if you have the image used a s a frame on slide 10
set to "display for rest of project" and not display for rest of
    slide.
If you then preview the project from anywhere after slide 10
you will not see the frame. To see it you need to view entire
project (F4) or from slide 10 itself.
When the project is published the frame will show for the
whole project if you have chosen the settings I mention above.
If you don't want to see the frame from slide 10 on slide 28
etc set the 'display for' option to 'rest of slide' NOT 'project'
in the properties of the frame object

  • Phantom image on slide background

Somehow I got an image of a screen shot on the background on
some of the slides in my Captivate file. I cannot select it to
delete it. Any thoughts on how to get this graphic image off of
    these slides?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
    Jeff Graunke

    Hi Jeff
Hmmm, very strange. I just clicked it from here in the thread
and it opened right up. However, I do notice that there were issues
last night where I'd see "page cannot be found" from time to time.
The only suggestion I have is to try again and maybe this time it
    will open?
    Cheers... Rick

  • Issues with getting a slide to show in Captivate 6 that includes a video

I am hoping that someone can help me with my issue.  I am currently working in Captivate 6.  I have a project and I am trying to get videos to open and run.  I have inserted a new content slide into my project.  I then added an FLV video to that slide (this is slide 11 in my project).  I have a previous slide (slide 10) that has an image and button and I have directed that button to go to slide 11 and then show the video when clicked.  My issue is that when I click on the button on slide 10, it does not take me to slide 11 (the slide with the video), it just stays there on slide 10.
The other piece to the puzzle is that this project is a simulation that was recorded.  So on Slide 10, I also have a click box that is suppose to take the user to slide 12, (the next step in the simulation) which it does, but then on slide 12, it opens the video from Slide 11 at the same time.
I hope this is not too confusing but I would really like some help if there is anyone that can help me.

Can you confirm if you inserted this Video on Slide 11 as Event or Multi Slide Synchronize Video? If it is Event Video, insert it as Multi Slide Video (you can set it to display on one slide only (current 11).
Also, Can you add a button to a new blank slide (put it anywhere in filmstrip) and set the action for it to jump to Video Slide?
Is this a problem with that particular button may be?
    Thanks,
    Anjaneai
